Fenthion [O.O-dimethyl 0-3-methy1-4(methylthio) phenyl phosphorothioate] is one of the most used mosquito insecticides in Florida, USA. Aerially applied insecticides may accidentally drift into estuarine coastal water and affect non-target organisms (Johnson and Finley, 1980; Kenaga, 1979; Patterson and Von Windeguth, 1964; Ray and Stevens, 1970). A field spray and a laboratory study were conducted to determine the persistence and disappearance rates of fenthion in the water and its toxicity on non-target organisms. This paper summarizes the results of the study and determines the assimilation capacity of fenthion in coastal waters. The fenthion is often applied as a thermal fog by a DC-3 aircraft. The thermal fog mixture contains 1.5% fenthion, 33.5% fog oil and 65% No. 2 diesel fuel. The spray duration was one to two minutes as the plane made its swath directly over the target site. The field spray was in St. Lucie County Impoundment on the east coast of Florida, USA. Before and after the spray, water samples were collected at different time intervals up to 48 hours to determine the fenthion concentration and their disappearance rates in the coastal water (Wang et al., 1987).  相似文献

Three trace heavy metals viz., nickel, copper and zinc were studied for their toxic action against Poecilia retriculata (Peters). Among these, copper was found to be most active followed by zinc and nickel. Accumulations of these metals as well as behavioural studies were carried out after exposing fish to sub-lethal concentration of LC20. It was found that the highest quantity of nickel was accumulated in the fish body followed by zinc and copper. After exposure to sub-lethal concentration of metals some behavioural changes in fish were observed due to stress, such as mucus like secretion over gills, excessive excretion, anoretic condition and increased distance between gills and operculum. In all the cases fin movement was observed. Role and use of such changes as biological indicators or as biological early warning system in water quality assessment has been discussed.  相似文献

Levels of ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B: 280–315 nm) reaching the earth’s surface have increased over the past few decades due to ozone depletion. It is well documented that exposure to UV-B radiation increases mortality in marine fish larvae. However, few studies have examined sub-lethal effects of UV-B radiation such as, for example, the possibility that it affects prey consumption by fish larvae. Atlantic cod larvae were exposed to a sub-lethal level of ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B: 280–315 nm) for 15 h. After the exposure, rotifers (4/mL) were fed to cod larvae at three different post-exposure intervals (20 min, 3 and 6 h). Trials were replicated three times for each post-exposure interval. The number of rotifers in the gut and the percent of empty guts (number of fish with empty gut/number of fish examined × 100) were analyzed. Results were compared to those of unexposed fish (the control treatment). UV-B exposed cod larvae had consumed significantly fewer rotifers than control fish at all post-exposure intervals. There was no significant difference in the frequency of empty guts between fish in the UV-B treatment versus fish in the control treatment at any of the post-exposure time points (although the difference at 20 min post-exposure was borderline significant). These observations suggest that cod larvae exposed to sub-lethal levels of UV-B have lower net energy gain which may lead to reduced growth rate and possibly poorer survival.  相似文献

The efficiency of water rinsing for removing fenthion from non-combustible used pesticide containers was investigated. Four hundred empty containers from four olive oil producing areas in Greece were studied. Following triple rinsing cleaning procedures, the amount of fenthion retained in the container ranged from 0.01% to 0.1% w/w of its initial concentration. Extraction was accomplished with acetone, and the extracts were analyzed with a capillary gas chromatographic system coupled with flame ionization detector. The results obtained showed that triple rinsing is an effective procedure for removing fenthion from used pesticide containers, since the remaining pesticide concentration was below the legislated threshold value. Consequently, the containers can be handled as non-hazardous solid wastes.  相似文献

Adult and embryos of the common mussel 'Mytilus edulis were exposed to dilutions of, respectively, whole and seawater-extracted sewage sludge. the response of adult mussels was measured as change in feeding and respiration rate after four weeks' continuous exposure, while embryo response was assessed as the percentage of normal, D-shaped larvae after 24 hours, exposure. Adult feeding rate was significantly depressed, and respiration rate significantly increased, at the lowest sludge concentration used (0.02%), and the effect appeared to be attributable to the dissolved rather than to the participate phase of the test medium. the developmental EC50 for embryos was estimated to be 0.15% sewage sludge. at dilutions of 1:600 to 1:5000, therefore, the sewage sludge investigated contained unidentified desorbable components toxic to planktonic and benthic life-history stages of a common marine invertebrate.

