A numerical simulation code has been developed to analyze the coupled electro-aerodynamic phenomena within an electrostatic precipitator operated in both the positive and negative corona modes. The space charge and current densities, as well as the static and space charge components of the electric field, are first obtained using the known cross-sections for ionization and negative ion formation. Data includes the effects of fluid flow. The above quantities (except the static field) are then corrected in a subsequent iteration for the presence of dust particles of known size distribution, charges predominantly by the field charging mechanism. The precipitator collection efficiency is calculated from the trajectories of the charged dust particles. For theory comparison, the collection efficiencies of model precipitators were measured by light-scattering techniques using oil drops as test particles. The variation of efficiency with wire-to-wire spacing will be discussed as a case study.  相似文献

This paper presents the results, both pilot and full-scale, of experience with the application of wet electrostatic precipitation technology for the control of fine particle emissions from industrial processes. Performance data involving the collection of such difficult-to-clean emissions as a sulfuric acid mist and recovery boiler salt fume are presented. The measured wet precipitator performance parameters (e.g., SCA, effective migration velocity) are compared to those reported in literature for dry precipitators operating on equivalent processes. Particular emphasis is directed toward examining wet electrostatic precipitator performance levels in controlling very high concentrations of submicron fume with the accompanying problem of space charge corona quenching. Relationships between these performance data and specific wet precipitator operating parameters such as operating voltage and current density are also examined.  相似文献

The electrostatic granular filter developed by Combustion Power Company combines a moving-bed filter with an electrostatic grid for high-efficiency collection of particulate. The coulomb charge occurring naturally on particulate from combustion or other processes in which tribocharging occurs is sufficient such that imposition of an electric field substantially enhances mechanical collection in the packed filter. A mathematical model is presented which accounts for the major parameters affecting electrostatic performance. Experimental data developed in an industrial unit retrofitted with electrostatic equipment and a pilot-scale filter demonstrates dramatic improvement in opacity and outlet loading; the industrial unit achieved 99% collection efficiency with less that 4 Iwd (1kPa) pressure drop. Data from the pilot-scale filter has shown that collection of micron-size particulate is especially enhanced with the electric field and has confirmed the 99% overall collection capability demonstrated in the industrial unit. The design of a 420,000 acfm (1200 m3/min) system being installed at Weyerhaeuser Company's Longview, Washington plant is also discussed.  相似文献

Fine particle filtration efficiencies of electrically enhanced granular beds are computed and compared with available experimental data. Collection efficiencies of a single bed sphere in a gaseous flow are first calculated by numerically solving the equations of particle motion. The collection mechanisms incorporated here are inertial impaction, interception, and charged fine particle-imposed electric field interaction. The approach is based upon a “unit cell” model which enables one to include the effects of surrounding bed particles on the collection process. Stokes' flow and potential flow are used to model the gas flow around the bed particle. Total efficiency is computed by integrating the single-sphere collection efficiency over the bed volume. These calculated total bed efficiencies compare satisfactorily with data obtained from an existing granular bed facility over a range of parameter values. Both theory and experimental data show that the electrical force significantly enhances particulate collection in granular beds.  相似文献

A new laboratory test system for electron beam ionization in electrostatic precipitator geometries has been constructed to measure ion current density as a function of voltage difference for clean plate (no dust contamination) conditions. The new system incorporates improved electrodes which withstand an applied voltage of ± 55 kV, a factor of 5 increase over the previous test system. A 3 MeV Van de Graaff accelerator produced ionizing electron beams of 1.2 and 2 MeV energy with beam currents of 10.5 and 21 μA in place of corona wire ionization. Ion current densities of up to 130 mA/m2 were measured before breakdown between the plates, and no ion current saturation was observed. A comparison of I-V curves and sparkover voltages for various beam energies, currents, and types of collimation is discussed and the need for measurements with good beam geometry is addressed.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of a study on radiological impacts resulting from a zircon sand processing plant located in the North-Eastern part of Italy. Activity concentrations of radionuclides found in materials associated with this industrial process are presented as well as the results of the assessment of the annual effective doses to the workers and the members of the public. Gamma-spectrometric analyses were performed on "raw" sands, end-products, and soils sampled near the plant. Thermoluminescent dosimeters, electric pumps and electret ion chambers were used to measure the external irradiation, the indoor dust concentrations and the radon concentrations, respectively. The ground-level air concentration of radioactive particulate near the plant and the deposition of particulate matter were estimated by a Gaussian model (ISCLT3). Finally, the annual effective doses, calculated as provided for by Directive 96/29/Euratom, were estimated to be 1.7 mSv y(-1) for workers and 4.4 microSv y(-1) for members of the public.  相似文献

