I sampled recruitment of very small sea urchins (Strongylocentrotus spp.) by using the anesthetic magnesium chloride to remove individuals from substrata collected in sea-urchin barren grounds (barrens) and kelp beds at Naples Reef near Santa Barbara, California, USA. Preliminary sampling found low numbers of newly settled individuals(<0.6 mm test diam) from April–July in 1984 and 1985, and in April, 1986. In early May, 1986, I found many newly settled seaurchins (0.3 to 0.6 mm, 5 to 17 d old), and I compared the densities of the cohort on several types of natural substrata in barrens and kelp-bed habitats. Newly settled individuals of both purple sea urchins (S. purpuratus) and red sea urchins (S. franciscanus) were present in similar, high densities (1 000 S. purpuratus m-2) on foliose red algal turf, a dominant substratum ofthe kelp bed, and on crustose coralline algae, the dominant substratum of an adjacent barrens. Larvae of S. purpuratus reared and tested in the laboratory showed high rates of settlement on both red algal turf and on crustose coralline algae, but significantly lower rates on rock. Larvae also settled in response to a partiallypurified extract of coralline algae. The reduced settlement on natural rock surfaces relative to either algal treatment and the significant settlement in response to the extract of coralline algae indicate that larvae discriminate between natural substrata and probably respond to a settlement cue other than, or in addition to, a simple microbial (bacterial) film. The similar densities of young recruits of S. purpuratus on dominant substrata of barrens and kelp bed show that, at least in this case, differential settlement cannot explain the high densities of sea urchins in the barrens habitat. Movement between barrens and kelp bed is unlikely given the small sizes of the newly recruited sea urchins relative to the large distances often involved. Reduced post-settlement mortality of newly settled individuals in the barrens remains the most likely mechanism leading to the higher densities of sea urchins in barrens relative to kelp-bed habitats.  相似文献

Surfaces from the habitat of adult Haliotis rubra were tested as inducers of larval settlement to determine the cues that larvae may respond to in the field. Settlement was high on the green algal species Ulva australis and Ulva compressa (Chlorophyta), the articulated coralline algae Amphiroa anceps and Corallina officinalis, and encrusting coralline algae (Rhodophyta). Biofilmed abiotic surfaces such as rocks, sand and shells did not induce settlement. Ulvella lens was also included as a control. Treatment of U. australis, A. anceps and C. officinalis with antibiotics to reduce bacterial films on the surface did not reduce the settlement response of H. rubra larvae. Similarly, treatment of these species and encrusting coralline algae with germanium dioxide to reduce diatom growth did not significantly reduce larval settlement. These results suggest that macroalgae, particularly green algal species, may play an important role in the recruitment of H. rubra larvae in the field and can be used to induce larval settlement in hatchery culture.  相似文献

We tested whether ingesting toxic algae by heterotrophic prey affected their nutritional value to crab larval predators, using toxic algal strains that are either ingested directly by larval crabs or rejected by them. Ingestion of toxic strains of the dinoflagellates Alexandrium andersoni and A. fundyense by the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis was confirmed. Rotifers having ingested either algal type for five days were fed to freshly hatched larvae of three crab species, with larval survival and stage durations determined. For both algal/rotifer treatments in all three crab species, larvae fed algae directly died during the first zoeal stage, while those fed rotifers that had been fed either algal strain survived to the experiment’s end (zoeal stage 3). Survival was lower, and stage duration longer, for larvae fed rotifers cultured on toxic algae when compared to those fed non-toxic algae. The role of toxic algae in the planktonic food web may be influenced by its direct or indirect ingestion by larval crabs.  相似文献

