Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to evaluate the effect of additives for enhancing the aerobic biodegradation of trichloroethylene (TCE). The parameters investigated include the initial TCE concentration, addition of extra bacteria, use of toluene as an inducer and hydrogen peroxide as terminal electron acceptor (TEA). Without additive, degradation efficiencies of >or=80% were obtained for TCE concentrations<700 mg/L. According to the second-order polynomial RSM and biodegradation results, the use of toluene to induce enzyme production inhibited degradation at TCE concentrations<300 mg/L. The addition of hydrogen peroxide did improve the overall degradation efficiency but decreased the degradation rate. The RSM model for toluene, extra bacteria and TEA predicted that the best approach to optimize degradation of high TCE concentrations is to ensure adequate population in conjunction with supplemental TEA.  相似文献

Persistent organochlorine pesticides pollutants (OCPs) have been reported to occur at relatively high concentrations in some Chinese waters. In order to map the distribution of organochlorine pesticides in the surface water throughout China, samples were collected from over 600 sites in seven major river basins and three main internal rivers drainage areas during 2003 and 2004. The surface water samples were analyzed for the representative organochlorine pesticides contaminants including lindane (gamma-HCH), p,p'-DDT and heptachlor epoxide. In general, the most frequently detected compound was lindane, being detected in 83.9% of samples (mean=31.3 ng/l; range <0.17-860 ng/l), and the highest concentration was present in the Yellow River basin. p,p'-DDT was detected in 63.1% of the samples collected (mean=14.6 ng/l; range <0.14-368 ng/l) with the highest concentration present in the Huaihe River basin. Heptachlor epoxide was detected in only 9.3% of water samples (range <0.11-10 ng/l). Measured concentrations for the three compounds were low and rarely exceed the environment quality standard for surface water of China. Lindane was more frequently detected at much higher concentrations in the rivers of northern China compared with those of southern China. The sites with higher concentration of lindane and p,p'-DDT mainly occurred in the Yellow River and Huaihe River basins, so the results of this investigation indicate that the organochlorine pesticide contamination of Yellow River and Huaihe River basins should be of particular concern relative to the other basins. When compared with other regions of the world, it appears that the Chinese surface water is moderately polluted by lindane and p,p'-DDT.  相似文献

Daily intake of lead, cadmium, aluminium, radiocaesium, DDT and metabolites, and lindane in the whole-day food rations collected in hospital canteens in Kraków, ?ód?, Olsztyn and Poznań in winters of 1993-1994, 1995 and 1996 were determined. The diets contained almost 40 microg of cadmium, corresponding to 70% of PTWI, and compared to the levels recognised as safe (ADI or PTWI) small amounts of the other contaminants. The highest content of Pb, Cd, Al and lindane was determined in the diets collected in Kraków, that of radiocaesium in ?ód?, and DDT level was the highest in Poznań. The whole-day food rations from Olsztyn, situated in a region called "green lungs of Poland", were not statistically less contaminated than the diets from the other towns. The Pb and radiocaesium levels decreased significantly with time.  相似文献

Desorption and biodegradation of pyrene (PYR) were investigated and their relationships to soil characteristics were addressed. The results indicated that maximum achievable desorption was 30.2, 10.4, and 1.0 mg/kg for soils that had 1.7, 2.2, and 4.4 wt.% of expandable clays (smectite and vermiculite), respectively. Neither dissolved organic matter (DOM) nor total clay amounts made a good prediction of the desorption trend. Subsequently, the ease of desorption facilitated a faster aqueous biodegradation rate. The slowest aqueous biodegradation rate, 0.02 l/h, was achieved for the soil system that had the greatest amount of expandable clays, whereas the soil containing 1.7% expandable clays only achieved 0.73 l/h. The soil with 2.2% expandable clays depicted 0.41 l/h of aqueous biodegradation rate. A good linear correlation was obtained between maximum achievable desorption and aqueous biodegradation rate (R(2)=0.92). Soil analysis revealed that the total (soil+water) biodegradation reached was 65%, 78.3%, and 81.8% of the initial concentration (100 mg/kg) for the sandy clay loam (Colombian), sandy loam (Ohio), and silty loam (New Mexico) soils, respectively. This biodegradation extent was also in good agreement of expandable clay amount. Although aqueous PYR bioavailability was limited due to the strong association with the expandable clays, microbial movement and adhesion to those clays seemed to result in a great extent of the soil-phase biodegradation.  相似文献

