Iron isotope compositions of various Fe pools in aquifer sediments were measured at a known As-contaminated site in the Datong Basin, China. The δ56Fe values of HCl-extracted poor-crystalline Fe(III) range widely from ?0.41‰ to 0.36‰. We interpret the low Fe(II)/FeExtractable ratios (<50%) and the negative correlation between Fe(II)/FeExtractable and δ56Fe values in HCl-extracted poor-crystalline Fe to be best explained by redox cycling of Fe induced by microbial Fe(III) reduction. However, the high Fe(II)/FeExtractable ratios (?70%) and positive correlation between Fe(II)/FeExtractable and δ56Fe values for HCl-extracted poor-crystalline Fe indicates production of sulfides (FeSs). The δ56Fe values of crystalline Fe(III) extracted by reductant appears to be comparatively small varying from ?0.01‰ to 0.24‰, which is consistent with the δ56Fe values for ferric oxides/hydroxides having undergone microbial Fe(III) reduction. The Fe isotope composition of various Fe pools shows the transformation between crystalline Fe(III) and poor-crystalline crystalline Fe(III) and the secondary Fe(II) phases has already occurred or is occurring in aquifer sediments. More importantly, there is a significant difference in the As concentrations in crystalline Fe(III) oxides/hydroxides and HCl-extracted Fe phases. The concentrations of As range from 1.6 to 29.9 mg kg?1 and from 0.6 to 3.0 mg kg?1, for crystalline Fe(III) and HCl-extracted Fe phases respectively. Accordingly, the transformation of Fe minerals induced by microbial Fe(III) reduction can contribute to the mobilization of As. This study is the first to examine the Fe isotope compositions in high As aquifer sediments; the results show that the Fe isotope would be an important tool in demonstrating the enrichment of As in groundwater.  相似文献

A study on tropospheric aerosols involving Fe particles with an industrial origin is tackled here. Aerosols were collected at the largest exhausts of a major European steel metallurgy plant and around its near urban environment. A combination of bulk and individual particle analysis performed by SEM–EDX provides the chemical composition of Fe-bearing aerosols emitted within the factory process (hematite, magnetite and agglomerates of these oxides with sylvite (KCl), calcite (CaCO3) and graphite carbon). Fe isotopic compositions of those emissions fall within the range (0.08‰ < δ56Fe < +0.80‰) of enriched ores processed by the manufacturer (−0.16‰ < δ56Fe < +1.19‰). No significant evolution of Fe fractionation during steelworks processes is observed. At the industrial source, Fe is mainly present as oxide particles, to some extent in 3–4 μm aggregates. In the close urban area, 5 km away from the steel plant, individual particle analysis of collected aerosols presents, in addition to the industrial particle type, aluminosilicates and related natural particles (gypsum, quartz, calcite and reacted sea salt). The Fe isotopic composition (δ56Fe = 0.14 ± 0.11‰) measured in the close urban environment of the steel metallurgy plant appears coherent with an external mixing of industrial and continental Fe-containing tropospheric aerosols, as evidenced by individual particle chemical analysis. Our isotopic data provide a first estimation of an anthropogenic source term as part of the study of photochemically promoted dissolution processes and related Fe fractionations in tropospheric aerosols.  相似文献

Twelve hours integrated fine particles (PM2.5) and 24-h average size-segregated particles were collected to investigate the chemical characteristics and to determine the size distribution of ionic species during October–December 1999 in three cities of different urban scale; Chongju, Kwangju, and Seoul, Korea. Concentrations of 5-min PM2.5 black carbon (BC) and hourly criteria air pollutants (PM10, CO, NOx, SO2, and O3) were also measured using the Aethalometer and ambient air monitoring system, respectively.Highest PM2.5 mass concentrations at Chongju, Kwangju, and Seoul sites were 63.0, 77.9, and 143.7 μg m−3, respectively. For the time period when highest PM2.5 mass occurred, BC level out of PM2.5 chemical species was highest at both Chongju and Kwangju, and highest NO3 (23.6 μg m−3) followed by BC (23.1 μg m−3) were observed at Seoul site, indicating that highest PM2.5 pollution is closely associated with the traffic emissions. Strong relationships of Fe with BC and Zn at both Kwangju and Seoul sites support that the Fe and Zn measured there are originated partly from same source as BC, i.e. diesel traffics. However, it is suggested that the Fe measured at Chongju is most likely derived from dispersion of soil dust. The size distributions of SO42−, NO3, and NH4+ ionic species indicated similar unimodal distributions at all sampling sites. However, different unimodal patterns in the accumulation mode size range with a peak in the smaller size (0.28–0.53 μm, condensation mode) in both Kwangju and Seoul, and in the relatively larger size (0.53–1.0 μm, droplet mode) in Chongju, were found. The potassium ion under the study sites dominates in the fine mode, and its size distribution showed unimodal character with a maximum in the size range 0.56–1.0 μm.  相似文献

