Naturally-based poly(acrylic acid) grafted sodium alginate di-block hydrogels were investigated as high efficiency biosorbents for copper(II) ion. The grafted di-block hydrogel was characterized using FTIR, TGA and SEM techniques. Blank and immobilized algal biosorbent beads formed via 2.0% (w/w) calcium ions were also investigated. Batch adsorption experiments revealed optimal pH dependence of copper(II) ion biosorption at pH 5.5 with high efficient copper(II) ion uptake of 98.5 mg/g. The dynamics studies showed that the high efficiency copper(II) ion biosorption followed pseudo-second order kinetics with significant contribution of intraparticle diffusion mechanism. The equilibrium data fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) adsorption isotherm models. Thermodynamics parameters for copper(II) biosorption on blank and immobilized algal beads depicted the spontaneous nature of the biosorption process. Such high efficiency, feasibility, simplicity, and low cost properties adapt the di-block biosorbent to be the next generation promising biosorbents for water decontamination and to help in the recovery of the missing ecologic harmony.  相似文献

Ni(II) imprinted and non-imprinted bioadsorbent alginate beads were prepared, and utilized in the selective adsorption of Ni(II) ions. The optimum adsorption capacity were 6.00 mmol g?1 at 500 ppm initial metal ion concentration at pH 7 for Ni(II) imprinted alginate beads (IIP). The equilibrium data were applied to Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms, and it fitted both isotherm models. Thermodynamic parameters showed favorable and endothermic nature of adsorption. Ni(II) imprinted bead showed the strong ability to selective adsorption from Cu(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) ions. In conclusion, Ni(II) ion imprinted alginate beads could be used repeatedly without any significant reduce of adsorption capacity.  相似文献

This paper was focused on the biosorption of phosphate ions from aqueous solution onto the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) modified multi-component biosorbent composed of pine, oak, hornbeam and fir sawdust biomasses. A series of batch tests were conducted and the effects of solution pH, ion concentration, quantity of biosorbent and contact time on the bioremoval of phosphate ions were investigated. The biosorption data of kinetic and equilibrium were modeled using various mathematical equations. The phosphate removal increased with increased ion concentration and decreased with increased pH and biosorbent quantity values. The equilibrium state was reached within 120 min of exposure time. The process kinetics was best described by Elovich model while the isotherm data of biosorption best obeyed Freundlich equation. The obtained results revealed that the use of CTAB modified mix sawdust biosorbent presented interesting options for bioremediation of contaminated environments and waste recycling (as nutrient fertilizer and compost material).  相似文献

The potential for biosorption of Hg(II) ions from aqueous solutions using water hyacinth was studied. The effect of the retention period (0, 1, 3, 7, and 15 days), pH (3, 5, 7, and 9), initial concentration of Hg(II) ions (5, 10, and 15 mg/L), and organic loading rate (25, 50, and 75 percent) on biosorption were investigated. The physicochemical parameters were also analyzed at various concentrations of Hg(II) ions before and after treatment. The maximum biosorption rate was obtained at 15 days with the initial concentration of 10 mg/L at a pH of 7 and organic loading rate of 50 percent. The maximum biosorption capacity of both water hyacinth roots and shoots were 5.5 mg/L and 3.8 mg/L, respectively. The Hg(II) biosorption data were analyzed using the first‐ and second‐order kinetic models. Pseudo second‐order kinetics was considered the most appropriate model for predicting the biosorption capacity of both water hyacinth roots and shoots, and the modeled results were compared to the experimental results. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were used to evaluate the experimental data, and their constants were derived. Biosorption equilibrium data were best described by the Langmuir isotherm model followed by the Freundlich model. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The ability of activated carbon from cassava peels to remove heavy metals like Cu(II) and Pb(II) from hospital wastewater was investigated. The study showed that a pH of 8 was the best for the sorption of both metal ions onto the biosorbent. The time-dependent experiments for the metal ions showed that the binding of the metal ions to the biomass was rapid and occurred within 20–120 min. Sorption efficiency increased with a rise in adsorbent dosage. It increased from 12 to 73 % for Pb(II) and 26 to 79 % for Cu(II) when the adsorbent dose increased from 2 to 12 g. An increase in temperature led to an increase in sorption for both metal ions. The Langmuir model showed that the biomass has a higher sorption capacity for Cu(II) than Pb(II), with q m = 5.80 mg g?1 for Pb(II) and 8.00 mg g?1 for Cu(II). The Freundlich isotherm K f was 1.4 for Pb(II) and 1.8 for Cu(II), indicating a preferential sorption of Cu(II) onto the biosorbent. Adsorption capacity was found to decrease with an increase in particle sizes. Sorption occurred by physical mechanisms and was mainly controlled by intraparticle diffusion.  相似文献