中国曾大量生产和使用有机氯农药(OCPs),目前虽已被禁止生产和农业中使用,但含三氯杀螨醇的林丹和滴滴涕(DDTs)仍在非法生产和使用。为了解农业大省江西省城市内湖OCPs的残留情况,以鄱阳湖生态经济区象湖为研究对象,用GC/ECD 分析象湖表层沉积物中8 种OCPs的残留水平,采用ArcGIS空间分析、主成分分析法探讨OCPs 的残留特征、来源及其可能的风险。结果表明,8 种OCPs 在象湖表层沉积物中均有不同程度检出,六六六( ∑ HCHs) 含量为nd~61.89 ng/g, ∑ DDTs含量为nd~81.47 ng/g。含量较高的组分为o,p'-DDT、β-HCH和δ-HCH。象湖表层沉积物中OCPs残留空间分布不均,其中象湖南边湿地花卉公园沉积物中OCPs含量相对较高。同中国其他城市内湖/内河相比,象湖表层沉积物中HCHs和DDTs残留水平偏高,这可能与象湖区域曾经作为南昌市农业发展区有关。来源解析结果表明象湖HCHs和DDTs主要来源于农药的历史使用,但近年来很可能有林丹和三氯杀螨醇的输入。风险评价结果显示目前象湖表层沉积物中DDTs类污染物对人体健康风险总体处于较低水平,但湿地花卉公园周边环境生态风险较高,对周围环境的生物毒性较大。研究结果可为城市内湖的污染控制及风险管理提供科学依据。  相似文献

Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) possesses various applications in several industries owing to its durability, low-cost, and many mechano-thermal properties. Unfortunately, LDPE waste creates an environmental threat. The level of biodegradation of black LDPE sheets with fungi isolated from different landfills sites in Sharqiyah Governorate, Egypt, was evaluated. LDPE sheets, the only source of carbon, along with minimal salt medium were incubated on a rotary shaker at 30 °C and 120 rpm for 16 weeks. Aspergillus carbonarius MH 856457.1 and A. fumigatus MF 276893 confirmed to be good candidates for LDPE biodegradation. A mixed culture of two strains showed the excellent weight loss% of sheets as compared to single isolate. Further efforts to improve the degrading capacity through physical and chemical treatments were performed. The biodegradation was significantly stimulated by 39.1% (thermal treatment), 17.76% (HNO3 treatment), and 5.79% (Gamma-irradiation treatment). Laccases and manganese peroxidases activities were assayed. LDPE biodegradation was analyzed by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). FTIR spectra showed the appearance of new functional groups assigned to hydrocarbon biodegradation and confirmed the role of manganese peroxidase in process. The changes in the FTIR spectra of the mixed culture biomass before and after the biodegradation (Δ73 cm?1) and the surface changes in the biodegraded LDPE (as indicated from SEM) confirmed the depolymerization of LDPE. From GC–MS analysis, the plasticizers bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, Diisssctyl phthalate, 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid diisooctyl ester, and tributyl acetylcitrate completely biodegraded. Moreover, several antioxidants, antimicrobial, and anticancer compounds, and methyl esters of fatty acids were produced.

Elemental chlorine-free (ECF) bleach effluents from kraft mill are characterised by: a chemical organic demand/biological organic demand (COD/BOD(5)) ratio of 4, chlorophenol content with low chlorine substitution, and toxicity. The effect of increasing the concentration of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) content in ECF bleaching sequence effluent on the degradative activity of bacterial communities present in an aerobic system treatment was studied. An aerobic lagoon (AL) was used as a typical secondary treatment of kraft-mill effluent. AL displays a high performance of BOD(5) degradation (up to 90%); however, only 40% of the COD was removed. Simultaneously, the AL system shows a high ability to biodegrade 2,4,6-TCP up to 237 mg/l day. Kinetic parameters of the 2,4,6-TCP biodegradation by aerobic bacteria were determined. The K(s) and K(i) values were 34.3 and 50 mg/l 2,4,6-TCP, respectively. Moreover, the tolerance of aerobic bacteria was observed up to 1.3 g/l 2,4,6-TCP.  相似文献

