Concentrations of ambient suspended particulates were measured at Tzu Yun Yen temple (120°, 34′ 10”E; 24°, 16′, 12”N), using a Universal sampler and dry deposition plates. The temple is a characteristic incense-burning and semi-open sampling site. PM2.5 concentrations for Period 1 (average 901μg/m3) were higher than those for Period 2 (average 701μg/m3). Results for average PM2.5-10concentrations showed equal distributions in Period 1 and Period 2. Average ratios of PM2.5/ PM10 were higher in Period 1 (74%) than Period 2 (71%). In addition, the suspended particulate (PM10) elements concentrations during Zhong Yuan Jie, and the first and 15th days of nong li for each month (Chinese lunar calendar) were all higher than during non-Zhong Yuan Jie and non-first and non-15th days. Furthermore, the dry deposition velocities of manganese in fine particulates (PM2.5) and suspended particulates (PM10) were 1.43 and 0.751cm/s, respectively, and the dry deposition velocities of cadmium in fine particulates (PM2.5) and suspended particulates (PM10) were 1.86 and 0.991cm/s, respectively.  相似文献

Atmospheric total suspended particulate concentrations and metallic element concentrations were measured at three locations, characteristic of urban, suburban and rural sites. The sampling period was from July 2000 to August 2000. The results indicated that the urban sampling site had the highest total suspended particulate concentrations (average 108.61μ1m3), followed by the suburban site (average 60.11μ1m3) and the rural site (average 53.31μ1m3). The average PM2.5 concentrations (24.11μ1m3) were higher than the PM2.5-10 concentrations (12.81μ1m3) at the urban site. The average distributed ratios for PM2.5/PM2.5-10 were about 1.29, 1.53, 0.12, 1.12 and 2.31 for Pb, Zn, Fe, Ni and Cr, respectively. The average total suspended particulate mass ratios for daytime and nighttime were about 1.72. As for the elements Cu, Pb, Zn, Fe, Ni and Cr, these ratios were about 0.63, 0.97, 0.54, 1.66, 0.53 and 1.12, respectively. The total suspended particulate daytime concentrations of Pb and Zn were positively correlated (R = 0.925) at the urban sampling site. The elements Ni and Cr were positively correlated both during the daytime (R = 0.648) and the nighttime (R = 0.511), revealing that they came from the same emission source during daytime and nighttime, at the urban sampling site.  相似文献

Aerosol samples for PM2.5, PM(2.5-10) and TSP were collected from June to September 1998 and from February to March 1999 in central Taiwan. Ion chromatography was used to analyze the acidic anions: sulfate, nitrate and chloride in the Universal samples. The ratios of fine particle concentrations to coarse particle concentrations displayed that the fine particle concentrations are almost greater than that of coarse particle concentrations in Taichung area. The average concentrations of PM2.5, PM(2.5-10) and TSP in urban sites are higher than in suburban and rural sites at both daytime and night-time. Chloride dominated in the coarse mode in daytime and in fine mode in night-time. Nitrate can be found in both the coarse and fine modes. Sulfate dominated in fine mode in both daytime and night-time.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to explore the possible reasons accounting for elevated nitrate aerosol levels during high particulate days (HPD) in Taichung urban area of central Taiwan. To achieve this goal, simultaneous measurements of particulate and gaseous pollutants were carried out from September 2004 to April 2005 using an annular denuder system (ADS). The formation rate of NO2 to nitrate aerosol, calculated using the relevant chemical reactions, was employed to interpret enhanced nitrate aerosol concentrations during HPD. The observations showed that nitrate concentration during HPD was 14 times higher than that during low particulate days (LPD). The average formation rate during HPD was 4.0% h?1, which was 3.1 times higher than that during LPD. The quantitative analysis showed that the formation rate was mainly influenced by temperature and relative humidity. Lower temperature and higher relative humidity led much nitrate aerosol formation in HPD. Moreover, the residence time analysis of air masses staying over the studied area showed that the slow-motion air retained high nitrate concentrations due to more nitrate aerosol converted from the precursors in NOx-rich areas.  相似文献

