The gas products from gasification processes have been considered to have some limitations in gas composition and heating value from the previous studies. Gasification characteristics of sewage sludge and wood mixture were investigated using different mixing ratios with the purpose of better quality of gas product suitable for energy/power generation. The gasification experiment was performed by an indirectly heated fluidized bed reactor. As reaction temperature increased from 600 to 900 °C, the yield of gas product increased with higher generation of CO, H2 and CH4 by more activated gas conversion reactions. As the equivalence ratio increased from 0.2 to 0.4, composition ratio of CO2 increased while CO, CH4, H2 decreased as expected. Several operating variables including mixing ratio of wood with dried sludge were also tested. From this initial stage of experiment, optimal operating conditions for the bubbling fluidized bed gasifier, could be considered 900 °C in temperature; 0.2 in equivalence ratio and 40 % in wood mixing ratio within test variables range. These results will be more thoroughly investigated for the application to the larger scale pilot system.  相似文献

Solid-fuel conversion or gasification study of sewage sludge and energy recovery has become increasingly important because energy recovery and climate change are emerging issues. Various types of catalysts, such as dolomite, steel slag and calcium oxide, were tested for tar reduction during the sewage sludge gasification process. For the experiments on sewage sludge gasification reactions and tar reduction using the catalysts, a fixed bed of laboratory-scale experimental apparatus was set up. The reactor was made of quartz glass using an electric muffle furnace. The sewage sludge samples used had moisture contents less than 6%. The experimental conditions were as follows: sample weight was 20 g and reaction time was 10 min, gasification reaction temperature was from 600 to 800°C, and the equivalence ratio was 0.2. The quantity of catalysts was 2–6 g, and temperatures of catalyst layers were 500–700°C. As the reaction temperature increased up to 800°C, the yields of gaseous products and liquid products increased, whereas char and tar products decreased, showing effects on gas product compositions. These results were considered to be due to the increase of the water-gas reaction and Boudouard reaction. In the case of experiments with catalysts, dolomite (4 g), steel slag (6 g) and calcium oxide (6 g) were used. When the temperature of catalysts increased, the weight of the tar produced decreased with different cracking performances by different catalysts. Reforming reactions were considered to occur on the surface of dolomite, steel slag and calcium oxide, causing cracking of the hydrocarbon structure, which eventually showed reduced tar generation.  相似文献

This article describes the gasification of polyethylene–wood mixtures to form syngas (H2 and CO) with the aim of feedstock recycling via direct fermentation of syngas to ethanol. The aim was to determine the effects of four process parameters on process properties that give insight into the efficiency of gasification in general, and particularly into the optimum gasification conditions for the production of ethanol by fermentation of producer gas. Gasification experiments (fluidized bed, 800°–950°C) were done under different conditions to optimize the composition of syngas suitable for fermentation purposes. The data obtained were used for statistical analysis and modeling. In this way, the effect of each parameter on the process properties was determined and the model was used to predict the optimum gasification conditions. The parameters varied during the experiment were gasification temperature, equivalence ratio, the ratio of plastic to wood in the feed, and the amount of steam added to the process. The response models obtained proved to be statistically significant in the experimental domain. The optimum gasification conditions for maximization of carbon monoxide and hydrogen production were identified. The conditions are: temperature 900°C, equivalence ratio 0.15, amount of plastic in the feed 0.11 g/g feed, and amount of steam added 0.42 g/g feed. These optimum conditions are at the edge of the present experimental domain. The maximum combined CO and H2 efficiency was 42%, and for the maximum yield of CO and H2 it is necessary to minimize the polyethylene content, minimize the added steam and the equivalence ratio, and maximize temperature.  相似文献

Pyrolysis of sewage sludge was studied in a free-fall reactor at 1000–1400 °C. The results showed that the volatile matter in the sludge could be completely released to gaseous product at 1300 °C. The high temperature was in favor of H2 and CO in the produced gas. However, the low heating value (LHV) of the gas decreased from 15.68 MJ/N m3 to 9.10 MJ/N m3 with temperature increasing from 1000 °C to 1400 °C. The obtained residual solid was characterized by high ash content. The energy balance indicated that the most heating value in the sludge was in the gaseous product.  相似文献

Waste plastics recycling by an entrained-flow gasifier   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We studied an entrained-flow gasification process which efficiently converts waste plastics to energy at a high energy recovery rate. Waste plastics, after being shredded to <8 mm or <14 mm, were fed into an entrained-flow gasifier with air and oxygen. In the gasifier, organic substances were pyrolyzed, partially combusted, and then converted into synthetic gas (CO, H2) at a high temperature (over 1600 K). The clarified gasification characteristics were that the lower heat value (LHV) of the product gas was over 4.2 MJ/Nm3 and the cold gas efficiency was approximately 60%. Other inert substances in the wastes such as ashes and metals were melted into slag and condensed on bag filters. The bag filters and a water scrubber removed impurities such as dusts, heavy metals, and hydrogen halides from the product gases. Solid hydrocarbons, which include char and soot, were removed at a hot cyclone and on the bag filters.

