The performance characteristics of commercially available sulfur dioxide monitors were determined. Con-ductimetric, colorimetric, and coulometric analyzers were investigated. During this phase of the study, characteristics that were more closely related to field operation were studied. These included comparability of data among the instruments over a period of time, weekly calibration drift, maintenance requirements (including operating cost), unattended operation performance, and the effect of rotameter changes on calibration. The methodology and apparatus used to determine each operational parameter are described. The results of this study should be useful in the selection of instruments for monitoring sulfur dioxide.  相似文献

Particulate and hydrocarbon content of gases in a regenerative gas turbine was analyzed at several points. Particle samples were measured with a condensation nuclei counter, a light scattering single particle counter and an impactor. Hydrocarbon analyses were made using gas chromatography. The effects of operation with JP-4 and No. 2 fuel oil were noted. It was concluded that a regenerative gas turbine will not add appreciably to the burden of air pollution. In fact, particulate contamination levels in the exhaust less than those in the inlet air indicates that the high rotation rate may result in some air cleaning. Low hyd rocarbon contents in the exhaust gas were ascribed to efficient combustion under the operating conditions used in this work. In general, it was concluded that hydrocarbon levels significantly lower than those seen from gasoline or diesel engines could be expected from a well maintained and operated regenerative gas turbine.  相似文献

The performance characteristics of commercially available continuous sulfur dioxide monitors were determined. Conductimetric, colorimetric, and coulometric analyzers were investigated. The study was conducted to develop information on such instrument characteristics as stability, sensitivity, response time, collection efficiency, and response to interfering substances. The methodology and apparatus used to determine each operational parameter are described. The instrument performance data developed in this study should be useful to those involved in selection of instrumental methods for monitoring atmospheric sulfur dioxide.  相似文献

Abstract

In this study, a two-bed electrically heated regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) was used to test the thermal destruction and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) formation characteristics in burning airstreams that contain either N, N-dimethylformamide or dimethylformamide (DMF) mixed with methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). The RTO contained two 0.152 m × 0.14 m × 1 m (L × W times] H) beds, both packed with gravel particles with an average diameter of approximately 0.0111 m and a height of up to 1 m with a void fraction of 0.42 in the packed section. The thermal recovery efficiency (TRE) and the gas pressure drop over the beds were also studied. Experimental results reveal that, with a valve shifting time (t s) of 1.5 min, a superficial gas velocity (U g) of 0.39 m/sec (evaluated at an influent air temperature of around 30 °C) and preset maximum destruction temperatures (T S) of 750–950 °C, no NOx was present in the effluent gas from the RTO when it was loaded with DMF-free air. When only DMF was present in the influent air, the average destruction efficiencies exceeded 96%, and increased with the influent DMF concentration from 300 to 750 mg/N?m3. The “NOx-N formation/DMF-N destruction” mass ratios were in the range 0.76–1.05, and decreased as the influent DMF concentration increased within the experimental range. When both DMF and MEK were present in the influent gas, the NOx formation ratio was almost the same and the DMF destruction efficiency increased with the influent MEK/DMF ratio from 150/300 to 4500/300 (mg/mg) and in the preset temperature range. The NOx formation ratios were in the range 0.75–0.96. The TRE decreased as U g increased but was invariant with T s. The Ergun equation was found to suffice in the estimation of the pressure drop when the gas flowed over the packing beds.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The size range of airborne particles that is closely related to specific deposition regions in the human respiratory tract and excess lung burden of these deposited particles is associated with disease. Size-selective sampling, therefore, needs to be performed to assess the related health risks. Performance criteria applied to these samplers must be well characterized in order to provide accurate and reliable results. The PM10 samplers that have been used in place of the total suspended particulate samplers for the collection of ambient air particles are more relevant to potential inhalation hazards. In order to be certified, a PM10 sampler must meet reliable performance specifications, primarily the aerosol penetration test with liquid and solid particles in a wind tunnel (wind speeds of 2, 8, and 24 km/hr). This testing is intended to assure reasonable accuracy in aerosol measurements. However, the sampler performance under calm air conditions has not been well studied.