The rate at which larvae successfully recruit into communities of marine benthic invertebrates is partially dependent upon how well larvae avoid benthic predators and settle on appropriate substrata. Therefore, to be able to predict recruitment success, information is needed on how larvae search for settlement sites, whether larvae preferentially settle on certain substrata, and the extent to which there are adequate cues for larvae to find these substrata. This article describes how larvae of the colonial ascidian Diplosoma similis find settlement sites on a coral reef. Direct field observations of larval settlement were made on a fringing reef in Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Hawaii, between September 1985 and April 1986. A comparison of the substrata that larvae contacted prior to settlement relative to the percentage cover of these substrata on the study reef suggests that larvae are using a non-contact mode of substratum identification to locate suitable settlement sites. This mode of substratum identification allowed 74% of larvae to evade predation by benthic organisms who would otherwise have eaten larvae if they had been contacted. Of those larvae that evaded predation, 88% subsequently settled on the same two substrata upon which most adults are found (dead coral or the green alga Dictyosphaeria cavernosa). This pattern of settlement was probably a result of active selection, since the two substrata cover only 14.4% of the reef's surface and currents had little effect on the direction in which larvae swam. An important contributing factor to the high success rate of larval settlement on suitable substrata was the lack of any temporal decay in substratum preference. It is concluded that for Diplosoma similis larval supply is a sufficient predictor of larval settlement rate. However, for marine invertebrates whose larvae are passively dispersed and exhibit a greater temporal decay in substratum preference, larval settlement should generally have a greater dependency on spatial variation in the abundance of benthic predators and suitable substrata.  相似文献

The occurrence of small specialist herbivores in marine rocky intertidal communities has been largely ignored. From 1984 to 1989, the phenology and demography of the common oligophagous ascoglossan opisthobranch Placida dendritica A.& H. was documented at several sites along the central coast of Oregon, USA. P. dendritica was found on the low intertidal green algae Codium setchellii Gardn., C. fragile (Sur.) Har. and Bryopsis corticulans Setch. during spring and summer. Ascoglossan abundance on Codium spp. varied spatially and temporally. Peak density usually occurred in May or June. Maximum ascoglossan live mass was 4 to 6 mg on Codium spp. and 100 mg on B. corticulans. Larval recruitment of P. dendritica to algal hosts was continuous during spring and summer. Rapid recruitment (200 to 400 sea slugs thallus-1mo-1) of newly metamorphosed ascoglossans to C. setchellii in wave-protected areas suggests that high densities of competent larvae occurred in nearshore waters and/or that larvae were efficient at locating algal hosts. Ascoglossan growth was rapid, with less than one month elapsing from larval settlement to adult sexual maturity. Therefore, populations of P. dendritica were composed of many overlapping generations. Movement of adult ascoglossans among thalli of C. setchellii was rapid. Continuous larval settlement and adult movement enabled P. dendritica not only to locate and colonize its algal hosts quickly but also to maintain a persistent association with algal hosts during spring and summer.  相似文献

Aqueous effluents from a lead mining and milling operation located in southeastern Missouri, USA, caused a degradation of stream quality despite treatment by a large tailings pond. The receiving stream was choked with algal mats which accumulated unexpectedly large amounts of manganese, lead and zinc. A wastewater treatment system was designed to utilize algae and benthic macrophytes to remove metals from the tailings pond effluent. The system has proved successful and water quality in the receiving stream has been improved to drinking water standards.Experiments were conducted to understand more fully the phenomenon of heavy metal accumulation by algae. Radionuclides (210Pb,203Hg,65Zn,109Cd) were used in conjunction with commercially available microculture apparatus to screen several species of algae for heavy metal accumulation. It was found that all species of algae studied concentrated mercury, green algae were more efficient accumulators of cadmium than blue-green algae, one alga (Chlamydomonas) proved best at removing lead from solution and no alga studied removed zinc.  相似文献

Settlement sites of marine invertebrate larvae are frequently influenced by positive or negative cues, many of which are chemical in nature. Following from the observation that many shallow-water, Hawai'ian marine macroalgae are free of fouling by sessile invertebrates, we predicted that the algae are chemically protected and dependent on either surface-bound or continuously released soluble compounds to deter settling invertebrate larvae. To address the importance of waterborne algal compounds, we experimentally determined whether larvae of two of Hawai'i's dominant hard-surface fouling organisms, the polychaete tube worm Hydroides elegans and the bryozoan Bugula neritina, would settle in the presence of waters conditioned by 12 species of common Hawai'ian macroalgae (representing the Phaeophyta, Chlorophyta, Rhodophyta and Cyanophyta). The results included a full spectrum of biological responses by each larval species to waterborne algal compounds. Larval responses to conditioned water were consistent for each algal species, but the outcomes were not predictable based on the taxonomic relationships of the algae. For example, among the species of Phaeophyta examined, different conditioned waters were: (1) toxic, (2) inhibited settlement, (3) simulated settlement, or (4) had no effect, compared to larvae in control dishes containing filtered seawater. Additionally, larval responses to aged (24 h) conditioned waters could not be predicted from the results of assays run with conditioned waters utilized immediately after preparation. Finally, settlement by larvae of one species did not predict outcomes of tests for the other species. Four of 12 shallow-reef Hawai'ian macroalgae tested released compounds into surrounding waters that immediately killed or inhibited settlement by both H. elegans and B. neritina (toxic: Dictyota sandvicensis; inhibitory: Halimeda discoidea, Sphacelaria tribuloides, Ulva reticulata); the remaining 8 algal species prevented settlement by one of these fouling organisms but for the other had no effect or, in some cases, even stimulated settlement  相似文献

