Daytime light intensity can affect the photoperiodic regulation of the reproductive cycle in birds. The actual way by which
light intensity information is transduced is, however, unknown. We postulate that transduction of the light intensity information
is mediated by changes in the pattern of melatonin secretion. This study, therefore, investigated the effects of high and
low daytime light intensities on the daily melatonin rhythm of Afro-tropical stonechats (Saxicola torquata axillaris) in which seasonal changes in daytime light intensity act as a zeitgeber of the circannual rhythms controlling annual reproduction
and molt. Stonechats were subjected to light conditions simulated as closely as possible to native conditions near the equator.
Photoperiod was held constant at 12.25 h of light and 11.75 h of darkness per day. At intervals of 2.5 to 3.5 weeks, daytime
light intensity was changed from bright (12,000 lux at one and 2,000 lux at the other perch) to dim (1,600 lux at one and
250 lux at the other perch) and back to the original bright light. Daily plasma melatonin profiles showed that they were linked
with changes in daytime light intensity: Nighttime peak and total nocturnal levels were altered when transitions between light
conditions were made, and these changes were significant when light intensity was changed from dim to bright. We suggest that
daytime light intensity could affect seasonal timing via changes in melatonin profiles.

A case of 45,X/46,X,+mar mosaicism was detected in a male fetus (27 weeks' gestation) referred for karyotype analysis following the observation of a short femur at the ultrasound scan. Analysis of 12 Y-chromosome loci by fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) demonstrated that the marker chromosome is of Y origin and corresponds to an authentic isochromosome for the short arm of the Y chromosome, i(Yp). The breakpoint on this marker is in YQ11·1 close to the centromere. The present report illustrates the importance of FISH and PCR techniques as a complement to cytogenetic methods for accurate identification and characterization of chromosome rearrangements in prenatal diagnosis. 相似文献

初步研究了微小亚历山大藻Alexandrium minutum产生的麻痹性贝毒(paralytic shellfish poisoning,PSP)在栉孔扇贝Chlamys farreri体内短期累积、转化与排出的规律。结果表明,在累积实验阶段,栉孔扇贝内脏、肌肉及生殖腺中的PSP毒素含量均随实验时间的延长而逐渐增加,累积20 h后内脏的毒性达21.56μgSTXeq/100 g,累积速率为1.05μgSTXeq/100 g/h。内脏是毒素累积的主要部位,含量占贝体内PSP毒素总量的89.5%,累积率为6.4%,远远高于肌肉、生殖腺。经过30 h的排出阶段,扇贝总毒性减少到15.05μgSTX eq/100 g,排出速率为0.22μgSTXeq/100 g.h,仅为累积速率的1/5。 相似文献

This study tested the hypothesis that raising canal water levels with 30 cm beyond the growing season in intensively managed lowland grassland (2.4-3.7 m above sea level) in Belgium decreases the agronomic value of pastures The study ran 3 years before and 3 years after the water elevation. Using five pairs of plots inside and outside the wetted perimeter, it was not possible to demonstrate significant impacts of the elevated water level on dry matter yield, forage quality, botanical composition, and penetration resistance of the top soil layer of the grassland. In an ex situ lysimeter experiment, simulating the effect of a water level in canals up to 50 cm beneath the surface of the pastures indicated a significant decrease of the penetration resistance of the top soil layer.Results are discussed and confronted with the difficulties of field research addressing the elevation of water levels. 相似文献

Short rotation bioenergy crops for energy production are considered an effective means to mitigate the greenhouse effect,
mainly due to their ability to substitute fossil fuels. Alternatively, carbon can be sequestered and stored in the living
biomass. This paper compares the two land use categories (forest land and non-forest land) for two management practices (short
rotation vs. long rotation) to study mitigation potential of afforestation and fossil fuel substitution as compared to carbon
storage. Significant carbon benefit can be obtained in the long run from using lands for growing short rotation energy crops
and substituting fossil fuels by the biomass thus produced, as opposed to sequestering carbon in the biomass of the trees.
When growth rates are high and harvest is used in a sustainable manner (i.e., replanting after every harvest), the opportunities
for net carbon reductions appear to be fossil fuel substitution, rather than storage in ecosystem biomass. Our results suggest
that at year 100 a total of 216 Mg C ha−1 is sequestered for afforestation/reforestation using long rotation sal (Shorea robusta Gaertn.f) species, as opposed to offset of 412 Mg C ha−1 for carbon storage and fossil fuel substitution for short rotation poplar (Populus Deltoides Marsh) plantations. The bioenergy option results in a continuous stream of about 3 Mg C ha−1 yr−1 of carbon benefits per year on forest land and 4 Mg C ha−1 yr−1 on non-forest land. Earlier studies have shown that in India waste land availability for establishing energy plantations
is in the range of 9.6 to 36.5 Mha. Thus, using the 758 Tg biomass per year generated from 9.6 Mha waste land gives a mitigation
potential in the range of 227 to 303 Tg C per year for carbon storage and fossil fuel substitution from poplar plantation
for substituting coal based power generation. Depending upon the land availability for plantation, the potential for energy
generation is in the range of 11,370 PJ, possibly amounting to a bioenergy supply of 43% of the total projected energy consumption
in 2015. Further studies are needed to estimate the mitigation potential of other species with different productivities for
overall estimation of the economic feasibility and social acceptability in a tropical country like India. 相似文献

Despite the progressive use of ecodesign in the industrial world, taking into account environmental constraints remains problematical for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), which seem to be remaining on the fringe of the movement. Beyond the lack of environmental culture in the enterprises, the problem stems from the ecodesign tools which have not been designed with any thought of integrating them into the enterprises' organisation. There is indeed no method for ecodesign integration in companies. We show in this article that, while in fact there is a thorough and varied set of ecodesign tools available, they will not allow ecodesign to become more widespread while they remain tools for experts. We are therefore putting forward a method to carry out the integration of ecodesign in SMEs during demonstration projects implemented with the assistance of advisory centres specialised in the industrial sector of the company. 相似文献
