Benzene, toluene, sulphur dioxide, ozone and nitrogen dioxide were measured at a mean level of 13.5 m above ground in a narrow, four-lane street canyon (height 30 m, width 20 m) in Thessaloniki, Greece during the period January–July 1997 by means of a commercial differential optical absorption spectrometer (OPSIS DOAS). Primary pollutant levels were found to be 2.5–4.4 times higher during the cold part of the year than during the warm part of the year, the winter/summer ratio increasing with the reaction rate constant with OH for each of the measured species. Ozone, on the other hand, exhibited a winter/summer ratio of 0.36. NO2 originates from both primary and secondary sources; its winter/summer concentration ratio of 1.4 lies, therefore, between those of primary pollutants and ozone. Pollution levels were influenced considerably by wind speed, while for the street canyon under study wind direction did not influence pollutant levels considerably. While primary pollution was found to decrease with increasing wind speed, ozone increased. Benzene mean levels during the study period were around 6 ppb and hence much higher than the EU annual limit value of 5 μg m−3 (1.44 ppb at STP). Toluene mean levels were around 14 ppb and hence also several times above the WHO recommendation of 2 ppb for 24 h. The apportionment of traffic emissions in four time zones used in most inventories in urban airshed models was tested using benzene and toluene measurements at low (<1 m s−1) wind speeds. The agreement between model emissions and calculated emissions apportionment into the four time zones was good, except for Zone D (23:00–1:59), where model inventory emissions were somewhat too low.  相似文献

Atmospheric levels of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde as well as their diurnal and seasonal variations were investigated from 1994 to 1997 in downtown Rome during sunny and wind calm days. Hourly concentrations of formaldehyde ranged from 8 to 28 ppbV in summer and 7 to 17 ppbv in winter; acetaldehyde concentrations varied correspondingly within the 3–18 and 2–7 ppbv intervals. Percentages of both aldehydes photochemically produced were estimated through a simple relationship based upon the comparison of individual ratios of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde to toluene in ambient air and automobile emission. Photochemical production was found to weigh upon atmospheric levels for 80–90% in summer days. It dropped below 35% in the winter period, when direct emission from traffic largely predominated. Photochemical summer source was more efficient for acetaldehyde than for formaldehyde, especially in the early morning. The importance of formaldehyde as the major source of hydroxyl radicals in Rome was also assessed.  相似文献

Regular measurements of total mass concentration and mass-size distribution of near-surface aerosols, made using a ten-channel Quartz Crystal Microbalance (qcm) Impactor for the period October 1998–December 1999 at the tropical coastal station Trivandrum (8.5°N, 77°E), are used to study the response of aerosol characteristics to regional mesoscale and synoptic processes. Results reveal that aerosol mass concentrations are generally higher under land breeze conditions. The sea breeze generally has a cleansing effect, depleting the aerosol loading. The continental air (LB regime) is richer in accumulation mode (submicron) aerosols than the marine air. On a synoptic scale, aerosol mass concentration in the submicron mode decreased from an average high value of ∼86 μg m−3 during the dry months (January–March) to ∼11 μg m−3 during the monsoon season (June–September). On the contrary mass concentration in the supermicron mode increased from a low value of ∼15 μg m−3 during the dry months to reach a comparatively high value of ∼35 μg m−3 during April, May. Correspondingly, the effective radius (Reff) increased from a low value of 0.15–0.17 μm to ∼0.3 μm indicating a seasonal change in the size distribution. The mass-size distribution shows mainly three modes, a fine mode (∼0.1 μm); a large mode (∼0.5 μm) and a coarse mode (∼3 μm). The fine mode dominates in winter. In summer the large mode becomes more conspicuous and the coarse mode builds up. The fine mode is highly reduced in monsoon and the large and coarse modes continue to remain high (replenished) so that their relative dominance increases. The size distribution tends to revert to the winter pattern in the post-monsoon season. Accumulation (submicron) aerosols account for ∼98% of the total surface area and ∼70% of the total volume of aerosols during winter. During monsoon, even though they still account for ∼90% of the area, their contribution to the volume is reduced to ∼50%; the coarse aerosols account for the rest.  相似文献

A DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, was deployed in Tampa, FL to measure aerosols and primary and secondary trace gases in support of the Bay Regional Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment (BRACE). The Twin Otter repeatedly overflew the surface chemistry monitoring super site near Sydney, FL to assess the comparability of surface and airborne datasets and the spatial representativeness of the surface measurements. Prior to comparing the chemical datasets, we evaluated the comparability of the standards used to calibrate surface and airborne detectors, as well as the uniformity of wind fields aloft and at the surface. Under easterly flow, when the dearth of significant upwind emission sources promoted chemical homogeneity at Sydney, trace gas concentrations at the surface and aloft were generally well correlated; R2 ranged from 0.4396 for H2O2 to 0.9738 for O3, and was typically better than 0.70 for NO, NO2, NOY, HNO3, HCHO, and SO2. Mean ratios of aircraft-to-surface concentrations during 10 overflights of Sydney were as follows: 1.002±0.265 (NO), 0.948±0.183 (NO2), 1.010±0.214 (NOY), 0.941±0.263 (HCHO), and 0.952±0.046 (O3). Poorer agreement and larger variability in measured ratios were noted for SO2 (1.764±0.559), HNO3 (1.291±0.391), and H2O2 (1.200±0.657). Under easterly flow, surface measurements at Sydney were representative of conditions over horizontal scales as large as 50 km and agreed well with airborne values throughout the depth of the turbulently mixed boundary layer at mid-day. Westerly flow advected the Tampa urban plume over the site; under these conditions, as well as during transitional periods associated with the development of the land–sea breeze, surface conditions were representative of smaller spatial scales. Finally, we estimate possible errors in future measurement-model comparisons likely to arise from fine scale (or subgrid;<2 km) variability of trace gas concentrations. Large subgrid variations in concentration fields were observed downwind of large emission point sources, and persisted across multiple model grid cells (distances>4 km) in coherent plumes. Variability at the edges of the well-mixed urban plume, and at the interface of the land–sea breeze circulation, was significantly smaller. This suggests that even a failure of modeled wind fields to resolve the sea breeze return can induce moderate, but not overwhelming, errors in simulated concentration fields and dependent chemical processes.  相似文献

The influence of traffic-induced pollutants (e.g. CO, NO, NO2 and O3) on the air quality of urban areas was investigated in the city of Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany. Twelve air hygiene profile measuring trips were made to analyse the trace gas distribution in the urban area with high spatial resolution and to compare the air hygiene situation of urban green areas with the overall situation of urban pollution. Seventeen measurements were made to determine the diurnal concentration courses within urban parks (summer conditions: 13 measurements, 530 30 min mean values, winter conditions: 4 measurements, 128 30 min mean values). The measurements were carried out during mainly calm wind and cloudless conditions between February 1995 and March 1996. It was possible to establish highly differentiated spatial concentration patterns within the urban area. These patterns were correlated with five general types of land use (motorway, main road, secondary road, residential area, green area) which were influenced to varying degrees by traffic emissions. Urban parks downwind from the main emission sources show the following typical temporal concentration courses: In summer rush-hour-dependent CO, NO and NO2 maxima only occurred in the morning. A high NO2/NO ratio was established during weather conditions with high global radiation intensities (K>800 W m−2), which may result in a high O3 formation potential. Some of the values measured found in one of the parks investigated (Gruga Park, Essen, area: 0.7 km2), which were as high as 275 μg m−3 O3 (30-min mean value) were significantly higher than the German air quality standard of 120 μg m−3 (30-min mean value, VDI Guideline 2310, 1996) which currently applies in Germany and about 20% above the maximum values measured on the same day by the network of the North Rhine–Westphalian State Environment Agency. In winter high CO and NO concentrations occur in the morning and during the afternoon rush-hour. The highest concentrations (CO=4.3 mg m−3, NO=368 μg m−3, 30-min mean values) coincide with the increase in the evening inversion. The maximum measured values for CO, NO and NO2 do not, however, exceed the German air quality standards in winter and summer.  相似文献