Light scattering data collected during two periods of intensive sampling in New York City (one during summer months and one during winter months) are discussed and analyzed for diurnal patterns, their relationship to pollutant emission sources, meteorological parameters, and the size distribution and chemical composition of the ambient aerosol. The lack of a diurnal pattern for light scattering in summer in combination with a strong positive association with ozone and wind direction dependency suggests that in summer the transport of an aged aerosol in photochemically rich air masses rather than local emissions of primary pollutants is largely responsible for the observed levels of light scattering in New York City.Winter levels of light scattering observed in New York City, while approx. 50% lower than summer levels, were much less dependant on wind direction and closely related to pollutant emissions from local sources. This suggests that locally generated aerosol dominates light scattering in the winter.Particles 0.1–1.3 μm in diameter were strongly correlated with light scattering in New York City during both summer and winter periods. However, a given volume of aerosol between 0.1 and 1.3 μm scattered more light in summer than in winter, indicating the fresher nature of the winter aerosol. Variance in dry particulate light scattering was found to principally account for light extinction variance (calculated from airport visibility observations) in summer and winter. Sulfate aerosol was strongly correlated with light scattering during both summer and winter periods.  相似文献

Ambient particle concentration was taken on the traffic sampling site over the Chung-Chi Road over bridge (CCROB) in front of Hungkuang Institute of Technology (HKIT). The sampling time was from August 1999 to December 1999. During the sampling period, Taiwan's biggest earthquake in more than a century registered 7.3 on the Richter scale (Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake). Besides, there were more than 20,000 aftershocks that followed the Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake within three months. Thus, the PM2.5, PM(2.5-10) particle concentrations were also collected then and compared with total suspended particle (TSP) in this study. The average PM(2.5-10), PM2.5 and TSP concentrations are 24.6, 58.0 and 106 microg/m3, respectively, after the Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake. The average TSP concentrations before and after Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake were 70 and 127 microg/m3, respectively. It is clearly shown that the average concentration of TSP after Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake was about 1.8 times as that of TSP concentration before Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake in the traffic site of central Taiwan. And the ratios of PM2.5/PM(2.5-10), PM2.5/PM10 and PM2.5/TSP are 2.2%, 67.2%, 38.9%, respectively. The results also indicated about Chi-Chi fine particle concentration (PM25) and the TSP increases in the traffic site of central Taiwan after Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake.  相似文献

In this study, ambient air samples were taken concurrently in the vicinity area of a large-scale municipal waste incinerator (MWI) and the background area for measuring polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) concentrations from November 1999 through July 2000 in northern Taiwan. The results obtained from eighteen ambient air samples indicate that the mean PCDD/F concentration of seventeen 2,3,7,8-substituted congeners in wintertime (188–348 fg-I-TEQ/m3) is significantly higher than that measured in summertime (56–166 fg-I-TEQ/m3). In addition, the seasonal PCDD/F concentrations are compared with the ambient air quality data including CO, NO2, PM10 and TSP sampled from Taipei area to gain better insights. It indicates that the variation of ambient air PCDD/F concentrations is closely correlated with that of PM10 concentrations. Besides, the results indicate that the I-TEQ concentration of ambient air in sampling site B (directly downwind of the MWI) is of the highest while the sampling site A (upwind of MWI) is of the lowest among all sampling sites. This implies that existing MWI can be a significant emitter of PCDD/Fs in this area. Furthermore, the patterns of the PCDD/F congener distribution at all sampling sites (including the background site in Taoyuan) are quite similar. OCDD concentration is of the highest among seventeen PCDD/F congeners investigated and accounts for about 35% of the total concentration. As for the I-TEQ concentrations, 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF is the most significant contributor, generally being responsible for 30–45% of the total I-TEQ values depending on the sampling sites and seasons.  相似文献

Organic carbon (OC), elemental carbon (EC), and 90 organic compounds (36 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons [PAHs], 25 n-alkane homologues, 17 hopanes, and 12 steranes) were concurrently quantified in atmospheric particulate matter of PM2.5 and PM10. The 24-hr PM samples were collected using Harvard Impactors at a suburban site in Doha, Qatar, from May to December 2015. The mass concentrations (mean ± standard deviation) of PM2.5 and PM10 were 40 ± 15 and 145 ± 70 µg m?3, respectively, exceeding the World Health Organization (WHO) air quality guidelines. Coarse particles comprised 70% of PM10. Total carbonaceous contents accounted for 14% of PM2.5 and 10% of PM10 particulate mass. The major fraction (90%) of EC was associated with the PM2.5. In contrast, 70% of OC content was found in the PM2.5–10 fraction. The secondary OC accounted for 60–68% of the total OC in both PM fractions, indicating photochemical conversions of organics are much active in the area due to higher air temperatures and solar radiations. Among the studied compounds, n-alkanes were the most abundant group, followed by PAHs, hopanes, and steranes. n-Alkanes from C25 to C35 prevailed with a predominance of odd carbon numbered congeners (C27–C31). High-molecular-weight PAHs (5–6 rings) also prevailed, within their class, with benzo[b + j]fluoranthene (Bb + jF) being the dominant member. PAHs were mainly (80%) associated with the PM2.5 fraction. Local vehicular and fugitive emissions were predominant during low-speed southeasterly winds from urban areas, while remote petrogenic/biogenic emissions were particularly significant under prevailing northwesterly wind conditions.