In the present study, the sampling heads of three devices—the Harvard impactor, the Personal Environmental Monitor (PEM), and the Sierra Andersen model 241 dichotomous sampler PM10 inlet head—were tested for aerosol separation efficiency. With the consideration of bias and imprecision of the measurements, five specimens of each type of sampler were chosen for performance testing, repeating the tests 5 times for each specimen. An ultrasonic atomizing nozzle was used to nebulize potassium sodium tartrate tetrahydrate and dioctyl phthalate particles as the solid and liquid challenge aerosols, respectively. The aerosol number concentrations and size distributions upstream and downstream of the samplers were measured by using an aerosizer calibrated against a settling velocity chamber. The results showed that among the samplers tested, the dichotomous sampler PM10 inlet head had the best fit to the PM10 convention, while the other two samplers not only appeared to have a steeper separation-curve slope but also had significant particle bounce when challenged with solid particles. Analysis of variance also confirmed the superiority of the dichotomous samplers. Surface-coating with oil or grease greatly reduced the problem of particle bounce.  相似文献

硝基苯(NB)生产废水中含有大量NB及其衍生物,对生物具有毒性,属难生物降解物质.采用ClO2三相催化氧化工艺对NB废水进行处理.结果表明,每升废水投加280、350 mg ClO2,废水在活性炭加载含铜复合金属氧化物的催化剂床层停留56min,NB和色度的去除率均达到95%以上,COD去除率达到90%以上.吨废水处理成本约为10.5元.  相似文献

This paper presents an evaluation of four gaussian (GM, HIWAY, AIRPOL-4, CALINE-2), and three numerical (DANARD, MROAD 2, ROADS) models with the tracer gas data collected in the General Motors experiment. Various statistical techniques are employed to quantify the predictive capability of each of the above models. In general, the three numerical models performed rather poorly compared to the gaussian models. For this data set, the model with the best performance in accurately predicting the measured concentrations was the GM model followed in order by AIRPOL-4, HIWAY, CALINE-2, DANARD, MR0AD2, and ROADS. Although the GM model provides by far a better simulation than any of the models tested here, it is skewed toward underprediction. As a screening tool for regulatory purposes, however, HIWAY model would be useful since this model has the highest percentage in the category of overprediction if the concentration data in the range of 50th percentile through 100th percentile are included in the analysis. The present version of the HIWAY model for stable and parallel wind-road conditions warrants modifications to improve its predictive capability. Current studies indicate that the modified HIWAY model can be used with greater confidence by the regulatory agencies.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Pesticide contamination results from manufacturing, improper storage, handling, or disposal of pesticides, and from agricultural processes. Since most pesticides are mixtures of different compounds, selecting a remedy for pesticide-contaminated soils can be a complicated process. The various available treatment options for remediation fall into three broad categories: containment-immobilization, separation-concentration, and destruction. This paper categorizes pesticides into waste groups based on available treatment options and provides a review of separation treatment options that have been demonstrated to—or show potential to— treat pesticide-contaminated soil. Technologies include radio frequency heating, soil washing, thermal desorp-tion, and solvent extraction.  相似文献

Abstract

The emission of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) is attracting increasing concern both from the public and by government agencies. Among the many available control technologies for the treatment of VOC containing waste streams, incineration offers an ultimate disposal strategy rather than a means for collecting or concentrating the offending compounds. This paper describes the major, commercially available thermal and catalytic incinerator systems that are designed to treat dilute, VOC containing gas streams. Qualitative guidelines are presented whereby the technologies can be compared. In addition, an example waste stream is used to illustrate a simplified procedure for calculating the material and energy balances for each of the incinerators. The resulting parameters will be used in a companion paper to estimate the capital and operating costs associated with each design. In this manner, a first estimate can be obtained of the costs of cleaning a waste stream containing low levels of VOCs.  相似文献

