Summary Sexual selection through female mate choice was investigated in the lekking Jackson's widowbird by applying multivariate selection analysis to observational data from four leks. Males perform a stereotyped jump display on small display courts (dance rings) constructed by the males in open grassland. Females visit the lek solely for mating and nest on their own, away from the lek area. Few cases of interference during courtship and absence of position effects on mating success indicated that female choice within the leks was not pre-empted by male-male competition. In a set of 11 male traits with mating success as the dependent fitness measure, significant selection differentials (covariances) were found for the length of the conspicuous tail and the rate of the jump display, suggesting sexual selection of these traits. They also showed the largest selection gradients (partial effects) and thereby seem to be the cues on which females base their choice. The success of males in obtaining copulations appears to depend on two components: display rate and lek attendance affect the number of female visits, whereas tail length seems to primarily influence the chance of copulating with a visiting female. Tail length was positively related to a measure of body condition, which is of interest with regard to the suggestions that sexual ornaments may serve as indicators of male viability.  相似文献

Summary We studied 13 ruff leks in a small region on the island of Gotland (Sweden) to investigate the effect of lek size on the costs and benefits of lekking for individual males. Male ruffs occur in two behaviourally and morphologically distinct forms, independents (residents plus marginals) and satellites, whose costs and benefits we have assessed separately. These ruff leks had from 1–10 resident (territory-holding) males and were visited daily by satellites, marginals and females from 5–25 May, when most copulations occurred. We used the average number of independent males, counted during censuses taken every 5 min during 2-h observation periods at each lek, as an index of mean lek size. Per independent male, the numbers of both satellites and females increased significantly with mean lek size. Female arrival rate and attendance (total female-minutes) also increased significantly with mean lek size as did the average per capita rate of mating success for resident males (that of satellites was not quite significant). Thus, the dispersion of both of these male categories did not appear to fit an ideal free distribution with respect to mating success. In addition, the number of independent-independent fights per independent and the rate of satellite-resident dyad formation per resident increased significantly with mean lek size. These results suggest that ruffs on larger leks enjoy higher mating success than those on smaller leks but also that costs increase with lek size. We suggest that independent males distribute themselves so as to maximize their own net benefits and that this factor can account for both the occurrence of ruff leks and the variation in their size. Summary Lek breeding systems, where males defend small, clustered mating territories, are thought to occur where the distribution of females is heavily clumped but males are unable to defend resources used by females. In this paper, we describe a breeding system in fallow deer where males are able to defend resources used by females but the most successful bucks instead defend small territories on a traditional mating ground; where the lek is sited in an area not heavily used by females at other times of year and is visited primarily by females in or close to oestrus; and where mating success on the lek is related to territory position and to male phenotype but not to the resources available on different lek territories. Comparisons with other ungulates suggest that lek breeding species fall into two groups: those where leks are regularly visited by herds of females many of which are not in oestrus and those, like fallow deer, where leks are visited primarily by oestrous females. In the latter species, it is unlikely that females visit the lek for ecological reasons.  相似文献

Summary Male ruffs (Philomachus pugnax), a lekking shorebird, can generally be divided into two morphs according to behavior and plumage coloration. Predominantly dark-colored, independent male ruffs defend small territories on a lek, whereas lighter colored satellite males are non-territorial and less site-faithful to a particular lek. The traits associated with the mating success of independent male ruffs were studied at two leks during two seasons on the island of Öland, Sweden in May and June of 1985 and 1987. Using multivariate analyses, three characteristics were found to be significantly related to mating success: high frequency of visits by satellites to an independent male's residence, consistency of lek attendance, and low rates of aggressive behavior. In contrast, mating success was unrelated to the degree of darkness of the independent male nuptial plumage, territory location on the lek, or rate of courtship displays. The use of multivariate analyses helped to resolve conflicting conclusions from previous studies which employed simple statistical analyses, or none at all. Experimental manipulations are suggested which will help to further determine the influence of female mate choice in this lekking system.  相似文献

