Comparison of the effects and kinetics of UV photolysis and four advanced oxidation systems (ozone, ozone/hydrogen peroxide, ozone/UV radiation and UV radiation/hydrogen peroxide) for the removal of simazine from water has been investigated. At the conditions applied, the order of reactivity was ozone < ozone/hydrogen peroxide < UV radiation < ozone/UV radiation and UV radiation/hydrogen peroxide. Rate constants of the reactions between ozone and simazine and hydroxyl radical and simazine were found to be 8.7 M-1s-1 and 2.1 x 10(9) M-1s-1, respectively. Also, a quantum yield of 0.06 mol.photon-1 was found for simazine at 254 nm UV radiation. The high value of the quantum yield corroborated the importance of the direct photolysis process. Percentage contributions of direct reaction with ozone, reaction with hydroxyl radicals and direct photolysis were also quantified.  相似文献

The indirect reaction of octylphenol (OP) and nonylphenol (NP) with hydroxyl radicals (*OH) during ozonation was investigated at pH values ranging from 6 to 9. A parameter Rct, representing the ratio of the *OH-exposure to the ozone-exposure, was measured using a method involving a low concentration of p-chlorobenzoic acid as a *OH-probe compound during the ozonation. By assuming that Rct is a constant value at a given pH, the second order rate constants of the alkylphenol reaction with hydroxyl radicals were determined as 1.4(+/-0.2) x 10(10) and 1.1(+/-0.2) x 10(10) M(-1) s(-1) for OP and NP, respectively. The proportions of each alkylphenol degraded by direct molecular ozone reaction and indirect hydroxyl radical reaction were predicted at different pH values. The contribution of indirect *OH reactions with each AP was found to represent over 50% of the total degradation for pH approximately 7, and the contribution increases substantially with pH>7.  相似文献

The phenoxyalkyl acid derivative herbicides MCPA (4-chloro 2-methylphenoxyacetic acid) and 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) were oxidized in ultrapure water by means of a monochromatic UV irradiation and by ozone, as well as by the combinations UV/H2O2 and O3/H2O2. In the direct photolysis of MCPA, the quantum yield at 20 degrees C was directly evaluated and a value of 0.150 mol Eins(-1) was obtained in the pH range 5-9, while a lower value of 0.41 x 10(-2) mol Eins(-1) was determined at pH=3. Similarly, for 2,4-D a value of 0.81 x 10(-2) mol Eins(-1) was deduced, independent of the pH of work. The influence of the additional presence of hydrogen peroxide was established in the combined process UV/H2O2, and the specific contribution of the radical pathway to the global photo-degradation was evaluated. The oxidation by ozone and by the combination O3/H2O2 was also studied, with the determination of the rate constants for the reactions of both herbicides with ozone and hydroxyl radicals at 20 degrees C. These rate constants for the direct reactions with ozone were 47.7 and 21.9 M(-1) s(-1) for MCPA and 2,4-D respectively, while the found values for the rate constants corresponding to the radical reactions were 6.6 x 10(9) and 5.1 x 10(9) M(-1) s(-1).  相似文献

Kinetics of photodegradation and ozonation of pentachlorophenol   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The oxidation of 2,3,4,5,6-pentachlorophenol (PCP) has been carried out by a photodecomposition process using a polychromatic UV irradiation, and by an ozonation process. In the photodegradation process, the pH accelerated the decomposition rate and the approximate first-order rate constants were evaluated, with values between 0.16+/-0.005 min(-1) at pH=3 and 0.26+/-0.007 min(-1) at pH=9. A more rigorous kinetic study led to the determination of the quantum yields of the reaction, with values of 200+/-7x10(-3) mol/Eins for pH=3 and 22+/-1.1x10(-3) mol/Eins for pH=9. In the ozonation process, the rate constants for the reaction between ozone and PCP were determined by means of a competition kinetics, with values in the range from 0.67x10(5) to 314x10(5) l/mols. The specific rate constants for the un-dissociated and dissociated forms of PCP were also calculated. Finally, in both processes, the intermediate reaction products were identified, the most important being tetrachlorocatechol, tetrachlorohydroquinone and tetra-p-chlorobenzoquinone. Free chloride ion released, which was favored at high pHs, was also followed in both processes.  相似文献

