The toxicity of seawater dispersions of a chemical dispersant to two marine crustaceans was investigated in the presence and absence of various quantities of a non-toxic mineral oil. From the results and a physical-chemical partitioning analysis, a limiting value of the oil-water partition coefficient of the toxic compounds is deduced suggesting that essentially all of the toxic compounds in the dispersant will partition into solution in water following dispersant application to an oil spill. This conclusion simplifies interpretation and prediction of the toxic effects of a dispersed oil spill.The combined bioassay-partitioning procedure may have applications to the study of the toxicity of other complex mixtures such as industrial effluents.  相似文献

Abstract

A bacteria additives treatment experiment in assessing the changes in gaseous mass transfer from stored swine manure is presented. The experiment is tested for ammonia, methane, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide emission data sampled from pilot swine manure columns and analyzed by GC/MS. The result shows that bacteria additives slightly reduce the methane and carbon dioxide releases, while the same additives do not show any effect on the reduction of ammonia. The hydrogen sulfide contents of stored swine manure continued to be low. Gas concentrations emitted from treated and untreated stored swine manure were: 3.76 and 2.2 ppm for methane, 0.35 and 0.11 ppm for ammonia, and 1000 and 470 ppm for carbon dioxide, respectively. A simple model to estimate gas emission rates is also developed from the viewpoint of two‐film resistance theory. The average emission rates calculated from the model for methane, ammonia, and carbon dioxide are respectively: 0.01, 0.0005, and 13.98 g/min from untreated stored manure; while 0.07, 0.096, and 0.55 g/min from treated manure. The emission model also indicates that for most gaseous pollutants of environmental concern, liquid phase transfer coefficient controls the rate of volatile compounds emitted from stored swine manure and gas phase transfer coefficient has insignificant effect in the calculation of overall mass transfer coefficient.  相似文献

During the past several years, chlorine residuals and chlorinated organic compounds in drinking waters and aquatic environments have become a significant topic of study for scientists concerned about the quality of life in aquatic ecosystems as well as general public health. The effects of direct toxicity and/or carcinogenicity to human and aquatic life are the focal points for this concern.The effects of chloramines and chlorinated organic compounds present in the water distribution system after chlorination treatments are reviewed. Also discussed are the effects of chlorinated discharges from municipal secondary treatment plants and power plants on human health and aquatic life. Following simulated aerial spraying of Matacil® in field and tank experiments, the concentration of aminocarb increased in the subsurface water for some hours: 22 h in the case of the field and 72 h for the tank. Thereafter, the concentration of Matacil® declined exponentially in subsurface waters. The equation for this, A = 4.834 + 0.165 g ? 0.155T, can be used to predict the concentration of aminocarb in the lentic environment (A, μgL?1), providing the application rate (g ha?1) and time after application (T in h) are known.  相似文献

分别采用黄菖蒲(IrispseudacorusL.)、狭叶香蒲(TyphaangustifoliaL.)和铜绿微囊藻(Microcystisaeruginosa)共生培养的实验方法研究了不同质量浓度黄菖蒲、狭叶香蒲对铜绿微囊藻的化感作用。结果表明,黄菖蒲在质量浓度大于10g/L时对初始密度为1.0×10^7ind/mL的铜绿微囊藻具有较好的抑制作用,表现为黄菖蒲质量浓度为10、20和40g/L时,第15天对铜绿微囊藻的抑制率分别为30.1%、51.8%和84.0%;狭叶香蒲在质量浓度大于20g/L时对铜绿微囊藻有明显的抑制作用,表现为狭叶香蒲质量浓度为20g/L和40g/L时,第15天对铜绿微囊藻的抑制率分别为34.2%和77.7%,实验过程中,铜绿微囊藻叶绿素a含量逐渐减少,而藻密度、SOD活性及MDA含量先增加后逐渐降低,表明经过一段时间持续地化感胁迫,黄菖蒲和狭叶香蒲可以诱导铜绿微囊藻产生氧化胁迫,导致细胞结构严重损伤和叶绿素大量分解,从而强烈抑制铜绿微囊藻的生长。  相似文献

