Monitoring the levels of trace elements in hair can allow estimating the effects of the geographical location and also can provide a notion of the metal body burden. However, the use of human hair is controversial due to the different confounding factors that could affect the presence of trace elements in hair. As a result, a comprehensive monitoring study was performed in Alcalá de Henares, one of the major cities in the Madrid region, Spain. Trace elements have been monitored in urban topsoils and in human hair of two well-defined and healthy groups of population: children (6–9 years) and adolescents (13–16 years). The city was divided into four areas or zones with different characteristics to assess the possible effect of area of residence and age in the presence of Al, As, Be, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Pb, Sn, Ti, Tl and Zn in soils and hair. There is no current hypothesis that explains the possible effect of the area of monitoring in the distribution of Be, Cr, Ni, Sn and Ti found in these urban soils, maybe because urban soils receive high disturbance, and there are many factors involved. The presence of most of the trace elements monitored was significantly higher in the hair of the children population, except for Sn and Zn. This could be attributed mainly to dietary habits. Other factors influencing metal content in hair such as environmental factors would have had a minimal effect in the population groups here studied. Finally, none of the levels of trace elements studied in hair were significantly correlated with levels measured in the topsoils of public parks in Alcalá de Henares, with the exception of Pb in adolescent participants.  相似文献

The occurrence of four classes of 17 commonly used antibiotics (including fluoroquinolones, tetracycline, sulfonamides, and macrolides) was investigated in the sediments of the Yellow River, Hai River and Liao River in northern China by using rapid resolution liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Higher concentrations were detected for most antibiotics in the sediments of the Hai River than in the sediments of the other rivers. Norfloxacin, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin and oxytetracycline in the three rivers were most frequently detected with concentrations up to 5770, 1290, 653 and 652 ng/g, respectively. High frequencies and concentrations of the detected antibiotics were often found in the downstream of large cities and areas influenced by feedlot and fish ponds. Good fitted linear regression equations between antibiotic concentration and sediment physicochemical properties (TOC, texture and pH) were also found, indicating that sediment properties are important factors influencing the distribution of antibiotics in the sediment of rivers.  相似文献

The concentrations of air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and ozone characterised by very fast chemical reactions can significantly vary within urban street-canyon due to the short distances between sources and receptor. With the primary objective to analyse this issue, NO, NO2, NOx, O3, BTX, and wind flow field were continuously measured for 1 week at two heights (a street-level yard and a 25-m-high rooftop) in an urban canyon in Suzhou (China). The yard ozone concentrations were found to be up to six times lower than on the roof. Different frequency distributions (FD), dynamical and chemical processes of the pollutant variations from yard to roof are discussed to explain the findings. The predominant factors for the dissimilar pollutant vertical diffusion at the two measurement locations were associated to dissimilar fluid-dynamic and heterogeneous removal effects that likely induced dissimilar ozone chemical processes relative to NOx and BTX precursors.  相似文献

The implication of organic acids in Pb translocation was studied in two species varying in shoot lead accumulation, Sesuvium portulacastrum and Brassica juncea. Citric, fumaric, malic and α-cetoglutaric acids were separated and determined by HPLC technique in shoots, roots and xylem saps of the both species grown in nutrient solutions added with 200 and 400 μM of Pb(II). The lead content of the xylem saps was determined by ICP–MS. Results showed that S. portulacastrum is more tolerant to Pb than B. juncea. Lead concentration in xylem sap of the S. portulacastrum was significantly greater than in that of B. juncea. For both species, a positive correlation was established between lead and citrate concentrations in xylem sap. However minor relationship was observed for fumaric, malic and α-cetoglutaric acids. In the shoots lead treatment also induced a significant increase in citric acid concentration. Both observations suggest the implication of citric acid in lead translocation and shoot accumulation in S. portulacastrum and B. juncea. The relatively high accumulation of citric acid in xylem sap and shoot of S. portulacastrum could explain its high potential to translocate and accumulate this metal in shoot suggesting their possible use to remediate Pb polluted soils.  相似文献