Human health risk assessment is one of the rapidly evolving tools used in the management of contaminated aquifers. Health risk assessments have been traditionally based on the point estimate approach. Due to the uncertainty and variability inherent in subsurface properties and exposed human population characteristics, probabilistic risk assessment is becoming widely accepted. This study is focused on understanding the uncertainty in biokinetic parameters in describing biodegradation under natural and enhanced remediation conditions. The uncertain parameters considered in this work are key biokinetic parameters and the uncertainty is assessed using the predicted receptor maximum concentration, maximum of 30-year average concentration, time to reach maximum concentration, maximum mass of decay, and the time for maximum decay. The results of this analysis were extended to health risk assessment and risk-based economic analysis. The paper discusses the approach and methodology adopted in this study and the implication of uncertainty of key parameters on decision-relevant information.  相似文献

太湖流域沉积物中有机氯农药空间分布特征及风险评价   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
为了解太湖流域表层沉积物中有机氯农药的空间分布和污染特征,采集全流域111个表层沉积物样品,用GC-μECD分析了20种有机氯农药的含量,并基于沉积物质量基准法对沉积物污染风险进行评价。结果表明:太湖流域沉积物中20种有机氯农药(OCPs)的总含量介于16. 3~96. 9 ng/g dw之间,平均值为35. 0ng/g dw,其中HCHs和DDTs是主要的检出成分,平均含量分别为12. 1、7. 6 ng/g dw,两者含量之和占总OCPs的25. 5%~85. 5%。特征化合物指数法分析结果表明,HCHs主要来源于林丹,而且该区域仍然有新的DDT输入,并且大部分p,p’-DDT通过好氧生物降解为p,p’-DDE。沉积物质量基准法评价结果显示,γ-HCH、DDTs潜在生物毒性较大。  相似文献

A pesticide prioritization approach was developed and implemented in the Pinios River Basin of Central Greece. It takes under consideration the Level of Environmental Risk containing information on the frequency of occurrence of pesticides above environmental thresholds, the intensity of this occurrence and the spatial distribution as well as information about the fate and behavior of pesticides in the environment and the potential to have adverse impact on humans' health. Original 3-year monitoring data from 102 Stationary Sampling Sites located on rivers and their tributaries, reservoirs, streams and irrigation/drainage canals giving rise to a collection of 2382 water samples resulting in 7088 data sets, were included in this integrated prioritization study.Among 302 monitored active ingredients, 119 were detected at least once and the concentrations found in the aquatic systems for 41% of compounds were higher than the respective lowest Predicted Non-Effect Concentration (PNEC) values. Sixteen and 5 pesticides were found with risk ratios (MECmax/PNEC) above 10 (high concern) and 100 (very high concern), respectively. However, pesticides with maximum Measured Environmental Concentration (MECmax) values exceeding by 1000 times the respective lowest PNEC values were also found which were considered of extremely high concern; in the latter group were included prometryn, chlorpyrifos, diazinon, λ-cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, α-cypermethrin deltamethrin, ethalfluralin and phosmet. The sensitivity of the analytical methods used in the monitoring study was considered inadequate to meet the toxicological endpoints for 32 pesticides. The widest distribution of occurrence in the Stationary Sampling Sites of the monitoring program was found for the pesticides, prometryn, fluometuron, terbuthylazine, S-metolachlor, chlorpyrifos, diphenylamine, acetochlor, alachlor, 2,4-D, etridiazole, imidacloprid and lindane (γ-ΗCH). Among the 27 priority pesticides included in the Directive 2013/39/EU, in the present study 13 pesticides were considered as candidates for River Basin Specific Pollutants (RBSP) for the River Basin of Pinios. Among the 30 pesticide specific pollutants that were established by the Greek authorities, in the present study only 6 were considered as candidates for RBSP for the river basin of Pinios. As a result of the implementation of the prioritization approach developed in this study a total of 71 pesticides were identified as being RBSP for the river basin of Pinios. The higher Level of Environmental Risk was found to be exerted by the organophosphorus insecticide chlorpyrifos, followed by lindane and prometryn.The present study provides background information for important decisions to be made concerning the selection of pesticides which should be included in the target analyte list of new monitoring and screening programs of surface water quality in the Pinios River Basin. In addition, the prioritization approach proposed here can be useful for the development of River Basin Management Plans.  相似文献

