For individuals contaminated with persistent lipophilic pollutants, there is an urgent need for a therapy to enhance contaminant elimination from the body and hence reduce long term exposure. This study investigated the possibility of enhancing the excretion of native chemical via the faeces by augmenting the lipophilic properties of the faeces with the non-absorbable lipid substitute olestra. The faecal excretion of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and hexachlorobenzene (HCB) was measured in 3 volunteers. The excretion while eating an olestra-free diet was compared with the excretion while eating a diet supplemented wit 25 g/d of olestra. The excretion while on the olestra diet was higher by a factor of 1.5-11, depending on the compound. This resulted from higher concentrations of the contaminants in the faeces and higher excretion of faeces dry mass due to the food additive. Using 2,3,7,8-Cl4DD as an example, it was estimated that ingestion of 25 g/d of olestra would more than double the overall rate of elimination of this compound from the body. It is concluded that regular consumption of olestra may provide a therapeutic approach for reducing the body burden of persistent lipophilic contaminants.  相似文献

Seventeen polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) were quantified in adipose tissue samples of non-occupationally exposed women living in Southern Spain. Geometric mean levels of sum of congeners and WHO(PCDD/F)-TEQ(2005) were 410 and 17.9pgg(-1) fat, respectively. Among PCDDs, octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) showed the highest concentration with a mean value of 265pgg(-1) fat, followed by 1,2,3,6,7,8-HxCDD (49.3pgg(-1) fat) and 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-HpCDD (45.2pgg(-1) fat). These three congeners were responsible for around 90% of the sum of all PCDD/F congeners in adipose tissue. The geometric mean 2,3,7,8-TCDD value was 1.87pgg(-1) fat. 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF (8.43pgg(-1) fat) showed the highest concentration among the PCDFs, followed by 1,2,3,4,7,8-HxCDF (4.17pgg(-1) fat) and 1,2,3,6,7,8-HxCDF (3.28pgg(-1) fat), and these three congeners were responsible for 4% of the sum of all studied PCDD/F congeners in adipose tissue and 76% of the sum of ten PCDFs. 1,2,3,7,8,9-HxCDF was the only congener not quantified in any sample, while 1,2,3,4,7,8,9-HpCDF, 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDF, OCDF and 2,3,7,8-TCDF were found in 5, 16, 16 and 19 samples, respectively. All other congeners were quantifiable in all 20 samples. Congeners contributing most to the WHO(PCDD/F)-TEQ(2005) were 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDD (31.6%), 1,2,3,6,7,8-HxCDD (28.3%) and 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF (14.6%). The body burden of log-transformed WHO(PCDD/F)-TEQ(2005) levels increased with age (B=0.02; 95% CI=0.01, 0.03; p=0.02). Although these adipose tissue PCDD/F levels are similar to previously published findings in Spain and other European countries, further research is needed to determine trends in the exposure of women to these chemical residues.  相似文献

When food producing animals are contaminated with PCDD/F congeners, information on the contaminant’s concentration in the bodies of the animals at time of slaughter is needed for risk management purposes. We have developed a mathematical model for the kinetics of PCDD/Fs in growing pigs in case of contaminated feed fed for a limited duration of time. This model allows the prediction of concentrations in body fat. It considers absorption fractions of PCDD/Fs, clearance by metabolism, dilution by growth and excretion through fecal fat. The model parameters were calibrated by fitting the model to experimental data. On the basis of this toxicokinetic model a probabilistic model has been constructed. The probabilistic model handles the parameters with appropriate probability distributions and Monte-Carlo simulation technique, providing for realistic situations with many animals and a range of contaminations and feeding intervals. We applied the new model to describe the German dioxin incident of winter 2010/2011 and discuss its viability as decision tool. The approach demonstrated here is a showcase how a risk assessment in the case of contaminated feeding can be performed.  相似文献