A pilot study was conducted at Davies Reef on the central Great Barrier Reef between 20 November 1991 and 20 January 1992 to assess the suitability of settlement collectors for measuring larval settlement rates of echinoderms on coral reefs. The collectors were deployed for two months during summer when many echinoderm species are known to spawn. A total of 657 newly settled echinoderms were recovered from just 47 collectors, each having a volume of just 0.005 m3 but with a utilisable surface area of about 1.44 m2, indicating that competent-to-settle larvae were very abundant during the sampling period. Echinoids (7.8 sampler-1) and ophiuroids (5.6 sampler-1) were the most abundant groups on the collectors. Asteroids (0.2 sampler-1) and crinoids (0.3 sampler-1 were less common. The asteroids were all identified to species and included the crown-of-thorns starfish Acanthaster planci, Choriaster granulatus and Culcita novaeguineae. The newly settled echinoids could not be distinguished from each other but included Echinometra mathaei and Mespilia globulus. The abundance of each of the five different classes of echinoderms on the samplers was correlated with their abundance on the natural substratum. Significant spatial variability was found in settlement rates of echinoids over 1000s of metres and ophiuroids over 100s of metres, but not over smaller spatial scales. It is concluded that the collectors can provide a useful tool for monitoring spatial and temporal variability in settlement rates of echinoderms on coral reefs and for testing hypotheses about patterns of larval dispersal.  相似文献

The effects of small and large-scale roughness, overstory development, competition for space with sessile animals, and grazing on algal community development in a subtidal Macrocystis pyrifera forest were examined using specially prepared concrete blocks as substrata. Variation in small-scale roughness (crevices and grooves in the order of 0.1 to 3 mm width and depth) had no significant effects on community composition. However, M. pyrifera colonization, algal diversity, and sessile animal biomass were higher near the upper horizontal edges of blocks and concrete prisms. This “edge” effect may result from a combination of increased spore and larval settlement and enhanced growth of plants and animals associated with the turbulent eddies formed around these obstructions. Natural and experimentally produced variations in the algal overstory demonstrated that the presence of an overstory can reduce algal diversity and cover beneath. Caging experiments suggest that predatory fishes and sea-stars indirectly affect the algal community by removing sessile animals (primarily bryozoans) which compete with the algae for space. The exclusion of grazers resulted in increased growth of Gigartina spp. Selective grazing on this genus may account for its reduced abundance in the study area.  相似文献

A mosaic patchwork of the barnacle Balanus balanoides L., the mussel Mytilus edulis L., and the alga Fucus vesiculosus L. was found in the transitional region between the mid and high intertidal zones on a rocky headland on Mount Desert Island, Maine, USA. The development of the mosaic was observed by following recruitment and survival of B. balanoides in denuded patches located at the same tidal level along a 60 m stretch of shore. Barnacle recruitment was least under canopies of F. vesiculosus and greatest in open areas kept moist at low tide by surf. Barnacle survival after settlement was least under the F. vesiculosus canopy due to the whiplash effect of the algal fronds in the surf and greatest in open areas free from competition from mussels. In open areas, early mortality was correlated with settlement density. In areas of dense settlement (60 spat cm-2) up to 90% mortality resulted within 5 months from crowding associated with growth. In older individuals crowding produced hummocks of elongated, weakly attached barnacles which were more prone to removal by surf than uncrowded barnacles. Mussels exerted competitive dominance over barnacles for space and the presence of mussel beds prevented further barnacle recruitment. Mussels suffered extensive mortality during winter storms when surf removed dense mats of weakly attached mussels. The patchy distribution of mussels and barnacles results from irregular rock substrata producing numerous environmental patches with respect to wave exposure and drainage at low tide, and from densitydependent mortality of both mussels and barnacles which creates patches of new colonizable space within each environmental patch.  相似文献