This study quantifies the contribution through energy consumption, to the heat island phenomena and discussed how reductions in energy consumption could mitigate impacts on the urban thermal environment. Very detailed maps of anthropogenic heat in Tokyo were drawn with data from energy statistics and a very detailed digital geographic land use data set including the number of stories of building at each grid point. Animated computer graphics of the annual and diurnal variability in Tokyo's anthropogenic heat were also prepared with the same data sources. These outputs characterize scenarios of anthropogenic heat emission and can be applied to a numerical simulation model of the local climate. The anthropogenic heat flux in central Tokyo exceeded 400 W m−2 in daytime, and the maximum value was 1590 W m−2 in winter. The hot water supply in offices and hotels contributed 51% of this 1590 W m−2. The anthropogenic heat flux from the household sector in the suburbs reached about 30 W m−2 at night. Numerical simulations of urban climate in Tokyo were performed by referring to these maps. A heat island appeared evident in winter because of weakness of the sea breeze from Tokyo Bay. At 8 p.m., several peaks of high-temperature appeared, around Otemachi, Shinjuku and Ikebukuro; the areas with the largest anthropogenic heat fluxes. In summer the shortwave radiation was strong and the influence of anthropogenic heat was relatively small. In winter, on the other hand, the shortwave radiation was weak and the influence of anthropogenic heat was relatively large. The effects of reducing energy consumption, by 50% for hot water supply and 100% for space cooling, on near surface air temperature would be at most −0.5°C.  相似文献

The concentrations of total gaseous mercury (TGM) in air over the southern Baltic Sea and dissolved gaseous mercury (DGM) in the surface seawater were measured during summer and winter. The summer expedition was performed on 02–15 July 1997, and the winter expedition on 02–15 March 1998. Average TGM and DGM values obtained were 1.70 and 17.6 ng m−3 in the summer and 1.39 and 17.4 ng m−3 in the winter, respectively. Based on the TGM and DGM data, surface water saturation and air-water fluxes were calculated. The results indicate that the seawater was supersaturated with gaseous mercury during both seasons, with the highest values occurring in the summer. Flux estimates were made using the thin film gas-exchange model. The average Hg fluxes obtained for the summer and winter measurements were 38 and 20 ng m−2 d−1, respectively. The annual mercury flux from this area was estimated by a combination of the TGM and DGM data with monthly average water temperatures and wind velocities, resulting in an annual flux of 9.5 μg m−2 yr−1. This flux is of the same order of magnitude as the average wet deposition input of mercury in this area. This indicates that reemissions from the water surface need to be considered when making mass-balance estimates of mercury in the Baltic Sea as well as modelling calculations of long-range transboundary transport of mercury in northern Europe.  相似文献

Potassium carbonate sulfation plates, monitored monthly for 11 years from 48 sites in 11 cities in Gansu Province, China, provide a crude estimate of cumulative SO2 dry depositions. Measured SO2 dry deposition rates were 1.6–472 mg m−2 day−1 and had seasonal variations with maxima in winter and minima mainly during summer as a result of higher winter and lower summer SO2 concentrations. The 11-year monthly average SO2 dry deposition rates are 23.2–248.97 and 11.7–175.6 mg m−2 day−1 in the eleven cities in winter and summer, respectively. A monthly average SO2 deposition velocity was also estimated from 0.06 to 9.72 cm s−2 in the 11 cities studied with a 11-year average maximum value of about 1.1–2.7 cm s−2 in April and July and a 11-year average minimum value of about 0.2–1.0 cm s−1 in January. The SO2 dry deposition velocity also exhibits an increasing with wind speed in basins of less than 500 mm annual precipitation. In contrast, due to influences of the relative humidity in valleys of more than 500 mm annual precipitation, it shows a decreasing trend with wind speed increasing.  相似文献

A 12 month study of urban concentrations of total suspended particulates (TSP) and 20 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) was carried out in Seoul (South Korea), Hong Kong, Bangkok (Thailand), Jakarta (Indonesia) and Melbourne (Australia). Concentrations of particulate matter in the atmosphere varied widely between the cities over the course of the study, ranging from a low of 24.1 μg m−3 in Melbourne during the winter to a high of 376.2 μg m−3 in Jakarta during the dry season. Seasonal variations in both TSP and PAH were observed in the tropical cities in the study with higher concentrations during the dry season and lower concentrations during the wet season. TSP and PAH concentrations are correlated with each other in these cities, suggesting that they have related sources and sinks for these cities. In the temperate cities of Melbourne and Seoul, PAH concentrations were higher during the cold winter season and lower during the warm summer. However, TSP was quite variable over the years in these latter cities and no clear seasonal trend was observed. A number of factors have been investigated which could be contributing to seasonal variations in pollutant levels. In the temperate climates, increased emissions due to the use of fossil fuels for heating in the winter is evident. However, an interrogation of the database with respect to the other factors such as (1) increased photolytic degradation during the summer, (2) transport of pollutants from other sources, (3) removal of PAH via wet deposition and in-cloud scavenging mechanisms and (4) volatilisation of lower molecular weight species during periods of high temperature indicates the importance of multiple processes. Even though there are clearly much lower levels of both particulates and PAH in the wet season of the tropical climates, no statistically significant correlations have been observed between rainfall levels and pollutant concentrations.  相似文献

