This paper discusses the degradation kinetics of mixed (lindane, methyl parathion and carbofuran) pesticides by mixed pesticide enriched cultures (MEC) under various environmental conditions. The bacterial strains isolated from the mixed microbial consortium were identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 9236), Bacillus sp. (MTCC 9235) and Chryseobacterium joostei (MTCC 9237). Batch studies were conducted to estimate the biokinetic parameters like the maximum specific growth rate (μmax), Yield Coefficient (YT), half saturation concentration (Ks) and inhibition concentration (Ki) for individual and mixed pesticide enriched cultures. The cultures enriched in a particular pollutant always showed high growth rate and low inhibition in that particular pollutant compared to MEC. After seven weeks of incubation, mixed pesticide enriched cultures were able to degrade 72% lindane, 95% carbofuran and 100% of methyl parathion in facultative co-metabolic conditions. In aerobic systems, degradation efficiencies of lindane methyl parathion and carbofuran were increased by the addition of 2g L? 1 of dextrose. Though many metabolic compounds of mixed pesticides were observed at different time intervals, none of the metabolites were persistent. Based on the observed metabolites, a degradation pathway was postulated for different pesticides under various environmental conditions.  相似文献

In the present study, we isolated three novel bacterial species, namely, Staphylococcus sp., Bacillus circulans-I, and Bacillus circulans-II, from contaminated soil collected from the premises of a pesticide manufacturing industry. Batch experiments were conducted using both mixed and pure cultures to assess their potential for the degradation of aqueous endosulfan in aerobic and facultative anaerobic condition. The influence of supplementary carbon (dextrose) source on endosulfan degradation was also examined. After four weeks of incubation, mixed bacterial culture was able to degrade 71.82 +/- 0.2% and 76.04 +/- 0.2% of endosulfan in aerobic and facultative anaerobic conditions, respectively, with an initial endosulfan concentration of 50 mg l(-1). Addition of dextrose to the system amplified the endosulfan degradation efficiency by 13.36 +/- 0.6% in aerobic system and 12.33 +/- 0.6% in facultative anaerobic system. Pure culture studies were carried out to quantify the degradation potential of these individual species. Among the three species, Staphylococcus sp. utilized more beta endosulfan compared to alpha endosulfan in facultative anaerobic system, whereas Bacillus circulans-I and Bacillus circulans-II utilized more alpha endosulfan compared to beta endosulfan in aerobic system. In any of these degradation studies no known intermediate metabolites of endosulfan were observed.  相似文献

A novel mixed bacterial culture was enriched from an endosulfan (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10 - hexachloro-1, 5, 5a, 6, 9, 9a-hexahydro-6, 9-methano-2, 3, 4-benzo (e) dioxathiepin-3-oxide) processing industrial surface soil. The cultures were successful in the degradation of aqueous phase endosulfan in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Using the cultures, endosulfan degradation in silty gravel with sand (GM) was examined via pilot scale reactor at an endosulfan concentration of 0.78 +/- 0.01 mg g(- 1) of soil, and optimized moisture content of 40 +/- 1%. During operation, vertical spatial variability in endosulfan degradation was observed within the reactor. At the end of 56 days, maximum endosulfan degradation efficiency of 78 +/- 0.2% and 86.91 +/- 0.2% was observed in the top and bottom portion of the reactor, respectively. Both aerobic and anaerobic conditions were observed within the reactor. However, endosulfan degradation was predominant in anaerobic condition and the total protein concentration in the reactor was declined progressively down the soil depth. Throughout the study, no known intermediate metabolites of endosulfan reported by previous researchers were observed.  相似文献

Lindane (1α, 2α, 3β, 4α, 5α, 6β-hexachloro cyclohexane), methyl parathion (O,O-dimethyl-O-4-nitrophenyl phosphorothioate) and dichlorvos (2,2-dichlorovinyl-O-O-dimethyl phosphate) are removed from water individually and as a mixture by photo degradation using suspended and immobilized forms of TiO2 (Degussa P-25). Studies were conducted to optimize the coating thickness of immobilized photo catalyst. The rate of degradation of pesticides was compared in both suspended and immobilized TiO2 systems. Degradation studies of mixed pesticides were carried out with low concentrations (1.0 and 2.5 mg/L) of pesticides. Only three intermediate byproducts such as methyl paraoxon, O,O,O-trimethyl phosphonic thionate and p-nitrophenol were observed during the methyl parathion degradation in suspended, immobilized TiO2 systems and mixed pesticides degradation studies. At the end of the reaction methyl parathion and its by-products were completely degraded. During lindane degradation hexachloro cyclohexane, pentachloro cyclohexane, hexachloro benzene, 1-hydroxy 2,3,4,5,6-chlorocyclohexane, 1-hydroxy 2,3,4,5,6-chlorobenzene, pentachloro cyclopentadiene, 1,2,3,4,5-hydroxy cyclopentene and 1,2,3-hydroxy cyclobutane were identified in suspended and immobilized TiO2 systems, whereas only hexachloro cyclohexane, pentachloro cyclohexane, hexachloro benzene and pentachloro cyclopentadiene were observed during mixed pesticides degradation. No intermediate by-product was observed during the photo degradation of dichlorvos. Langmuir-Hinshelwood pseudo first order kinetic equation showed that there was not much change in the rates of degradation in both suspended and immobilized TiO2 systems irrespective of the pesticide. During mixed pesticides degradation, the degradation pattern was not similar to that of single pesticide.  相似文献