Root absorption of chiral phenyl-35S-fonofos in cotton and corn plants revealed stereoselective differences between the two enantiomers. (S)p-Fonofos was absorbed at a faster initial rate and to a greater extent than the (R)p enantiomer in both plant species. Approximately 40% and 62% of the applied radioactivity was absorbed into the cotton plant 12 hr after application of (R)p- and (S)p-fonofos, respectively. In the corn plant, approximately 25% and 63% of the applied (R)p- and (S)p-fonofos was absorbed in the first 12 hrs. Little qualitative or quantitative difference in plant translocation between fonofos enantiomers was observed. (R)p-fonofos was found to be metabolized to a greater extent than the (S)p enantiomer in both cotton and corn plants.  相似文献

Systematic modelling of the fate of benzene and the chlorobenzenes is presented which follows a four-stage process of chemical classification, quantifying discharge rates and environmental concentrations, evaluative assessment of fate and regional mass balance modelling has been carried out for the southern Ontario region. The EQC model was applied to determine the principal transport and transformation processes experienced by this group of chemicals, which vary considerably in volatility and hydrophobicity. Observed environmental concentrations are in satisfactory agreement with the predictions of the steady state Level III ChemCAN model of chemical fate. A multiple pathway human exposure model which estimates intake of contaminants by residents of southern Ontario has been developed and applied to these chemicals. A novel method of deducing maximum tolerable environmental concentrations is presented. Results suggest that benzene and 1,4-dichlorobenzene are present in the environment at levels sufficient to cause exposures near allowable daily intake (ADI) levels for the general population, but the other substances are present at levels which result in exposure ranging from 1/10 to 1/1000 of the ADI.  相似文献

Photodegradation of the herbicide EPTC (S-ethyl-N, N-dipropylthiocarbamate), and the safener dichlormid (2,2-dichloro-N, N-diallylacetamide) has been examined in methanol and in water solutions. Irradiation of EPTC and dichlormid with UV light at 254 nm caused rapid degradation in both media. Remarkable and gradual changes in color of EPTC irradiated solution was observed from clear to yellow then to intense orange. EPTC half-life of elimination in water was 14.0, and 18.5 min, and in methanol 37.2 and 32.2 min, when irradiated with and without dichlormid, respectively. There was significant difference between rate of EPTC degradation in water and methanol in the presence or in the absence of dichlormid. Negligible degradation of EPTC or dichlormid at > 290 nm was observed. Photoproducts were separated and identified using GC or/and thin-layer chromatography then identified using mass spectrometry. It appeared that some products have high molecular weight that formed as a result of dimerization. This is possibly a result of the coupling of radicals that formed through EPTC degradation. The cleavage of C-S and C-N bonds accounted for the formation of these radicals. Gradual dealkylation of the acid chains of EPTC has also occurred. EPTC-sulfoxide, EPTC-sulfone, Propylamine and dipropylamine were detected as photoproducts of EPTC at 254 nm. Dichlormid pathways of degradation at 254 nm were characterized as dechlorination, dealkylation, and hydrolysis both in water and methanol. The findings showed that dichlormid did not significantly affect EPTC photodegradation either at 254 nm or at > 290 nm. The biological/toxicological properties of the photoproducts need further study, particularly the dimer compounds.  相似文献

The excretion of 14C-labelled Cyolane, 24 hours after single oral application was found to be about 50% of the applied dose in urine, faeces and expired air.The activity of Acetylcholine esterase in brain, plasma and erythrocytes, and liver succinate dehydrogenase was studied for 16 weeks in 4 groups of rats after repeated orally daily doses of Cyolane, 0.9, 0.45, 0.09 and 0.045 mg/kg.It has been found that at all the dose levels there were cumulative inhibition effects in brain and blood choline esterase and liver succinate dehydrogenase till the 2nd week and then there was a recovery at low dose rates in blood choline esterase and liver succinate dehydrogenase activities. After 6 - 16 weeks the effects were nearly compensated. At higher doses almost all the rats died after 6 weeks due to the insecticide toxicity.  相似文献

The capability of Scirpus maritimus and of Juncus maritimus to accumulate metals and the role of each plant on the physico-chemical composition of sediments, from Douro river estuary (NW Portugal), were investigated through a year of plants' life. The contents of Al, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn were determined (by atomic absorption spectrophotometry) in sediment, rhizosediments (those in contact with each plant roots and rhizomes) and different tissues of S. maritimus and of J. maritimus. Both plants influenced the sediment composition (concentrating metals around its roots) and were able to bioaccumulate Cd, in spite of some seasonal variations in the metal levels in the system (both in rhizosediments and plants' roots). Therefore, both plants showed to have potential for Cd phytostabilization. S. maritimus could also concentrate Pb in its roots, probably by sorption on the root surface in (hydr)oxide forms, therefore, denoting capability for Pb phytostabilization.  相似文献