Metal mobilization in soil by two structurally defined polyphenols   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Polyphenols including tannins comprise a large percentage of plant detritus such as leaf litter, and affect soil processes including metal dynamics. We tested the effects of tannins on soil metal mobilization by determining the binding stoichiometries of two model polyphenols to Al(III) and Fe(III) using micelle-mediated separation and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). By fitting the data to the Langmuir model we found the higher molecular weight polyphenol (oenothein B) was able to bind more metal than the smaller polyphenol (epigallocatechin gallate, EGCg). For example, oenothein B bound 9.43 mol Fe mol?1, while EGCg bound 4.41 mol of Fe mol?1. Using the parameters from the binding model, we applied the Langmuir model for competitive binding to predict binding for mixtures of Al(III) and Fe(III). Using the parameters from the single metal experiments and information about polyphenol sorption to soils we built a model to predict metal mobilization from soils amended with polyphenols. We tested the model with three natural soils and found that it predicted mobilization of Fe and Al with r2 = 0.92 and r2 = 0.88, respectively. The amount of metal that was mobilized was directly proportional to the maximum amount of metal bound to the polyphenol. The secondary parameter in each model was the amount of weak organically chelated Fe or Al that was in the soil. This study provides the first compound-specific information about how natural polyphenols interact with metals in the environment. We propose a model that is applicable to developing phytochelation agents for metal detoxification, and we discuss how tannins may play a role in metal mobilization from soils.  相似文献

Synthesized lead–iron (Pb/Fe) bimetallic particles were applied to dechlorinate hexachlorobenzene (HCB) under various conditions (e.g. bimetal amount, initial pH value, reaction temperature, and reaction duration). The results showed that adding Pb onto Fe benefited the dechlorination of HCB and the bimetal with 1.4% Pb content performed best. The degradation rate decreased regularly as the initial pH value of the aqueous increased from 1.9 to 11.1 except for pH 7.0 where the fastest dechlorination rate emerged. The dechlorination could be enhanced by increasing the amount of Pb/Fe or the reaction temperature. The dechlorination ratio of HCB within 15 min increased from 24.3% to 81.3% when Pb/Fe amount increased from 0.1 g to 0.8 g. The dechlorination followed pseudo-first-order kinetics, and the dechlorination rate constants were 0.0027, 0.0064, 0.0157, and 0.0321 min?1 at 25, 50, 70, and 85 °C, respectively, and the activation energy (Ea) of the dechlorination by Pb/Fe was 37.86 kJ mol?1.  相似文献

About 60 rainwater samples were collected at west Los Angeles, California in 1981–1984 and were analyzed for C1–C9 monocarboxylic acids (0.33–79 μM, average (av.) 13±15 μM), C2–C10 dicarboxylic acids (2.9–51 μM, av. 7.5±14 μM) and C1–C4 aldehydes (0.85–28 μM, av. 9.2±11 μM). Distributions of monocarboxylic acids show a predominance of formic (average concentration: 6.5 μM) and acetic (av. 5.6 μM) acids followed by propionic acid (av. 0.44 μM). Oxalic acid is the dominant diacid (av. 3.9 μM) followed by succinic acid (av. 1.0 μM). Formaldehyde (av. 6.9 μM) is the dominant aldehyde, with the next most abundant, acetaldehyde, being minor (av. 0.65 μM). For select rain samples described in this paper, were found to comprise monocarboxylic acids 0.9–12.3% (av. 4.4±3.4%), diacids comprise 1.2–9.5% (av. 4.2±3.3%) and aldehydes comprise 0.2–6.2% (av. 2.1±2.2%) of total organic carbon (TOC, 2.0–18.6 mg C l−1; av. 9.8±5.4 mg C l−1). Annual rain fluxes of monocarboxylic acids and aldehydes during 1982–1983 were calculated to be 0.24 and 0.11 g m−2 yr−1, respectively, with an annual estimated wet deposition in the Los Angeles Basin of 3120 and 1430 tons, respectively. These fluxes are equivalent to 2500 times of the acids and 2.5 times of the aldehydes emitted from automobile exhausts in the Los Angeles air basin. This comparison suggests that major portions of the carboxylic acids detected in the rain are not directly emitted from auto-exhausts, but are most likely produced in the atmosphere by gaseous and/or aqueous phase photo-induced reactions.  相似文献