Highly stable Fe-Pd bimetallic nanoparticles were prepared with 0.2% (w/w) of sodium carboxylmethylcellulose (CMC) as a stabilizer. The effectiveness of the stabilized Fe-Pd nanoparticles was studied for degradation of two chlorinated pesticides (lindane and atrazine) under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Batch kinetic tests showed that under anaerobic condition the nanoparticles can serve as strong electron donors and completely reduce 1 mgl(-1) of lindane at an iron dose of 0.5 gl(-1) or 1mg l(-1) of atrazine with 0.05 gl(-1) iron with a trace amount (0.05-0.8% of Fe) of Pd as a catalyst. In contrast, under aerobic condition, the nanoparticles can facilitate Fenton-like reactions, which lead to oxidation of 65% of lindane under otherwise identical conditions. Under aerobic condition, the presence of CMC reduced the level of hydroxyl radicals generated from the nanoparticels by nearly 50%, and thus, inhibited the oxidation of the contaminants. While the particle stabilization greatly enhanced the anaerobic degradation, it did not appear to be beneficial under aerobic condition. The degradation rate was progressively enhanced as the Pd content increased from 0.05% to 0.8% of Fe, and the catalytic effect of Pd was more significant under anaerobic condition. Under anaerobic condition, lindane is degraded via dihaloelimination and dehydrohalogenation, whereas atrazine is by reductive dechlorination followed by subsequent reductive dealkylation. Under aerobic condition, reactive oxygen species and hydroxyl radicals from the iron nanoparticles are responsible for oxidizing the pesticides. Lindane is oxidized via dechlorination/dehydrohalogenation, whereas atrazine is destroyed through dealkylation of the alkylamino side chain.  相似文献

This review evaluates and summarizes the results of long-term research projects, monitoring programs and published papers concerning the pollution of surface waters (rivers and lakes) of Greece by pesticides. Pesticide classes mostly detected involve herbicides used extensively in corn, cotton and rice production, organophosphorus insecticides as well as the banned organochlorines insecticides due to their persistence in the aquatic environment. The compounds most frequently detected were atrazine, simazine, alachlor, metolachlor and trifluralin of the herbicides, diazinon, parathion methyl of the insecticides and lindane, endosulfan and aldrin of the organochlorine pesticides. Rivers were found to be more polluted than lakes. The detected concentrations of most pesticides follow a seasonal variation, with maximum values occurring during the late spring and summer period followed by a decrease during winter. Nationwide, in many cases the reported concentrations ranged in low ppb levels. However, elevated concentrations were recorded in areas of high pesticide use and intense agricultural practices. Generally, similar trends and levels of pesticides were found in Greek rivers compared to pesticide contamination in other European rivers. Monitoring of the Greek water resources for pesticide residues must continue, especially in agricultural regions, because the nationwide patterns of pesticide use are constantly changing. Moreover, emphasis should be placed on degradation products not sufficiently studied so far.  相似文献

The PAH metabolites produced during degradation of fluorene, phenanthrene and pyrene by a bacterial consortium enriched from mangrove sediments were analyzed using the on-fiber silylation solid-phase microextraction (SPME) combining with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) method. Seventeen metabolites at trace levels were identified in different PAH degradation cultures based on the full scan mass spectra. In fluorene degradation cultures, 1-, 2-, 3- and 9-hydroxyfluorene, fluorenone, and phthalic acid were detected. In phenanthrene and pyrene degradation cultures, various common metabolites such as phenanthrene and pyrene dihydrodiols, mono-hydroxy phenanthrene, dihydroxy pyrene, lactone and 4-hydroxyphenanthrene, methyl ester, and phthalic acid were found. The detection of various common and novel metabolites demonstrates that SPME combining with GC–MS is a quick and convenient method for identification as well as monitoring the real time changes of metabolite concentrations throughout the degradation processes. The knowledge of PAH metabolic pathways and kinetics within indigenous bacterial consortium enriched from mangrove sediments contributes to enhance the bioremediation efficiency of PAH in real environment.  相似文献