Emissions of a precursor of acidity in precipitation, sulphur dioxide (SO2), declined in the UK and the EU (15) by 71% and 72%, respectively, between 1986 and 2001, while nitrous oxide emissions declined by about 40%. Acidity in UK precipitation and the deposition of sulphate in precipitation halved during this period, but reductions were larger in the English Midlands than at the west coast and in high rainfall areas (>2000 mm). There is evidence that the smaller reductions in sulphur deposition in the west and south are due in part to shipping sources of SO2. Reductions in sulphur dry deposition (74%) are larger than in wet deposition (45%), due to changes in the canopy resistance to dry deposition. For reduced nitrogen, there has been a small (10%) reduction in emissions and deposition, while for oxidized nitrogen, a substantial reduction in emissions (40%) occurred but wet deposition of nitrate changed by less than 10%.  相似文献

PCB levels in sediments (bulk and fraction <63 microm), suspended matter and zooplankton from the Belgian continental shelf of the North Sea and the Scheldt estuary were evaluated in relation to their organic carbon content, their lipid content and, for sediments, their particle size distribution. PCB accumulation mechanisms are discussed, considering the importance of direct contamination (adsorption onto the cell surfaces, absorption through the cell walls and partitioning into the cell lipids) for suspended matter and sediments, and of indirect contamination through the food for zooplankton. Assessment of the pollution level of soils and vegetation by fluorine and heavy metals and also of the state of the soil microflora in the impact zone of Kandalaksha aluminium factory is discussed. The significant pollution of natural media by fluorine in the basin of the White Sea is established. Concentration of the total fluorine in the organogenic horizon of the Al-Fe-humus podzol soil at a distance of 20 km in the northern direction from the source of emission exceeds the background level by a factor of 3. In the epicentre of emission the amount of total fluorine in the soil exceeds the background level by a factor of 7-8 (Tolerable Amount: 4-5-fold). It is noted that the soil becomes more alkaline under the influence of fluorine and the increased content of chromium along the soil profile exceeds PC by a factor of 3 in the vicinity of the factory. The differences in the dimensions of bacterial and fungi biomass along the gradient of pollution were not revealed in the impact zone. But the changes in the taxonomic structure of fungi and in the level of their domination along the gradient of pollution were estimated. Floristic composition of the soil algae is represented mainly by unicellular green algae with Chlamydomonas elliptica and Bracteacoccus minor predominating.  相似文献

Sediment trap material was collected during May–December in the period 1996–2008 in three coastal areas and four open sea stations in the Finnish territory of the Baltic Sea. The highest sedimentation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) with a typical source-related congener profile from chlorophenol production dominated by highly chlorinated dibenzofurans was found close to a historical source in the Kymijoki estuary. This was an order of magnitude higher than in other river estuaries and two orders of magnitude higher than in the open sea stations. The sedimentation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) was also higher in river estuaries than in other areas. No significant decrease over a 12 year period of monitoring was found in concentration or in sedimentation in the Kymijoki estuary. In the western Gulf of Finland, the Archipelago Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia, the dominating congeners, calculated as toxic equivalent (TEQ) in sedimentation were 1, 2, 3, 7, 8-PeCDD and 2, 3, 4, 7, 8-PeCDF, often reported as the main congeners in deposition.  相似文献

The enriched mixed culture aerobic and anaerobic bacteria from agricultural soils were used to study the degradation of endosulfan (ES) in aqueous and soil slurry environments. The extent of biodegradation was ∼95% in aqueous and ∼65% in soil slurry during 15 d in aerobic studies and, ∼80% in aqueous and ∼60% in soil slurry during 60 d in anaerobic studies. The pathways of aerobic and anaerobic degradation of ES were modeled using combination of Monod no growth model and first order kinetics. The rate of biodegradation of β-isomer was faster compared to α-isomer. Conversion of ES to endosulfan sulfate (ESS) and endosulfan diol (ESD) were the rate limiting steps in aerobic medium and, the hydrolysis of ES to ESD was the rate limiting step in anaerobic medium. The mass balance indicated further degradation of endosulfan ether (ESE) and endosulfan lactone (ESL), but no end-products were identified. In the soil slurries, the rates of degradation of sorbed contaminants were slower. As a result, net rate of degradation reduced, increasing the persistence of the compounds. The soil phase degradation rate of β-isomer was slowed down more compared with α-isomer, which was attributed to its higher partition coefficient on the soil.  相似文献