Ambient daily PM10 aerosol samples were collected at two sites in Tanzania in May and June 2005 (during the wet season), and their chemical characteristics were studied. The sites were a rural site in Morogoro and an urban kerbside site in Dar es Salaam. A Gent PM10 stacked filter unit sampler with sequential Nuclepore polycarbonate filters, providing fine and coarse size fractions, and a PM10 sampler with quartz fibre filters were deployed. Parallel collections of 24 h were made with the two samplers and the number of these collections was 13 in Morogoro and 16 in Dar es Salaam. The average mass concentration of PM10 was 27 ± 11 μg/m3 in Morogoro and 51 ± 21 μg/m3 in Dar es Salaam. In Morogoro, the mean concentrations of organic carbon (OC), elemental carbon (EC), and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) were 6.8, 0.51, and 2.8 μg/m3, respectively. In contrast, higher mean concentrations (11.9, 4.6, and 3.3 μg/m3, respectively) were obtained for Dar es Salaam. At both sites, species and elements, such as black carbon, NH4+, non-sea-salt SO42?, K, and Ni (and at Dar es Salaam also V, As, Br, and Pb) were mainly present in the fine size fraction. The common crustal and sea-salt elements, including Na, Mg, Al, Si, Cl, Ca, Ti, Mn, Fe, and Sr, and also NO3? and P (and to a lesser extent Cu and Zn) were concentrated in the coarse particles. Aerosol chemical mass closure indicated that the PM10 mass in Morogoro consisted, on average, of 48% organic matter (OM), 44% crustal matter, 4% sea salt, and 2% EC, while in Dar es Salaam OM, crustal matter, sea salt, and EC represented 37%, 32%, 9%, and 9% of the PM10 mass. The contributions of the secondary inorganic aerosol (non-sea-salt sulphate, nitrate, and ammonium) were small, i.e., only 5% in total at each site. Carbonaceous materials and crustal matter were thus the most important components of the PM10 mass. It is suggested that biomass burning is a major contributor to the OM; at Dar es Salaam there is also a very substantial contribution from traffic. A source apportionment calculation indicated that 68% of the OC at this site originated from traffic exhaust versus 32% from charcoal burning. The crustal matter at Morogoro is likely mainly attributable to soil dust resuspension, whereas in Dar es Salaam it is likely mostly resuspended road dust.  相似文献

Marine background levels of non-sea-salt- (nss-) SO42− (5.0–9.7 neq m−3), NH4+ (2.1–4.4 neq m−3) and elemental carbon (EC) (40–80 ngC m−3) in aerosol samples were measured over the equatorial and South Pacific during a cruise by the R/V Hakuho-maru from November 2001 to March 2002. High concentrations of nss-SO42− (47–94 neq m−3), NH4+ (35–94 neq m−3) and EC (130–460 ngC m−3) were found in the western North Pacific near the coast of the Asian continent under the influence of the Asian winter monsoon. Particle size distributions of ionic components showed that the equivalent concentrations of nss-SO42− were balanced with those of NH4+ in the size range of 0.06<D<0.22 μm, whereas the concentration ratios of NH4+ to nss-SO42− in the size range of D>0.22 μm were decreased with increase in particle size. We estimated the source contributions of those aerosol components in the marine background air over the equatorial and South Pacific. Biomass burning accounted for the large fraction (80–98% in weight) of EC and the minor fraction (2–4% in weight) of nss-SO42−. Marine biogenic source accounted for several tens percents of NH4+ and nss-SO42−. In the accumulation mode, 70% of particle number existed in the size range of 0.1<D<0.2 μm. In the size rage of 0.06<D<0.22 μm, the dominant aerosol component of (NH4)2SO4 would be mainly derived from the marine biogenic sources.  相似文献