Implications: An unprecedented study in Qatar established concentration profiles of EC, OC, and 90 organic compounds in PM2.5 and PM10. Multiple tracer organic compounds for each source can be used for convincing source apportionment. Particle concentrations exceeded WHO air quality guidelines for 82–96% of the time, revealing a severe problem of atmospheric PM in Doha. Dominance of EC and PAHs in fine particles signifies contributions from combustion sources. Dependence of pollutants concentrations on wind speed and direction suggests their significant temporal and spatial variability, indicating opportunities for improving the air quality by identifying sources of airborne contaminants.  相似文献

Previous studies have suggested that the ongoing global climate change will likely increase the intensity and frequency of extreme weather, such as typhoons. Since the beginning of global warming, it has become necessary to understand the influence of typhoons on air quality. Rare data, especially particulate measurements data could be used to establish the relationship between the air pollution and typhoons. One of main limiting factors is that most of the previous chemical analyses of particulates used a relatively long sampling time, which could dilute the temporal impact of particulate characteristics and their sources. This work, depending more time-resolved measurements, focus on the characteristics and sources of high particulate matter levels and the influence of typhoons and the Pacific high system. Depending on the measurements, two pollutant groups were clearly identified in this work. The first pollutant group was the emissions from neighboring riverbeds under the strong circulation of the typhoon in the driest season and characterized as high coarse particle concentrations with high mass fraction of Ca2+. The second pollutant group was characterized as the formation and transport of secondary particles with prevalent ions of NH4+, NO3?, and SO42? and occurred in the sea-land breeze circulation under the influence the Pacific high system.  相似文献

Approximately 750 total suspended particulates (TSPs) and coarse particulate matter (PM10) filter samples from six urban sites and a background site and >210 source samples were collected in Jiaozuo City during January 2002 to April 2003. They were analyzed for mass and abundances of 25 chemical components. Seven contributive sources were identified, and their contributions to ambient TSP/PM10 levels at the seven sites in three seasons (spring, summer, and winter days) and a "whole" year were estimated by a chemical mass balance (CMB) receptor model. The spatial TSP average was high in spring and winter days at a level of approximately 530 microg/m(3) and low in summer days at 456 microg/m(3); however, the spatial PMo0 average exhibited little variation at a level of approximately 325 microg/m(3), and PM10-to-TSP ratios ranged from 0.58 to 0.81, which suggested heavy particulate matter pollution existing in the urban areas. Apportionment results indicated that geological material was the largest contributor to ambient TSP/PM10 concentrations, followed by dust emissions from construction activities, coal combustion, secondary aerosols, vehicle movement, and other industrial sources. In addition, paved road dust and re-entrained dust were also apportioned to the seven source types and found soil, coal combustion, and construction dust to be the major contributors.  相似文献

Concentrations and distributions of elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) in particles were measured in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. PM10 and PM2.5 samples were collected using a dichotomous sampler from November 1998 to April 1999 and were analyzed for carbonaceous species with an elemental analyzer. The concentrations of carbonaceous species in Kaohsiung City were comparable to those at other urban locations in the world. On average, carbonaceous species accounted for 21.2% of the PM2.5 and 18.1% of the PM10. It was found that organic carbon dominated the carbonaceous species and was 72.2 and 70.4% of total carbon (TC) for PM2.5 and PM10. The secondary organic carbon formed through the volatile organic compound gas-to-particle conversion was estimated from the minimum ratio between elemental and organic carbon obtained in this study, and was found to constitute 40.0 and 32.4% of the total organic carbon particle for PM2.5 and PM10 (or 6.6 and 4.5% of the total particle mass).  相似文献

