Abstract:In order to understand the contaminant and source of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) in sediments of Bailang Underground River in typical karst area,sediment samples were collected from 7 sections,and then 16 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were analyzed using GC-MS.Results showed that the concentration of total PAHs in upper layer sediments ranged from 37.75 ng/g~1,662.72 ng/g,while that of underlayer sediments ranged from 43.46 ng/g~1,220.79 ng/g.Concentration of PAHs did not obviously change between the upper layer and the underlayer.Predominant PAHs in sediments of the entrance were 4~6 rings,while that of outlet were 2~3 rings.Comparison with other areas in the world,concentrations of PAHs in sediments from Bailang Underground River was lower.The study discovered that underground river rises consumingly purification function to sewage because of sedimentation and adsorption.Analysis of pollution sources indicated county area is both petrogenic and pyrogenic sources,while village areas are grass and wood and fuel coal combustion sources.Comparison of component profiles of PAHs between soil in Tiankeng and sediment in underground river discovered that cool trap effect of karst Tiankeng along underground river plays an important role to input sediment for PAHs,so that concentration of PAHs in sediment of Dashiwei Tiankeng increased by 106%.The ecological risk assessment showed that concentrations of PAHs in sediments tend to be a range of low risk.
