Abstract:In order to reflect the toxicity of cadmium (Cd) in the water\|sediment system, the toxicological parameters including mortality, micronucleus and nuclear anomalies in erythrocytes of loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus ) after exposure were quantified. Results show that sediment mainly composed of clay and silt with high content of organic matter could effectively adsorb the spiking cadmium. The mortality and the frequency of micronucleated erythrocytes and the rate of nuclear anomalies of the loans exposed to sediment after cadmium spiking were all significantly higher than those in control (p<0.05). According to the data analysis, the median lethal concentrations of cadmium in the water\|sediment system were 2.8037, 2.4997, 2.2705 and 1.7538 mg·g-1 dry weight at 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours, respectively. The frequency of micronuclei and nuclear anomalies were sensitive to ambient pollutants and could be used to monitor the aquatic environmental quality.