The transport processes of seventeen 2,3,7,8-chlorinated congeners of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) from their major sources to humans were modeled to estimate the time course, from the past to the future, of the human health risk to the Japanese population. The comparison between measured and estimated values showed that the present modeling approach represented the background levels of congeners in the environment, daily intake, and body burden reasonably well, except for in the case of 2,3,7,8-TCDF. Although PCDD/Fs in herbicides have contributed greatly to the daily intake and body burden to the Japanese population in the past, the main sources of the present intake and burden of PCDD/Fs is estimated to be incinerators. The margin of exposure (MOE) for the risk of morphological reproductive alteration in female offspring exposed prenatally was calculated based on the estimated maternal body burden. The results indicated that the MOE values were in the single digits, implying that these values may not be sufficiently large to guarantee the safety of female offspring of mothers born in the 1950s, whereas the MOE values for female offspring born in and after the latter half of the 1990s may be sufficiently large to guarantee safety.  相似文献

A food contamination incident involving polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs) and PCDD/Fs occurred in 1999 in Belgium. On heavily affected farms, concentrations of PCBs in chicken or pork fat exceeded the Belgium tolerance limit of 200 ng/g lipid weight for the sum of seven marker PCBs. Analysis of contaminated samples showed that the patterns for PCB and PCDD/F congeners differed among feed, chicken fat and pork fat. Lower chlorinated PCBs and polychlorodibenzofurans (PCDFs) including those with high TEFs (PCBs 105, 118, 126 and 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF) were shown to either bioaccumulate more in chicken fat or to be eliminated more readily in pork. This leads to the possibility that consumption of chicken would result in a higher TEQ human body burden than that from the same consumption of pork. In addition, PCDF congeners with non-2,3,7,8-substitution (e.g., 1,2,4,7,8-PeCDF) were present in chicken fat but absent in pork fat. Since the residue pattern in this commercial episode changes less in the avian species, these results reinforce the value of birds rather than mammals as markers of the source of contamination with persistent organochlorine pollutants.  相似文献

The gastrointestinal exchange of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dibenzo-p-dioxins, and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) as well as hexachlorobenzene was measured in five volunteers. The dietary intake and the fecal excretion of the chemicals were quantified and the net absorption/net excretion was calculated as the difference between these two fluxes. Experiments were conducted using an elevated dietary intake and a reduced dietary intake of chemical, and the results were compared with the absorption during normal dietary intake. The net absorption varied widely with the dietary intake for those compounds which bioaccumulate in humans; high dietary intake of chemical resulted in absorption approaching 100% of intake, while low dietary intake resulted in a net excretion several times greater than the dietary intake. In contrast to net absorption, the chemical flux in the feces was largely independent of the dietary intake of chemical for a given individual. Good agreement was found between the feces/blood distribution coefficients measured in this study and in a study with contaminated workers whose blood concentrations were several orders of magnitude higher, indicating that fecal excretion of chemical is linearly proportional to the blood concentration. The results suggest that gastrointestinal exchange can be viewed as two processes operating simultaneously: absorption of contaminant from the diet, and excretion of contaminant from the body's reservoirs via the feces. By subtracting that component of the fecal flux originating from the body, the maximum dietary absorption could be calculated. This was >95% for most of the compounds, decreasing to a minimum of 50-60% for the octachlorinated dioxins and furans. The maximum dietary absorption showed a Kow dependency consistent with the two film model of gastrointestinal absorption of persistent organic chemicals.  相似文献

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (PCDD) and dibenzofuran (PCDF) concentrations were measured in sediment and seagrass from five locations in or adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. A full spectrum of Cl5-8DDs were present in all samples and, in particular, elevated levels of Cl8DD were found. PCDFs could not be quantified in any samples. The PCDD concentrations ranged over two orders of magnitude between sites, and there was a good correlation between sediment and seagrass levels. There were large quantities of sediment present on the seagrass (20-62% on a dry wt. basis), and it was concluded that this was a primary source of the PCDDs in the seagrass samples. The PCDD levels in the seagrass samples were compared with the levels in the tissue of three dugongs stranded in the same region. The relative accumulation of the 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD congeners in the dugongs decreased by over two orders of magnitude with increasing degree of chlorination. This was attributed to the reduced absorption of the higher chlorinated congeners in the digestive tract, a behaviour that has been observed in other mammals such as domestic cows.  相似文献