This aqueous reaction between ozone and two alkylphenols (APs), namely octylphenol (OP) and nonylphenol (NP), has been investigated. Both compounds are important endocrine disrupting chemicals, which arise from the biodegradation of alkylphenol ethoxylates and are often found at relatively high concentrations in wastewater effluents. In this paper the results of an experimental study are presented which provide values for the reaction rate constants between molecular ozone and undissociated OP and NP, and overall reaction rate constants for the degradation of the two APs at pH values in the range of 7-9. The kinetic rate constants for OP and NP degradation by molecular ozone were 4.33(+/-0.18) x 10(4) and 3.90(+/-0.10) x 10(4) M(-1) s(-1), and the reaction stoichiometry was similar in both cases and equal to approximately 1.3:1 ([O3]:[AP]). The overall second order reaction rate constants for the two APs increased significantly with increasing pH, which is believed to be mainly due to the increasing influence of indirect radical reaction with increasing pH; this aspect is considered in more detail in a companion paper. A preliminary investigation of the reaction mechanism suggests that an initial product of ozonation is hydroxyl-alkyl phenol.  相似文献

The kinetics of quinoline degradation by O3/UV in aqueous phase was studied in this paper. It was found that the stoichiometric factor for the number of ozone molecule consumed by per quinoline molecule was 1. The second-order rate constants at 15 degrees C for the direct reaction of quinoline with ozone and that for the reaction of quinoline with *OH were determined to be 51.0 and 7.24 x 10(9) M(-1)s(-1), respectively. In O3/UV reaction system, *OH was the more important oxidant to degrade quinoline than ozone. For a comparison, in O3 reaction system, the relative importance of the two oxidants depended on the pH value greatly. To make the degradation of quinoline more practical, improvement of the concentration of *OH is more feasible.

The microscopic reaction mechanisms of diphenylether (DPE) and 4-bromodiphenylether (4-BrDPE) with nitrous acid (HNO(2)) in the absence of O(2) have been explored by the 355nm laser flash photolysis. It was proposed that OH radical, from the photolysis of HNO(2), added to DPE forms the C(12)H(10)O-OH adduct while added to 4-BrDPE forms the 4-BrDPE-OH and 4-BrOH-DPE adducts. The first-order decay rate constants of the C(12)H(10)O-OH adduct, 4-BrDPE-OH adduct and 4-BrOH-DPE adduct were measured to be (1.86+/-0.14)x10(5)s(-1), (2.19+/-0.04)x10(5)s(-1) and (1.56+/-0.03)x10(5)s(-1), respectively. The final photolysis products of DPE and HNO(2) identified by GC/MS analysis were phenol, o-hydroxydiphenylether, p-hydroxydiphenylether and p-nitrodiphenylether, while the final photolysis product of 4-BrDPE and HNO(2) identified by LC/MS analysis was mainly the dimer.  相似文献

The 355 nm photon-initiated microscopic reaction mechanisms of the mixed aqueous solution of nitrobenzene and nitrous acid in the presence or absence of O(2) were studied by the laser flash photolysis technique. The main transient absorption peaks in the recorded spectra were assigned and the growth/decay trends of several transient species were investigated. It was found that the OH radical formed from the photolysis of nitrous acid triggered most of the subsequent radical reactions. The rate constant of the reaction between OH radical and nitrobenzene was measured to be (3.4 +/- 0.1) x 10(9) l mol(-1) s(-1). The product from this reaction, namely C(6)H(5)NO(2)-OH adduct, was found to react with O(2) to yield C(6)H(5)NO(2)-OHO(2) adduct with a rate constant of (1.6 +/- 0.2) x 10(9) l mol(-1) s(-1). Final steady-state products were identified by GC/MS analysis and were in accordance with the transient spectroscopic results. The possible reaction pathways were proposed.  相似文献