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was sampled at 5 Spanish locations during the European Community Respiratory Health Survey II (ECRHS II). In an attempt to identify and quantify PM2.5 sources, source contribution analysis by principal component analysis (PCA) was performed on five datasets containing elemental composition of PM2.5 analysed by ED-XRF. A total of 4–5 factors were identified at each site, three of them being common to all sites (interpreted as traffic, mineral and secondary aerosols) whereas industrial sources were site-specific. Sea-salt was identified as independent source at all coastal locations except for Barcelona (where it was clustered with secondary aerosols). Despite their typically dominant coarse grain-size distribution, mineral and marine aerosols were clearly observed in PM2.5. Multi-linear regression analysis (MLRA) was applied to the data, showing that traffic was the main source of PM2.5 at the five sites (39–53% of PM2.5, 5.1–12.0 μg m−3), while regional-scale secondary aerosols accounted for 14–34% of PM2.5 (2.6–4.5 μg m−3), mineral matter for 13–31% (2.4–4.6 μg m−3) and sea-salt made up 3–7% of the PM2.5 mass (0.4–1.3 μg m−3). Consequently, despite regional and climatic variability throughout Spain, the same four main PM2.5 emission sources were identified at all the study sites and the differences between the relative contributions of each of these sources varied at most 20%. This would corroborate PM2.5 as a useful parameter for health studies and environmental policy-making, owing to the fact that it is not as subject to the influence of micro-sitting as other parameters such as PM10. African dust inputs were observed in the mineral source, adding on average 4–11 μg m−3 to the PM2.5 daily mean during dust outbreaks. On average, levels of Al, Si, Ti and Fe during African episodes were higher by a factor of 2–8 with respect to non-African days, whereas levels of local pollutants (absorption coefficient, S, Pb, Cl) showed smaller variations (factor of 0.5–2).  相似文献

Carbonaceous aerosol particles were observed in a residential area with wood combustion during wintertime in Northern Sweden. Filter samples were analyzed for elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) content by using a thermo-optical transmittance method. The light-absorbing carbon (LAC) content was determined by employing a commercial Aethalometer and a custom-built particle soot absorption photometer. Filter samples were used to convert the optical signals to LAC mass concentrations. Additional total PM10 mass concentrations and meteorological parameters were measured. The mean and standard deviation mass concentrations were 4.4±3.6 μg m−3 for OC, and 1.4±1.2 μg m−3 for EC. On average, EC accounted for 10.7% of the total PM10 and the contribution of OC to the total PM10 was 35.4%. Aethalometer and custom-built PSAP measurements were highly correlated (R2=0.92). The hourly mean value of LAC mass concentration was 1.76 μg m−3 (median 0.88 μg m−3) for the winter 2005–2006. This study shows that the custom-built PSAP is a reliable alternative for the commercial Aethalometer with the advantage of being a low-cost instrument.  相似文献

The efficiency of different methods for the decontamination of glassware used for the analysis of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was tested using reported procedures as well as new ones proposed in this work. A Fenton solution bath (1.0 mmol L−1 Fe2+ and 100 mmol L−1 H2O2) for 1 h or for 30 min employing UV irradiation showed to combine simplicity, low cost and high efficiency. Using the optimized cleaning procedure, the DOC for stored UV-irradiated ultra-pure water reached concentrations below the limit of detection (0.19 μmol C L−1). Filtered (0.7 μm) rain samples maintained the DOC integrity for at least 7 days when stored at 4 °C. The volatile organic carbon (VOC) fraction in the rain samples collected at two sites in São Paulo state (Brazil) ranged from 0% to 56% of their total DOC content. Although these high-VOC concentrations may be derived from the large use of ethanol fuel in Brazil, our results showed that when using the high-temperature catalytic oxidation technique, it is essential to measure DOC rather than non-purgeble organic carbon to estimate organic carbon, since rainwater composition can be quite variable, both geographically and temporally.  相似文献