We modified our prior age-dependent half-life model to characterize the range of child (ages 0-7) body burdens associated with dietary and environmental exposure to polychlorodibenzodioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs). Several exposure scenarios were evaluated. Infants were assumed to be either breast-fed or formula-fed from birth to 6 months of age. They then received intakes of PCDD/Fs through age 7 from foods based on weighted means estimates [JECFA, 2001. Joint FAO/WHO Committee on Food Additives. Fifty-seventh meeting, Rome, June 5-14 , 2001, pp. 24-40], and with or without exposures (ingestion and dermal) to urban residential soils at 1ppb TCDD toxic equivalents (TEQ). A one-compartment (adipose volume) toxicokinetic model for TCDD described by Kreuzer [Kreuzer, P.F., Csanady, Gy.A., et al., 1997. 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) and congeners in infants. A toxicokinetic model of human lifetime body burden by TCDD with special emphasis on its uptake by nutrition. Arch. Toxicol. 71, 383-400] was expanded to include the key non-TCDD congeners in human breast milk and adipose tissues, and two model parameter refinements were examined: (1) use of updated and more detailed age-correlated body fat mass data [CDC, 2000. Centers for Disease Control. CDC Growth Charts: United States. Advance Data from Vital and Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics, Number 314, December 2000]; (2) use of breast milk PCDD/F concentration data from sampling completed in 2000-2003 [Wittsiepe, J., Fürst, P., et al., 2004. PCDD/F and dioxin-like PCB in human blood and milk from German mothers. Organohalogen Compd. 66, 2865-2872]. The updated body fat mass data nearly halved the predicted peak body burden for breast-feeding and lowered the time-weighted average (TWA) body burdens from ages 0-7 by 30-40% for breast-fed and formula-fed infants. Combined use of the updated breast milk PCDD/F concentration and body fat mass data increased the contribution of breast-feeding but reduced TWA body burdens from diet and soil. We conclude that further refinements are needed, but reliance on these better data sets for body fat mass and breast milk PCDD/F concentration significantly improves the model's ability to accurately predict body burdens during early childhood.  相似文献

In this paper results of various measurement campaigns at different municipal waste incineration (MWI) plants concerning the change of the PCDD/PCDF isomer distribution in the crude gas during transiently impaired combustion conditions are presented. The focus is on the Cl4DD isomer distributions exemplarily for all other homologue groups to demonstrate the change in PCDD/PCDF formation mechanism at transient combustion conditions. Additionally to crude gas samples, at one plant filter and boiler ash were investigated simultaneously to determine if there is any difference in the isomer distribution between the matrices. For the ash from an electrostatic precipitator (ESP ash), the boiler ash and the corresponding crude gas sample, nearly identical changes in the Cl4DD isomer distribution under transient combustion conditions in relation to the normal operation process could be detected. By comparing the Cl4DD isomer distributions from different incineration plants (two municipal waste incinerators and one little incinerator burning wood chips for heating domestic household) under transient combustion conditions, in all cases the 1,3,6,8- and 1,3,7,9-Cl4DD were dominating the isomer distribution, whereas under normal operation other isomers were predominant. Obviously PCDD/PCDF formation mechanisms under transient combustion conditions are independent from the type of incinerator and of the burned fuel, respectively. Data sets were analyzed with respect to the possible reaction mechanism via chlorophenols and a good correlation of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol during the second phase of a start-up process and during a CO experiment was found. To get more detailed information about possible formation mechanisms, at one plant the dependence of the PCDD/PCDF isomer distribution on the different matrices was studied. Separate analysis of fly ash collected at the boiler exit, subsequent gas phase, ESP ash and boiler ash under normal operation conditions showed that, apart from the fly ash, the Cl4DD isomer distributions are nearly the same in the different matrices. Surprisingly, the Cl4DD isomer distribution of the fly ash was more similar to the distributions found under transient combustion conditions.  相似文献