In this study, dl-malic acid and hydrogen peroxide were used as leaching agents to remove metals from e-waste (printed-circuit boards) and itaconic acid-grafted poly(vinyl alcohol)-encapsulated wood pulp (IA-g-PVA-en-WP) to uptake metals from leachate with high proficiency [11.63 mg g?1; 93.03 % for Cd(II), 11.90 mg g?1; 95.18 % for Pb(II), and 12.14 mg g?1; 97.08 % for Ni(II)]. Metals were recovered from the loaded biosorbent by desorption studies. The standard analytical techniques, such as elemental analysis, Fourier-transform-infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, were used to characterize the recovering agent (biosorbent). At equilibrium, the metal uptake data were fitted to Langmuir and D–R isotherms (R 2 > 0.99) significantly, revealing, the homogeneous distribution of active sites on biosorbent’s backbone. The possible mechanism appeared to be ion exchanges of metal ions with H+ together with binding over functionalities (COO?). Dimensionless equilibrium parameter (R L) showed the favourability of metal uptake at lower concentration, while mean adsorption energy (E) certified the physical binding of metal on functionalities which was further confirmed by sticking probability and activation energy parameters. Reusability studies were also conducted to state the performance of biosorbent.  相似文献

The present work reported on the evaluation of the methylene blue dye biosorption property of Tremella fuciformis under different experimental conditions. Batch mode experiments were carried out using different experimental parameters such as initial pH, dye concentration, biosorbent amount, contact time and temperature. Four widely used kinetic models were used to elucidate the biosorption kinetics. And the kinetic analysis illustrated that the experimental data best followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Biosorption equilibrium was also investigated using four widely used isotherm models. The results indicated that the experimental equilibrium data fitted very well with Langmuir isotherm models. Thermodynamic analysis of biosorption processes was found to be feasibility, spontaneous and exothermic nature of MB biosorption. These results indicated that T. fuciformis would be a high effective and environmental friendly biosorbent for MB removal from aqueous solution.  相似文献

In this study, chitosan and bio-based activated carbon obtained from sugarcane bagasse biowaste were used for the synthesis of efficient sorbent for Cu(II) and Cd(II) ion via precipitation method. The prepared material was enriched with amino groups through grafting tetraethylenepentamine and tested for heavy metal remediation from water samples. The influence of pH was investigated showing optimum sorption at pH 6 for Cu(II) and Cd(II). Sorption tests, explained by means of the most common sorption models, evidenced that the best performances were reached pointing out the promising application of the prepared sorbent for water purification treatments: Uptake kinetics are relatively fast: the equilibrium was reached within 140 min; and the kinetic profiles were preferentially fitted by the pseudo-second order rate equation. Sorption isotherms are fitted by Langmuir equation. The sorbent showed high metal ion sorption capacity with negligible influence of ion strength. The maximum sorption capacities reached 3.44 and 2.38 mmol g??1 for Cu(II) and Cd(II), respectively at 298 K. Thermodynamic parameters were evaluated through variation of temperature. The sorption is unfavorable at elevated temperatures. Metal ions were successfully desorbed using 1 M HNO3 solution.  相似文献