Renewable energy sources are mainly used in the electrical sector. Electricity is not a storable commodity. Hence, it is necessary to produce the requested quantity and distribute it through the system in such a way as to ensure that electricity supply and demand are always evenly balanced. This constraint is actually the main problem related to the penetration of new renewables (wind and photovoltaic power) in the context of complex energy systems. The paper analyzes some aspects in connection with the problem of new renewable energy penetration. The case of Italian scenario is considered as a meaningful reference due to the characteristic size and the complexity of the same. The various energy scenarios are evaluated with the aid of a multipurpose software taking into account the interconnections between the different energetic uses. In particular, it is shown how the penetration of new renewable energies is limited at an upper level by technological considerations and it will be more sustainable if an integration of the various energy use (thermal, mobility and electrical) field will be considered.  相似文献

A study of the enhancement of the collection efficiency of granular bed filters by electrical means is reported. By applying electric fields of a few kV/cm (DC or AC) across a bed of insulating granules, the efficiency for submicron charged aerosol is greatly increased, to the point where the efficiency minimum normally observed with such filters in the size range 0.1–1 μm is removed. The performance of such filters is explored as a function of granule size, applied field, face velocity and charge state of the entering aerosol with both a bench-scale flow system (to 40 ft3/min; 1.1 m3/min) and a wind tunnel (to 600 ft3/min; 17 m3/min). Some theoretical estimates are made to identify the most likely physical mechanism of electrical enhancement, and a number of potential application possibilities are discussed.  相似文献

137Cs extraction experiments were performed on 14 contaminated soils from NW Italy with different characteristics and mineralogical composition. Solutions of HCl (pH = 0.5) and buffered EDTA/ammonium acetate (Lakanen solution) were used to assess bioavailability. The results show that less than 2% of 137Cs is available for leaching and/or root uptake. Even within a complex natural system it was possible to identify the amount of swelling clays (vermiculite + smectite) as the main control on Cs mobility under acidic conditions. The ammonium ion appears to be effective in desorbing Cs and its role is briefly discussed in terms of crystal chemistry. The relevance of mineralogy in assessing soil vulnerability is underlined.  相似文献

Motor vehicle exhaust from prechamber injection diesel and gasoline powered passenger cars, sampled during US FTP 1973 test cycles and comprising both particulate matter and compounds condensable at ambient temperature, has been assayed for mutagenicity in the Salmonella/microsome test. Mutagenic components were to a large extent active in the absence of the mammalian microsomal preparation. The mutagenicity of both particulate matter and condensate from diesel exhaust and condensate from gasoline exhaust was decreased in the presence of the microsomal preparation whereas the mutagenicity of particulate matter from gasoline exhaust was enhanced by microsomal activation. A comparison between the investigated diesel and gasoline exhaust samples shows that the mutagenic effect in the Salmonella test of the diesel exhaust is more than ten times higher than that of the gasoline exhaust. Fractionation with respect to polarity indicates that the mutagenic components mainly are distributed in neutral aliphatic, aromatic, and oxygenated fractions. Tests for mutagenic monofunctional nitroarenes by an anaerobic assay indicate that such compounds at most are marginally present in the exhaust samples as compared with their presence in airborne particulate matter collected in an urban environment.  相似文献

Use of the Deutsch equation as an evaluation tool of electrostatic precipitators has resulted in the restriction design to a single plate spacing and has not enabled optimal use of the space charge arising from the presence of charged dust particles. Space charge is dependent on dust loading and plate spacing and also influences the electric field, hence the migration velocity and, therefore, collection efficiency. Thus a trade-off is indicated between plate spacing and collection efficiency as a function of dust loading. A first step examination of this trade-off indicates that varied spacing can be used in precipitators while maintaining high levels of efficiency and decreasing the required specific collection area by 15% to 25%.  相似文献

