Abstract:Inhibitory effects of rice straw extracts on the growth of Microcystis aeruginosa were studied. The results showed that the chemical substances in straw extracts inhibited the growth and reproduction of Microcystis aeruginosa. The inhibitory effects were enhanced by the increasing soaking time; however extensive soaking time was not able to further increase the effect. The inhibition rate reached 75.99% by the rice straw extracts obtained with 15 day soaking time. Significant inhibitory effects were observed with the dose of the rice straw extracts over 7.5%. The extracts from different parts of rice straw had different inhibitory effects on Microcystis aeruginosa. The inhibitory effects of the extracts decreased in the order of rice root,rice head and rice straw. Rice straw extracts hampered the growth of algal cells and the further synthesis of chlorophyll, and destroyed the chlorophyll originally in the algal cells.