This paper presents salinity data of marine aerosols in a Brazilian coastal area at sites closer to the shore and discusses the influence of wind regime. Results show that measurements of marine salt deposition are strongly influenced by wind speeds above the critical value of 3.0 m s−1. Although there is no agreement in literature yet as to how much this threshold is, the level of 3.0 m s−1 is similar to the one found in a study carried out in Spain. An exponential variation of salt concentration with wind speed is presented in previous published papers. However, in the studied case, another relationship is proposed, which is based on chloride deposition on the wet candle device and wind speeds higher than 3.0 m s−1 weighted by the accumulated time in which these wind speeds are observed, what seems to be particularly useful when wind speed ranges around the critical value.  相似文献

Elevated ozone concentration is one of the current major environmental concerns in Taiwan. The spatial distribution and seasonal variations of ground level ozone over Taiwan are investigated by using air quality network stations of Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (TEPA). Data shows that high ozone episodes frequently occur over southwest Taiwan during autumn. In this season, shallow northeasterly winds prevail after frontal passage and are diverted by the Central Mountain Range (CMR) because of its mean altitude of about 2.5 km. The windward side in northern Taiwan is usually associated with cloudy days, whereas sunny days with weak wind speeds usually occur on the lee side of the CMR over southwest Taiwan due to topographical blocking. Numerical results indicate that anthropogenic emissions from the north of Kaohsiung could contribute as much as 41% of ozone for the Kaohsiung metropolitan area and 24% for the inland rural Pingtung area during the northerly flow. It is concluded that the contribution of the emissions from the north of Kaohsiung is significant and cannot be ignored. The northerly air masses, which flows over the western plain during daytime, picks up ozone and its precursors which are transported to southwestern Taiwan. After a sea breeze develops, strong onshore flow transports significant amounts of ozone and precursors to the inland rural areas resulting in the high ozone episodes that frequently occur over southwestern Taiwan during the autumn season.  相似文献

We present results from measurements by a NILU-UV Irradiance Meter of solar UV-B radiation in Lhasa, Tibet for the period from 7 July 1999 to 17 November 2002. The measured maximum UV-B dose rate was 1.50 W/m2 during the winter, and 3.96 W/m2, during the summer. The clear-sky values were below 3.00 W/m2. Comparisons between measured and calculated UV-B dose rates on clear-sky days in Lhasa show good agreement. Comparisons of UV-B radiation levels in Lhasa (Tibet), Oslo (Norway), and Dar-Es-Salaam (Tanzania) show that the UV-B dose rates during the summer in Lhasa are higher than the maximum value in Dar-Es-Salaam, which is at the sea level in the equatorial region, and 60% higher than in Oslo, which is at the sea level but 60 degrees North. We conclude that the UV-B dose rates during the summer on the Tibetan plateau are among the highest levels in habituated regions of the world. Maximum measured daily-integrated UV-B doses in Lhasa range from about 10 kJ/m2 in the winter to about 65 kJ/m2 in the summer.  相似文献

An Eulerian diffusion model coupled with a refined mass consistent wind model is developed for the operational forecasting of pollution distribution in complex terrain. The model is evaluated for a city situated in complex terrain. The study is carried out for a 20×20 km2 area surrounding Linz, one of the industrial cities of Austria. The models are initialized with routinely measured meteorological parameters and topology information derived from the Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Four case studies, representative for major pollution episodes, are presented for model evaluation. The case studies include presence of a thermally induced wind system, presence of cold front an easterly southeasterly flow and a westerly–northwesterly flow. In presence of thermally induced wind systems, the flow field is most complex and existence of a shallow mixed layer with residual layer aloft enhances the pollution levels inside the city. Second case is used to study the development of pollution distribution inside the city in presence of low-level inversions and associated with low surface wind speeds. The low wind speeds in the surface layer lead to less mechanical generation of turbulence and lateral transport. The case studies of easterly and westerly flow fields are carried out to assess the capability of model under most frequently observed meteorological situations. The model is able to reproduce the pollution distribution near the slopes. There were over prediction inside the city in presence of thermally induced wind systems and is attributed to inadequate model physics during convective case. The present model setup is found to be a useful tool for the routine forecasting of pollution and could also be tested for other complex terrains.  相似文献