In this study, ambient air samples from different atmospheric environments were examined for both PBDE and PCDD/F characteristics to verify that combustion is a significant PBDE emission source. The mean ± SD atmospheric PBDE concentrations were 165 ± 65.0 pg Nm−3 in the heavy steel complex area and 93.9 ± 24.5 pg Nm−3 in the metals complex areas, 4.7 and 2.7 times higher than that (35.3 ± 15.5 pg Nm−3) in the urban areas, respectively. The statistically high correlation (r = 0.871, p < 0.001) found between the atmospheric PBDE and PCDD/F concentrations reveals that the combustion sources are the most likely PBDE emission sources. Correspondence analysis shows the atmospheric PBDEs of the heavy steel and metals complex areas are associated with BDE-209, -203, -207, -208, indicative of combustion source contributions. Furthermore, the PBDEs in urban ambient air experience the influence of the evaporative releases of the commercial penta- and octa-BDE mixtures, as well as combustion source emissions. By comparing the PBDE homologues of indoor air, urban ambient air, and stack flue gases of combustion sources, we found that the lighter brominated PBDEs in urban ambient air were contributed by the indoor air, while their highly brominated ones were from the combustion sources, such as vehicles. The developed source identification measure can be used to clarify possible PBDE sources not only for Taiwanese atmosphere but also for other environmental media in other countries associated with various emission sources in the future.  相似文献

The total suspended particle (TSP) concentration, dry deposition and wind speed were measured with a PS-1 sampler, a dry deposition plate and a Weather Monitor II (#7440), respectively, at the Experimental Farm of Thunghai University in Taiwan. Taiching Industrial Park, Taichung Cong Road (traffic) and a hospital incinerator are close to the sampling site. The sampling time was from August 2001 to December 2001. The average dry deposition flux, the TSP concentration, dry deposition velocities, average wind speed and maximum wind speed were recorded as 617.7 ± 281.4 mg/day/m2, 117.5 ± 17.6 μg/m3, 5.9 ± 2.2 cm/s, 2.7 ± 1.3 m/s and 7.6 ± 2.3 m/s, respectively, at this sampling site. Good correlation coefficients (R) of the TSP concentration and the dry deposition flux with wind speed were found, with values of 0.46 and 0.50, respectively. The concentrations and dry deposition of the total metallic elements were also obtained. The results indicated that the concentrations of anthropogenic elements (Pb, Mn, Cd, Ni, Cr and Zn) were mostly higher than those obtained in other studies around the world. The average dry deposition fluxes and TSP concentrations for Zn and Pb were 0.45 and 0.42, respectively. The same phenomenon was also observed for Fe and Mg (R = 0.59 and 0.65). The results indicate that these elements were all coming from the same emission sources at the farm sampling site.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the temporal and spatial distributions, compositions, and determinants of ambient aeroallergens in Taipei, Taiwan, a subtropical metropolis. We monitored ambient culturable fungi in Shin-Jhuang City, an urban area, and Shi-Men Township, a rural area, in Taipei metropolis from 2003 to 2004. We collected ambient fungi in the last week of every month during the study period, using duplicate Burkard portable samplers and Malt Extract Agar. The median concentration of total fungi was 1339 colony-forming units m−3 of air over the study period. The most prevalent fungi were non-sporulating fungi, Cladosporium, Penicillium, Curvularia and Aspergillus at both sites. Airborne fungal concentrations and diversity of fungal species were generally higher in urban than in rural areas. Most fungal taxa had significant seasonal variations, with higher levels in summer. Multivariate analyses showed that the levels of ambient fungi were associated positively with temperature, but negatively with ozone and several other air pollutants. Relative humidity also had a significant non-linear relationship with ambient fungal levels. We concluded that the concentrations and the compositions of ambient fungi are diverse in urban and rural areas in the subtropical region. High ambient fungal levels were related to an urban environment and environmental conditions of high temperature and low ozone levels.  相似文献