Nine samples of butter from producers in various states of Australia were analysed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs). Detectable concentrations of 2,3,7,8-chlorine substituted PCDD/Fs were found in all samples. The mean PCDD/F concentration expressed as 2,3,7,8-TCDD equivalents (TEQs) was 0.19 pg TEQ g-1 fat. The highest concentration (0.46 pg TEQ g-1 fat) was observable in a sample from Victoria which is the most densely populated state. Overall the results indicate that PCDD/F concentrations in dairy products from Australia are low in comparison to the levels in dairy products of industrialized countries on the Northern Hemisphere. As expected, this study provides evidence that the environmental and consequently the human body burden of PCDD/Fs to be relatively low in Australia.  相似文献

PCDD/F and PCB history in dated sediments of a rural lake   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD), dibenzofurans (PCDF) and biphenyls (PCB) were analysed from a sediment core, which had been sampled from a remote lake in Finland. The deepest subsamples were analysed from a depth of 4.0 m, and were more than 8000 years old. At the surface of the sediment core, low levels of industrial background contamination were detected. The sum of 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/Fs was 35 ng/kg d.w. (dry weight), or 1.2 ng/kg d.w. in WHO's toxicity equivalent, WHO-TEQ. The annual accumulation rate of 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/Fs was 1.26 ng m(-2) a(-1). Deeper in the core, PCDD/F concentrations ranged between 2.11 and 11.1 ng/kg d.w. (0.24 and 1.70 ng/kg d.w. WHO-TEQ) and the accumulation rate was 0.11 ng m(-2) a(-1). A characteristic PCDD/F congener profile was found in all pre-industrial sediment layers. The order of concentrations was OCDD > 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-HpCDD > 1,2,3,7,8,9-HxCDD > 1,2,3,4,7,8-HxCDD > 2,3,7,8-TCDD, and concentrations of 2,3,7,8-chlorinated dibenzofurans were below the detection limit. Similar congener profiles have previously been described in samples for which natural PCDD/F formation has been proposed. PCBs were present at low levels in all of the sediment samples. The sum of the PCB concentrations of the sediment subsamples ranged between 50 and 2540 ng/kg d.w., and the three predominant congeners in the core were PCBs 18, 52, and 110.  相似文献

We evaluated the impact of the 1999 Belgian dioxin incident on the blood plasma polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (PCDD) and polychlorinated dibenzofuran (PCDF) levels among 232 Belgian blood donors (74% men, mean age 47 years). The Red Cross made plasma samples from before the incident of these donors available. A second plasma sample was collected during the second half of 2000. The sum of the 17 PCDD/F congeners was significantly lower in 2000 compared to 1998 (417 pg/g fat versus 445 pg/g fat, respectively). This could be completely attributed to the significant decrease of OctaCDD (301 pg/g fat in 2000 versus 277 pg/g fat in 1998). Moreover a slight but significant decrease was observed for 2,3,7,8-TetraCDF and for 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-HeptaCDF. 1,2,3,7,8-PentaCDF and 2,3,4,7,8-PentaCDF however showed a slight but significant increase (respective levels in 1998 were 0.004 and 14.5 pg/g fat compared to 0.006 and 17.9 pg/g fat in 2000). Given their significantly higher presence in incident related food samples this increase can be attributed to the food contamination episode. However, the total toxicity remained unchanged (22.9 in 1998 versus 23.1 pg WHO-TEQ/g fat, p>0.05). Moreover the observed congener profiles and the total PCDD/F levels were similar to those of other European non-occupationally exposed populations. In conclusion, the 1999 PCB/dioxin incident was traceable in the plasma profiles (rise of the two specific PCDF congeners), but comparison of the results for both years indicates that the changes were too small to cause an adverse public health effect.  相似文献

