Abstract:To investigate the toxic effects of Cd on Gynura crepidioides Benth at its early growth stage, the seeds of Gynura crepidioides Benth were used as the test target, and two groups of experiments were designed, including low concentration treatment group (0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8, 1.0, 5.0 mg·L-1) and high concentration treatment group (0, 10, 25, 50, 100 mg·L-1). The seed germination and growth under Cd stress were studied. Results demonstrated that when the Cd concentration was low (<5 mg·L-1), the germination of the seeds was enhanced to a certain degree, showing an increase in seed germination rate and germination index although with a decreased seed vigor index; when the Cd concentration was high (>10 mg·L-1), the seed germination energy, germination rate, germination index and vigor index remarkably decreased with the increase in the Cd concentration, until reaching a very significant difference (p<0.01). It was indicated that high concentrations of Cd would inhibit seed germination. Thus, it was concluded that the inhibition of seed germination was enhanced with the increase of Cd concentration, showing significant toxicological effects.