Female choice on the basis of male traits has been described in an array of taxa but has rarely been demonstrated in reptiles. In the sand lizard (Lacerta agilis), and possibly in other non-territorial reptiles, a male's contribution to a female's fitness is restricted to his genes. In order to choose males of high genetic quality, females have to trade the fitness gain against the costs of active choice. In a Swedish population of sand lizards, long-lived males sired offspring with higher embryonic survival compared to offspring sired by short-lived males. In spite of this female sand lizards did not mate selectively with older and/or larger males. There appeared to be mo reliable cues to male longevity; age-specific male body size was highly variable. Furthermore, estimates of male nuptial coloration did not covary with ectoparasite load and, hence, females cannot use male coloration as a cue to heritable resistance to pathogenic parasite effects. When cues to male genetic quality are poor, or inaccurate, and males make no parental investment, we predict that female choice will be rare. Sand lizard females mating with many partners lay clutches with higher hatching success. Thus, females may obtain good genes for their young by multiple mating, thereby avoiding costs associated with mate choice.  相似文献

Summary Two to five days before sexual maturation, female sierra dome spiders (Linyphia litigiosa: Linyphiidae) undergo a transformation in their behavior toward males that visit their webs. During this latter part of their penultimate instar, females change from consistently positioning themselves far away from males to actively maintaining close proximity, reactions I call avoidant and associative behavior, respectively. Consistent associative behavior ceases after the female's first mating and thus is limited to soon-to-mature penultimate females. When a mate-seeking male fords an associative female, he attempts to guard her until she matures; this is often a multi-day affair. In contrast, males guard immature avoidant and mature mated females for only a single day. This dichotomy in male guarding times can be understood by the fact that associative behavior signals that the female will soon develop peak reproductive value. Upon completion of their final molt, 98% of females immediately mate with the current guarding male. Secondary suitors are not as likely to achieve mating. Moreover, first mates father 1.8 times more offspring, on average, than secondary mates. Whenever they meet on any female's web, males fight until one of the contestants withdraws. Fights typically are intensive, occasionally deadly, and often result in usurpation of the web by the newly arriving male. Larger males win more fights, but other qualities (e.g., vigor and persistence) appear to be important when contestants differ by less than 10–20% in body weight. Prolonged (i.e., multi-day) guarding of associative females enhances the intrasexual selection process by ensuring that every male that arrives at the web finds it already guarded. Therefore every male that finds the web becomes a participant in a series of male-male conflicts and web usurpations which span the period between the resident female's commencement of associative behavior and her sexual maturation. Since unforced male departures from the webs of associative females are rare, victors are retained on the web until they themselves lose a fight. This facilitates a steady increase in the fighting ability of sequential guards throughout the associative period, up until female maturation and mating. On my study site, first mates represented the final winners in a combative sorting process based on a minimum average of 2 fights; they were heavier and larger than secondary mates and randomly sampled males. The combination of (1) associative behavior by nearly mature females, (2) high mating propensity of newly mature females, and (3) first male sperm priority, constitutes a system whereby females enhance male-male competition and boost the expected fighting prowess of the principal sire of their progeny. Since males appear to make no material contribution toward progeny, the female's behavior probably functions to improve the genetic constitution of the offspring. In addition, the timing of associative behavior may limit prolonged guarding by food-stealing males to a period (1) encompassing the female's pre-molt fast and (2) before the heavy yolking of eggs, thereby ameliorating the nutritional costs of intrasexual selection.  相似文献

Summary Nestling feeding by males is less common among birds with polygynous mating systems than in monogamous species, because of the pronounced trade-off between parental behavior and the attraction of additional mates. In this study, however, we found that male red-winged blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) commonly assisted females in feeding nestlings in several Ontario marshes. Male parental care was additional to that provided by females, and it significantly enhanced the fledging success of nests (Table 2). Male redwings did not help to feed all nests on their territories: primary and secondary nests were much more likely to receive male parental care than tertiary and later nests. Contrary to expectation, male parental care was not restricted to the nests of primary females: a greater proportion of secondary than primary nests were assisted (Tables 4a and b). The presence of new females settling on the territory at the same time that a resident female had nestlings, resulted in males deferring parental care until a later brood. This suggests that males trade off the recruitment of females against parental care to an existing brood. Although the number of nestlings fledging from a male's territory was strongly influenced by the number of females in the harem, males could additionally increase their reproductive success by feeding nestlings in one or more nests on their territories (Fig. 2). The reproductive success of females was significantly enhanced by male assistance in feeding nestlings (Table 3). However, those females not receiving male assistance on territories of feeding males did not suffer a significantly reduced reproductive success in comparison to females on territories of non-feeding males (Table 2). Males varied considerably in the quality of brood care given. We therefore suggest that the quality of male parental care may be a factor considered by females in choosing a breeding situation.  相似文献