The long-range transported smokes emitted by biomass burning had a strong impact on the PM2.5 mass concentrations in Helsinki over the 12 days period in April and May 2006. To characterize aerosols during this period, the real-time measurements were done for PM2.5, PM2.5–10, common ions and black carbon. Moreover, the 24-h PM1 filter samples were analysed for organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC), water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC), ions and levoglucosan. The Finnish emergency and air quality modelling system SILAM was used for the forecast of the PM2.5 concentration generated by biomass burning. According to the real-time PM2.5 data, the investigated period was divided into four types of PM situations: episode 1 (EPI-1; 25–29 April), episode 2 (EPI-2; 1–5 May), episode 3 (EPI-3; 5–6 May) and a reference period (REF; 24 March–24 April). EPI-3 included a local warehouse fire and therefore it is discussed separately. The PM1 mass concentrations of biomass burning tracers—levoglucosan, potassium and oxalate—increased during the two long-range transport episodes (EPI-1 and EPI-2). The most substantial difference between the episodes was exhibited by the sulphate concentration, which was 4.9 (±1.4) μg m−3 in EPI-2 but only 2.4 (±0.31) μg m−3 in EPI-1 being close to that of REF (1.8±0.54 μg m−3). The concentration of particulate organic matter in PM1 was clearly higher during EPI-1 (11±3.3 μg m−3) and EPI-2 (9.7±4.0 μg m−3) than REF (1.3±0.45 μg m−3). The long-range transported smoke had only a minor impact on the WSOC-to-OC ratio. According to the model simulations, MODIS detected the fires that caused the first set of concentration peaks (EPI-1) and the local warehouse fire (EPI-3), but missed the second one (EPI-2) probably due to dense frontal clouds.  相似文献

Children’s exposures to ambient and non-ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) were determined using the sulphate and elemental carbon components of the PM2.5 mixture as tracers of the ambient contribution during a 6-week winter period in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. Personal exposures to PM2.5 were measured in children at 5 elementary schools located throughout the city and ambient samples were collected on school rooftops. Average ambient levels and personal exposures during this time period were 13.8 μg m?3 and 16.4 μg m?3 respectively. From the data pooled across individuals, use of the two different tracers indicated identical estimates of median exposure to ambient PM2.5 (7.5 μg m?3) and similar estimates of non-ambient generated exposure (6.4 and 5.0 μg m?3) and infiltration (0.49 and 0.52) for the sulphate and elemental carbon approach, respectively. The median fraction of the ambient concentration resulting in exposure or exposure factors were 0.54 and 0.55 respectively, however lower values of 0.46 and 0.42 were determined from regression analysis. A strong association was found between exposure to ambient PM2.5 and measured ambient concentrations at both the closest school monitor (median r = 0.92) and a central site (median r = 0.88) demonstrating that the central site monitor was suitable for assessing longitudinal ambient generated exposure throughout the city. These results support the use of elemental carbon as a tracer of ambient generated exposure and the use of ambient data as estimates of longitudinal changes in children’s exposure in this setting. The importance of both ambient and non-ambient sources of PM2.5 is emphasized by their almost equal contribution to total personal exposures. Comparison with other studies suggests a limited influence of climate and the cold season in Prince George on exposure levels and found similar mean non-ambient generated exposures despite large variability across and within subjects in any given location.  相似文献

Fifty-five seasonal PM2.5 samples were collected March 2003–January 2004 at Changdao, a resort island located at the demarcation line between Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea in Northern China. Changdao is in the transport path of the continental aerosols heading toward the Pacific Ocean in winter and spring due to the East Asia Monsoon. Solvent-extractable organic compounds (SEOC), organic carbon (OC), elemental carbon (EC) and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) were analyzed for source identification based on molecular markers. This data set provides useful information for the downstream site researchers of the Asian continental outflow. Total carbon (TC, OC+EC) was ∼18 μg m−3 in winter, ∼9 μg m−3 in spring and autumn and a large part of the TC was WSOC (33% in winter, >45% in the other seasons). Winter and spring were the high SEOC seasons with n-fatty acids the highest at ∼290 and ∼170 ng m−3, respectively, followed by n-alkanes at ∼210 and ∼90 ng m−3, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were also at high at ∼120 and ∼30 ng m−3. High WSOC/TC, low C18:1/C18 of fatty acids, and low concentrations of labile PAHs such as benzo(a)pyrene, together with back trajectory analysis suggested that the aerosols were aged and transported. PAHs, triterpane and sterane distributions provided evidence that coal burning was the main source of the continental outflow. The detection of levoglucosan and β-sitosterol in nearly all the samples showed the impact of biomass burning.  相似文献