Daily average concentrations of fine and coarse particulates, and TSP samples have been measured simultaneously at daytime and night-time periods by using Universal and PS-1 sampler in a suburban area of central Taiwan from June to August 1998. The samples were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry to determine the fine and coarse particulate concentrations of metallic elements (Ca, Fe, Mn, Pb, Cu, Zn and Cr). The concentration of PM2.5 and TSP showed a decreased trend for the daytime period. The fine particle concentrations were about two times as that of coarse particulate concentrations. The averaged fine particulate concentrations at daytime are higher than at night-time. Ca and Fe were mostly in the coarse particulate mode. The correlation coefficients were 0.63 and 0.69 for elements Ca and Fe in the coarse particle mode for day and night periods. Pb showed a similar distribution ratio with Mn for the fine to coarse particle ratios at both day and night period. Pb and Mn are highly correlated for the day (R = 0.78) and night period (R = 0.61) at particle size <2.5 microm. Cu and Zn were mainly in fine particles at both day and night period. Fe and Ca consist of the major parts of all the elements. Elemental Mn is the lowest among the rest of the heavy metals.  相似文献

Frequent high ozone days (defined as daily maximum ozone concentration ⩾80 ppb) during recent years in the Taichung Basin have caused much concern. High ozone days occur mainly during autumn and spring. Statistically, there is no clear linear relationship between a single meteorological variable and ozone concentration. In this study, data from 1996–2000 has shown that high ozone concentrations occur during two types of synoptic weather patterns. The first type is a continental cyclone emanating from mainland China, the southern part of it swept towards Taiwan by easterly winds. The second pattern is a tropical depression moving northwards toward the region, the northern part of it affecting Taiwan via easterly winds. Both types cover Taiwan with easterly winds, which are blocked by the Central Mountain Ranges (altitude of 2000–3000 m). The ranges create lee cyclogenesis to the west, which is unfavorable for pollutant dispersion and leads to serious air pollution episodes. The statistical results of the synoptic weather patterns in relation to ozone concentrations are based on the 5 yr data (1996–2000). This was obtained from a network of air-pollution monitoring sites in the study area, while the vertical data come from two 3-day tethersonde experimental campaigns conducted during March and October 2000, measuring air pressure, air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, non-methane hydrocarbons, NOx and O3.  相似文献

Ambient air dust samples were collected from industrial, commercial and residential areas of four metropolitan cities (Delhi, Calcutta, Madras and Cochin) in India, and were analysed for 27 elements (As, Ba, Br, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Cu, Eu, Hf, Hg, Fe, Ga, La, Lu, Na, P, Sb, Sc, Se, Sr, Ta, Tb, Th, Rb, Yb and Zn) by Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA). Samples were irradiated with thermal neutrons in a nuclear reactor for 1 day and counted by high resolution gamma spectrometry at different intervals. Several environmental standards such as Coal (SRM 1932b); Urban Particulate Matter (SRM 1648) from NIST, USA; Vehicle Exhaust from NIES, Japan; and Soil-5 from IAEA, Vienna were also analysed for quality assurance. The results reveal that the concentrations of several pollutant elements in dust samples from the four cities are highly variable. Wide differences were observed for elemental concentrations of As, Ba, Br, Cu, Cr, Hg, Fe, Sb, Se and Zn and these variations are explained in terms of their possible sources of origin.  相似文献

Air aerosol samples for TSP (total suspended particulate), coarse particulate (particle matter with aerodynamical diameter 2.5–10 μm, PM2.5–10), fine particulate (particle matter with aerodynamical diameter <2.5 μm, PM2.5) and metallic elements were collected during March 2004 to January 2005 at TH (Taichung Harbor) in central Taiwan. The seasonal variation average concentration of TSP (total suspended particulate), coarse particulate (particle matter with aerodynamical diameter 2.5–10 μm, PM2.5–10) and fine particulate (particle matter with aerodynamical diameter <2.5 μm, PM2.5) were in the range 132–171.1 μg m−3 and 43–49.5 μg m−3, respectively. Seasonal variation of metallic elements Cu, Mn, Zn and Fe in the TSP (total suspended particulate) shows that higher concentration was observed during spring. Seasonal variation of metallic elements Pb, Cr and Mg in the TSP (total suspended particulate) shows that higher concentration was observed during winter. The average metallic element TSP (total suspended particulate) concentration order was Fe > Zn > Mg > Cu > Cr > Mn > Pb in spring. In addition, at the TH sampling site, the average concentration variation of TSP (total suspended particulate) displayed the following order: spring > winter > autumn > summer. However, the average concentration variation of coarse particulate (particle matter with aerodynamical diameter 2.5–10 μm, PM2.5–10) displayed the following order: spring > winter > summer > autumn. Finally, the average concentration variations of fine particulate (particle matter with aerodynamical diameter <2.5 μm, PM2.5) were in the following order: winter > spring > summer > autumn at the TH sample site.  相似文献
