A field experiment was conducted at Anand Agricultural University, Anand during Sept-Dec, 2009 to study the rate of degradation of flubendiamide in/on brinjal fruits following foliar application of Fame 480 SC at 90 (standard dose) and 180 (double dose) g a.i. ha(?-1). The residues estimated using HPLC revealed persistence of flubendiamide in/on brinjal till 3rd and 7th day after the last spray at standard and double dose, respectively. The residues of flubendiamamde were reported as parent compound, and no desiodo metabolite was detected. The initial deposits of 0.17 and 0.42 μg g(?-1) in/on brinjal fruits reached below determination level of 0.05 μg g(?-1) on the 5th and 10th day at standard and double dose, respectively. The half life of flubendiamide on brinjal fruits ranged from 2.68 to 2.55 days. Soil samples analyzed on the 15th day after the last spray revealed residues at below determination level (0.05 μg g(?-1)) at either dose of application.  相似文献

In any ecological risk assessment, afull complement of the relevant members of theecosystems being studied should be considered. Reptiles in general, and snakes in particular, areimportant although often neglected components ofterrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and should beincluded in any study on environmental contamination. By neglecting reptiles, the risks posed by aparticular contaminant cannot be fully assessed. Since all snakes are secondary, tertiary, and toppredators, they are susceptible to the bioaccumulationof environmental contaminants. Their unique lifehistories make their roles in food webs diverse andimportant, and they are crucial to the properfunctioning of many ecological processes. We reviewand summarize organic and inorganic contaminant andradionuclide/radiation residue and lethal andsublethal effects data for snakes to stress theimportance of snakes and encourage their inclusion inecological risk assessments, to demonstrate thepaucity of available contaminant data on snakes andreveal the main information gaps, to encourage furtherecotoxicological studies on snakes, and to facilitatethe use of existing snake contaminant data inecological risk assessments. This review is the mostcomprehensive review currently available on theeffects on and accumulation of environmentalcontaminants in snakes.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to monitor the sensitivity of two populations of Corophium orientale (Crustacea: Amphipoda) living at the outfall of two rivers (Magra and Serchio), comparing their responses towards two different toxicant solutions. Sensitivity was monthly checked performing the 96h-LC50 static water only test with Cd(NO3)2 and SDS. If no significant differences were found between the two populations, they could have been employed without distinction to perform sediment toxicity bioassays. As regard to Cd, an increasing in LC50 values from summer to winter was evident in each population (Serchio River: August 2003  =  1,36 mg/l, February 2004  =  7,23 mg/l; Magra River: August  =  1,21 mg/l, April  =  5,01 mg/l). This pattern was correlated to the droop of temperatures in winter period. The responses of the two populations towards the cadmium were compared using the ANOVA. The analysis showed any significant differences between the populations (p  =  0.12). The pattern of sensitivity towards SDS for the population living on Magra River was similar to the same pattern found for Cd; as regard to the population living on Serchio River, data were not enough to describe the annual pattern. Anyway, statistical analysis was performed and no significant differences were found between the two populations (p  =  0.34).  相似文献

It is well known that in the analysis of low temperature vaporized metal elements such as cadmium and lead, a high ashing temperature causes a loss of the target atoms at the ashing stage, while low ashing temperature causes incomplete decomposition of organic components in the sample. In order to solve these problems, the effect of oxygen addition on determination of cadmium and lead in blood and foods was studied. Oxygen was introduced into the atmosphere in the graphite furnace at the beginning of ashing stage for 20 seconds at 0.5 l/min. Relation between ashing temperature and sensitivity was examined, and the oxygen addition minimized signal depression by the sample matrix. It can be concluded that the addition of oxygen at the ashing stage not only reduces the background absorption, but also suppress the volatilization of target atoms at the ashing stage by the formation of their oxides.  相似文献