Aerial application of fenthion, 0.0-dimethyl 0-[3-methyl-4-(methylthio)phenyl] phosphorothioate, is widely used to control adult mosquito populations in the Florida coastal marshes. Although not sprayed on water intentionally, aerial spray may accidentally drift into estuarine, coastal and offshore waters. Laboratory and field studies were previously conducted to determine the assimilation capacity of fenthion in coastal water and its effects on non-target organisms. Fenthion, once deposited to the coastal water, normally undergoes chemical, photochemical and biological processes. the effect of pH, salinity, natural sunlight and biological activities in the coastal water are discussed. the half-life of fenthion in the offshore, inlet coastal water, estuarine and mangrove swamp waters were found to be 21.1, 5.6, 4.2 and 2.9 days, respectively. in natural conditions, photolysis and biological activities are the two dominant pathways for assimilating fenthion in the water. Four aerial field studies were also conducted to investigate the deposition rate of fenthion in the water. the deposition rate of fenthion aerial spray into the coastal water and its acute toxicity on non-target estuarine organisms were determined. After each spray, fenthion concentration was normally increased and peaked at 45 minutes and then gradually decreased. After 24 hours, only a trace of fenthion (0.01 μgL-1) was detected. Animal toxicity tests conducted in the field included adults of the calanoid copepod, Acartia tonsa, eggs and juveniles of three species of fishes. Statistically, significant mortality occurred only for copepods in one of the four tests. Water quality such as temperature could play an important role in the sensitivity of copepods to the fenthion.  相似文献

通过单次饲喂高浓度阿维菌素药液以及连续饲喂亚致死浓度阿维菌素药液进行意大利蜜蜂的经口染毒,从而探讨阿维菌素对意大利蜜蜂的急性及慢性毒性影响。结果表明,阿维菌素对意大利蜜蜂急性经口毒性48 h半数致死剂量(48 h-LD50)为0.00700μg a.i.·蜂-1,慢性经口毒性240 h每日半数致死剂量(240 h-LDD50)为0.000308μg a.i.·蜂-1·天-1。在亚致死效应方面,0.0233 mg a.i.·L-1和0.0467 mg a.i.·L-1处理组在168 h后摄食量出现明显的减少,说明阿维菌素中毒已经严重影响意大利蜜蜂的觅食和摄食能力。同时,由于摄食量的下降以及阿维菌素的毒性作用,造成了0.0467 mg a.i.·L-1处理组意大利蜜蜂体重的大幅度下降,试验前后的体重变化率达到-54.84%。意大利蜜蜂爬行能力的测定结果显示,各处理组的爬行通过率均低于对照组,特别是0.0117 mg a.i.·L-1处理组、0.0233 mg a.i.·L-1处理组和0.0467 mg a.i.·L-1处理组(P0.05)。综上所述,阿维菌素对意大利蜜蜂的急性经口毒性为高毒,较高剂量染毒会引起意大利蜜蜂的直接死亡;此外,长期接触较低浓度的阿维菌素,一方面会损害意大利蜜蜂的运动能力,如爬行、飞行能力的减弱;另一方面意大利蜜蜂生理方面也会遭到威胁,表现为摄食量下降、体重减轻,甚至死亡。因此,在施用该农药时应尽量避开蜜蜂栖息地,同时避免在蜜源植株花期时施用。  相似文献

The objective of this study was to use the freshwater food fish, Heteropneustes fossilis, as a model to evaluate the concentration-dependent effects of LAS on the testicular structure through short-term static bioassays. Concentration mediated histopathological leisions were observed in testis of H. fossilis, treated with four different concentrations of LAS for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hr Inference drawn from the study is that the cytotoxic damage is more pronounced in fish exposed to higher concentrations of LAS for shorter durations than lower concentrations of LAS for longer durations. Gross damage of germinal epithelium, inflammatory response, intertubular vacuolations and contraction and condensation in the cells of tubules under all sets of intoxication and exposures are quite suggestive of reproductive impairment leading to delayed gonadal maturity.  相似文献