The use of fireworks creates an unusual and distinctive anthropogenic atmospheric pollution event. We report on aerosol samples collected during Las Fallas in Valencia, a 6-day celebration famous for its firework displays, and add comparative data on firework- and bonfire-contaminated atmospheric aerosol samples collected from elsewhere in Spain (Barcelona, L’Alcora, and Borriana) and during the Guy Fawkes celebrations in London. Specific high-profile official firework events during Las Fallas included the afternoon Mascletà and the nightly aerial displays (especially in the climactic final 2 days of the fiesta) and were accompanied by pollution spikes in suspended particles, NO, SO2, and the creation and dispersal of an aerosol cloud enriched in a range of metallic elements. Notable metal aerosol concentration increases recorded during Las Fallas were potassium (from 500 to 5900 ng m−3), aluminium (as Al2O3 from around 600 to 2200 ng m−3), titanium (from 200 to 700 ng m−3), magnesium (from 100 to 500 ng m−3), lead (from 17 to 379 ng m−3), barium (from 39 to 322 ng m−3), strontium (from 3 to 112 ng m−3), copper (from 12 to 71 ng m−3), and antimony (from 1 to 52 ng m−3). Firework-contaminated aerosols of similarly metalliferous composition were also identified at the other monitoring sites, although different sites show variations attributable to other sources such as bonfires and local industry. Unusual levels of the trace elements Ba, Sr and (to a lesser extent) Cu, always in proportions with Ba dominant, along with strongly enhanced K, Pb, and Sb, are identified as being particularly characteristic of firework aerosols. Although firework-related recreational pollution episodes are transient in nature, they are highly concentrated, contribute significantly to total annual metal emissions, and are on average fine enough to be easily inhaled and a health risk to susceptible individuals.  相似文献

Sorption of nonpolar (phenanthrene and butylate) and polar (atrazine and diuron) organic chemicals to oil-contaminated soil was examined to investigate oil effects on sorption of organic chemicals and to derive oil–water distribution coefficients (Koil). The resulting oil-contaminated soil–water distribution coefficients (Kd) for phenanthrene demonstrated sorption-enhancing effects at both lower and higher oil concentrations (Coil) but sorption-reducing (competitive) effects at intermediate Coil (approximately 1 g kg−1). Rationalization of the different dominant effects was attempted in terms of the relative aliphatic carbon content which determines the accessibility of the aromatic cores to phenanthrene. Little or no competitive effect occurred for butylate because its sorption was dominated by partitioning. For atrazine and diuron, the changes in Kd at Coil above approximately 1 g kg−1 were negligible, indicating that the presently investigated oil has little or no effect on the two tested compounds even though the polarity of the oil is much less than soil organic matter (SOM). Therefore, specific interactions with the active groups (aromatic and polar domains) are dominantly responsible for the sorption of polar sorbates, and thus their sorption is controlled by available sorption sites. This study showed that the oil has the potential to be a dominant sorptive phase for nonpolar pollutants when compared to SOM, but hardly so for polar compounds. The results may aid in a better understanding of the role of the aliphatic and aromatic domains in sorption of nonpolar and polar organic pollutants.  相似文献

To better understand the influence of sources and atmospheric processing on aerosol chemical composition, we collected atmospheric particles in Sapporo, northern Japan during spring and early summer 2005 under the air mass transport conditions from Siberia, China and surrounding seas. The aerosols were analyzed for inorganic ions, organic carbon (OC), elemental carbon (EC), water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC), and the major water-soluble organic compound classes (i.e., dicarboxylic acids and sugars). SO42? is the most abundant inorganic constituent (average 44% of the identified inorganic ion mass) followed by NH4+ (21%) and NO3? (13%). Concentrations of OC, EC, and WSOC ranged from 2.0–16, 0.24–2.9, and 0.80–7.9 μg m?3 with a mean of 7.4, 1.0, and 3.1 μg m?3, respectively. High OC/EC ratios (range: 3.6–19, mean: 8.7) were obtained, however WSOC/OC ratios (0.23–0.69, 0.44) do not show any significant diurnal changes. These results suggest that the Sapporo aerosols were already aged, but were not seriously affected by local photochemical processes. Identified water-soluble organic compounds (diacids + sugars) account for <10% of WSOC. Based on some marker species and air mass back trajectory analyses, and using stable carbon isotopic compositions of shorter-chain diacids (i.e., C2–C4) as photochemical aging factor of organic aerosols, the present study suggests that a fraction of WSOC in OC is most likely influenced by aerosol aging, although the OC loading in aerosols may be more influenced by their sources and source regions.  相似文献