Abstract

Fourteen cultivars of bai cai (Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis var. communis) were grown in the nutrient solutions containing 0–0.5 μg mL?1 of cadmium (Cd) to investigate genotypic differences in the effects of Cd exposure on the plant growth and uptake and distribution of Cd in bai cai plants. The Cd exposure significantly reduced the dry and fresh weights of roots and shoots, the dry weight ratio of shoot/root (S/R), total biomass, and chlorophyll content (SPAD value). Cd concentrations in bai cai ranged from 13.3 to 74.9 μg g?1 DW in shoots and from 163.1 to 574.7 μg g?1 DW in roots under Cd exposure, respectively. The considerable genotypic differences of Cd concentrations and accumulations in both shoots and roots were observed among 14 bai cai cultivars. Moreover, Cd mainly accumulated in the roots. Cd also caused the changes of uptake and distribution of nutrients in bai cai and under the influence of cadmium, the concentration of potassium (K) decreased in shoot and increased in root. However, the concentrations of magnesium (Mg), phosphorus (P), manganese (Mn), boron (B), and iron (Fe) increased in shoots and decreased in roots. In addition, Cd exposure resulted in an increase in calcium (Ca), sulphur (S), and zinc (Zn) concentrations in both shoots and roots but had no significant effects on the whole uptake of the examined mineral nutrients except for S.  相似文献

浸提分离法提取皂素清洁工艺研究   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
提出一种通过溶剂提取将游离皂苷与淀粉、纤维等成分分离,从源头上减少用水量、耗酸量和污染物排放量的皂素清洁生产工艺。首先对溶剂提取条件进行优化,得出最佳工艺条件为:90%(体积比)乙醇溶液,料液比1∶7,沸腾回流提取3 h,重复提取3次。然后通过气质联用(GC/MS)分析了皂素废水的有机物组成。研究结果表明,清洁工艺皂素产率为1.51%(降低3.82%),用酸量比传统工艺减少了71%,头道液COD浓度降低了46%,每100 g原料排放的COD总量下降了84%;皂素废水的有机物污染物主要为糠醛及其衍生物,清洁工艺废水的有机物含量更低,更易降解。  相似文献

研究了在紫外杀菌灯(λmax=253.7nm,30W)照射下,添加还原铁粉的活性艳红X-3B水溶液的脱色作用。当pH=3.5,铁粉投加量为2.0g/L时,20mg/L活性艳红X-3B溶液在光照180min后的脱色率为79%。脱色为动力学零级反应。染料溶液的pH、铁粉投加量、活性艳红初始浓度对脱色有影响。初步探讨了脱色反应的机理。  相似文献

Protection of the environment is critically dependent on the quality of data used in decision making. Whether the decisions are part of the scientific process or relate to application of the laws governing people and their living conditions, good quality data are required/needed by two disciplines with distinct differences. This paper examines some differences between science and the law, provides a brief history of science in law, discusses the effects of law on science, compares United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) guidance and U.S. Supreme Court credible science criteria. Abstract