Polyaniline (PANI) and polyaniline/Gördes-clinoptilolite (PANI/GC) composite materials were synthesized by the chemical oxidative polymerization technique and used in the adsorption of Acid Violet 90 metal-complex dye (AV 90). The samples were characterized by X-ray diffractions, nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscopes and Fourier transform infrared. The effect of initial pH (2–8), sorbent dosage (0.5–4.0 g/L) and initial dye concentrations (50400 mg/L) on adsorption onto PANI and PANI/GC were examined in a batch system. Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm models were used to investigate the adsorption mechanism of AV 90 on PANI and PANI/GC. Langmuir isotherm model for PANI/GC and Freundlich isotherm model for PANI were fitted well with the experimental data. The highest dye uptake capacities were obtained with Langmuir isotherm model as 153.85 mg/g and 72.46 mg/g for PANI and PANI/GC, respectively. In order to determine the adsorption kinetics, pseudo first-order and second-order kinetic models were studied. As a result, the adsorption of AV 90 dye on PANI and PANI/GC was better identified with Pseudo second-order kinetic model than the first one.  相似文献

The potential use of dried activated sludge and fly ash as a substitute for granular activated carbon for removing mono-chlorinated phenols (o-chlorophenol and p-chlorophenol) was examined. The pollutant binding capacity of the adsorbent/biosorbent was shown to be a function of substituted group, initial pH and initial mono-chlorinated phenol concentration. The working sorption pH value was determined as 1.0 and the equilibrium uptake increased with increasing initial mono-chlorinated phenol concentration up to 500 mg dm(-3) for all the mono-chlorinated phenol-sorbent systems. The suitability of the Freundlich, Langmuir and Redlich-Peterson adsorption models to the equilibrium data were investigated for each mono-chlorinated phenol-sorbent system. The results showed that the equilibrium data for all the mono-chlorinated phenol-sorbent systems fitted the Redlich-Peterson model best within the concentration range studied.  相似文献

The enzyme assisted extraction conditions of polysaccharide from Cordyceps militaris mycelia were firstly investigated by kinetics analysis and the optimal operating was found to be: extraction temperature 40 °C; solid-solvent ratio 1:20; extraction pH 4.0; cellulase concentration 2.0%. The polysaccharide extraction yield was 5.99% under these optimized conditions. Furthermore, a fundamental investigation of the biosorption of Pb2+ from aqueous solution by the C. militaris polysaccharide was performed under batch conditions. The suitable pH (5.0), polysaccharide concentration (0.20 g L?1), initial Pb2+ concentration (300 mg L?1) and contact time (40 min) were outlined to enhance Pb2+ biosorption from aqueous medium. The Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo first order kinetic model fitted well to the data of Pb2+ biosorption, suggesting the biosorption of Pb2+ onto C. militaris polysaccharide was monolayer biosorption and physical adsorption might be the rate-limiting step that controlled the adsorption process. FTIR analysis showed that the main functional groups of C. militaris polysaccharide involved in adsorption process were carbonyl, carboxyl, and hydroxyl groups.  相似文献

In these studies, removal of Fe(III) ions by biosorption processes from aqueous solutions was carried out using paprika (Capsicum annuum L.) pomace generated during processing in the food industry. The biosorbent material was characterized using several analytical methods, including particle size distribution, XRD, SEM–EDS, electrokinetic zeta potential, surface area analysis (BET, BJH), thermogravimetry, morphology (SEM), spectrophotometry FT-IR. Several factors, such as biosorbent dosage, initial concentration, contact time and initial pH were analyzed to show an effect on the bioremoval process, efficiency and adsorption capacity. As a result, the maximum adsorption efficiency and capacity were determined to be 99.1% and 7.92 mg/g, respectively. Based on the kinetics analysis, the bioremoval process is better described by the Langmuir isotherm model and the pseudo-second order equation model. In conclusion, the achieved research results suggest that paprika biomass can be an effective material for efficiently removing iron(III) from wastewater and improving water quality. These studies on the recovery of iron metal from the environment fit in the latest trends in the concept of the global circular economy.