Scanning electron microscopy coupled to energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX) was used to quantify individual bioparticles in PM2.5 samples collected during the Pittsburgh Air Quality Study. Microscopy-based estimates of primary biogenic organic aerosol (PBOA) mass were compared to carbohydrate mass associated with PM2.5. Carbohydrates show substantial seasonal variations, with higher concentrations in the spring and the fall. During the summer, carbohydrates were about 30% of the estimated PBOA concentrations, but in the winter carbohydrate concentrations often greatly exceeded the PBOA mass estimate. Spores and insect detritus were the most abundant PBOA types in the summer samples, while winter samples were comprised predominantly of a mixture of microorganisms, insect and vegetative detritus. During the summer PBOA contributed on average 6.9 ± 5.4% by mass of the PM2.5 versus 3.3 ± 1.4% of the PM2.5 mass during the winter.  相似文献

This study examines the spatial distribution of potential recirculation over the East Mediterranean Sea, and the combined effect of synoptic and meso-scale recirculations on plume dispersion in the region. For this purpose, three case studies are performed by the RAMS–HYPACT modeling system, each for a different synoptic scale flow pattern. Both a quantitative measure of the recirculation potential at each grid cell and particle dispersion are calculated. Although the recirculation index is an Eulerian quantity for the wind field and plume dispersion is a manifestation of the Lagrangian behavior of the wind, good correlation is found between the two.Several locations are identified as having high recirculation potential, including southern Cyprus, the coasts of Israel and Lebanon, the eastern slopes of the Judean Mountains and the Haifa Bay in particular. In the latter location, high recirculation potential could be explained by strong interaction between the land–sea surfaces, curvature of the bay and proximity of the Carmel ridge. It is shown that the synoptic and meso-scale recirculations may, under certain conditions, act together and at the same time in determining particle distribution. Under weak synoptic scale flows, particles are recirculated over the entire East Mediterranean Sea basin, returning onshore after a period of 2–3 days to join freshly emitted particles. At the same time, near-shore land–sea breeze effects cause particles to recirculate on smaller time scales of less then one day, sometimes passing as much as three times over the same airshed. A single elevated emission source is shown to have the potential to impair air quality at a coastal strip as long as 100–200 km upon returning onshore.  相似文献

Biomass burning, in the form of savanna fires and firewood for cooking and warmth, is widespread during the dry winter months in Southern Africa. This study was carried out to investigate its impact on the environment in Gaborone, Botswana, which is a small-sized city with very little pollution from industrial sources. Measurements of aerosol size and number concentrations were carried out at the University of Botswana campus in Gaborone from September 1999 to July 2000 using two automatic laser scattering particle counters. Particles were monitored in eight size ranges from 0.1 to 5.0 μm. The mean daily particle concentrations were found to vary from about 200 cm−3 on clear visibility days during the summer to a high of over 9000 cm−3 on cold winter evenings, when there was a significant smoke haze over the city. Particle concentrations were noticeably higher during the winter than in the summer. During a typical winter day, the total particle concentration peaked between 18 and 23 h, often showing an increase of over four-fold from mid-morning minimum values. The aerosol number size distributions under various conditions were investigated and the corresponding surface area and volume distributions were derived. In general, both the surface and volume distributions were bimodal with peaks close to 0.2 μm and at 5.0 μm or greater. A hand-held counter with a minimum detectable particle size of 0.3 μm was used to monitor the size and number concentrations of aerosols across the city. The results indicate a consistent pattern of maximum concentration in the highly populated areas close to the city centre, falling significantly in the sparsely populated outlying areas by up to an order of magnitude during peak biomass burning, suggesting that much of the smoke particles in the city are removed by wind.  相似文献