Ozonation characteristics of synthetic Procaine Penicillin G (PPG) formulation effluent were investigated in a semi-batch ozone reactor at different pH (3, 7 and 12), ozone feed rates (600-2600 mg h-1) and COD values (200-600 mg l-1). Ozonation of aqueous PPG effluent resulted in 37 (82)% COD removal after 60 (120) min ozonation when the reaction pH was kept constant at pH=7.900 mg l-1 (corresponding to 50% of the total introduced) ozone was absorbed during a reaction period of 1 h. The effects of increasing the applied ozone dose and the initial COD on the COD abatement rates of PPG effluent were also studied. Results have indicated that increasing the ozone dose and decreasing the COD content both have positive effects on COD removal rates. The significant contribution of the free radical (.OH) reaction pathway to PPG ozonation could be traced using tert-butyl alcohol as the .OH probe compound at varying concentrations. The bimolecular reaction rate constants for the direct reaction of PPG with ozone were found as 152 and 2404 M-1 h-1 at pH=3 and 7, respectively, using the gas phase ozone partial pressures determined from of the outlet gas stream analysis. It could be demonstrated that ozone decomposition to free radicals being triggered by increasing the pH from 3 to 7 is essential for the rate enhancement of PPG effluent ozonation.  相似文献

Evidence for destruction of PCBs by the OH radical in urban atmospheres   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Evidence for reaction of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners with the hydroxyl (OH) radical in the troposphere was observed in diurnal variations in ambient gas-phase PCB concentrations at three urban sampling sites located in the Chicago, IL; Baltimore, MD; and Jersey City, NJ urban/industrial areas. The magnitude of the depletion of individual PCB congeners decreased by about 10-20% for each additional chlorine substituent, reflecting slower reaction rates for higher MW congeners with the OH radical. Octa- and nonachlorobiphenyls, which are largely unreactive with the OH radical, were used as tracers to investigate the effects of dilution on diurnal variation. The environmental rate constants for disappearance of the PCBs range from about 1.0 day(-1) for trichlorobiphenyls to about 0.3 day(-1) for hexachlorobiphenyls. Assuming a OH radical concentration of 3 x 10(6) molecules cm (-3), the second-order rate constants for reaction of specific congeners with the OH radical are consistent with laboratory measurements. More importantly, the relative reactivity of PCB homologues agrees well with the relationship predicted by other researchers from laboratory measurements, suggesting that losses of PCBs during daytime tropospheric transport are due at least in part to reactions with the OH radical.  相似文献

Rate coefficients are reported for the gas-phase reaction of the hydroxyl radical (OH) with C2HCl3 (k(1)) and C2Cl4 (k2) over an extended temperature range at 740+/-10 Torr in a He bath gas. These absolute rate measurements were accomplished using a laser photolysis/laser-induced fluorescence (LP/LIF) technique under slow flow conditions. The simple Arrhenius equation adequately describes the low temperature data for k1 (<650 K) and the entire data set for k2 and is given by (in units of cm3 molecule(-1) s(-1)): k1(291 - 650 K) = (9.73+/-1.15) x 10(-13) exp (158.7+/-44.0)/T, k2(293 - 720 K ) = (1.53+/-0.14) x 10(-12) exp (-688.2+/-67.5)/T. Error limits are 2sigma values. The room temperature values for k1 and k2 are within +/-2sigma of previous data using different techniques. The Arrhenius activation energies for k1 and k2 are a factor of 2-3 lower than previously reported values. The experimental measurements for both k1 and k2 in conjunction with transition state and variation transition state theory calculations infer an OH addition mechanism. The lack of a measurable kinetic isotope effect for k1 is consistent with this mechanism. Insight into the subsequent reactions of the chemically activated intermediate are presented in the form of potential energy diagrams derived from ab initio calculations.  相似文献

The rates of degradation of 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene (TCB), 2,5-dichloronitrobenzene (DCNB), diuron and isoproturon by Fe(II)/H2O2 and Fe(III)/H2O2 have been investigated in dilute aqueous solution ([Organic compound]0 approximately 1 microM, at 25.0 +/- 0.2 degrees C and pH < or = 3). Using the relative rate method with atrazine as the reference compound, and the Fe(II)/H2O2 (with an excess of Fe(II)) and Fe(III)/H2O2 systems as sources of OH radicals, the rate constants for the reaction of OH* with TCB and DCNB were determined as (6.0 +/- 0.3)10(9) and (1.1 +/- 0.2)10(9) M(-1) s(-1). Relative rates of degradation of diuron and isoproturon by Fe(II)/H2O2 were about two times smaller in the absence of dissolved oxygen than in the presence of oxygen. These data indicate that radical intermediates are reduced back to the parent compound by Fe(II) in the absence of oxygen. Oxidation experiments with Fe(III)/H2O2 showed that the rate of decomposition of atrazine markedly increased in the presence of TCB and this increase has been attributed to a regeneration of Fe(II) by oxidation reactions of intermediates (radical species and dihydroxybenzenes) by Fe(III).  相似文献