Recent trends in nitrogen and sulphur compounds in air and precipitation from a range of Arctic monitoring stations are presented, with seasonal data from the late 70s to 2004 or 2005. Earlier findings of declining sulphur concentrations are confirmed for most stations, while the pattern is less clear for reduced and oxidized nitrogen. In fact there are positive trends for nitrogen compounds in air at several stations. Acidity is generally reduced at many stations while the precipitation amount is either increasing or stable. Variability of sulphate concentrations in air for the period 1991–2000 is reasonably well reproduced at most stations using an Eulerian, hemispherical model. Results for nitrogen compounds are weaker. Scenario studies show that even if large sulphur emission reductions take place in important source regions in South-East Asia in the coming decades, only small changes in Arctic deposition can be expected. This is because South-East Asian emissions have small influence north of the Arctic circle.  相似文献

The long-term effects of UVB exclusion and temperature on the methanol extractable (ME) phenolics (flavonoids, phenolic acids) and iridoids of Menyanthes trifoliata L. (Mt) leaves were studied in northern Finland (68°N) using wooden frames covered with filters for UVB exclusion (polyester filter), control (cellulose acetate filter) and ambient (no filter) conditions. Analysis of ambient plots showed no effect of the daily mean temperature (2σ = 1.58 °C) on the leaf ME compound content and composition, but minimum temperatures decreased the flavonol content. UVB exclusion did not affect the total ME compound content but significantly decreased the proportion of flavonols concomitantly with an increase in iridoids. Due to its high iridoid content, Mt appears as an interesting model plant for studying the iridoid biosynthesis and its regulation under stress conditions.  相似文献

The chemical composition and transfer routes of the Arctic aerosol during summer have been studied at Ny-Alesund, Bjørnøya, Hopen and Jan Mayen in the period August/September 1983. Samples were also collected on mainland Norway to assess the origin of aerosols transported to the Norwegian Arctic. The concentrations of Si, Al, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Pb, Zn and Cu were measured in samples from a six-stage cascade impactor of Battelle design by particle-induced X-ray emissions (PIXE). The concentrations of Cd, Ni, Pb and Zn were also measured in samples from high-volume samplers by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS).Three interesting periods were identified from the element concentrations. At the beginning of the measurement campaign, the air pollutants measured at Ny-Alesund and Hopen most likely originated in northern America and Greenland. A few days later, very high concentrations of Cd and Zn at Ny-Alesund seemed to be due to air mass transfer from the Soviet Union. During the last episode, observed at Ny-Alesund and Hopen in September, elevated concentrations of several anthropogenic pollutants appeared to be due to emissions in Europe.The results show that anthropogenic emissions from sources in western Europe, Eurasia and northern America may pollute the Arctic air not only in winter but in summer as well. Present levels of air pollutants in the Norwegian Arctic in summer are within the range of levels observed in other remote regions, but are one order of magnitude higher than in Antarctica.  相似文献

The intracellular localization of heavy metals using autometallography (AMG) and X-ray microanalysis was studied in the palps, the digestive gland and the gills of mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis, after an experimental exposure to 0.1 mg l(-1) of Hg and 0.1 mg l(-1) of Pb, for 30 and 60 days. In the examined tissues, autometallographical black silver deposits (BSD) were localized mainly in the residual bodies and heterolysosomes of the digestive cells, as well as in the dense bodies of the epithelial cells. Metal deposition after Hg exposure was much more abundant compared to Pb exposure. Using X-ray microanalysis, Hg was traced on the BSD in all examined tissues, while Pb was not traced in these deposits. The results are discussed in comparison to previous results on long-term exposure to the same metals; in addition, the palps are introduced as a new metal storing organ and, finally, the use of X-ray microanalysis under a scanning electron microscope in order to enhance the specificity of AMG is suggested.  相似文献