Cadmium is an important contaminant of superphosphate. Market samples of superphosphate revealed a concentration of cadmium in the range of 18.2–28.5 mg/kg. Application of periodic excess doses of superphosphate in vineyards 5–35 years old has led to elevated concentrations of cadmium in the ground water in the vineyards. Ground water samples from different vineyards analysed for cadmium by atomic absorption spectrophotometry revealed concentrations of cadmium in the range of 3.2–99.2 µg/I. These concentrations of cadmium in the ground water can be regarded as significant, since ground water serves as the only source of water for the vineyards.  相似文献

Thiacloprid, a neonicotinoid insecticide with novel mode of action, is found to be effective against several lepidopteran as well as hemipteran pests. The present studies were carried out to observe the persistence pattern of thiacloprid on brinjal and to suggest suitable waiting period for the safety of consumers. Persistence of thiacloprid in brinjal was studied following three applications of thiacloprid (Alanto 240 SC) at 180 and 360 g a.i. ha?1 at 7 days interval. Residues of thiacloprid in brinjal were estimated by high-performance liquid chromatography and were confirmed by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. The average initial deposits of thiacloprid were observed to be 0.48 and 1.05 mg?kg?1 on the brinjal fruit following third application of thiacloprid at recommended and double the recommended dosages, respectively. Half-life periods for thiacloprid were found to be 0.47 and 0.50 days at single and double the application rates, respectively. Residues of thiacloprid declined below its limit of quantification of 0.05 mg?kg?1 after 3 and 5 days, respectively, at recommended and double the recommended application rates. Therefore, the use of thiacloprid does not seem to pose any risk hazard and a waiting period of 1 day is suggested for safe consumption of brinjal fruits.  相似文献

The disruption of the endocrine systems of gastropod molluscs and consequential physiological changes (imposex and intersex) are used as biomarkers for environmental contamination by tributyltin compounds. The first international laboratory performance study on the determination of imposex and intersex in neogastropod molluscs, Nucella lapillus and Littorina littorea has been undertaken by the QUASIMEME (Quality Assurance of Information for Marine Environmental Monitoring in Europe) project. Samples of live gastropods were distributed and participants were asked to record shell height and sex, together with penis length and vas deferens sequence stage (VDS) in Nucella or the intersex stage (IS) and prostate length in Littorina. Calculations were made of vas deferens sequence index (VDSI) and the relative penis size index (RPSI) in Nucella and of intersex stage index (ISI) and the average female prostate length (FPrL) in Littorina. Thirteen (87%) of the 15 participating laboratories returned data. The remaining two laboratories asked to participate in later exercises. For Nucella, seven laboratories reported sex ratios significantly different from the reference laboratory data. Differences in penis length measurements between laboratories were largely random, although there were indications of systematic errors affecting the data from three laboratories. Seven laboratories reported satisfactory data (Z-score magnitude of Z < 2) for VDSI. The inclusion of a high proportion of sub-adults in the Nucella samples may have made separation of the sexes more difficult than in mature adults. The sub-adults will have had smaller pene than mature adults in the same population, and therefore any errors (random or systematic) in the measurement of penis length or observation of reproductive organs would have a potentially greater impact on the final reported values of the summary imposex indices. The Littorina sample did not show a high degree of intersex (ISI = 0.41). The laboratories could determine the sex of Littorina reliably and only one laboratory reported data significantly different from the reference laboratory. Herbicide is indispensable for crop production. However, substantial usage of herbicide has led to its increasing accumulation in soils and crops. In addition, cadmium has become one of the widely occurring contaminants in soils due to its significant release into environment via anthropogenic activities. In this study, ecotoxicological investigations were made by exposing the food crop wheat to joint contaminations of Cd and metsulfuron-methyl, a sulfonylurea herbicide. We analyzed growth and physiological and molecular responses in wheat exposed to 0.5 mg kg?1 Cd and 0.02 mg kg?1 metsulfuron-methyl (MSM). Soils contaminated with Cd and MSM complex caused significantly detrimental effect on wheat growth and physiological process. Combinative treatments with Cd and MSM damage more severely the plant cells as compared with Cd or MSM treatment alone. Compared with the growth parameter, the biochemical and molecular responses of wheat appeared more pronounced to Cd and MSM complex. Furthermore, compared with control, wheat plants exposed to Cd?+?MSM generated more O2?.and H2O2, both of which were shown to be the cause of enhanced activity of several antioxidant enzymes. Native polyacrylamide gel eletrophoresis and molecular response analyses were performed to validate the results indicated above. Our results indicated that joint contamination with Cd and MSM was more toxic to wheat than a single contamination. These sensitive biological parameters can be used as biomarkers monitoring the ecotoxicological process in plants.  相似文献