Removal of Cr6 + and Ni2+ from aqueous solution using bagasse and fly ash   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9
Raw bagasse and fly ash, the waste generated in sugar mills and boilers respectively have been used as low-cost potential adsorbents. Raw bagasse was pretreated with 0.1N NaOH followed by 0.1N CH3COOH before its application. These low-cost adsorbents were used for the removal of chromium and nickel from an aqueous solution. The kinetics of adsorption and extent of adsorption at equilibrium are dependent on the physical and chemical characteristics of the adsorbent, adsorbate and experimental system. The effect of hydrogen ion concentration, contact time, sorbent dose, initial concentrations of adsorbate and adsorbent and particle size on the uptake of chromium and nickel were studied in batch experiments. The Sorption data has been correlated with Langmuir, Freundlich and Bhattacharya and Venkobachar adsorption models. The efficiencies of adsorbent materials for the removal of Cr(VI) and Ni(II) were found to be between 56.2 and 96.2% and 83.6 and 100%, respectively. These results were obtained at the optimized conditions of pH, contact time, sorbent dose, sorbate concentration of 100 mg/l and with the variation of adsorbent particles size between 0.075 and 4.75 mm. The order of selectivity is powdered activated carbon > bagasse > fly ash for Cr(VI) removal and powdered activated carbon > fly ash > bagasse for Ni(II) removal.  相似文献

In this research, a novel thermosensitive nanosphere polymer (TNP) was synthesized by copolymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide with 3-allyloxy-1,2-propanediol for the removal of diazinon from water. The characterization of the synthesized adsorbent has been performed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, scanning electron microscopy and elemental analysis. Batch adsorption method was performed to investigate the influences of various parameters like pH, temperature and contact time on the adsorption of diazinon. The equilibrium adsorption data of diazinon by TNP was studied by Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Redlich–Peterson model. According to equilibrium adsorption results, the Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin constants were evaluated to be 0.912 (L/mg), 7.916 (mg/g) (L/mg)1/n and 2.494 respectively at pH 7 and room temperature. Based on Redlich–Peterson model analysis, the equilibrium data for the adsorption of diazinon was conformed well to the Langmuir isotherm model. This method was successfully applied for removal of diazinon from environmental samples. Moreover, in reusing of TNP, the sorption capacity was maintained without any significant change after 10 cycles of sorption–desorption process.  相似文献

Batch experiments were conducted to study the biosorption of Malachite Green (MG) onto polylactide (PLA)/spent brewery grains (SBGs) films. Films were prepared by solvent-casting method using dichloromethane. Effects of contact time, pH, salt concentration, and optimal experimental condition was evaluated. At pH 6.89 and low salt concentration, Malachite Green was removed effectively. The isotherm data fitted the Freundlich model with 0.969 R2 value and 0.738 slope implying chemisorptions process. The biosorption process followed pseudo-second order kinetics with calculated adsorption capacity at equilibrium (qe) of 0.572?mg/g at 23?°C. The investigation showed that PLA/SBGs films are effective in dye removal from textile, paper and leather industries effluents.  相似文献

Sunflower residue, an agricultural waste material for the removal of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) from aqueous solutions were investigated using a batch method. Adsorbent was prepared by washing sunflower residue with deionized water until the effluent was colorless. Batch mode experiments were carried out as a function of solution pH, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration and contact time. The results indicated that the adsorbent showed good sorption potential and maximum metal removal was observed at pH 5. Within 150 min of operation about 97 and 87 % of Pb and Cd ions were removed from the solutions, respectively. Lead and Cd sorption curves were well fitted to the modified two-site Langmuir model. The adsorption capacities for Pb and Cd at optimum conditions were 182 and 70 mg g?1, respectively. The kinetics of Pb and Cd adsorption from aqueous solutions were analyzed by fitting the experimental data to a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the rate constant was found to be 8.42 × 10?2 and 8.95 × 10?2 g mg?1 min?1 for Cd and Pb, respectively. The results revealed that sunflower can adsorb considerable amount of Pb and Cd ions and thus could be an economical method for the removal of Pb and Cd from aqueous systems.  相似文献