Females are generally assumed to prefer larger, more dominant males. However, a growing number of studies that control for male-male competition have shown no correlation between dominance and attractiveness. Aggressive males can interfere with female mate preference either by physically coercing females into mating or by driving submissive males away and restricting mate choice. The most common method of assessing female mate choice is by using simultaneous two-choice tests. These control for male-male interactions, but usually interfere with physical and chemical cues involved in mate selection or alter male behaviour. They are therefore unsuitable for many study species, especially insects. Another method is the no-choice test that measures a females latency to mating when placed with a single male as an indication of male attractiveness. No-choice tests control for male-male aggression while allowing full contact between pairs (they allow actual mating to be directly observed rather than to occur based on a correlated behaviour). So far, however, no study has confirmed that males that entice females to mate sooner actually enjoy increased longer-term mating success. As such, the accuracy of no-choice tests as a method of examining mate choice remains untested. Here, we used no-choice tests on the black field cricket, Teleogryllus commodus, to show that (1) females did not prefer males that won fights (dominant males), and (2) latency to mating predicts actual mating success. We have clearly demonstrated the usefulness of no-choice tests and, considering the advantages of this method, they should be more often considered for a wider variety of taxa.Communicated by D. Summary Mating behaviour of the katydid Metaballus sp. varies. At sites QS and DB (in 1982) females competed for access to calling males and males chose mates by mating with heavier, more fecund females. At another site (BR) there was no evidence of role-reversal in reproductive behaviour, and males were observed to compete for mates. This species has a large spermatophore, a product of male reproductive glands, that is eaten by the female after mating. Males at the DB site had small reproductive glands. This suggests that some aspect of the QS and DB environments decreases spermatophore production; spermatophores become a limiting resource for females resulting in the reversal in reproductive roles observed at these sites. A field experiment that involved moving individuals from site BR to QS in 1983 determined that mating system was influerced by site (Table 1). At BR, males produced a continuous calling song, a third of the males observed attracted mates, and called for about 30 min before the female arrived; courtship duration was short. Males that were moved from BR to QS encountered a higher density of receptive females as all males attracted females after an average of just 3 min of calling. They changed their behaviour by producing short periodic bursts of song (zipping), and by courting females for long periods of time. The long courtship period may function as as a mate-assessment period for males. The reproductive behaviour of BR males moved to QS differed from that of native QS males only in the length of time spent in copula.  相似文献

Summary The reproductive success of female house sparrows mated with polygynous males depended to some extent on the aid received from their mates. Polygynous males fed nestlings at the same rate as monogamous males although polygynous males gave aid almost exclusively to one of their mates (the preferred). As a consequence, the number and quality of young raised by preferred females were similar to those of monogamous females, whereas nonaided females experienced a reduction of clutch size, hatching success, and fledgling quality. Males aided the harem female that hatched her clutch earliest (in 11 out of 12 cases). However, harem females that laid eggs earliest (i.e., the potential preferred) lost eggs and/or nestlings more frequently than harem females that delayed laying. This resulted from competing females' infanticide suited for redirecting males' aid. All polygynously mated females delayed the start of a new clutch and reproduced fewer times per season than monogamous females. Consequently, monogamy seems to be the optimum mating situation for females; whereas polygynous males raised more young per year than monogamous males, interference between harem females reduced their maximum expected success.  相似文献