Concentration of heavy metals in aquatic animals mainly occurs due to industrial contamination. In this study, the concentrations of four heavy metals (cadmium, lead, mercury, and arsenic) in organs of two cyprinid fish and in water collected from three sections of the Kor River, Iran were determined using the inductively coupled plasma method. Pathological and hormonal changes due to metal contamination were also measured. The concentrations of heavy metals in tissue of fish from the middle sampling zone were significantly higher (p?<?0.05) than those from the other two sampling zones, whereas no significant differences (p?>?0.05) were detected between the two sexes and species. High levels of metals were found in the ovaries and testes; estradiol in females and progesterone and testosterone in males from the middle study site were significantly (p?<?0.05) lower than values from the other two sites. Pathological changes in blood cells, liver, and kidneys of fishes were significantly higher in highly polluted areas (middle sampling zone). These results show that industrial activities have polluted the river and that the maximum concentrations of Cd, Pb, and Hg were higher than the permissible levels for human consumption.  相似文献

Residues of flubendiamide and desiodo flubendiamide were studied following three applications of flubendiamide 480 SC at 7 days interval at 90 and 180 g a.i. ha(-1) in/on brinjal fruits. An average initial deposit of 0.33 and 0.61 mg kg(-1) of flubendiamide was observed respectively after application at single and double dosages. The residues of flubendiamide dissipated quickly at both the dosages, and after 3 days, the extent of dissipation was found to be about 76% and 79% at the single and double dosages, respectively. Brinjal fruit samples analysed at different time intervals did not show the presence of desiodo flubendiamide. The half-life of flubendiamide was observed to be 0.62 and 0.54 days at single and double dosages, respectively. The limit of determination of flubendiamide and desiodo flubendiamide was observed to be 0.05 mg kg(-1). Soil samples analysed after 15 days of the last application did not reveal the presence of flubendiamide and desiodo flubendiamide at their determination limit of 0.05 mg kg(-1). An assessment of the total intake of flubendiamide resulting through the consumption of brinjal fruits and its comparison with acceptable daily intake seems to be quite safe from consumer point of view.  相似文献

The effect of indigenous arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi on lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) uptake by the hyperaccumulator plant Viola baoshanensis was studied in greenhouse pot experiments. Seedlings of V. baoshanensis inoculated without or with indigenous AM fungi were grown in paddy soil with the addition of Pb at 0, 500, 1000 and 1500 mg kg(-1), or of Cd at 0, 50,100, 200 mg kg(-1), or in mine soil with the addition of phosphorus at 0, 50, 250, 500 mg kg(-1). AM colonization increased shoot biomass at low phosphorus levels, and this beneficial effect was diminished or reversed by high phosphorus availability. AM colonization decreased shoot Cd concentrations regardless of the availability of Cd and phosphorus, but the mechanisms involved varied with Cd availability. At low Cd bioavailability, reduced Cd uptake was due to decreased Cd translocation from the roots to the shoots, whereas that was attributed to reduced root uptake at high Cd bioavailability. In contrast, the effect of AM colonization on shoot Pb varied with the availability of phosphorous and Pb. Our results show that the interactions between V. baoshanensis and indigenous AM fungi were modified by the availability of Pb, Cd and phosphorus.  相似文献