The gut contents of three intertidal patellid limpets were analysed by collecting foraging specimens on a breakwater on the Tyrrhenian coast (central Italy) between May 1988 and October 1989. The three species coexist there showing a different, but partially overlapping zonation: Patella aspera dominates the infralittoral fringe; the majority of P. caerulea inhabits the lower midlittoral, while P. rustica is most abundant in the upper midlittoral. The algae present on slivers of substratum over which each limpet collected was moving were identified. Moreover, floristic surveys were made along the shore in order to characterize the algal cover of the different zonal belts. The floristic study revealed that the basic elements of algal communities typical of western Mediterranean rocky shores are present in the study area. The algae found on the slivers under the foraging limpets were generally representative of the algal community typical of the same zone. There was a marked difference between the diets of P. rustica and P. aspera due to the fact that the first species forages on a few low lying epilithic and endolithic Cyanophyceae, while P. aspera feeds on a large number of species belonging to all the main algal classes and life forms considered, including frondose epilithics and epiphytics. The diet of P. caerulea resembles that of P. aspera in algal heterogeneity, but is dominated by Cyanophyceae as in P. rustica. A detailed analysis of the differences between gut contents of each limpet species and the relative slivers showed an obvious general correspondence, but revealed also that the diets of the three species do not completely reflect the availability of algae. These findings suggest that the basic diet segregation mechanism between the three populations is their zonal separation. However, the difference in gut contents of heterospecific limpets foraging in the same zone suggests the existence of supplementary morphy-functional or behavioural mechanisms for diet segregation between the three species.  相似文献

The specificity in settling response of larval Aplysia juliana (Quoy and Gaimard, 1832) on species of its food algae, Ulva spp., provided a rare opportunity for the quantitative study of recruitment and early survival rates in a non-sessile marine invertebrate. Post-metamorphic juveniles spend about 3 weeks feeding and growing on the algae before moving to the rocky habitat of the adults. Recruitment and survival were studied by collecting weekly samples of algae and holding them in the laboratory until the recruits were large enough to be seen and reliably counted. Recruitment occurred throughout the year, although the rates were relatively low in late winter and spring. Recruitment was monitored relative to algal weight and bottom area. Variation in larval abundance and algal standing crop influenced recruitment to the study area. Mortality during the juvenile stage was very high in all cases, although the rates and shapes of the survivorship curves varied between algal species and location.  相似文献

The shallow kelp forest at Santa Catalina Island, California (33.45 N, −118.49 W) is distinguished by several canopy guilds ranging from a floating canopy (Macrocystis pyrifera), to a stipitate, erect understory canopy (Eisenia arborea), to a short prostrate canopy just above the substratum (Dictyopteris, Gelidium, Laminaria, Plocamium spp.), followed by algal turfs and encrusting coralline algae. The prostrate macroalgae found beneath E. arborea canopies are primarily branching red algae, while those in open habitats are foliose brown algae. Densities of Corynactis californica, are significantly greater under E. arborea canopies than outside (approximately 1,200 versus 300 polyps m−2 respectively). Morphological differences in macroalgae between these habitats may affect the rate of C. californica particle capture and serve as a mechanism for determining polyp distribution and abundance. Laboratory experiments in a unidirectional flume under low (9.5 cm s−1) and high (21 cm s−1) flow speeds examined the effect of two morphologically distinct macroalgae on the capture rate of Artemia sp. cysts by C. californica polyps. These experiments (January–March 2006) tested the hypothesis that a foliose macroalga, D. undulata, would inhibit particle capture more than a branching alga, G. robustum. G. robustum, found predominantly under the E. arborea canopy did not affect particle capture. However, D. undulata, found predominantly outside of the canopy, inhibited particle capture rates by 40% by redirecting particles around C. californica polyps and causing contraction of the feeding tentacles. These results suggest that the morphology of flexible marine organisms may affect the distribution and abundance of adjacent passive suspension feeders.  相似文献