The results of fractional and overall mass efficiency tests of a steam-ejector scrubber are presented. The tests were performed on one of seven modules of a full scale scrubber used for controlling particulate emissions from an open hearth furnace. Total flue gas particulate mass concentrations were determined at the inlet and outlet of the scrubber by conventional (Method 5) techniques. Inlet and outlet particulate concentrations as functions of diameter were determined on a mass basis using cascade impactors for sizes from about 0.3 μm to 5 μm, and on a number basis for diameters smaller than about 1 μm using optical and diffusional methods. Measurements were made under several scrubber operating conditions. The measured efficiencies based on total particulate mass concentrations with the scrubber operating under near optimum conditions ranged from 99.84 to 99.9%. The measured fractional efficiencies ranged from a maximum of 99.99% for particles having diameters of 1 μm to values of 97 and 99.9% for particles having diameters of 0.1, and 5 μm, respectively.  相似文献

An effective method for removing dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) from wastewater, based on the mild selective catalytic sulfoxidation with H(2)O(2), is proposed in this study. The catalysts are W-containing layered double hydroxides (LDH), and they were obtained by ionic exchange of the nitrate anions from MAl-LDH precursors (M=Mg(2+) or Zn(2+)) with both WO(4)(2-) and W(7)O(24)(6-) species. Results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), N(2) adsorption, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), diffuse reflectance ultraviolet spectroscopy (DRUV) and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the formation of the W-oxospecies inside the interlayer space and the modification of the textural properties upon the exchange process. All catalysts showed very good activity and stability in the DMSO conversion into dimethylsulfone with dilute H(2)O(2) aqueous solution, at low temperatures (20-50 degrees C). The efficiency of the H(2)O(2) was higher than 95% and the behaviour of the water as solvent was very close to that of the organic solvents (ethanol, acetonitrile, 1,4-dioxane).  相似文献

考察了孔径108μm左右的不锈钢丝网动态膜组件处理城市生活污水的特性,并研究了出水水头和曝气强度对动态膜泥饼层形成的影响.结果表明,稳定运行情况下出水平均浊度1.2NTU,COD平均去除率90%,NH<,3>-N平均去除率97%,与传统膜-生物反应器处理效果接近.同时发现,在20、40mm的出水水头下,动态膜运行初期膜通量衰减规律均符合泥饼阻力模型.  相似文献

A pilot apparatus of a regenerative catalytic oxidizer (RCO) equipped with two electrical heaters and two 20-cm i.d. x 200-cm height regenerative beds was used to treat methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and toluene, respectively, in an airstream. The regenerative beds were packed with gravel (approximate particle size 1.25 cm, specific area 205 m2/m3, and specific heat capacity 840 J/kg degree C) as a solid regenerative material and K-type thermal couples for measuring solid and gas temperatures, respectively. The catalyst bed temperature was kept around 400 degrees C and the gas superficial velocity was operated at 0.234 m/sec. This investigation measured and analyzed distributions of solid and gas temperatures with operating time and variations of volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations in the regenerative beds. The overall VOC removal efficiency exceeded 98% for MEK and 95% for toluene. Degradation of VOCs will exist for MEK on the surface of solid material (gravel) in the temperature range of 330-400 degrees C, but toluene does not exhibit this phenomenon.  相似文献