Summary I studied the mating strategies of razorbills Alca torda, a monogamous colonial seabird, during 1987–1989 in Wales, U.K. The outstanding feature of the study population's mating system was the performance of most copulations in mating arenas outside the colony. Females visited the arenas and sometimes accepted extra-pair copulations (EPCs), and males aggressively competed for EPCs. During the fertilizable period of most females, the arenas resembled leks because they contained no resources except mates, and males contributed only sperm to extra-pair females. Typical of leks, the operational sex ratio was strongly male-biased, and male mating success was highly skewed. To examine the potential for sexual selection to operate in this system, I correlated male EPC success with variables that could be associated with male-male competition and/or female choice. The frequencies of three behaviors (interference of copulation attempts, fights won against other males, and EPC attempts), accounted for 62% of the variance in EPC success and were strongly intercorrelated, with interference explaining most of the variance in a multivariate test. EPC success was not correlated with body size, age, paired status or either of two estimates of the time spent in the arena. The hypothesis that male EPC success was determined by active female choice was tested by examining the relative success (EPCs per attempt) of males. Relative success was not correlated with any of the three behaviors associated with absolute success, or with age, body size or attendance, suggesting that male-male competition, mainly in the form of copulation interference, is the principal correlate of EPC success. These findings in a monogamous species illustrate that EPC is a secondary mating system of razorbills in which sexual selection operates. The existence of this system outside the colony raises the possibility that lekking for EPCs may also occur within the nesting territories of other monogamous, colonial species but is hidden by competition for nests and breeding partners.  相似文献

Vocalisations of many songbirds, anurans, and insects are shaped by sexual selection. Males acoustically compete for territories, and females choose their mates by means of male courtship songs. In courtship, richness and complexity of elements are often favoured characters. Only a few examples of complex songs are known in mammals. Males of the harem-polygynous sac-winged bat (Saccopteryx bilineata, Emballonuridae) have an uncommonly complex vocal repertoire, and different song types of males are used in the context of territorial defence and in courting females. We classified the daytime vocalisations of 16 male S. bilineata from a colony in Costa Rica, both on the basis of their acoustical properties and the social context in which they occurred. Seven vocalisation types were differentiated: echolocation pulses, barks, chatter, whistles, screeches, territorial songs and courtship songs. Territorial songs were short, rather stereotyped and not obviously directed towards a certain conspecific. They appear to be of importance in male competition for harem territories, in which females roost during the day. Courtship songs were exclusively observed when males displayed towards a female; they were long and complex, and consisted of highly variable elements (calls). We classified the calls in courtship songs of six males into call types, based on acoustical properties, mainly spectral purity and duration. Four call types are described in detail: trills, noise-bursts, short tonal calls, and quasi constant frequency calls. Twelve parameter values were extracted from the most common call type, the trill. Discriminant function analysis of trills showed that different males had different repertoires. This could allow females to use trill parameters for recognition of individual males and thus for mate choice.Communicated by G. Wilkinson  相似文献

Male Callosobruchus maculatus F. (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) inseminate more sperm than females can effectively store in their spermathecae. This study examines the adaptive significance of excess sperm transfer by measuring components of male and female reproductive success in response to manipulating the number of sperm inseminated. The number of sperm transferred during copulation was reduced from 56,000 ±4,462 to 8,700±1,194 by sequentially mating males to virgin females. Reducing the number of sperm inseminated by the first male to mate had no effect on the extent of sperm precedence, but reducing the number of sperm inseminated by the second male resulted in a significant reduction in the extent of sperm precedence. When large numbers of sperm are inseminated the remating refractory period of females is increased. These results indicate that males transferring large numbers of sperm during copulation have a two-fold advantage at fertilization; they are more effective at preempting previously stored sperm and they are likely to father more offspring by delaying the time of female remating. The transfer of excess sperm does not appear to serve as nonpromiscuous male mating effort; the number of eggs laid, their fertility and the subsequent survival of zygotes were unaffected by manipulating the number of sperm inseminated. The underlying mechanisms of sperm precedence were also examined. Simple models of sperm displacement failed to accurately predict the patterns of sperm precedence observed in this species. However, the results do not provide conclusive evidence against the models but rather serve to highlight our limited understanding of the movement of sperm within the female's reproductive tract.  相似文献