The objective in the first phase of this study was to screen alfalfa, flatpea, sericea lespedeza, deertongue, reed canarygrass, switchgrass, and tall fescue for phytoremediation of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-contaminated soil. During the second phase, the focus was rhizosphere characterization to optimize PCB phytoremediation. Aroclor 1248 (PCB) was added to soil at 100 mg x kg(-1) of soil. In the first phase, all of the plant species treatments showed significantly greater PCB biodegradation compared to the unplanted controls and the two most effective species were selected for further study. During the rhizosphere characterization study, soil irradiation did not affect PCB biodegradation, but planting significantly increased PCB biodegradation; 38% or less of the initial PCB was recovered from planted pots, compared to more than 82% from the unplanted control soils. Presence of plants significantly increased the biological activity (microbial counts and enzyme activity) of both irradiated and unirradiated soils. Greater bacterial counts and soil enzyme activity were closely related to higher levels of PCB biodegradation. The data showed that Aroclor 1248 biodegradation in soil seem to be positively influenced by the presence of plants and plant-bacteria interactions. Our results suggested that phytoremediation could be an environmentally friendly alternative for PCB-contaminated soils.  相似文献

The biodegradation of 16 United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)-listed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) present in contaminated soil from a manufactured gas plant site was investigated using laboratory-scale in-vessel composting-bioremediation reactors over 8 weeks. The influence of temperature (T, 38, 55, and 70 degrees C) and soil/green waste ratio (S:GW, 0.6:1, 0.7:1, 0.8:1, and 0.9:1) was investigated. A comparative study using a temperature profile during in-vessel composting-bioremediation to meet current regulatory requirements was also investigated. Temperature and amendment ratio were found to be important operating parameters for PAH removal for in-vessel composting-bioremediation of aged coal tar-contaminated soil. After 8 weeks of continuous treatment, the highest removal of 16 USEPA PAHs was observed at T=38 degrees C and S:GW=0.8:1 (75.2%). Lower removal of 16 USEPA PAHs was observed for temperature profile treatment (60.8%). We recommend that when conventional composting processes using temperature profiles to meet regulatory requirements for pathogen control need to be used, these should start with a prolonged mesophilic stage (6 weeks in this investigation) followed by thermophilic, cooling, and maturation stages.  相似文献

The Ouémé River is one of the most important rivers in the Republic of Bénin. It is 510 km long and its catchment drains 75% of the country. In this study, organochlorine and organophosphorous pesticide residues were measured in more than 35 sediment samples collected on nine locations along the Ouémé River from upstream to downstream. Except for one location, Tanéka-Koko, all areas were contaminated by more than 20 pesticides. Organochlorine pesticides identified in sediment samples included pp'-DDE, op'-DDD, pp'-DDD, op'-DDT, pp'-DDT, alpha-endosulfan, beta-endosulfan, endosulfan sulphate, alpha-HCH, beta-HCH, lindane, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, telodrin, isodrin, cis- and trans-heptachlorepoxide, hexachlorbutadiene, hexachlorobenzene and octachlorostyrene. The organophosphorous pesticide chlorpyrifos, used in a new formulation to protect cotton, was also identified. In some areas, the concentrations of organochlorine pesticides in the sediment of the Ouémé River exceeded environmental quality standards and are reason for concern.  相似文献

The effect of the microbial flora of municipal sewage, with special reference to faecal coliform and faecal streptococci groups, on the hydrocarbons biodegradation of the refinery wastewater from the Moustorod Oil Refinery has been studied. The results indicate that sewage with its microbial flora seems to have a significant role in the biodegradation of hydrocarbons in refinery wastewater. In addition, the early degradation in the wastewater seeded by sewage reveals that faecal streptococci, in addition to other microbial flora, have a significant role in the biodegradation of hydrocarbons.  相似文献

The research was focused on the slurry-phase biodegradation of naphthalene in soil. Among ex situ techniques, the slurry phase offers the advantage of increased availability of contaminants to bacteria. From naphthalene contaminated soil, a Pseudomonas putida M8 strain capable to degrade naphthalene was selected. Experiments were performed in a stirred and oxygenated reactor. In this study, the influence of air flow rate and agitation rate on volatilisation and biodegradation of naphthalene was investigated. The hydrocarbon disappearance, the carbon dioxide production, and the ratio of total heterotrophic and naphthalene-degrading bacteria was monitored. The results obtained confirm that the selected bioremediation technology is successful in the treatment of contaminated soils.  相似文献