The quality of many golf courses and other turfgrass areas often requires high levels of cultural management. The fact that this level of maintenance usually includes the use of preemergent herbicides has caused concern about their potential for ground water contamination. Much of this concern is based on extrapolation from agricultural situations rather than data developed from studies conducted in field turfgrass situations. To address this data gap, a two‐year field project evaluating the behaviour and mobility of the commonly used preemergent herbicides, benfluralin, trifluralin, bensulide, oxadiazon. pendimethalin, and DCPA with its two metabolites was conducted at OARDC/The Ohio State University, Wooster, Ohio, in 1988–89. Plots were located on a site with thatch (WT) and one with no thatch (NT)to further clarify the impact of thatch on herbicide behavior. Treatments were applied in April and samples of thatch and four zones of soil (0–2.5, 2.5–5, 7.5–10 and 22.5–25cm) were collected throughout the year and analyzed for residue dissipation. Residues of pendimethalin, benfluralin, and trifluralin in the 22.5–25 cm zone were below the limit of determination. No detectable oxadiazon residues were found in this zone at the WT site in 1988 but on two occasions, residues of 0.01 and 0.02 kg/ha were found in 1989. At the NT site, residues in this zone on one occasion were 0.02 kg/ha in 1988 and none in 1989. Residues of bensulide in the same zone ranged not detectable (ND)‐0.02 kg/ha in both locations. The DCPA residues in the 22.5–25 cm zone ranged ND‐0.10 kg/ha (WT), ND‐0.27 kg/ha (NT) in 1988. and ND‐0.02 kg/ha (WT), ND‐0.04 kg/ha (NT) in 1989. The residues of SDS 1449, the less stable of two dacthal metabolites, were very low but higher in 1988 than in 1989 in both locations. The SDS 954 residues in 22.5–25 cm zone ranged ND‐0.1 kg/ha (WT), and ND‐0.16 kg/ha (NT) in 1988, and ND‐0.26 kg/ha (WT), and ND‐0.27 kg/ha (NT) in 1989.

Some amount of all herbicides applied carried over into the spring of the year following application but oxadiazon and bensulide were the most persistent.  相似文献

Serum and blubber of pup harbor (Phoca vitulina), grey (Halichoerus grypus) and harp (Phoca groenlandica) seals from the Estuary and the Gulf of St. Lawrence were analyzed for polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Concentrations of ∑PBDEs (on lipid weight basis) in tissues of harbor seal pups inhabiting the St. Lawrence Estuary were about five times higher than in those from a colony located in the northern Gulf. Harp seal pups have the lowest levels of ∑PBDEs among the seal species born in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Lipid normalized concentrations of ∑PBDEs in serum and blubber were strongly correlated, suggesting that the blood collection as a less invasive method could be used to monitor ∑PBDEs in pups. This study shows that fluvial inputs of PBDEs are important to the St. Lawrence marine ecosystem and that inhabiting harbor seal pups have a substantial exposure to PBDEs at a critical developmental stage. In addition, the observed difference in PBDE levels between harp and grey or harbor seal pups from the Gulf of St. Lawrence is explained by the difference in diets of their mothers which is linked with their residency time in the Gulf and their seasonal migration pattern.  相似文献

A nicotine-degrading bacterium, strain HF-2, was isolated from tobacco waste-contaminated soil and identified as a member of Arthrobacter sp. based on morphology, physiological tests, 16S rDNA sequence and phylogenetic characteristics. At thermal denaturation test indicated that the G + C mol% of strain HF-1 was 63.5. The relationship between the growth of the isolate and the nicotine degradation suggested that strain HF-2 could utilize nicotine as sole sources of carbon, nitrogen and energy. Blue pigment was observed during the nicotine degradation by strain HF-2. The isolate grew well at 20 to 33°C, initial pH 6.5 to 8.0 and 0.5 to 2.0 g L?1 of nicotine concentration in the nicotine inorganic salt media. The maximum growth and nicotine degradation occurred at 30°C, initial pH 7.0 and 0.7 g·L?1 of nicotine concentration in media under natural incubation condition. Strain HF-2 could degrade 100% of nicotine under the optimized incubation conditions for 43 h. The concentrations of nicotine were monitored by high performance liquid chromatography. This study demonstrates Arthrobacter sp. strain HF-2 had a great ability to degrade nicotine, and it may be available for the application to the bioremediation of environments contaminated by tobacco waste.  相似文献

实验利用射频磁控溅射镀膜工艺,分别在光纤和石英玻璃上成功制备了ZnO薄膜。采用X射线衍射仪、原子力显微镜和荧光分光光度计对薄膜进行了测试分析,并对其光催化降解苯酚的性能进行了对比测试。结果表明,该薄膜具有良好的C轴取向性,光致发光峰分别位于362nm、421nm和486nm附近,且随着薄膜样品晶粒的减小而出现蓝移,光纤上ZnO薄膜的光催化能力是以石英玻璃为基底的ZnO薄膜的193倍,光催化效果显著。  相似文献
