The OEIS complex: two case reports that illustrate the spectrum of abnormalities and a review of the literature

We present two cases of OEIS (omphalocele, exstrophy, imperforate anus, spinal defects) complex -MIM 258040 and a review of the literature. Case 1 was a 14-year-old girl who presented at 30 weeks' gestation. An ultrasound examination showed an omphalocele and spina bifida; the bladder was not visualised. She went into spontaneous labour two weeks later and the baby died shortly after birth. A full post-mortem examination was refused, but the mother did agree to an external examination, skin biopsy for fibroblast culture, X rays and MR imaging. The MR imaging showed a pelvic kidney, a large omphalocele containing the other kidney, liver, bowel and a fluid filled structure thought to represent an exstrophy of the bladder (EB). Case 2 was a 30-year-old woman who had an ultrasound examination at 20 weeks' gestation; this showed an omphalocele, but the bladder was not visualised. The pregnancy was subsequently terminated and a post-mortem examination showed a low set umbilical cord associated with a small omphalocele; there was an imperforate anus; a blind ending rectum terminated in the omphalocele. Prenatal diagnosis of hydrocephalus-stenosis of the aqueduct of Sylvius by ultrasound in the first trimester of pregnancy. Report of two cases

Hydrocephalus-stenosis of the acqueduct of Sylvius sequence (HSAS) is characterized by hydrocephalus, macrocephaly, adducted thumbs, spasticity, agenesis of the corpus callosum and mental retardation. X-linked hydrocephalus is known to be due to mutations in the gene coding for the neural cell adhesion molecule L1 (L1-CAM) and diagnosis is made by identification of a mutation in the L1-CAM gene. Prenatal diagnosis of HSAS is usually suggested on ultrasound examination showing hydrocephalus in a male fetus associated with bilateral adducted thumbs. Mutation screening of the L1-CAM gene is indicated when neuropathological examination shows hypoplasia of the corticospinal tract associated with aqueductal stenosis. We report here two cases of HSAS diagnosed within the same family by ultrasound examination in the first trimester of pregnancy when bilateral adducted thumbs were the only early ultrasound marker. The prenatal diagnosis of joubert's syndrome of familial agenesis of the cerebellar vermis

The prenatal diagnosis by ultrasound examination of Joubert's syndrome of familial agenesis of the cerebellar vermis is described allowing termination of pregnancy ai 26 weeks gestation. The diagnosis was made by a comparison of the prenatal ultrasound examination with computerized axial tomography obtained from the siblings with the same condition.

建立了排污总量控制区内出境断面考核体系.提出根据源与水质影响关系和年度污染物削减量制定控制断面年度目标值的计算公式及上游控制断面超标对下游断面影响的剔除方法.该体系已在河南省市、地政府环境责任目标考核中使用,并取得良好效果.

The development and pathogenicity of Entomophthora muscae from infected onion maggot adults originally collected from Keswick Marsh, Ontario, are described. Morphological examination of the fungal growth, fruiting bodies and development of the disease is reported.

环境违法行为举报原因、特点及解决途径初探

徐州市是一座资源型城市,环境违法行为举报的上升趋势和构成特点有一定的代表性。据统计,2003年-2007年,环境违法行为举报件数平均每年上升20％,其中噪声和废气污染举报分别占40％和35％,这两类举报80％集中于市区。废水污染举报占15％,85％集中于农村地区。在分析了上升、构成特点原因的基础上,提出通过加大环保部门的执法力度、建立监督机制和环境绩效考核体系、强化个案查处等手段,逐步完善环境违法行为举报制度。     

Normal karyotype in cultured chorionic villus cells,but mosaicism in amniotic and fetal cells

A case with a normal male karyotype in cultured chorionic villus cells, but 46,XY/45,X/ 46,X,i(Yq) mosaicism in amniotic and fetal tissue is reported. The fetus was a phenotypic male. Pathological examination revealed discrete features, which might indicate a syndrome, and histological examination showed large, bright cells in the tubules of the testes. Possible explanations for discordance between the karyotype of embryonic and extraembryonic tissue are discussed.