Under a low temperature condition of 12°C, accumulation of copper by the ragworm, Hediste (Nereis) diversicolor, increased at low salinity of 7.6 but was reduced at intermediate and high salinities of 15.25 and 30.5, respectively. Copper contents of the worms at low salinity and temperature ranged from 68 to 185 µg/g. Under increasing temperature of 17 and 22°C, bioavailability of copper to the worms increased irrespective of salinity gradient. The copper contents of the worm ranged from 59 to 784 µg/g dry weight. ANOVA analysis of data showed that salinity did not significantly affect accumulation of copper by the worm. Temperature significantly affected accumulation. The interaction of salinity and temperature was significant and complex, and days of exposure did not influence accumulation. Depuration of copper by the worm was independent of salinity which ranged from 510 to 15.6 µg/g. Temperature significantly affected depuration. The interaction of salinity and temperature was significant. However, individual worms neither accumulated nor depurated at the same rate.  相似文献

The marine polychaete worm Nereis virens was used to study the bioaccumulation patterns of metal exposures with pulverised fuel ash (PFA). Juvenile N. virens were exposed for 12 weeks to sediments comprised of 100% PFA, 50% PFA-50% clean sand, a reference sediment (contaminated harbour-dredged material) and a clean sand control. Mortality after the first 4 weeks was high at 32–45% in the four sediments. However, this declined to a few percent during the following 8 weeks. Growth expressed as biomass (wet weight) was reduced in bout PFA treatments and the reference sediment. Heavy metal accumulation in the tissues of N. virens was characterised as follows: a group of elements showed negligible to low accumulation (Cd, Cr, Ni, and Zn), As and Cu wich showed a definite, but moderate accumulation: and finally Se, which showed a low accumulation rate, where an uptake equilibrium was not reached after 9 weeks. It is concluded that acute toxic effects did not occur but a population of N. virens inhabiting a PFA dumping site could be affected by high Se concentrations.  相似文献

A compact model for evaluation of acid flushing of heavy-metal-contaminated soil in a small-scale on-site treatment plant is proposed. The model assumes that the soil was re-packed in a container after excavation resulting in a soil structure with heterogeneous and random physical and chemical properties. To evaluate the effects of heterogeneity on the efficiency of contaminant removal by acid flushing, a numerical analysis of lead transport in the heterogeneous soil medium was performed. The model examines cation exchange and surface complexation reactions involving three cations (Ca, Pb, and H) and one anion (Cl) in both dissolved and exchangeable forms, two Pb surface complexes (SOPbCl and SOPbOH), and one Cl surface complex (SOH2Cl). The transport of these species during flushing with acid in a synthetically generated two-dimensional heterogeneous soil was simulated in the model. Results indicated that the flushing fluid preferentially followed pathways with large permeability. The heterogeneous cation exchange capacity (CEC) distribution and surface complexation sites had a significant effect on the transport of dissolved species. Because the CEC was set to a relatively low value, Pb was adsorbed mainly as surface complexes (SOPbCl and SOPbOH). Simulation results suggest that blocks of low hydraulic conductivity located in the upper part of the model domain greatly impede solute transport. Ponding conditions did not significantly affect the efficiency of decontamination. The model and its results are useful in the design of small-scale treatment plants for acid flushing.  相似文献

Without sediment, increasing salinity (7.3 to 29.2) and increasing temperature (12 to 22 °C) reduced the toxicity of copper to juvenile Hediste diversicolor. The LC50 values ranged from 357 gL-1 in 7.3 to 513 g L-1 in 29.2 at 12°C and from 247 to 500 g L-1 at 22°C. In deionized water all the juvenile were dead in all solutions to which copper was added (100 to 600 g L-1). Dead worms were swollen and everted their pharynxs. In higher doses of copper (500 to 600 g L-1) the worms were abnormal in behaviour in all salinities (0 to 29.2). The ability to swim or crawl was disturbed.With sediments increasing temperature and increasing salinity increased the toxicity of copper to the worms. The LC50 values ranged from 3200 to 4100 g L-1 at 22°C. The response of the juvenile to copper was antagonistic to increasing temperature and salinity and synergistic to increasing salinity and increasing temperature without and with the sediment respectively.  相似文献