Parrotfishes exhibit a range of feeding modes. These species vary in both feeding morphology and behaviour, but the vast majority of species leave distinctive scars on the substratum when feeding. Although the role of parrotfishes in reef resilience is well documented, the basis of this role and the effect of their grazing scars on the benthic community structure remain unclear. This study evaluated the dynamics of grazing scars of large adult Scarus rivulatus and Chlorurus microrhinos on an inshore reef in the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). These species represent the most abundant scraping and excavating parrotfish species on inshore reefs. Grazing scars of each species were marked, measured and observed for seven consecutive days. S. rivulatus grazing scars were smaller in area and volume and more rapidly reoccupied by algae than those of C. microrhinos. However, because of the higher abundance and feeding frequency of S. rivulatus at the study site, this species had higher algal removal rates than C. microrhinos. These species appear to play distinctly different functional roles in shaping the benthic community of inshore GBRs. S. rivulatus is primarily responsible for algal dynamics dominated by vegetative regrowth. In contrast, C. microrhinos opens relatively large areas which remain clear for several days. These scars may represent settlement sites which are relatively free from algae and sediment. This study provides new information on the differences between scraping and excavating parrotfishes and, in a system with just one abundant large excavating species, emphasizes the potential for low functional redundancy in high diversity coral reef systems.  相似文献

The obligate symbiotic relationship between dinoflagellates, Symbiodinium spp. and reef building corals is re-established each host generation. The solitary coral Fungia scutaria Lamarck 1801 harbors a single algal strain, Symbiodinium ITS2 type C1f (homologous strain) during adulthood. Previous studies have shown that distinct algal ITS2 types in clade C correlate with F. scutariaSymbiodinium specificity during the onset of symbiosis in the larval stage. The present study examined the early specificity events in the onset of symbiosis between F. scutaria larvae and Symbiodinium spp., by looking at the temporal and spatial infection dynamics of larvae challenged with different symbiont types. The results show that specificity at the onset of symbiosis was mediated by recognition events during the initial symbiont—host physical contact before phagocytosis, and by subsequent cellular events after the symbionts were incorporated into host cells. Moreover, homologous and heterologous Symbiodinium sp. strains did not exhibit the same pattern of localization within larvae. When larvae were infected with homologous symbionts (C1f), ~70% of the total acquired algae were found in the equatorial area of the larvae, between the oral and aboral ends, 21 h after inoculation. In contrast, no spatial difference in algal localization was observed in larvae infected with heterologous symbionts. This result provides evidence of functional differences among gastrodermal cells, during development of the larvae. The cells in the larval equator function as nutritive phagocytes, and also appear to function as a region of enhanced symbiont acquisition in F. scutaria.  相似文献

Mediterranean populations of Schizobrachiella sanguinea seem to span a wide range of contrasting benthic habitats. We have studied adult, larval, and recruit populations of S. sanguinea from sublittoral (approximately 10 m depth) communities at Blanes (Spain, NW Mediterranean). At the study site, the species colonises semi-obscure caves and, to a lesser extent, communities of sciaphilic algae. Our first goal was to show the periods of brooding, larval release, and recruitment. Plankton was collected about twice a week between July 1998 and June 2000 over an artificial reef. A total of 303 larvae were collected in 23 of the 102 days of sampling. At the study site the species shows a single, annual larval release period, which occurs from late March to June–July every year. Recruits were found from late May to late August 1999 and in late May 2000. A recruitment peak was observed in July 1999 and again in late May 2000. The presence of brooding adults corresponded to the periods of larval supply and recruitment. Our second goal was to investigate the causes of the variable distribution of the species along several communities in the north-west Mediterranean Sea. We describe adult distribution and the dynamics of larval supply, recruitment of early (15 days from settlement) and late (4 months from settlement) recruits. Patterns of larval presence and early recruit distribution along the communities on the reef did not reflect the adult distributions, whereas this was closely matched by the distribution of late recruits. Post-recruitment mortality strongly affected recruits of the PA (photophilic algae) and SA (sciaphilic algae) communities, whereas it was very low in the communities of SOC (semi-obscure caves). Mortality of recruits was density independent and colony survivorship in the SA communities, where recruitment was the highest, appeared strongly affected by competition with brown algae. Like the majority of cheilostomate bryozoans, S. sanguinea releases a coronate larva capable of active swimming and positive reaction to light. Such swimming abilities may allow larvae to actively select the substrate on which to settle and to avoid unsuitable substrates. It seems that larval behaviour does not explain the preference of S. sanguinea for sciaphilic habitats. High post-recruitment mortality due to various factors, especially competition with fast-growing algae, seems particularly relevant in determining the adult distributions observed.Communicated by S.A. Epifluorescence microscopy was applied as a new technique to observe the response of Crassostrea virginica veliger larvae to the algal foods Monochrysis lutheri or Chlorella autotrophica. Uptake, lysis, and digestion or rejection of these algae by oyster larvae were observed microscopically through the autofluorescence of chlorophyll a and its derivatives. Both species of algae were taken up by large numbers of larvae within 5 min after being added to larval cultures. The good growth of larvae obtained with M. lutheri as a food source was related to rapid uptake, lysis, and digestion of this alga. Larvae fed with C. autotrophica did not grow. Althogh C. autotrophica was also taken up rapidly by the larvae, there was no lysis or digestion of these algae and cells were eventually voided.  相似文献