This research article describes, an eco-friendly activated carbon prepared from the Gracilaria corticata seaweeds which was employed for the preparation of biodegradable polymeric beads for the efficient removal of crystal violet dye in an aqueous solution. The presence of chemical functional groups in the adsorbent material was detected using FTIR spectroscopy. The morphology and physical phases of the adsorbent materials were analyzed using SEM and XRD studies respectively. Batch mode dye adsorption behavior of the activated carbon/Zn/alginate polymeric beads was investigated as a function of dosage, solution pH, contact time, initial dye concentration and temperature. Maximum dye removal was observed at a pH of 5.0, 1 g of adsorbent dosage with 60 mg/L dye concentration, 50 min of contact time and at 30 °C. The equilibrium modeling studies were analyzed with Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms and the adsorption dynamics was predicted with Lagergren’s pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order equations and intra particle diffusion models. The process of dye removal followed a pseudo second-order kinetics rather than pseudo first order. The thermodynamic parameters like standard Gibbs free energy change (ΔG°), enthalpy change (ΔH°) and entropy change (ΔS°) were determined and the results imply that the adsorption process was spontaneous, endothermic and increases the randomness between the adsorbent and adsorbate. The results from the experimental and correlation data reveal that the Gracilaria corticata activated carbon/Zn/alginate polymeric beads have proved to be an excellent adsorbent material for the removal of CV dye.  相似文献

The selective modification of sodium montmorillonite (Na+-Mt) surface with polyionene followed by poly (succinimde-co-aspartate) has been considered. Na+-Mt was allowed to react with well characterized polyionene in two fold excess. The resulting polyionene/Mt (IC) was further modified with poly (succinimide-co-aspartate) through an ion exchange process. The obtained polyaspartate/Mt (IPS) composite was characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and BET surface analyzer. The adsorption efficiency of IPS composite was investigated for the removal of Pb(II) and Cd(II) from aqueous solution under different experimental conditions including initial metal ions concentration, temperature and single and binary mixture systems of metal ions. The experimental data were analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich models. Langmuir model reveals that the monolayer adsorption capacity of IPS was 92.59 and 67.57 mg/g for Pb(II) and Cd(II), respectively. The modification of parent Na+-Mt enhanced their adsorption capacity by about 87.91 and 29.84% for Pb(II) and Cd(II), respectively, due to inclusion of extra active sites of polyaspartate. The mean sorption energy, E calculated from Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm were 2.75 and 1.98 kJ/mol for the adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II), respectively, indicating physical adsorption process. Also, The thermodynamic parameters were calculated and indicated that the adsorption was spontaneous and exothermic process. The mechanism of cation exchange and complexation of metal ions was suggested. IPS composite has a considerable potential for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solution and wastewater stream.  相似文献

The ability of low-cost activated carbon prepared from Ceiba pentandra hulls, an agricultural waste material, for the removal of lead and zinc from aqueous solutions has been investigated. In the batch tests experimental parameters were studied, including solution pH, contact time, adsorbent dose and initial metal ions concentration. The adsorbent exhibited good sorption potential at pH 6.0. Maximum removal of lead (99.5%) and of zinc (99.1%) with 10 g/l of sorbent was observed at 50 mg/L sorbate concentration. Removals of about 60-70% occurred in 10 min, and equilibrium was attained at around 50 min for both metals. The functional groups (CO, SO,-OH) present on the carbon surface were responsible for the adsorption of metal ions. The adsorption parameters were analysed using both the Freundlich and Langmuir models. The data are better fitted by the Freundlich isotherm as compared to Langmuir model, and the adsorption capacities for lead and zinc were 25.5 and 24.1 mg/g, respectively. Kinetics of adsorption obeyed a second order rate equation and the rate constant was found to be 2.71 x 10(-2) and 2.08 x 10(-2) g/mg/min for lead and zinc, respectively. The desorption studies were carried out using dilute HCl, and the effect of HCl concentration on desorption was studied. Maximum desorptions of 85% for lead and 78% for zinc were attained with 0.15 M HCl.  相似文献