For the general population the intake of food of animal origin is the main route of human exposure to polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/F). Besides this the ingestion of contaminated soil might be an important exposure path for small children. For risk assessment the knowledge of the bioavailable fraction of soil bound contaminants is important. In a balance study with young Goettingen minipigs the oral bioavailability of PCDD/F from contaminated soil was estimated by determination of the retention of PCDD/F from soil in different organs and tissues. Relative bioavailability was estimated by comparing the retention from soil to the retention of PCDD/F in organs and tissues after oral administration of a PCDD/F mixture extracted from the same soil by solvent. The soil had a PCDD/F-contamination of 5.3 microg I-TEq/kg and originated from a former arable land that had been treated with sludge from the port of Hamburg some years ago. Two groups of each four animals were exposed daily for 28 days via their diet either to 0.5 g soil per kg body weight and day (2.63 ng I-TEq/(kg(bw).d)) or to a daily dose of 1.58 ng I-TEq/(kg(bw).d) given to the diet by solvent. Five unexposed animals were used as a control group. Liver, adipose tissue, muscle, brain and blood were analyzed for their PCDD/F content. Accumulation of PCDD/F from soil or solvent in comparison to control animals was only observed for congeners with 2378-chlorosubstitution and predominantly took place in the liver. Bioavailability of 2378-chlorosubstituted congeners was in the range of 0.64%-21.9% (mean: 10.1%) from soil and 2.8%-59.8% (mean: 31.5%) when administered by solvent. The soil matrix reduced the bioavailability by about 70%. Expressed as I-TEq only 13.8% of the PCDD/F contamination were bioavailable from soil. The relative bioavailability of 2378-chlorosubstituted congeners from soil in relation to administration by solvent was in the range of 2%-42.2% (mean: 28.4%). When not considering the bioavailability, the risk by oral uptake of PCDD/F contaminated soil might be overestimated.  相似文献

Time series of polychlorinated dioxins and furans (PCDD/F) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) in ambient air of a large conurbation in North-Western Germany are presented and analyzed. The trend of PCDD/F concentrations, starting from as early as 1988, shows a pronounced decrease by at least one order of magnitude, demonstrating that the emission reductions were effective. The PCDD/F depositions also have decreased by a factor of 5 since 1992. However, both trends have leveled out since 2005. Time series of PCB concentrations and depositions starting in 1994 show only slight decreases for the concentrations and almost no decrease for the depositions. From the decay rates following first order kinetics, half-lives in the order of 5-15 years for the PCDD/F and 15-31 years for the sum of the six indicator PCB could be calculated, which are much longer than the half-lives estimated from their reactivity towards the OH radical. Apparently, small fresh emissions (PCDD/F), considerable secondary emissions and evaporation from contaminated soils slow down their decay in the atmosphere of big conurbations. Analyzing the decay rates of individual PCB congeners shows that the lower chlorinated and more volatile ones are removed faster than the higher chlorinated congeners, probably via gas phase reactions with the OH radical. It can be concluded from the present study that the input of PCDD/F and PCB into the food chain via the air path will continue for another one or two decades in big conurbations.  相似文献

Survey of PCDD/Fs and non-ortho PCBs in UK sewage sludges   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Stevens J  Green NJ  Jones KC 《Chemosphere》2001,44(6):1455-1462
A survey of PCDD/F and non-ortho PCB concentrations in the mesophilic, anaerobically digested sludge of 14 UK wastewater treatment works was carried out. The range of total Cl1-Cl8DD/F concentrations in the sludges was 8880-428000 pg/g dw with a median of 23300 pg/g dw. The concentrations of the three non-ortho PCBs were in the range 272-63000 pg/g dw with a median of 695 pg/g dw. The PCDD/F I-TEQs of the sludges studied were comparable to those published in the literature with a range of 20-225 pg I-TEQ/g dw and a median of 40.4 pg/g dw. The non-ortho PCBs usually added 2-7 pg/g to the total TEQ with one notable exception which increased the TEQ value 20-fold. With three exceptions, the PCDD/F content of the sludges fell well below the draft EU limit values proposed on 27 April 2000. The homologue group pattern of the PCDD/Fs is dominated by the HpCDDs and OCDD and is consistent with that found in most sewage sludges. There appears to be no correlation between the degree of industrial input and the PCDD/F concentration. This suggests that trade effluent is not always the most significant source of PCDD/Fs to wastewater in the UK.  相似文献