An innovative biodegradation test system was developed in order to fill the current gap for cost effective and environmentally relevant tools to assess marine biodegradability. Glass beads were colonized by a biofilm in an open flow-through system of seawater with continuous pre-exposure to Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS) (20 μg/L). Thereafter, such colonized beads were added as inoculum in different test systems. [14C]-LAS (5–100 μg/L) was added and primary and ultimate biodegradation were assessed. The bacterial density collected on the beads (109 bact./mL beads) was ca. 3 orders of magnitude higher than the typical seawater content. The LAS mineralization lag phase duration decreased from 55 to < 1 days and the mineralization extent increased from 53 to 90% as the colonized beads volume increased from 10 to 275 mL. This is the first demonstration of marine bacteria's ability to mineralize LAS. On the opposite, less than 13% LAS was mineralized in seawater only. The colonized beads possibly enhanced the probability to encounter the full degraders' consortium in a low volume of seawater (100 mL).  相似文献

The biodegradability of a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) mixture consisted of fluorene (Fl), phenanthrene (Phe) and pyrene (Pyr) by a bacterial consortium enriched from mangrove sediments under sediment-free and sediment slurry conditions was investigated. The enriched consortium made up of three bacterial strains, namely Rhodococcus sp., Acinetobacter sp. and Pseudomonas sp., had a good PAH degradation capability with 100% degradation of Fl and Phe in sediment-free liquid medium after 4 weeks of growth. The Fl and Phe degradation percentages in sediment slurry were higher than that in liquid medium. Autochthonous microorganisms in sediments also possessed satisfactory PAH degradation capability and all three PAHs were almost completely degraded after 4 weeks of growth. Bioaugumentation (inoculation of the enriched consortium to sediments) showed a positive effect on PAH biodegradation after 1 week of growth. Complete biodegradation of pyrene took longer time than that for Fl and Phe, indicating the enriched bacterial consortium had preference to utilize low-molecular weight PAHs.  相似文献

Uranium (U) tailings pose environmental risks and call for proper remediation. In this paper medic and ryegrass plants were used as host plants to examine whether inoculation with an AM fungus, Glomus intraradices, would help phytostabilization of U tailings. The need of amending with uncontaminated soil for supporting plant survival was also examined by mixing soil with U tailing at different mixing ratios. Soil amendment increased plant growth and P uptake. Ryegrass produced a more extensive root system and a greater biomass than medic plants at all mixing ratios. Medic roots were extensively colonized by G. intraradices whereas ryegrass were more sparsely colonized. Plant growth was not improved by mycorrhizas, which, however, improved P nutrition of medic plants. Medic plants contained higher U concentrations and showed higher specific U uptake efficiency compared to ryegrass. In the presence of U tailing, most U had been retained in plant roots, and this distribution pattern was further enhanced by mycorrhizal colonization. The results suggest a role for AM fungi in phytostabilization of U tailings.  相似文献

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) congeners were determined in water samples, sediments, and animal species in the frame of a survey of the River Arrone (Central Italy, near Rome) after a major contamination episode. Animal species were selected on the basis of their living and feeding habits and evaluated as candidate bioindicators of PCB pollution in this lotic ecosystem. Total PCB concentrations in water were found to be low (ng/L level), and in sediments, ranged from about 10 to 200 μg/kg dry weight, depending on the distance from the contamination source. PCB patterns in sediments showed a prevalence of higher chlorinated congeners over time. Concentrations in macroinvertebrates (Calopteryx splendens and Anax imperator) ranged from 60 to 400 μg/kg dry weight, showing significantly different species to species patterns. PCB concentrations were almost parallel in sediments for different sampling stations, while differences in patterns among species can be explained in terms of bioaccumulation/excretion mechanisms. Freshwater shrimps (Palaemonetes antennarius) were not found close to the contamination source, as a consequence of their extreme sensitivity to chemicals, and showed a peculiar pattern (almost exclusively determined by congeners 153, 138, and 180) probably originating from biodegradation mechanisms. Fish samples (Rutilus erythrophthalmus) showed the highest concentrations, as a combination of feeding habit, lipid content, and, probably, less effective biodegradation/excretion pathways. Congener patterns closely match those of Aroclor 1260, which originates from the contamination source. This study confirms that congener physical and chemical parameters, different degradation rates, feeding habits, and mobility of the analysed aquatic organisms, metabolism, and excretion mechanisms, are to be considered to explain the distinctive PCB patterns of different samples.  相似文献
