The capacity factors of a series of hydrophobic organic compounds (HOCs) were measured in soil leaching column chromatography (SLCC) on a soil column, and in reversed-phase liquid chromatography on a C18 column with different volumetric fractions (phi) of methanol in methanol-water mixtures. A general equation of linear solvation energy relationships, log(XYZ) XYZ0 + mV(I)/100 + spi + bbetam + aalpham, was applied to analyze capacity factors (k'), soil organic partition coefficients (Koc) and octanol-water partition coefficients (P). The analyses exhibited high accuracy. The chief solute factors that control logKoc, log P, and logk' (on soil and on C18) are the solute size (V(I)/100) and hydrogen-bond basicity (betam). Less important solute factors are the dipolarity/polarizability (pi*) and hydrogen-bond acidity (alpham). Log k' on soil and log Koc have similar signs in four fitting coefficients (m, s, b and a) and similar ratios (m:s:b:a), while log k' on C18 and logP have similar signs in coefficients (m, s, b and a) and similar ratios (m:s:b:a). Consequently, logk' values on C18 have good correlations with logP (r > 0.97), while logk' values on soil have good correlations with logKoc (r > 0.98). Two Koc estimation methods were developed, one through solute solvatochromic parameters, and the other through correlations with k' on soil. For HOCs, a linear relationship between logarithmic capacity factor and methanol composition in methanol-water mixtures could also be derived in SLCC.  相似文献

This work has examined cobalt(II) binding by a variety of solid humic acids (HAs) isolated from peat, plant and soil sources at temperatures down to 60K. The results confirm that X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) measurements cannot distinguish between aquo and carboxylato ligands in the inner coordination sphere of Co(II). However, between 1 and 2 inner-sphere carboxylato ligands can be detected in all the peat, plant and soil-derived HA samples by extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements, indicating inner-sphere coordination of HA-bound Co(II). The precision of C(carboxylate) detection is limited by the extent and quality of the data and the contribution from inner-sphere O to the Fourier transformed peaks used to detect carbon. Putative chelate ring formation is consistent with a relatively negative entropy change in step A, the stronger Co(II) binding step by HA functional groups, and could relate to 'non-exchangeable' metal binding by HSs.  相似文献

For many types of hydrophobic compounds, sorption non-linearity and solid-water distributions in the field well above expectations from organic matter partitioning models have lead to the proposition that strong adsorption to soot surfaces may not be limited to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons but may extend as a significant process for many aromatic compound classes. Here, the soot-water distribution coefficients (Ksc) were determined with the soot cosolvency-column method for homolog series of five polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), five polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and for two polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs). All compounds exhibited significantly stronger association with soot carbon than expected from estimates of their bulk organic-carbon normalized partition coefficients (Koc). The Ksc/Koc ratios (at aqueous concentrations of around 0.1-1 microg/l) were for PCDDs (up to tetrachlorination) 19-130 (median 25), for PCDFs (also up to tetrachlorination) 150-490 (median 300), and for both the tetra- and pentabrominated PBDEs a factor of 60. The particularly strong soot sorption for the PCDFs is of similar enhancement factors as previously elucidated for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Compound-class specific correlations between log Ksc and octanol-water partition coefficients (log Kow) were significant for both PCDDs and PCDFs (and with R2 > 98%). These may prove useful for anticipating variable fractions of dissolved exposures between different environmental regimes and putative remediation objects.  相似文献

The adsorption of heavy fuel oil No. 2 (F2) on a reference kaolinite (Arvor kaolin, France), and the influence of this anthropic organic matter on the phenanthrene (PHEN) retention capacity of a kaolinite were investigated in the laboratory. The heaviest and most polar compounds of F2 are adsorbed on kaolinite preferentially to the other compounds and also partly irreversibly. The precoating of kaolinite by F2 significantly increases the sorption of PHEN in the range of concentrations studied (10-500 microg l(-1)). The partition coefficients normalized to organic carbon content (Koc) of kaolin precoated with fuel oil (5.2 < log Koc < 5.5) are one order of magnitude higher than those of the original kaolin (4.2 < logKoc < 4.5), and show very good agreement with the literature for polluted industrial soils. The Koc measured on the uncoated kaolin are in close agreement with the values determined for natural soils in which humic substances represent the organic component. This demonstrates that the composition of organic matter is the primary factor in PHEN retention by the soils. Therefore, in predicting the transport of PHEN, and other Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in general, in soils of industrial sites containing heavy hydrocarbons or tars requires that the specific nature of the organic matter contained in these soils be taken into consideration.  相似文献