Summary In our study of ruff, a lekking shorebird, we found that the lek ratio — the proportion of the total population of males occurring on leks was low, averaging 12% over the breeding season (Fig. 1D). Off-lek males spent approximately the same proportion of time as lek males in displaying to females (Fig. 4). We defined three spacing tacties that male ruffs use to position themselves to court females: Following — directly pursuing females, and two types of lekking behavior, Intercepting — waiting for females at resource-rich sites, and True Lekking — waiting for females at places without any resources other than the males themselves. Males switched among these tactics, causing the lek ratio to vary over the season (Fig. 1 D). Lek ratio increased when the number of females present in the study area plummeted at the end of May, and was positively correlated throughout the season with the copulation rate of the preceding day, suggesting that males were tracking the behavior, as well as the number, of females available (Table 1, Fig. 1). Early in the season, males off leks spent most of their time feeding (Fig. 4), and lek ratio was positively correlated with temperature (Table 1), suggesting that some males may have been unable to lek during cold weather. Males on leks mated at significantly higher rates than Followers (Table 4). On average, males at our interception lek were less site faithful and less peristent than males at true leks, and the interception lek itself disappeared after females stopped coming to use its adjacent resource (Table 2, Fig. 5). The most successful individuals in our population were the True Lekking males, rather than the Interceptors.In addition to the conditinal lekking tactics described here, ruff display a dimorphism in behaviorat leks. Independent males defend small courts on leks, while Satellite males share courts and mutually display with independents Both independents and satellites may use all three conditional tactics. Summary We used field surveys, field experiments and experiments in artificial pools to study the effects of variation in sex ratio and density on mating dynamics of a stream water strider, Aquarius remigis. Our field survey documented the existence of hot spots, sites of higher than average total gerrid density, a male-biased sex ratio, and higher than average female mating activity. Female gerrids frequently changed sites, usually moving upstream, perhaps to spread their eggs among many sites. Male gerrids showed two movement strategies: some males frequently changed sites, while other males were stationary at hot spots. Surprisingly, smaller males tended to be stationary at hot spots. A field manipulation of the availability of refuges for females to avoid harassment by males supported the notion that males prefer hot spots because they are sites where a scarcity of refuge for females makes it relatively easy for males to intercept females. Experiments in plastic pools compared sites with 20 males: 5 females (simulating hot spots) to pools with 5 males: 5 females. The rate of male harassment of females was higher in 20:5 pools as compared to 5:5 pools. In response to increased male harassment, females reduced their activity on the water and increased their time spent out of the water and thus unable to forage. Males showed a large male mating advantage (LMMA) in 5:5 pools, but, surprisingly, not in 20: 5 pools. This pattern can explain the field observation that small males prefer hot spots. A behavioral mechanism that can explain the LMMA is as follows. Mating occurs when males overcome female resistance. Larger males have a mating advantage over smaller males if females resist heavily. Increased harassment (e.g., in 20:5 pools as compared to 5:5 pools) might result in reduced female resistance to males and thus a reduced LMMA. Females also showed some non-random mating by size that might reflect an interplay between male preference for large females and the avoidance of males by large females. Correspondence to: A. The commensal marine isopod Jaera hopeana Costa, 1853 was reared in the laboratory through 30 generations in the absence of its host, Sphaeroma serratum, to study its development and reproductive behaviour. It was found that adult males take virtually any opportunity to associate with a young conspecific in manca-I stage (first free-living stage) and carry it around in a characteristic position. This male-manca(I) amplexus ends during the manca's first postmarsupial molt (manca-I to manca-II) at an average age of about 9 d after hatching from the marsupium. Entry into amplexus does not alter a manca's molt timing, the duration of the amplexus thus depending exclusively on the manca's age when it joined by a male. Given a choice, males do not prefer manca-I close to molting over those just hatched. With the first postmarsupial molt, long before sexual maturity, female J. hopeana become receptive to mating. Before a female manca is released from amplexus, it is inseminated by its male partner. Sperm transferred to young immature females are stored within special sperm stores until they are needed for fertilization. The male-manca(I) amplexus seems to be a precopula, wherein males wait for their partners to molt and become sexually receptive. Nevertheless, it is inevitable that every second amplexus on average ends unsuccessfully: although manca-I have already been determined irreversibly (and probably genetically) as males and females in equal numbers, adult males are unable to predict which manca-I are potential mates and which are not. Males accept any manca-I as a precopula partner, and even when given a choice they do not prefer female over male manca-I. From the manca-II stage onward, females are continuously receptive to mating for the rest of their life, and mating can occur immediately upon contact of the partners without any significant investment in energy and time (en passant copulation).  相似文献