The Atmospheric Oxidation Program (AOP) is a computer program that estimates the rate constant for the atmospheric, gas-phase reaction between photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals (OH) and organic chemicals. It also estimates the rate constant for the gas-phase reaction between ozone and olefinic/acetylenic compounds. AOP, which uses estimation methods developed by Atkinson and co-workers, estimates more accurate rate constants than the PCFAP (Fate of Atmospheric Pollutants) program that was part of the U.S. EPA's Graphical Exposure Modeling System (GEMS). Due to its superior predictive ability, the EPA is currently using AOP to evaluate the atmospheric fate of compounds defined under Sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).  相似文献

Macrolide antibiotics are widely used (in the order of 1g per person per year). They pass the body largely unchanged and are also not degraded in wastewater treatment plants. With not too much effort, they may be eliminated from their effluents by ozonation. The macrolide antibiotics have all a dimethylamino group at one of the carbohydrate residues in common. This functional group is the target of the ozone reaction, and clarithromycin has been selected here for a more detailed study. Since only the free amine reacts with ozone, the rate of reaction is pH dependent (at pH 7: k = 4 x 10(4) M(-1) s(-1)). In analogy to the ozonolysis of trimethylamine, the main reaction is a transfer of an O-atom yielding the N-oxide (identified by HPLC/MS-MS). A minor product (10%, based on formaldehyde yields) is demethylated clarithromycin (identified by HPLC/MS-MS). The dimethylamino group is thought to be essential for the binding of the macrolide antibiotics to their target. As a consequence, chemical changes of this functional group, notably the formation of the N-oxide that is no longer a proton acceptor, inactivates these drugs as assayed by the suppression of the growth of Pseudomonas putida. This is most important for wastewater treatment, as mineralization of clarithromycin by ozone would require 100 times as much ozone.  相似文献

A dynamic system based on the water/air equilibrium at the interface within the length of a microporous tube has been used to determine experimentally the Henry's law constants (HLC) of two pesticides: metolachlor and diazinon. The measurements were conducted over the temperature range 283-301 K. At 293 K, HLCs values are (42.6+/-2.8) x 10(3) (in units of M atm(-1)) for metolachlor and (3.0+/-0.3)x10(3) for diazinon. The obtained data were used to derive the following Arrhenius expressions: HLC=(3.0+/-0.4) x 10(-11) exp((10,200+/-1,000)/T) for metolachlor and (7.2+/-0.5) x 10(-15) exp((11,900+/-700)/T) for diazinon. At a cumulus cloud temperature of 283 K, the fractions of metolachlor and diazinon in the atmospheric aqueous phase are about 57% and 11% respectively. In order to evaluate the impact of a cloud on the atmospheric chemistry of both studied pesticides, we compare also their atmospheric lifetimes under clear sky (tau(gas)), and cloudy conditions (tau(multiphase)). The calculated multiphase lifetimes (in units of hours) are significantly lower than those in gas phase at a cumulus temperature of 283 K (in parentheses): metolachlor, 0.4 (2.9); diazinon, 1.9 (5.0).  相似文献