Multi-year hourly measurements of PM2.5 elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) from a site in the South Bronx, New York were used to examine diurnal, day of week and seasonal patterns. The hourly carbon measurements also provided temporally resolved information on sporadic EC spikes observed predominantly in winter. Furthermore, hourly EC and OC data were used to provide information on secondary organic aerosol formation. Average monthly EC concentrations ranged from 0.5 to 1.4 μg m?3 with peak hourly values of several μg m?3 typically observed from November to March. Mean EC concentrations were lower on weekends (approximately 27% lower on Saturday and 38% lower on Sunday) than on weekdays (Monday to Friday). The weekday/weekend difference was more pronounced during summer months and less noticeable during winter. Throughout the year EC exhibited a similar diurnal pattern to NOx showing a pronounced peak during the morning commute period (7–10 AM EST). These patterns suggest that EC was impacted by local mobile emissions and in addition by emissions from space heating sources during winter months. Although EC was highly correlated with black carbon (BC) there was a pronounced seasonal BC/EC gradient with summer BC concentrations approximately a factor of 2 higher than EC. Average monthly OC concentrations ranged from 1.0 to 4.1 μg m?3 with maximum hourly concentrations of 7–11 μg m?3 predominantly in summer or winter months. OC concentrations generally correlated with PM2.5 total mass and aerosol sulfate and with NOx during winter months. OC showed no particular day of week pattern. The OC diurnal pattern was typically different than EC except in winter when OC tracked EC and NOx indicating local primary emissions contributed significantly to OC during winter at the urban location. On average secondary organic aerosol was estimated to account for 40–50% of OC during winter and up to 63–73% during summer months.  相似文献

Accumulation aerosol particle distributions were measured on 14 June 1997 during two research flights over northwestern Greece, including the greater Thessaloniki area (GTA). At flight altitudes of about 5000 m (<550 mb), accumulation mode number particle size distributions appeared to be unimodal with a maximum in the first bin of the measured number size distribution with a mid-point of 0.11 μm. At lower altitudes and over the GTA, accumulation mode particle size distributions were bimodal with a first mode peak at 0.125 μm and a second mode peak at 0.275 μm. The second mode was more pronounced in areas of higher relative humidity, thus indicating the presence of deliquescent aerosols, but also in areas where high O3 concentrations were measured. Ozone concentrations ranged between 25 and 60 ppb at high altitudes east of GTA and between 50 and 110 ppb over the city of Thessaloniki with the maximum measured at an altitude of about 500 m. This is consistent with the local topographical and meteorological conditions, mainly due to the nocturnal inversion and the development of local circulation flows (land and sea breeze) over the city.  相似文献

This paper describes total gaseous mercury (TGM) concentrations measured in Reno, Nevada from 2002 to 2005. The 3-year mean and median air Hg concentrations were 2.3 and 2.1 ng m−3, respectively. Mercury concentrations exhibited seasonality, with the highest concentrations in winter, and the lowest in summer and fall. A well-defined diel pattern in TGM concentration was observed, with maximum daily concentrations observed in the morning and minimum in the afternoon. A gradual increase of TGM concentration was observed in the evening and over night. The early morning increase in TGM was likely due to activation of local surface emission sources by rising solar irradiance and air temperature. The subsequent decline and afternoon minimum in TGM were likely related to increased vertical mixing and the buildup of atmospheric oxidants during the day resulting in increased conversion to oxidized species that are quickly deposited, coupled with weakening of the surface emissions processes. The described diel pattern was seasonally modulated with the greatest amplitude in variation of TGM concentrations occurring in the summer. It is suggested based on the comparison of diel TGM pattern with other gaseous pollutants that natural source surface emissions are a dominant source of TGM in the study area.  相似文献

Accelerated pavement wear is one of the major environmental disadvantages of studded tyres in northern regions and results in increased levels of PM10. Measurements of PM10 in a road simulator hall have been used to study the influence of pavement properties, tyre type and vehicle speed on pavement wear. The test set-up included three different pavements (one granite and two quartzite with different aggregate sizes), three different tyre types (studded, non-studded, and summer tyres) and different speeds (30–70 km h?1). The results show that the granite pavement was more prone to PM10 production compared to the quartzite pavements. Studded winter tyres yield tens of times higher PM10 concentrations compared to non-studded winter tyres. Wear from summer tyres was negligible in comparison. It was also shown that wear is strongly dependent on speed; every 10 km h?1 increase yielded an increase of the PM10 concentration of 680 μg m?3 in one of the simulator experiments.  相似文献