The fates of radioactive cadmium, strontium, cesium, cobalt, arsenic, mercury, zinc, and copper spiked into sewage sludge were determined when the sludge was gasified by a process that maximizes production of char from the sludge (ChemChar process). For the most part the metals were retained in the char product in the gasifier. Small, but measurable quantities of arsenic were mobilized by gasification and slightly more than 1% of the arsenic was detected in the effluent gas. Mercury was largely mobilized from the solids in the gasifier, but most of the mercury was retained in a filter composed of char prepared from the sludge. The small amounts of mercury leaving the gasification system were found to be associated with an aerosol product generated during gasification. The metals retained in the char product of gasification were only partially leachable with 50% concentrated nitric acid.  相似文献

In the present work, the gasification with air of dehydrated sewage sludge (SS) with 20wt.% moisture mixed with conventional woody biomass was investigated using a pilot fixed-bed updraft gasifier. Attention was focused on the effect of the SS content on the gasification performance and on the environmental impact of the process. The results showed that it is possible to co-gasify SS with wood pellets (WPs) in updraft fixed-bed gasification installations. However, at high content of sewage sludge the gasification process can become instable because of the very high ash content and low ash fusion temperatures of SS. At an equivalent ratio of 0.25, compared with wood pellets gasification, the addition of sewage sludge led to a reduction of gas yield in favor of an increase of condensate production with consequent cold gas efficiency decrease. Low concentrations of dioxins/furans and PAHs were measured in the gas produced by SS gasification, well below the limiting values for the exhaust gaseous emissions. NH(3), HCl and HF contents were very low because most of these compounds were retained in the wet scrubber systems. On the other hand, high H(2)S levels were measured due to high sulfur content of SS. Heavy metals supplied with the feedstocks were mostly retained in gasification solid residues. The leachability tests performed according to European regulations showed that metals leachability was within the limits for landfilling inert residues. On the other hand, sulfate and chloride releases were found to comply with the limits for non-hazardous residues.  相似文献

The recovery of phosphorus from sewage sludge ash samples obtained from 7 operating sludge incinerators in the UK using a sulfuric acid washing procedure to produce a technical grade phosphoric acid product has been investigated. The influences of reaction time, sulfuric acid concentration, liquid to solid ratio and source of ISSA on P recovery have been examined. The optimised conditions were the minimum stoichiometric acid requirement, a reaction time of 120 min and a liquid to solid ratio of 20. Under these conditions, average recoveries of between 72% and 91% of total phosphorus were obtained. Product filtrate was purified by passing through a cation exchange column, concentrated to 80% H3PO4 and compared with technical grade H3PO4 specifications. The economics of phosphate recovery by this method are briefly discussed.  相似文献

The disposal of sewage sludge from municipal waste water treatment plants is suffering from raising costs. The gasification is an alternative way of treatment, which can reduce the amount of solid residues that must be disposed from a water treatment plant. The produced gas can be used very flexible to produce electrical energy, to burn it very cleanly or to use it for upgrading. The gasification in the fluidised bed and the gas cleaning with the granular bed filter has shown successful operation. A demonstration plant in Balingen was set up in 2002 and rebuilt to a larger throughput in 2010. As a next step a demonstration plant was built in Mannheim and is now at the end of the commissioning phase. Nowadays the product gas is blended with biogas from sludge fermentation and utilized in a gas engine or combustion chamber to produce heat. In the future the process control for a maximized efficiency and the removal of organic and inorganic impurities in the gas will be further improved.  相似文献