Although aldehydes contribute to ozone and particulate matter formation, there has been little research on the biofiltration of these volatile organic compounds (VOCs), especially as mixtures. Biofiltration degradation kinetics of an aldehyde mixture containing hexanal, 2-methylbutanal (2-MB), and 3-methylbutanal (3-MB) was investigated using a bench-scale, synthetic, media-based biofilter. The adsorption capacity of the synthetic media for a model VOC, 3-methylbutanal, was 10 times that of compost. Periodic residence time distribution analysis (over the course of 1 yr) via a tracer study (84-99% recovery), indicated plug flow without channeling in the synthetic media and lack of compaction in the reactor. Simple first-order and zero-order kinetic models both equally fit the experimental data, yet analysis of the measured rate constants versus fractional conversion suggested an overall first-order model was more appropriate. Kinetic analysis indicated that hexanal had a significantly higher reaction rate (k = 0.09 +/- 0.005 1/sec; 23 +/- 1.3 ppmv) compared with the branched aldehydes (k = 0.04 +/- 0.0036 1/sec; 31 +/- 1.6 ppmv for 2-MB and 0.03 +/- 0.0051 1/sec; 22 +/- 1.3 ppmv for 3-MB). After 3 months of operation, all three compounds reached 100% removal (50 sec residence time, 18-46 ppmv inlet). Media samples withdrawn from the biofilter and observed under scanning electron microscopy analysis indicated microbial growth, suggesting removal of the aldehydes could be attributed to biodegradation.  相似文献

The kinetics of heat-assisted persulfate oxidation of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) in aqueous solutions at various pH, temperature, oxidant concentration and ionic strength levels was studied. The MTBE degradation was found to follow a pseudo-first-order decay model. The pseudo-first-order rate constants of MTBE degradation by persulfate (31.5 mM) at pH 7.0 and ionic strength 0.11 M are approximately 0.13 x 10(-4), 0.48 x 10(-4), 2.4 x 10(-4) and 5.8 x 10(-4) S(-1) at 20, 30, 40 and 50 degrees C, respectively. Under the above reaction conditions, the reaction has an activation energy of 24.5 +/- 1.6 kcal/ mol and is influenced by temperature, oxidant concentration, pH and ionic strength. Raising the reaction temperature and persulfate concentration may significantly accelerate the MTBE degradation. However, increasing both pH (over the range of 2.5-11) and ionic strength (over the range of 0.11-0.53 M) will decrease the reaction rate. Reaction intermediates including tert-butyl formate, tert-butyl alcohol, acetone and methyl acetate were observed. These intermediate compounds were also degraded by persulfate under the experimental conditions. Additionally, MTBE degradation by persulfate in a groundwater was much slower than in phosphate-buffer solutions, most likely due to the presence of bicarbonate ions (radical scavengers) in the groundwater.  相似文献

Sulfamethoxazole (SMX), a worldwide-applied antibacterial drug, was recently found in surface waters and in secondary wastewater effluents, which may result in ecotoxical effects in the environment. Herein, removal of SMX by environmentally-friendly oxidant, potassium ferrate(VI) (K(2)FeO(4)), is sought by studying the kinetics of the reaction between Fe(VI) and SMX as a function of pH (6.93-9.50) and temperature (15-45 degrees C). The rate law for the oxidation of SMX by Fe(VI) is first-order with respect to each reactant. The observed second-order rate constant decreased non-linearly from 1.33+/-0.08 x 10(3) M(-1)s(-1) to 1.33+/-0.10 x 10(0) M(-1)s(-1) with an increase of pH from 7.00 to 9.50. This is related to protonation of Fe(VI) (HFeO(4)(-) <==> H(+) + FeO(4)(2-); pK(a,HFeO(4)) = 7.23) and sulfamethoxazole (SH <==> H(+) + S(-); pK(a,SH)=5.7). The estimated rate constants were k(11)(HFeO(4)(-) + SH) = 3.0 x 10(4) M(-1)s(-1), k(12)(HFeO(4)(-) + S(-)) = 1.7 x 10(2) M(-1)s(-1), and k(13) (FeO(4)(2-) + SH) = 1.2 x 10(0) M(-1)s(-1). The energy of activation at pH 7.0 was found to be 1.86+/-0.04 kJ mol(-1). If excess potassium ferrate(VI) concentration (10 microM) is used than the SMX in water, the half-life of the reaction using a rate constant obtained in our study would be approximately 2 min at pH 7. The reaction rates are pH dependent; thus, so are the half-lives of the reactions. The results suggest that K(2)FeO(4) has the potential to serve as an oxidative treatment chemical for removing SMX in water.  相似文献