In August 2003 during the anticipated month of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games, we simultaneously collected PM10 and PM2.5 samples at 8, 100, 200 and 325 m heights up a meteorological tower and in an urban and a suburban site in Beijing. The samples were analysed for organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) contents. Particulate matter (PM) and carbonaceous species pollution in the Beijing region were serious and widespread with 86% of PM2.5 samples exceeding the daily National Ambient Air Quality Standard of the USA (65 μg m−3) and the overall daily average PM10 concentrations of the three surface sites exceeding the Class II National Air Quality Standard of China (150 μg m−3). The maximum daily PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations reached 178.7 and 368.1 μg m−3, respectively, while those of OC and EC reached 22.2 and 9.1 μg m−3 in PM2.5 and 30.0 and 13.0 μg m−3 in PM10, respectively. PM, especially PM2.5, OC and EC showed complex vertical distributions and distinct layered structures up the meteorological tower with elevated levels extending to the 100, 200 and 300 m heights. Meteorological evidence suggested that there exist fine atmospheric layers over urban Beijing. These layers were featured by strong temperature inversions close to the surface (<50 m) and more stable conditions aloft. They enhanced the accumulation of pollutants and probably caused the complex vertical distributions of PM and carbonaceous species over urban Beijing. The built-up of PM was accompanied by transport of industrial emissions from the southwest direction of the city. Emissions from road traffic and construction activities as well as secondary organic carbon (SOC) are important sources of PM. High OC/EC ratios (range of 1.8–5.1 for PM2.5 and 2.0–4.3 for PM10) were found, especially in the higher levels of the meteorological tower suggesting there were substantial productions of SOC in summer Beijing. SOC is estimated to account for at least 33.8% and 28.1% of OC in PM2.5 and PM10, respectively, with higher percentages at the higher levels of the tower.  相似文献

Hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] and arsenite [As(III)] are the most toxic forms of chromium and arsenic respectively, and reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) and oxidation of As(III) to As(V) has great environmental implications as they affect toxicity and mobility of these toxic species. Bacillus firmus strain TE7, resistant to chromium and arsenic was isolated from tannery effluent. The strain exhibited ability to reduce Cr(VI) and oxidize As(III). It reduced 100 mg L?1 Cr(VI) within 60 h in nutrient broth and oxidized 150 mg L?1 As(III) within 10 h in minimal medium. It also completely reduced 15 mg L?1 Cr(VI) and oxidized 50 mg L?1 of As(III) simultaneously in minimal medium. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first bacterial strain showing simultaneous reduction of Cr(VI) and oxidation of As(III) and is a potential candidate for bioremediation of environments contaminated with these toxic metal species.  相似文献

Emission data from residential wood combustion are usually obtained on test stands in the laboratory but these measurements do not correspond to the operational conditions in the field because of the technological boundary conditions (e.g. testing protocol, environmental and draught conditions). The field measurements take into account the habitual practice of the operators and provide the more reliable results needed for emission inventories. In this study, a workable and compact method for measuring emissions from residential wood combustion in winter conditions was developed. The emissions for fine particle, gaseous and PAH compounds as well as particle composition in real operational conditions were measured from seven different appliances. The measurement technique worked well and was evidently suitable for winter conditions. It was easy and fast to use, and no construction scaffold was needed. The dilution of the sample with the combination of a porous tube diluter and an ejector diluter was well suited to field measurement. The results indicate that the emissions of total volatile organic carbon (TVOC) (17 g kg−1 (of dry wood burned)), carbon monoxide (CO) (120 g kg−1) and fine particle mass (PM1) (2.7 g kg−1) from the sauna stove were higher than in the other measured appliances. In the masonry heaters, baking oven and stove, the emissions were 2.9–9 g kg−1 TVOC, 28–68 g kg−1 CO and 0.6–1.6 g kg−1 PM1. The emission of 12 PAHs (PAH12) from the sauna stove was 164 mg kg−1 and consisted mainly of PAHs with four benzene rings in their structure. PAH12 emission from other appliances was, on average, 21 mg kg−1 and was dominated by 2-ring PAHs. These results indicate that despite the non-optimal operational practices in the field, the emissions did not differ markedly from the laboratory measurements.  相似文献