In 1978-1979, a mass poisoning occurred in central Taiwan from rice-bran oil contaminated by heat-degraded PCBs was later called the Yucheng (oil disease in Chinese). Only a few studies have so far investigated the levels of specific polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) or polychlorinated dibenzodioxin/furan (PCDD/F) congeners in the Yucheng victims. This study aimed to investigate the serum residual levels of thirty-three PCBs and seventeen 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/F congeners in the Yucheng victims 15 years after the exposure. Forty-one blood samples were collected from individual Yucheng victims in 1994-1995. The mean levels of total 33 PCBs and 17 PCDD/Fs were 2468 ng/g lipid (13.3 ng/g sample) and 6550 pg/g lipid (30.9 pg/g sample) respectively. The higher levels were found in PCBs #99, #138, #153, #156, #170, #179, and #180 among 33 PCB congeners, while 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF, 1,2,3,4,7,8-HxCDF, and OCDD had the higher concentrations among 17 PCDD/F congeners. The total TEQ was contributed in decreasing order by 10 PCDFs (44%), three non-ortho-PCBs (24%), six mono-ortho-PCBs (20%), and seven PCDDs (12%). The mean total PCB levels and TEQ value of the 17 PCDD/Fs in the Yucheng victims 15 years after the toxic exposure were still 9 and 46 times higher than those in the general population in Taiwan. Principle component analysis (PCA) indicated that seven PCB congeners, PCBs #99, #138, #153, #156, #170, #179, and #180, accounted for 73% of the total variances in PCBs. On the other hand, six PCDD/F congeners, 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF, 1,2,3,4,7,8-HxCDF, 1,2,3,6,7,8-HxCDF, 1,2,3,6,7,8-HxCDD, 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-HpCDF, and OCDD, accounted for 97% of the total variances in PCDD/Fs. In addition, PCA revealed that at least three characteristic patterns of congener profiles for PCBs were observed among the Yucheng victims. Similar trend was also observed for PCDD/Fs. These patterns may reflect distinctive exposure scenarios and/or different metabolizing capabilities among the Yucheng victims. We suggest that these patterns, in contrast to total PCB and PCDD/F levels, may be valuable for the future epidemiologic studies when linking exposure with specific health effect.  相似文献

Levels and specific profiles of PCDD/F congeners were determined in bivalve mollusc coming from several Rías (estuarine bays) in Galicia (Spanish northwest Atlantic coast). Three species of bivalve mollusc, Mytilus galloprovincialis, Cerstoderma edulis and Ostrea edulis, from several points of littoral collected in the period from 2000 to 2005 were analysed. WHO-TEQ concentrations ranged from 0.08 to 1.62pgg(-1) wet weight, values below the maximum concentration established by the EU. The PCDD/PCDF congeners profile in the studied samples was dominated by 2,3,7,8-TCDF and 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF. The possible influence between biometric parameters (fat and condition index) and the culture type of mussel (wild or raft) on PCDDs and PCDFs levels were studied using statistical analysis. The coefficients of Pearson product-moment correlation indicated the existence of positive significant relationship between 2,3,7,8-TCDF and 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF levels and fat content. There was not correlation between condition index and PCDD/Fs content. ANOVA also revealed there were significant differences between summation operatorPCDD/Fs, 2,3,7,8-TCDF and 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF levels in raft and wild mussels. Spatial and temporal trends were supported by patterns in ANOVA, using a general linear model (GLM) showing a clear separation in the composition of these compounds in more and less contaminated Rías and a decrease of PCDD/FS levels along the years.  相似文献