Nanoscale materials offer new possibilities for the development of novel remediation and environmental monitoring technologies. Different nanoscale materials have been exploited for preventing environmental degradation and pollutant transformation. However, the rapid self-aggregation of nanoparticles or their association with suspended solids or sediments where they could bioaccumulate supports the need for polymeric coatings to improve mobility, allows faster site cleanups and reduces remediation cost. The ideal material must be able to coordinate different nanomaterials functionalities and exhibit the potential for reusability. We hereby describe two novel environmental applications of nanostructured poly (amic acid)-based (nPAA) materials. In the first application, nPAA was used as both reductant and stabilizer during the in situ chemical reduction of chromium(vi) to chromium(iii). Results showed that Cr(vi) species were rapidly reduced within the concentration range of 10(-1) to 10(2) mM with efficiency of 99.9% at 40 °C in water samples and 90% at 40 °C in soil samples respectively. Furthermore, the presence of PdNPs on the PAA-Au electrode was found to significantly enhance the rate of reduction. In the second application, nPAA membranes were tested as filters to capture, isolate and detect nanosilver. Preliminary results demonstrate the capability of the nPAA membranes to quantitatively capture nanoparticles from suspension and quantify their abundance on the membranes. Silver nanoparticles detection at concentrations near the toxic threshold of silver was also demonstrated.  相似文献

Methomyl, S-methyl (EZ)-N-(methylcarbamoyloxy)thioacetimidate, is a systemic insecticide chosen for the management of shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis G. Codex Alimentarious Commission has proposed a maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.2 mg kg???1 of methomyl, and there is a need to validate this value on eggplant. First + first-order model can explain the nonlinear dissipation pattern of methomyl conveniently in comparison to first-order kinetics. The preharvest intervals (PHI) of 27.3 and 35.3 days as obtained from first + first-order model for single and double doses would bring down the methomyl residue below MRL in actual practice. The respective half-lives were 6.6 and 7.8 days. On the other hand, first-order model suggests methomyl dissipated with a half-life value around 5 days and proposed PHIs of 6.57 and 8.57 days for single and double doses, which was far from reality. Hence, five different decontamination agents were chosen for the decontamination of methomyl from eggplant. Safety factors such as theoretical maximum daily intake and maximum permissible intake were used to evaluate risk assessment to human health. A 3-day waiting period for the both doses, following conventional agricultural practice and processing factor could not ensure sufficient margin of safety. Subjecting the data to a processing factor of 60% could not bring the residues below the proposed MRL by Codex. Methomyl is not found appropriate and effective for application in eggplant. Either the proposed MRL needs to be revised or good agricultural practice involving methomyl for plant protection in eggplant cultivation is questioned.  相似文献

Cadmium, zinc and copper levels were determined in the renal cortex and liver of 60 inhabitants of Cracow, Poland. Cadmium levels in the renal cortex were contained in broad limits of 5–176 g/g, mean 50.6 g/g (wet weight). Maximum levels were found in the age group of about 50–60 years. The levels were slightly higher in men (53 g/g) than in women (45 g/g), with no effect of location within the region. The levels in smokers (62 g/g) were much higher than in non-smokers (32 g/g). The above relations were less pronounced for cadmium levels in the liver. Whole body retention of cadmium followed the pattern of cadmium in renal cortex. The level of zinc in renal cortex reflected those of cadmium. A significant proportion of the population (54% in smokers, 9% in non-smokers) showed cadmium levels in renal cortex exceeding the reference level of 50 g/g recently accepted for general population. In the view of the authors the exposure to cadmium of the population of Cracow is excessive and calls for attention.The study was performed under a KBN grant No 40106 91 01.  相似文献