Bisphenol A (BPA), the plastic monomer and plasticizer with well-known endocrine-disrupting chemical properties, is widely present in the aquatic environment, but little is known regarding hepatic toxicity in fish. This study assessed the effects of chronic exposure to BPA on the antioxidant defense system of Japanese medaka liver. Fish were exposed to sub-lethal concentrations of BPA (0.1, 1, 10, 100, or 1000?µg?L?1) for 60 days. Antioxidant parameters were determined and compared with controls. The results showed that the activities of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione S-transferase, and the content of reduced glutathione were all induced at 10?µg?L?1 BPA after 60 days. Further, hepatic CAT was sensitive to BPA at 1?µg?L?1 concentration. In conclusion, CAT may serve as a potential early biomarker of BPA exposure in aquatic environment.  相似文献

Indian bullfrog Haplobatrachus tigerinus (Daudin) was exposed to sublethal dose (1/3 of LC50 I.E. 1.166 mg/kg) of fenvalerate technical grade and the effect was studied on the specific activity of acetyl cholinesterase in the different tissues of frog viz., brain, muscle, liver, kidney and testis at different time periods viz., 3,6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours. The inhibition of specific activity of acetyl cholinesterase was in the order of kidney > brain > muscle > liver > testis. A significant inhibition was noticed in kidney at 12 hours (-64.33%) and no effect was noticed at 3 hours in testis (+0.67%). The AChE activity was inhibited in first three hours of administration of fenvalerate in all the tissue tested. The inhibition continued upto 6 hours or 2 hours in different tissue but the recovery was started by 24 hours and almost completed by 72 hours.  相似文献

为探索原花青素对镉引起的鸡胚睾丸氧化损伤的缓解作用,本实验设置了对照组、镉、葡萄籽提取物原花青素(grape seed proanthocyanidin extract,GSPE)和镉+GSPE组,在胚胎期第6.5天(E6.5)注射0.05 mg·kg-1镉或2.5 mg·kg-1GSPE,统计孵化率和睾丸指数,并在E17.5检测睾丸形态、氧化指标、细胞凋亡和内质网应激相关基因的表达情况。结果表明:与对照组相比,镉处理组孵化率和睾丸指数均显著降低;睾丸组织结构出现了细胞核固缩、空泡化和染色质周缘化等变化,过氧化氢和丙二醛水平升高、超氧化物歧化酶活性显著降低、谷胱甘肽含量明显减少,凋亡细胞显著增多;睾丸中抗凋亡基因Bcl-2 mRNA表达水平下降,同时促凋亡基因Caspase3和内质网应激相关基因(XBP-1和HO-1)mRNA表达水平显著上升。然而,GSPE联合处理,明显缓解了镉引起的睾丸损伤,使孵化率和睾丸指数回升,抗氧化水平和内质网应激得到改善,凋亡细胞显著减少,睾丸形态趋于正常。结果表明:GSPE可通过其抗氧化作用降低XBP-1相关的内质网应激基因的表达,从而缓解镉引起的鸡胚睾丸生殖毒性。  相似文献

为了研究大气细颗粒物(PM2.5)对雄性大鼠的生殖毒性作用,将不同剂量的PM2.5颗粒物悬液采用气管滴注方式对雄性Wistar大鼠分组染毒,染毒剂量分别为0、1.6、8.0、40.0mg·kg-(1BW),24h后应用流式细胞术对睾丸组织细胞周期及DNA倍体进行检测分析.结果显示:PM2.5对大鼠睾丸组织各倍体细胞比例和细胞周期有明显影响,可导致二倍体细胞数显著降低(p<0.05);可引起以二倍体细胞为主的G0/G1期细胞比例显著下降(p<0.05),G2/M期细胞比例和细胞增殖指数(PI)显著上升(p<0.05).结果提示,PM2.5可透过血睾屏障,干扰细胞周期进程,对生殖系统具有一定的毒性作用.  相似文献