MSWI fly ash is susceptible to contain high amount of polychlorinated dibenzo-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzo-furans. However, the use of MSWI residue for road construction started in France at a period when MSWI Bottom Ash and MSWI fly ash were not separated. From four old road sites, MSWI residue, road soils, reference soils and geo-textiles were sampled and their PCDD/F contents were analyzed. MSWI residue show a great heterogeneity but also high amounts of PCDD/F (14-2960 ng I-TEQ kg(-1)dm). Soils underlying the road show less heterogeneity and PCDD/F contents between 0.57 and 7.23 ng I-TEQ kg(-1)dm, lower than ordinary soils. Moreover, the specific analysis of the 17 toxic PCDD/F congeners (notably the 2,3,7,8-TetraCDD) indicates the very low harmfulness of road soils. The study also allows to assert the relation between the MSWI residue particle size and the PCDD/F content.  相似文献

PCDD/F levels in food and canteen meals from southern Germany   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Mayer R 《Chemosphere》2001,43(4-7):857-860
Analysis of food samples collected in 1997 and 1998 in Bavaria, Germany showed that PCDD/F levels in food of animal origin, with the exception of fish, have decreased to low levels way below 1 pg I-TEQ/g fat. Lowest PCDD/F contents were found in pork (mean: 0.27 pg I-TEQ/g fat) followed by poultry and cow's milk (mean: approx. 0.5 pg I-TEQ/g fat). Average contamination levels determined in beef and eggs lay in the range from 0.7 to 0.8 pg I-TEQ/g fat. PCDD/F levels in fish were clearly higher than levels in meat, milk and egg samples (mean: 5.6 pg I-TEQ/g fat). Comparison of topical levels with former results from Bavaria show that the recently detected decline of contamination of food has continued during the past few years. In addition to investigations of unprepared food, we analysed prepared canteen meals over a period of 1 year. The average PCDD/F level found in canteen food (0.37 pg I-TEQ/g fat) was in good conformity with determined PCDD/F levels in unprepared food regarding the estimated fat composition of prepared meals. The average consumption of fat per meal via canteen food was 21.1 g and the average PCDD/F intake per meal was 7.6 pg I-TEQ. On the supposition that determined PCDD/F levels in canteen food on fat basis are representative of total fat consumed by humans (102 g fat/day), the daily PCDD/F intake would amount to a mean value of 36.7 pg I-TEQ corresponding to 0.52 pg I-TEQ/kg body weight.  相似文献

A large pentachlorophenol (PCP)-manufacturing plant located in southwestern Taiwan operated between 1965 and 1982. The present study was conducted to ascertain whether an increased body burden of dioxins existed in pregnant women living in an area of Tainan city contaminated by chemicals from this plant. Twenty-eight pregnant subjects, 21-39 years of age and residing in the study area between March and December of 2004 with a mean dwelling time of 6.07+/-6.11 years, were recruited. Concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in serum of recruited residents were determined. Pregnant women residing in the study area >3 years had significantly higher PCDD (7.48 versus 5.13 pg-toxic equivalents [TEQ]/g-lipid) and dioxin-like PCB (6.70 versus 3.74 pg-TEQ/g-lipid) values as compared to those residing < or = 3 years. Furthermore, dioxin concentrations increased with increasing dwelling time. Statistical analyses performed according to demographic characteristics and socioeconomic and dietary habits revealed that total TEQ values were significantly associated with fish consumption and smoking status. Dioxin congeners with greater degrees of chlorine substitution (e.g., HpCDD/F and OCDD/F) partitioned to greater degrees in the subjects of this study as compared to subjects in the general Taiwanese population. The findings of this study strongly implicate the activity of the PCP manufacturing plant in the observed increase in dioxin body burden. Investigation of the health consequences of this increased body burden is recommended.  相似文献