The electro-Fenton process was used to assess the degradation of methyl parathion (MP) in aqueous solutions. This oxidation process allows the production of hydroxyls radicals which react on the organic compounds, leading to their mineralization. Degradation experiments were performed either in perchloric, sulphuric, hydrochloric and nitric acid media under current controlled electrolysis conditions at different pH. The pH effect as well as the nature of the medium (i.e., the nature of the ions present in medium) on the degradation and mineralization efficiency were studied. The mineralization of the initial pollutant was investigated by total organic carbon measurements which show a complete mineralization at pH 3 in perchloric medium. The absolute rate constant of MP hydroxylation reaction was determined as (4.20+/-0.11)x10(9)M(-1)s(-1). Complete degradation of MP and its metabolites occur in less than 45min. Degradation reaction intermediates such as aromatic compounds, carboxylic acids and inorganic ions were identified and a mineralization pathway is proposed.  相似文献

The effect of soil redox conditions on the degradation of metolachlor and metribuzin in two Mississippi soils (Forrestdale silty clay loam and Loring silt loam) were examined in the laboratory. Herbicides were added to soil in microcosms and incubated either under oxidized (aerobic) or reduced (anaerobic) conditions. Metolachlor and metribuzin degradation under aerobic condition in the Forrestdale soil proceeded at rates of 8.83 ngd(-1) and 25 ngd(-1), respectively. Anaerobic degradation rates for the two herbicides in the Forestdale soil were 8.44 ngd(-1) and 32.5 ngd(-1), respectively. Degradation rates for the Loring soil under aerobic condition were 24.8 ngd(-1) and 12.0 ngd(-1) for metolachlor and metribuzin, respectively. Metolachlor and metribuzin degradation rates under anaerobic conditions in the Loring soil were 20.9 ngd(-1) and 5.35 ngd(-1). Metribuzin degraded faster (12.0 ngd(-1)) in the Loring soil under aerobic conditions as compared to anaerobic conditions (5.35 ngd(-1)).  相似文献

The effect of environmental parameters (temperature and relative humidity) on the degradation rate of azinphos methyl and parathion methyl was studied. Proprietary emulsifiable concentrates were diluted and added to each of 90 glass Petri dishes for each pesticide and were left overnight to dry. Petri dishes were placed in 18 air-tight containers (9 for each pesticide) in which were created environments with relative humidity (RH) of 60, 82, and 96%. The containers were stored at 0, 20, and 40 degrees C. From the experimental results best fit curves, kinetic equations, rate constants, and half-lives were calculated. Half-lives of azinphos methyl for the RH studied were, from 124 to 267 days at 0 degrees C, from 89 to 231 days at 20 degrees C, and from 25 to 71 days at 40 degrees C. Corresponding half-lives for parathion methyl were from 48 to 57 days at 0 degrees C, from 9.2 to 10.5 days at 20 degrees C and from 1.3 to 1.5 days at 40 degrees C. The results were correlated with relevant results from the decomposition of the same or similar pesticides on apples both, on the trees and during refrigerated storage. These correlations are suggesting that biological factors strongly affected the decomposition rate of azinphos methyl. On the contrary the decomposition of parathion methyl was mainly affected by environmental rather than biological factors.  相似文献

Previous studies have revealed that the mutagenicity of fenitrothion increases during anaerobic biodegradation, suggesting that this insecticide's mutagenicity could effectively increase after it pollutes anaerobic environments such as lake sediments. To investigate possible changes to the mutagenicity of fenitrothion under aerobic conditions after it had already been increased by anaerobic biodegradation, batch incubation cultures were maintained under aerobic conditions. The mutagenicity, which had increased during anaerobic biodegradation, decreased under aerobic conditions with aerobic or facultative bacteria, but did not disappear completely in 22 days. In contrast, it did not change under aerobic conditions without bacteria or under continued anaerobic conditions. These observations suggest that the mutagenicity of anaerobically metabolized fenitrothion would not necessarily decrease after it arrives in an aerobic environment: this would depend on the presence of suitable bacteria. Therefore, fenitrothion-derived mutagenic compounds may pollute the water environment, including our drinking water sources, after accidental pollution of aerobic waters. Although amino-fenitrothion generated during anaerobic biodegradation of fenitrothion was the principal mutagen, non-trivial contributions of other, unidentified metabolites to the mutagenicity were also observed.  相似文献

Gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane (gamma-HCH or lindane), one of the most commonly used insecticides, has been mainly used in agriculture. Organochloride compounds are known to be highly toxic and persistent, causing serious water and soil pollution. The objective of the present study is the evaluation of the anaerobic degradation of alpha-, beta-, gamma-, delta-HCH in liquid and slurry cultures. The slurry system with anaerobic sludge appears as an effective alternative in the detoxification of polluted soils with HCH, as total degradation of the four isomers was attained. While alpha- and gamma-HCH disappeared after 20-40d, the most recalcitrant isomers: beta- and delta-HCH were only degraded after 102d. Intermediate metabolites of HCH degradation as pentachlorocyclohexane (PCCH), tetrachlorocyclohexene (TCCH), tri-, di- and mono-chlorobenzenes were observed during degradation time.  相似文献

This laboratory study examined the interactions between an algal species found in wetlands (Selenastrum capricornutum) and two agricultural pesticides (atrazine and lindane). Pesticide additions had a positive effect on the chlorophyll a concentrations of the treatments. The presence of algae decreased the aqueous persistence of both pesticides. It is speculated that the algae either provided sites for pesticide sorption or facilitated pesticide degradation.  相似文献

The inclusion catalysis effects of -,β- and γ-cyclodextrins(CyDs) on the hydrolysis rate of parathion, methyl parathion and paraoxon were investigated at 25°C in alkaline buffer solution(pH=8.5) containing humic acids. The hydrolysis rate of these pesticides was increased by the presence of humic acids. The inclusion catalysis of β-CyD inhibited parathion hydrolysis but promoted paraoxon hydrolysis. The CyD inclusion catalysis showed characteristic correlation with relative magnitudes of the inclusion-depth parameters of the pesticides which could be determined by the rotational-strength analysis of the induced circular dichroism. The essential properties of the CyD inclusion catalysis were explained in terms of the geometries of the CyD-pesticide inclusion complexes which determine degree of the proximity between the pesticide reaction site and the CyD catalytic site.  相似文献

Three oxbow lakes in northwestern Mississippi, USA, an area of intensive agriculture, were assessed for biological impairment from historic and current-use pesticide contamination using the amphipod, Hyalella azteca. Surface water and sediment samples from three sites in each lake were collected from Deep Hollow, Beasley, and Thighman Lakes from September 2000 to February 2001. Samples were analyzed for 17 historic and current-use pesticides and selected metabolites. Ten-day H. azteca survival and growth (as length and dry weight) were measured to determine the degree of biological impairment. Maximum number of detectable pesticides in surface water from Deep Hollow, Beasley and Thighman Lakes was 10, 11, and 17, respectively. Maximum number of detectable pesticides in lake sediments was 17, 17, and 15, respectively. Bioassay results indicated no observable survival effects on H. azteca exposed to surface water or sediment from any lake examined and no growth impairment in animals exposed to lake sediments. However, growth was significantly impaired in surface water exposures from Deep Hollow Lake (2 sites) and Beasley Lake (1 site). Statistically significant relationships between growth impairment (length) and cyanazine, methyl parathion, λ-cyhalothrin, chlorfenapyr, and pp′DDE surface water concentrations in Deep Hollow Lake as well as trifluralin, atrazine, and methyl parathion in Beasley Lake were observed. Although pesticide frequency and concentrations were typically greater in sediment than surface water, bioassay results indicated decreased availability of these pesticides in sediment due to the presence of clay and organic carbon. Growth impairment observed in surface water exposures was likely due to complex interaction of pesticide mixtures that were present.  相似文献

The stereoselectivity of R,S-venlafaxine and its metabolites R,S-O-desmethylvenlafaxine, N-desmethylvenlafaxine, O,N-didesmethylvenlafaxine, N,N-didesmethylvenlafaxine and tridesmethylvenlafaxine was studied in three processes: (i) anaerobic and aerobic laboratory scale tests; (ii) six wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) operating under different conditions; and (iii) a variety of wastewater treatments including conventional activated sludge, natural attenuation along a receiving river stream and storage in operational and seasonal reservoirs. In the laboratory and field studies, the degradation of the venlafaxine yielded O-desmethylvenalfaxine as the dominant metabolite under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Venlafaxine was almost exclusively converted to O-desmethylvenlafaxine under anaerobic conditions, but only a fraction of the drug was transformed to O-desmethylvenlafaxine under aerobic conditions. Degradation of venlafaxine involved only small stereoisomeric selectivity. In contrast, the degradation of O-desmethylvenlafaxine yielded remarkable S to R enrichment under aerobic conditions but none under anaerobic conditions. Determination of venlafaxine and its metabolites in the WWTPs agreed well with the stereoselectivity observed in the laboratory studies. Our results suggest that the levels of the drug and its metabolites and the stereoisomeric enrichment of the metabolite and its parent drug can be used for source tracking and for discrimination between domestic and nondomestic wastewater pollution. This was indeed demonstrated in the investigations carried out at the Jerusalem WWTP.  相似文献