This study determines the toxic effect of carbaryl (Sevin50% W.P) on the food utilization parameters in intermoult juveniles of the prawn, Macrobrachium malcolmsonii. The prawns (4.5-5.0 cm in length and 1.0-1.25 g wet wt.) were exposed to three sub-lethal concentrations of carbaryl (5.15, 7.73 and 15.47 microgl-1) for duration of 40 days. The toxic medium was renewed daily. The prawns were fed ad libitum with known energy quantity of boiled goat liver on daily basis. The overall wet weight gain was calculated. The energy lost through unconsumed food (15-60%), faeces (15-109%), ammonia excretion (9-27%) and moults (13-26%) of the prawns were calculated. The feeding rate, the rate and efficiency of absorption, the metabolic and food conversion rates and the gross and net food conversions efficiencies were found to be significantly declined (p<0.05) in test prawns when compared to that of the control. The energy lost through faeces, ammonia excretion and exuvia was found to be significantly elevated (p<0.05) in test prawns than that of the control. The effectof carbaryl on the bioenergetics parameters was severe in the highest sub-lethal concentration, less in the intermediate concentration and least in the lowest sub-lethal concentration. The results indicated that decrease in feeding, absorption, metabolism and food conversion are interdependent and toxicity of carbaryl diverting energy from production to maintenance pathways, which ultimately resulting in declined growth of M. malcolmsonii.  相似文献

The combined effects of two food levels (0.5 x 10(6) and 1.5 x 10(6) cells ml(-1) of Chlorella vulgaris) and five concentrations (0, 0.000625, 0.00125, 0.0025, 0.005 mg l(-1) of HgCl2) of mercury on the population growth of the rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus was evaluated. The growth experiments were conducted for 18 days at 23+/-1 degrees C under continuous fluorescent illumination. For each food level - heavy metal combination, we maintained 3 replicates. Our data showed that regardless of food level, increase in the heavy metal concentration in the medium resulted in decreased population growth of B. calyciflorus. At any given heavy metal concentration, B. calyciflorus grown under higher food levels had higher population abundance. The rate of population increase was significantly influenced by both the heavy metal concentration and the algal level. The highest population growth rate (0.435+/-0.003 per day) was observed in controls at 1.5 x 10(6) cells ml(-1). The results of this study were discussed in relation to the protective role of algal density against heavy metal toxicity.  相似文献

为了从生殖细胞能量代谢角度探讨邻苯二甲酸丁基苄酯(BBP)对雄性小鼠生殖损伤的机制,以昆明系雄性小白鼠为实验对象,研究了BBP对小鼠睾丸组织能量代谢相关酶的影响.实验设0、125、250、500、1000mg·kg-1(质量分数)5组浓度梯度,连续灌胃染毒30d后,采用分光光度法检测小鼠睾丸组织匀浆中乳酸脱氢酶(LDH)、琥珀酸脱氢酶(SDH)、Ca-Mg-ATPase酶的活性以及睾丸脏器系数.结果发现,1)与对照组相比,高浓度染毒组(500、1000mg·kg-1)LDH、SDH和Ca-Mg-ATPase活性均极显著降低(p<0.01);而低浓度染毒组(125mg·kg-1)3种酶活性均无显著变化(p>0.05);中浓度染毒组(250mg·kg-1)LDH没有显著变化(p>0.05),而SDH、Ca-Mg-ATPase均显著降低(p<0.05,p<0.01).2)染毒30d后,各染毒组睾丸脏器系数略有下降,但与对照组相比,差异均未达到显著水平(p>0.05).以上结果表明,较高水平的BBP不仅可以干扰睾丸组织有氧代谢及无氧代谢的产能过程,还可以干扰生殖细胞对能量的利用,提示能量代谢的障碍可能是BBP对雄性生殖细胞产生损伤的原因之一.  相似文献