Summary The degree to which lekking and non-lekking male manakins select display sites in order to maximise proximity to females was examined by contrasting movements of females with male dispersion. Data on female visiting patterns, male courtship disruption, and mating skew were also collected over three successive breeding seasons. For the five lek-breeding species, female home-ranges were 3–7 times larger than those of adult males. Female movements were concentrated around leks, fruiting places and stream bathing sites. None of the females monitored by radio-tracking expanded her normal range in order to visit males on leks. On the contrary, feeding bouts of females frequently preceded a visit to potential mates at neighboring leks. Despite small sample sizes, significant correlations were found between female home-range size and male clustering (distances between neighboring leks and distances between neighboring males), as predicted by the female choice model and the hotspot model. Adult and immature male home-range sizes were not significantly correlated with male dispersion or female ranges. On the other hand, males and females of the only non-lekking species exhibited similar use of space and home-range size. Male settlement at sites with high levels of female traffic showed that the hotspot model is adequate to explain differences in male dispersion among sympatric lekking species. Comparisons with other studies suggest that apparent female choice could be overidden by past and present male-male interactions or female mate-comparison tactics. In fact, both the hotspot model and the attractiveness hypothesis appear to shape male dispersion on leks: males appear to settle under hotspot conditions with despotic rules generated through bias in female choice or male-male interference. It is proposed that the evolution of leks is ecologically motivated by the spatio-temporal distribution of trophic resources, initially leading to a dispersed male-advertisement polygyny. Following this, a foraging ecology that promotes high mobility by females and the magnetic effect of mating skew in particular males may have favored clustering on exploded leks. Later, the development of male-male interference and the increasing female home-range size could have led to the evolution of classical leks.  相似文献

Summary Recent correlational studies of lekking sage grouse suggest that male vocal display attracts females. To test this hypothesis further, the natural displays of a territorial male were supplemented with the tape-recorded display of another, reproductively-successful, individual. Significantly, more females approached the speaker's location on days when the recording was played, and also on non-playback days immediately following a playback, than on other non-playback days (Fig. 1). Analysis of male displays indicated that females were responding to the playback itself rather than to changes in male behavior. The after-response following a playback suggests that some females present during a playback remembered its location and approached on a subsequent lek visit. The results provide necessary support for the epigamic function of vocal display, and suggest ways in which female responses to male display may influence lek structure.  相似文献

The sexy son hypothesis suggests that females obtain future fitness benefits from mating with polygynous males through the inheritance by their sons of traits contributing to mating success. We tested this hypothesis in the facultatively polygynous European starling (Sturnus vulgaris) in two ways. We first compared sons of monogynous and polygynous free-living males for their abilities in nest site acquisition and female-directed behaviors in controlled aviary tests. We then investigated eggs laid in monogynous and polygynous matings for concentrations of maternal steroid hormones that could affect behavioral differentiation of sons. Sons of polygynous fathers defended more nest boxes and produced more courtship song than sons of monogynous fathers. Mean concentrations of maternal androstenedione (A4), 5-dihydrotestosterone (DHT), testosterone (T), and 17-estradiol (E) in yolks were not affected by mating status. However, the within-clutch pattern of A4 depended on mating status, with higher concentrations in last than in first eggs of clutches of monogynous but not polygynous matings. These results suggest that (1) sons may inherit from their fathers behavioral qualities for the successful acquisition of nest sites and attraction of mates; (2) differential exposure to maternal steroid hormones during development in the egg is unlikely the cause of the behavioral differences between adult sons of monogynous and polygynous fathers; and (3) females adjust the within-clutch pattern of androgen to mating status, possibly in response to the expected contribution of their mate to nestling care.  相似文献

Summary The lantern bass, Serranus baldwini, is a small hermaphroditic serranid found adjacent to coral reefs throughout the Caribbean. Data from gonad inspection, spawning behavior, and gamete release from individuals all confirm that populations consist of simultaneous hermaphrodites and males. This gender pattern appears to be sequential, with larger males derived from smaller hermaphrodites. The social system is haremic, with the male defending an area containing 1–7 hermaphrodites. The social system and gender pattern are similar to those of the eastern Pacific serranid, Serranus fasciatus. Males obtain disproportionately high mating success by being nearly the sole mates of hermaphrodites within their harems. Hermaphrodites obtain very low levels of mating success through male function. This pattern may result from female choice by hermaphrodites, mate sequestering tactics by males, or both. The serranids that change gender from hermaphrodite to male appear to have a higher environmental potential for polygyny than other simultaneous hermaphrodites in this family. Factors that may maintain male function in hermaphroditic S. baldwini are outlined, but none currently provides clear evidence for why this species has not evolved to protogyny.  相似文献