Microwave receptor plays an important role in the microwave pyrolysis of sewage sludge in view of its significant influence on the yield and property of bio-fuel products. The yield and the chemical compositions of bio-fuels (gases and oils) obtained from sewage sludge mixed with different receptors (graphite, residue char, active carbon or silicon carbide) were investigated in this study by Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed that the use of silicon carbide gave rise to the highest final temperature of 1130 °C, resulting in the highest yield of gas fraction (up to 63.2 wt.%). The low heating rate (200 °C/min) which was attributed to the addition of residue char promoted condensation reactions and resulted in an increase in solid yield. The existence of active carbon could prolong the resistance time of volatiles in the hot zone owing to its porous structure, generating the maximum concentration of H2 + CO (60%) in the pyrolysis gas. When graphite was used, the final low temperature favoured the cyclization of the alkenes, giving rise to a higher concentration of mononuclear aromatics in the pyrolysis oils. The model established in this study revealed that the quantity and quality of the products obtained from the microwave pyrolysis highly depended on the process conditions, which were influenced by the receptor significantly.  相似文献

A utilization way of herb residues is designed to convert herb residues to gas fuel in industrial-scale by a circulating fluidized bed gasifier in this paper. The product gas is used in the production of Chinese medicine, and the heat of the flue gas from the boiler can be used in herb residues drying to realize the energy recycling and no herb residues discharge. The gasification characteristics of herb residues in the circulating fluidized bed of 300 kg/h were investigated for about 200 h. The results indicated that the gas composition and tar yield were affected by biomass flow rate, equivalence ratio (ER), moisture content and char circulating. The lower heating value of product gas was 4–5 MJ/m3 using herb residues as feedstock. When mean biomass flow rate was at 5.5 kg m?2 s?1 and ER at 0.35, the product gas reached a good condition with lower heating value of 4.89 MJ/m3 and cold gas efficiency of 62.36%. When the moisture content changed from 12.5% to 18.7%, the concentrations of H2, CO and CO2 changed from 4.66% to 6.92%, 11.23% to 10.15%, and 16.55% to 17.82% respectively, and the tar content in gas decreased from 15.1 g/m3 to 14.4 g/m3 when the moisture content increased from 12.5% to 15.4%. There are metal oxides in the ash of herb residues, especially CaO, MgO, K2O, Al2O3, and Fe2O3 which have obvious function on tar catalytic decomposition. The ash that attaches to the char particles can decrease the tar yield and improve the quality of gas after returning to the gasifier.  相似文献

Steam gasification of two different refuse derived fuels (RDFs), differing slightly in composition as well as thermal stability, was carried out in a fixed-bed reactor at atmospheric pressure. The proximate and ultimate analyses reveal that carbon and hydrogen are the major components in RDFs. The thermal analysis indicates the presence of cellulose and plastic based materials in RDFs. H2 and CO are found to be the major products, along with CO2 and hydrocarbons resulting from gasification of RDFs. The effect of gasification temperature on H2 and CO selectivities was studied, and the optimum temperature for better H2 and CO selectivity was determined to be 725 degrees C. The calorific value of product gas produced at lower gasification temperature is significantly higher than that of gas produced at higher process temperature. Also, the composition of RDF plays an important role in distribution of products gas. The RDF with more C and H content is found to produce more amounts of CO and H2 under similar experimental conditions. The steam/waste ratio showed a notable effect on the selectivity of syngas as well as calorific value of the resulting product gas. The flow rate of carrier gas did not show any significant effect on products yield or their distribution.  相似文献

In this study, the combustion and pyrolysis processes of three sewage sludge were investigated. The sewage sludge came from three wastewater treatment plants.Proximate and ultimate analyses were performed. The thermal behaviour of studied sewage sludge was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis with mass spectrometry (TGA-MS). The samples were heated from ambient temperature to 800 °C at a constant rate 10 °C/min in air (combustion process) and argon flows (pyrolysis process). The thermal profiles presented in form of TG/DTG curves were comparable for studied sludges. All TG/DTG curves were divided into three stages. The main decomposition of sewage sludge during the combustion process took place in the range 180–580 °C with c.a. 70% mass loss. The pyrolysis process occurred in lower temperature but with less mass loss. The evolved gaseous products (H2, CH4, CO2, H2O) from the decomposition of sewage sludge were identified on-line.  相似文献

Drying characteristics of sewage sludge using vacuum evaporation and frying   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
This study was performed to investigate the possibility of utilizing sewage sludge as a fuel. The drying characteristics of sewage sludge were examined by using vacuum evaporation and fry-drying technology in a batch-type rotary evaporator. In addition, the optimal drying conditions of sludge in the vacuum evaporator were investigated in terms of the vacuum pressure, temperature, and oil dosage ratio, etc. Experimental results showed that the moisture content in the sludge decreased with increases in oil/sewage sludge ratio and temperature. Dried sludge fuel (SDF) product could be obtained with on average less than 5% moisture content and a lower heating value of more than 4000 kcal/kg. Considering energy efficiency, we suggest that the optimal operating condition for drying sludge is ?450 mmHg of vacuum, a temperature of 100°C, a drying time of 90 min, and a sludge/oil ratio of 1:1. The SDF product was shaped as granules and fluff-type particles. Evaluated from the perspective of the energy balance and economic considerations, this sludge drying system with vacuum fry drying could be used for effective sludge treatment and the production of SDF.  相似文献