The fine structure of esophagus, stomach and intestinal epithelial cells of the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis have been examined. Three types of mucosal cells secreting neutral, acid and sulfated mucopolysaccharides have been found in the esophagus. The modes of origin of different types of mucous granules are described. Storage and zymogen cells have been identified in the stomach epithelium. Storage cells are adapted for intracellular digestion and synthesis of nutritive substance. Zymogen cells are adapted for enzyme synthesis. The columnar cells occur in the intestinal epithelium; they are adapted for nutrient absorption and lipid storage. Digestion in different parts of the digestive tract is considered in context with the ultrastructural and histochemical data obtained. Some problems concerning the relation between intracellular and extracellular digestion are discussed.  相似文献

贵州省典型矿区土壤重金属污染对蚯蚓的毒性效应评估   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
选取我国贵州省某矿区典型的重金属复合污染土壤开展28 d慢性毒性暴露试验,以蚯蚓体内2种抗氧化酶活性——过氧化氢酶(CAT)和超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、8-羟基脱氧鸟苷(8-ODHG)和金属硫蛋白(MT)含量为生物指标,评估了以上生物指标与土壤重金属含量的相关性,探讨该研究方法用于矿区土壤重金属生态风险评估的可行性。结果表明,CAT和SOD在暴露周期内均出现先诱导后抑制的动态响应过程,表明蚯蚓通过提高CAT和SOD的活性来清除机体因污染胁迫而产生的自由基,以适应环境变化,在毒性缓解后,蚯蚓体内代谢产物的积累抑制了抗氧化氢酶活性,CAT和SOD活性下降并趋于稳定。暴露于重金属污染亚致死浓度时,蚯蚓体内的8-OHDG含量随着暴露时间的延长显著降低,随着暴露浓度的增加,损伤存在由低到高的转变。在28 d暴露周期内,蚯蚓体内MT在重金属胁迫下发挥了解毒作用,MT含量在蚯蚓暴露后第7天增加,随后逐渐降低。本文基于生物毒性试验综合评估了矿区典型重金属污染土壤的生态风险,研究结果对指导重金属复合污染土壤的修复与再利用具有重要意义。  相似文献

邻苯二甲酸二乙基己酯(DEHP)是环境中广泛存在的污染物,作为一种内分泌干扰物,已严重威胁到人类健康和生态环境安全。每天用250、500和1000mg·kg-1·d-1的DEHP对雄性昆明小鼠进行灌胃处理,连续处理30d后,分别考察了小鼠的器官相对质量、丙二醛(MDA)和谷胱甘肽(GSH)的含量以及睾丸组织学等指标的变化。结果显示,小鼠的肝、肺组织肿大,睾丸严重萎缩,并呈剂量依赖性。肝脏MDA含量显著增加,肝脏和血液GSH水平显著下降。从睾丸组织学分析结果可见,精子生长发育条件已受到破坏,例如睾丸细胞坏死和凋亡,生精小管上皮细胞大量脱落等。DEHP对未成熟的雄性小鼠有氧化损伤作用和生殖毒性,特别是在较高剂量(500and1000mg·kg-1·d-1)时。为了探讨大豆异黄酮(SI)对DEHP诱导的氧化损伤和睾丸损伤的保护作用,将暴露于1000mg·kg-1·d-1DEHP的小鼠,用100mg·kg-1·d-1剂量的SI平行处理。结果显示,SI作为抗氧化剂和雌激素调节剂可明显减弱DEHP所致的氧化应激和睾丸毒性。  相似文献

An major research area in environmental chemistry is the development of methods for the analysis of biomarkers. Metallothioneins are used as biomarkers in studies of heavy metals exposure in water, because metallothioneins are synthesized and accumulated when organisms are exposed to toxic concentrations of pollutants. In this work, simple and sensitive voltammetric methods were developed for metallothionein and copper (II) determinations in fish liver Lepomis gibbosus. Both analytical methodologies were optimized and applied to samples extracted from individuals previously submitted to sub-lethal toxicological trials with copper sulphate (CuSO4) and cadmium chloride (CdCl2). The obtained results showed that both methods are very precise, sensitive, and involve simple sample preparation processes. Moreover, metallothioneins showed better correlation with the toxic exposure than Cu2+. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that hepatic metallothioneins and Cu2+ contents are voltammetrically determined in order to be compared in their function as heavy metal biological indicators.  相似文献
