Fraser syndrome (MIM 219000) is a rare disorder of autosomal recessive inheritance, characterized by the association of cryptophthalmos, syndactyly and genital abnormalities. Here we report on two cases of Fraser syndrome (cryptophthalmos syndrome) in a non-consanguineous couple, with variable expression in echographic, clinical and autopsy findings. Furthermore, we highlight the difficulties in prenatal diagnosis of Fraser syndrome. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Neu-Laxova is a rare, uniformly lethal, autosomal recessive condition with characteristic limb posturing, facial dysmorphic features, and central nervous system abnormalities. Forty-two cases of Neu-Laxova syndrome have been reported, with only four of these diagnosed prenatally. Three of the four cases were diagnosed at or after 32 weeks' gestation. The fourth case was diagnosed at 22 weeks' gestation in a patient who was followed with serial ultrasound studies due to having a prior affected child. At 19 weeks' gestation, we present the earliest reported prenatal diagnosis of Neu-Laxova syndrome in a primigravida with a non-informative family history. A new case of mosaic tetrasomy 12 p (46, XY/47, XY, + i 12 p), diagnosed during pregnancy from ultrasonographic signs, is reported. We emphasize the peculiar position of the diaphragmatic hernia in this syndrome. Its presence or absence determines the vital prognosis and the age of diagnosis. The knowledge of its possible association with tetrasomy 12 p can contribute considerably to the neonatal diagnosis by directing the work of the cytogeneticist to tissue cultures which enable him to detect the presence of the tetrasomy.  相似文献

A case of monosomy 22 diagnosed prenatally is reported. During pregnancy, ultrasonic observations already revealed several cardiac malformations of the fetus in the 25th week. Following counselling, the pregnancy was terminated. Fetal autopsy revealed several abnormalities associated with DiGeorge syndrome.  相似文献

The tibial hemimelia syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant condition associated with limb deficiencies. We recently diagnosed this condition in a pregnancy at 16·5 weeks' gestation by ultrasound and a positive family history. To our knowledge, this represents the first case to be detected prenatally.  相似文献

Malpuech syndrome (MS) is a rare autosomal recessive syndrome featuring pre- and post-natal growth deficiency, mental retardation, facial dysmorphism, cleft lip and palate (typically midline or bilateral), caudal appendage, renal malformations and male genital abnormalities. A prenatal diagnosis of MS was made in this fetus based on the family history and a combination of conventional and 3D prenatal ultrasound findings. The family were consanguineous with an affected first child. Prenatal ultrasound in the second pregnancy demonstrated bilateral cleft lip and palate in association with intrauterine growth retardation on serial prenatal ultrasound scans. Dysmorphic facial features and a small penis consistent with the diagnosis were confirmed on 3D scanning. Post-natal examination of the neonate confirmed the diagnosis of MS. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first prenatal diagnosis of this syndrome. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present a case of de novo trisomy of distal 19q diagnosed prenatally by cytogenetics and FISH analysis. The autopsy performed after termination of the pregnancy showed major internal and external malformations that are associated with this chromosome abnormality. The prenatal diagnosis of skeletal dysplasias is often initiated by the finding of a shortened extremity during a routine sonographic examination. Second-trimester diagnosis of these anomalies allows the couple to consider the option of terminating a pregnancy when a lethal anomaly is detected. A 21-year-old Bedouin woman underwent routine ultrasonographic screening at 20 weeks' gestation. Severe micromelia, a narrow thorax with shortened ribs, and postaxial polydactyly were detected. The patient delivered a male dwarf at 20 weeks' gestation following prostaglandin induction of labour for a diagnosis of short-rib polydactyly syndrome type III. The prenatal ultrasonographic diagnosis of short-rib polydactyly syndrome type III was made at 20 weeks' gestation, allowing termination of the pregnancy. A proper sonographic approach to skeletal dysplasias allows both early detection and differentiation between lethal and non-lethal anomalies.  相似文献

The Jarcho–Levin syndrome is a specific form of spondylocostal/spondylothoracic dysostosis. There have been various classifications of this syndrome. We present the case of a severe prenatal Jarcho–Levin syndrome, diagnosed by ultrasound examination during the first trimester of pregnancy in a family with no previous medical history of an affected child. X-ray exploration, high-resolution spiral computed tomography and autopsy confirmed the diagnosis. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Joubert syndrome is a rare, autosomal recessive condition, first described by Joubert in 1969. We present a case of Joubert syndrome from a consanguineous family in which, apart from the cerebellar vermis agenesis, ventriculomegaly, bilateral postaxial polydactyly of hands and right foot and micropenis, episodes of fetal breathing pattern with an increased respiratory rate were also demonstrated by prenatal ultrasound scan. At birth the infant showed an odd face and bilateral fleshy nodules of the tongue. He had an abnormal breathing pattern of alternating tachypnea and apnea. Cranial MRI showed molar tooth sign, hydrocephalus and Dandy–Walker malformation. He had nystagmus, and electroretinography showed retinal dystrophy. Galloway–Mowat syndrome (GMS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder and is characterized by marked intrauterine growth retardation, central nervous system anomalies, and early onset nephrotic syndrome. Of the reported cases in the literature, all were diagnosed postnatally. We describe a case of GMS in which only late-onset intrauterine growth restriction was detected by prenatal ultrasound. In her fourth pregnancy, the mother had delivered a male baby with clinical features of GMS who died at seven months of age due to early onset of nephrotic syndrome. In her fifth pregnancy, serial ultrasound examinations were normal during the first and second trimester of pregnancy. Growth restriction and microcephaly were not detectable until 28 to 32 weeks' gestation. At 40 weeks' gestation, a female baby was born with dysmorphic features of GMS. Nephrotic syndrome developed after birth and renal biopsy revealed minimal change nephrotic syndrome. The prenatal course of this case suggests GMS may not be diagnosed in early pregnancy and the only abnormality detected before birth was intrauterine growth restriction. A 49,XXXXX fetus was detected in amniotic fluid cell cultures from a 39-year-old mother. On ultrasonography, growth retardation and bilateral radioulnar synostosis were found. Additional clinical manifestations were mild facial anomalies and hypoplastic ovaries depleted of oocytes. Molecular analysis showed that this aneuploidy arose by successive maternal non-disjunction.  相似文献

68,XX triploidy was found in the amniotic fluid cell culture of a 40-year-old patient. Elective termination of the pregnancy revealed a fetus with multiple congenital anomalies. While this case does show some common features with monosomy X, a greater similarity to the triploidy syndrome is observed.  相似文献