We examined the chemical antifouling properties of four sublittoral red algae, Chondrus crispus, Delesseria sanguinea, Osmundea ramosissima, and Polyides rotundus, which are all rarely fouled in the field. Two different approaches were used. Firstly, we tested the effects of lipophilic crude extracts on the settlement behaviour of cyprid larvae of the co-existing barnacle Balanus improvisus. Secondly, in a settlement preference experiment, we tested whether B. improvisus cyprid larvae settle on living algae when given a choice between natural algal surfaces and control surfaces. With this procedure, we were able to test both if the algae inhibit recruitment of cyprids, and if this inhibition is a result of chemistry. The settlement of B. improvisus larvae was strongly inhibited at concentrations estimated to be potentially ecologically relevant for all of the tested extracts. However, only C. crispus significantly inhibited settlement in the preference experiment, even though there was also a tendency for settlement inhibition on P. rotundus and O. ramosissima. In contrast, D. sanguinea seemed to stimulate settlement. This contradiction probably resulted from an extraction of metabolites that naturally occur only inside the alga. However, as this study shows, a combination of settlement assays with whole-cell extracts and preference tests of ecologically relevant fouling organisms on natural algal and control surfaces may be a useful procedure to avoid erroneous conclusions regarding natural antifouling roles of compounds based on settlement assays with only whole-cell extracts. Furthermore, this study also shows that production of inhibitory metabolites may explain the low degree of fouling, especially by B. improvisus, on C. crispus.Communicated by L. The occurrence of Tubiluchus corallicola (van der Land) in a lagoon on the East coast of Barbados, West Indies, is reported. 23 adult and 2 larval specimens were found in a sample taken from a subtidal stromatolite on which the animals presumably inhabited the algal surface layer. A comparison with data from earlier findings shows that the species is not confined to a particular type of substratum, yet morphologically it seems to be well adapted for a life in the interstitial sand habita. For the first time, living animals were observed and photographed. Lipophilic inducers of larval settlement and metamorphosis of Pseudocentrotus depressus and Anthocidaris crassispina, two commercially important sea urchin species in Japan, were isolated from the foliose coralline red alga Corallina pilulifera (collected in 1990 near Saga, Japan) and identified. Larval assays of the fractions obtained by silica gel column chromatography of the total lipids showed that non-polar groups of lipids were effective at inducing larval settlement and metamorphosis. The effective fractions were further subjected to gel filtration (Sephadex LH-20) and also to silica gel column chromatography, and the effective components isolated as single spots by thin-layer chromatography. The components at a concentration of ca. 0.4 mg paper-1 (sample was adsorbed on a paper with 20 cm2) induced high rates of larval settlement of both P. depressus and A. crassispina. Chemical analyses of the components revealed a mixture of free fatty acids (FFAs), dominated by eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5, 41 to 50%), palmitic acid (16:0, 11 to 17%), arachidonic acid (20:4, 9 to 15%), and palmitoleic acid (16:1, 4 to 5%). In assays with the four standard FFAs, only 20:4 and 20:5 induced larval settlement and metamorphosis of the two species, while 16:0 and 16:1 were ineffective. The larvae underwent significant rates of settlement and metamorphosis in response to the two former FFAs at levels as low as 0.18 mg paper-1. Amongst the free fatty acid components of the alga, 20:5 was isolated as the chemical inducer of larval settlement and metamorphosis of the sea urchins in the laboratory.  相似文献