In this study, refuse plastic fuel (RPF) was copyrolyzed with low-quality coal and was gasified in the presence of a metal catalyst and steam. Some metal catalysts, such as Ni, NiO, and Mg, and mixtures of these with base promoters such as Al2O3 and Fe2O3 were employed in the pyrolysis and gasification processes to convert the synthesis gas into more valuable fuel gas. The operating temperatures for the pyrolysis and gasification were between 700° and 1000°C. The experimental parameters were the operating temperature, catalyst type, basic promoter type, and steam injection amount. Solid fuel samples (5 g) were fed into a semibatch-type quartz tube reactor when the reactor reached the designated temperature. The synthesis gas was analyzed by gas chromatography. The use of low-quality coal as fuel in co-pyrolysis with RPF was explored. For the co-pyrolysis of RPF and low-quality coal, the effectiveness of the catalysts for fuel gas production followed the order Mg > NiO > Ni. In catalytic gasification of RPF, the addition of Al2O3 seemed to reduce the activity of the corresponding catalysts Ni and Mg. The maximum fuel gas yield (92.6%) was attained when Mg/Fe2O3 was used in steam gasification at 1000°C.  相似文献

Paper sludge is a waste product from the paper and pulp manufacturing industry that is generally disposed of in landfills. Pyrolysis of paper sludge can potentially provide an option for managing this waste by thermal conversion to higher calorific value fuels, bio-gas, bio-oils and charcoal. This work investigates the properties of paper sludge during pyrolysis and energy required to perform thermal conversion. The products of paper sludge pyrolysis were also investigated to determine their properties and potential energy value. The dominant volatile species of paper sludge pyrolysis at 10 °C/min were found to be CO and CO2, contributing to almost 25% of the paper sludge dry weight loss at 500 °C. The hydrocarbons (CH4, C2H4, C2H6) and hydrogen contributed to only 1% of the total weight loss. The bio-oils collected at 500 °C were primarily comprised of organic acids with the major contribution being linoleic acid, 2,4-decadienal acid and oleic acid. The high acidic content indicates that in order to convert the paper sludge bio-oil to bio-diesel or petrochemicals, further upgrading would be necessary. The charcoal produced at 500 °C had a calorific value of 13.3 MJ/kg.  相似文献

The work deals with catalytic gasification, pyrolysis and non-catalytic gasification of tar from an industrial dumping site. All experiments were carried out in a vertical stainless steel gasification reactor at 800 °C. Crushed calcined dolomite was used as the gasification catalyst. Parameters such as addition of water and air, and the influence of the catalyst in regard to the composition of the process gas were investigated. The catalytic gasification experiment in the steady state produced process gas with the composition: 56 % of H2, 9 % of CO, 11 % of CH4 and 12 % of CO2 (mol.%). Concentration of the C2 fraction was lower than 1 mol.%. Volume flow of air was later changed from 120 to 230 ml min?1 reducing the amount of hydrogen to 51 mol.% and that of methane to 10 mol.%. Process gas created in a non-catalytic gasification process contained 26–30 mol.% of methane, 13–15 mol.% of carbon monoxide and 15–17 mol.% of the C2 fraction and lower amounts of hydrogen (20 mol.%) and carbon dioxide (2–3 mol.%). The highest apparent conversion of tar was reached in the catalytic gasification processes. A higher rate of catalyst deactivation can be observed when water or air is not added.  相似文献

Gasification of waste plastics by steam reforming in a fluidized bed   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
The process of producing synthetic gas from waste plastics by steam reforming was investigated. To evaluate this process, the steam reforming of the oils derived from low-density polyethylene and polystyrene were carried out using a laboratory-scale fluidized bed of Ni-Al2O3 catalysts. The performance of gasification in terms of carbon conversion, gas yield, and gas compositions was examined. Although oils derived from plastics contain many kinds of heavy hydrocarbons and aromatics, they were well gasified at temperatures above 1023 K with a steam/carbon ratio of 3.5 and a weight hourly space velocity of 1 h−1. The hydrogen content of the product gas was very high at approximately 72 vol% for polyethylene-derived oil and 68 vol% for polystyrene-derived oil. These compositions agreed well with the values calculated from chemical equilibrium.  相似文献