Control of particulate emissions from pulverized coal fired steam generators is becoming a significant factor in the siting and public acceptability of large coal burning power plants. The particulate emission limit established by the EPA for new coal fired boilers is 0.03 lb/106 Btu (13 ng/J) Possibly more restrictive than this is the state of New Mexico's particulate regulation which calls for no more than 0.05 lb/106 Btu (22 ng/J) total, and no more than 0.02 lb/106 Btu (9 ng/J) less than 2 microns in diameter. This paper will evaluate the effect of these stringent limitations on the technical feasibility and economics of dry particulate removal. Electrostatic precipitators have been the dominant particulate collection device in the electric utility industry for many years because of their low capital and operating cost. However, increasingly stringent emission standards have led to substantially higher costs for precipitators. These costs have increased sufficiently for fabric filtration to become a competitive alternative in achieving cost effective control. This paper will compare the economics and performance of fabric filtration with respect to conventional electrostatic precipitators. The paper will also address the preliminary evaluation procedures that should be followed in order to select the appropriate device for new or existing coal-fired boilers.  相似文献

A pulsed charging system is described that eliminates reverse ionization inelectrostatic precipitation. The motivating concept is a purely electrical approach. The fundamental characteristic of this method is the relaxation time of the precipitated particulate. Laboratory studies indicate that this powering concept could increase precipitator performance on high-resistivity particulate by more than two orders of magnitude. The performance of a conventional two-electrode type precipitator collecting high resistivity dust can be improved by pulse energization. Pulses of a suitable duration and repetition rate superimposed on the DC voltage permit higher peak-voltage without sparkover, improve particle charging and current distribution, and allow independent regulation of the precipitator voltage and current. A considerable quantity of energy, however, is required for each pulse to charge the precipitator to the pulse voltage level. For high pulse voltages only a minor part of this energy is necessary for the discharge current in the precipitator. For reasons of economy, the recovery of the energy stored in the precipitator capacitance during each pulse is therefore extremely important for pulse energization of large precipitators. An energy conserving pulse generator with pulse transformer, a pulse initiating switch element, and a feed-back diode for the energy recovery is described. The design and the instrumentation of a pilot precipitator specially developed for the comparison of different kinds of precipitator energization are outlined. The ability of the applied pulse energization system for controlling the corona discharge current independently of the precipitator voltage is demonstrated. Further, results from field tests showing the performance of the system under operating conditions are presented.  相似文献

Data on the daily activity and mobility of the common shrew (Sorex araneusL.) were obtained by the method of animal marking and recapturing in test plots. Sex- and age-related differences in the locomotor activity of animals were revealed, which depended on population size and the phase of the population cycle. Under natural conditions, animal activity in the daytime proved to decrease to a lesser extent than in captivity. The mobility (locomotor activity) of shrews was shown to depend on population density, reproductive rate, and weather.  相似文献

Two U.S. long-term air quality indices, the National Air Quality Index, NAQI, and the Extreme Value Index, EVI, are calculated for 27 cities in Canada, for the period 1973 to 1976. The results indicate that air quality varies considerably in space and time and that no clear trends can be discerned. Total suspended particulate matter, ozone, and sulphur dioxide are the air pollutants most commonly found to exceed the air quality standards in the residential, commercial, and industrial areas of the 27 cities studied.  相似文献

Measurements have been made of the radionuclide activities, particularly for plutonium isotopes, of the particulate and dissolved fractions of the tidal waters of the Esk Estuary. A wide range of Kd values indicates the lack of equilibrium conditions in this dynamically changing environment. The particulate activity contributes a major part of the activity of the suspension, with reworked estuarine sediment providing an important component of this. The estuarine circulation system results in the dispersion of particulate radionuclides into the low salinity upper reaches of the estuary, where plutonium isotopes are apparently mobilised, enriching the dissolved fraction activity.  相似文献
