Abstract:White rot fungi are found to have the strong ability to biodegrade a large amount of aromatic compounds. Generally, these compounds undergo initial oxidation by the nonspecific peroxidases that are thought to function in the fungal ligninolysis, but the biodegradation pathways of various aromatic compounds are quite different. This review assorted the different species of white rot fungi together with the corresponding degradable pollutants according to the known researches. Some biodegradation pathways as well as the enzymological mechanism of different pollutants are also discussed simultaneously.