A novel photocatalytic reactor for wastewater treatment was designed and constructed. The main part of the reactor was an aluminum tube in which 12 stainless steel circular baffles and four quartz tube were placed inside of the reactor like shell and tube heat exchangers. Four UV–C lamps were housed within the space of the quartz tubes. Surface of the baffles was coated with TiO2. A simple method was employed for TiO2 immobilization, while the characterization of the supported photocatalyst was based on the results obtained through performing some common analytical methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and BET. Phenol was selected as a model pollutant. A solution of a known initial concentration (20, 60, and 100 ppmv) was introduced to the reactor. The reactor also has a recycle flow to make turbulent flow inside of the reactor. The selected recycle flow rate was 7?×?10?5 m3.s?1, while the flow rate of feed was 2.53?×?10?7, 7.56?×?10?7, and 1.26?×?10?6 m3.s?1, respectively. To evaluate performance of the reactor, response surface methodology was employed. A four-factor three-level Box–Behnken design was developed to evaluate the reactor performance for degradation of phenol. Effects of phenol inlet concentration (20–100 ppmv), pH (3–9), liquid flow rate (2.53?×?10?7?1.26?×?10?6 m3.s?1), and TiO2 loading (8.8–17.6 g.m?2) were analyzed with this method. The adjusted R 2 value (0.9936) was in close agreement with that of corresponding R 2 value (0.9961). The maximum predicted degradation of phenol was 75.50 % at the optimum processing conditions (initial phenol concentration of 20 ppmv, pH?~?6.41, and flow rate of 2.53?×?10?7 m3.s?1 and catalyst loading of 17.6 g.m?2). Experimental degradation of phenol determined at the optimum conditions was 73.7 %. XRD patterns and SEM images at the optimum conditions revealed that crystal size is approximately 25 nm and TiO2 nanoparticles with visible agglomerates distribute densely and uniformly over the surface of stainless steel substrate. BET specific surface area of immobilized TiO2 was 47.2 and 45.8 m2 g?1 before and after the experiments, respectively. 采用钛铁矿为主要原料,以硫酸溶出部分铁和钛,并调节Ti/Fe比、碱化度制备高效的新型含钛聚合硫酸铁混凝剂(T-PSF),将其用于分散兰和活性黄2种模拟印染废水的脱色处理并研究其混凝去除机理。实验结果表明,在Ti/Fe为1∶6和碱化度为2.0时,制备出的T-PSF混凝效果最好。T-PSF对分散兰的去除率为94.3%,比FeCl3的去除率提高53.8%;对活性黄的去除率为34.0%,比FeCl3提高12.7%。T-PSF处理分散兰和活性黄的最佳投加量均为0.3 mmol·L-1,最佳水样初始pH分别为6和8。絮体粒径及结构分析结果表明,T-PSF处理分散兰过程中形成的絮体粒径较FeCl3大,处理活性黄过程中所形成的絮体粒径较FeCl3小,但絮体结构均比FeCl3更密实。结合T-PSF的表征、Zeta电位及絮体特性分析表明,在分散染料去除过程中,T-PSF产生的多羟基钛铁聚合物的电中和及吸附架桥起主要作用;对于活性染料的去除,主要机制为T-PSF水解产生的带正电的多羟基钛铁聚合物的吸附络合作用。  相似文献

Introduction

This study presents the performance evaluation of a tailor-made passive sampler developed for the monitoring of tropospheric ozone.

Methods

The performance of the passive sampler was tested in the field conditions in terms of accuracy, precision, blank values, detection limit, effects of some parameters such as sampling site characteristics and sampling period on the field blanks, self-consistency, experimental and theoretical uptake rates, shelf life and comparison with commercial passive samplers.

Results

There was an agreement (R 2?=?0.84) between the responses of passive sampler and the continuous automatic analyser. The accuracy of the sampler, expressed as percent relative error, was obtained lower than 15%. Method precision in terms of coefficient of variance for three simultaneously applied passive samplers was 12%. Sampler detection limit was 2.42???g?m?3 for an exposure period of 1?week, and the sampler can be stored safely for a period of up to 8?weeks before exposure. Satisfactory self-consistency results showed that extended periods gave the same integrated response as a series of short-term samplers run side by side. The uptake rate of ozone was found to be 10.21?mL?min?1 in a very good agreement with the theoretical uptake rate (10.32?mL?min?1). The results of the comparison study conducted against a commercially available diffusion tube (Gradko diffusion tube) showed a good linear relationship (R 2?=?0.93) between two passive samplers.

Conclusions

The sampler seems suitable to be used in large-scale measurements of ozone where no data are available or the number of existing automated monitors is not sufficient.  相似文献

采用热解法对含油污泥进行处理.经过筛选,选取活性白土作为催化剂,分别研究反应时间、反应温度、加热速率和氮气吹扫量对热解处理效果的影响.4个影响因素对液相收率的影响顺序为:氮气吹扫量>反应温度>反应时间>加热速率;对反应转化率的影响顺序为:反应温度>反应时间>氮气吹扫量>加热速率.实验理想的反应参数为:反应时间60min,反应温度490℃,加热速率4℃/min,氮气吹扫量90 mL/min.  相似文献