The fumigant 1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D) is considered a major replacement to methyl bromide, which is to be phased out of use in the United States by 2005. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate soil-water partitioning of 1,3-D in two California agricultural soils (Salinas clay loam and Arlington sandy loam). The partition coefficients (Kd and Kf) were determined by directly measuring the concentration of 1,3-D in the solid phase (Cs) and aqueous phase (Cw) after batch equilibration. In the Salinas clay loam, the Kf of cis-1,3-D in adsorption and desorption isotherms was 0.47 and 0.54, respectively, with respective values of 0.39 and 0.49 for trans-1,3-D. This slight hysteric effect suggests that a different range of forces are involved in the adsorption and desorption process. Since n was near unity in the Freundlich equation, the Freundlich isotherms can also be approximated using the liner isotherm. At 25 degrees C, the Kd of the 1,3-D isomers in both soils ranged from 0.46 to 0.56, and the Koc (organic matter partition coefficient) ranged from 58 to 70. The relatively low Kd values and a Koc that falls within the range of 50-150, suggests that 1,3-D is weakly sorbed and highly mobile in these soils. Understanding the sorption behavior of 1,3-D in soil is important when developing fumigation practices to reduce the movement of 1,3-D to the air and groundwater.  相似文献

Laboratory studies were conducted to determine the sorption behaviour of six commonly used pesticides (acetochlor, atrazine, carbendazim, diazinon, imidacloprid and isoproturon) on Hungarian brown forest soil with clay alluviation (Luvisol) using the batch equilibrium technique. The sorption isotherms could be described by the Freundlich equation in non-linear form (n < 1) for all compounds, however in case of diazinon using the extended Freundlich equation proved to be a better approach. The adsorption constant related soil organic carbon content (Koc) calculated from Freundlich equation were 314 for acetochlor, 133 for atrazine, 2805 for carbendazim, 1589 for diazinon, 210 for imidacloprid and 174 for isoproturon. The octanol-water partition coefficients (Pow), which can be a useful parameter to predict of adsorption behaviour of a chemical on soil, and dissociation coefficients of these pesticides were calculated based on the chemical structure of them using a computerized expert system. The octanol-water partition coefficients were determined experimentally from high performance liquid chromatographic parameters as well. Good agreement was observed between experimental and the computer expert system estimated data. Computer estimated log Pow values ranged 0.5 and 3.86 for the examined pesticides, with imidacloprid and diazinon being the least and most hydrophobic respectively. Experimentally determined logPow ranged between 0.92 and 3.81 with the same tendency. It can be concluded that the Freundlich adsorption constants (Kf) are slightly related to the octanol-water partition coefficients of investigated chemicals, nevertheless no close correlation could be established because of the influence of further characteristics of solutes and soil.  相似文献

Sorption of fipronil and its metabolites on soils from South Australia   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper reports on the sorption of fipronil [(+/-)-5-amino-1-(2,6-dichloro-alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluoro-p-tolyl)-4-trifluoromethyl-sulfinylpyrazole-3-carbonitrile] and its two main metabolites, desulfynil and sulfide derivatives on a range of soils from South Australia. The Freundlich sorption coefficient (Kf) values for fipronil on the soils ranged from 1.94 to 4.84 using a 5% acetonitrile/water mixture as the soil solution. Its two metabolites had a higher sorption affinity for soils, with Kf values ranging from 11.09 to 23.49 for the sulfide derivative and from 4.70 to 11.77 for the desulfynil derivative. Their sorption coefficients were found to be better related to the soil organic carbon than clay content. The presence of cosolvents in soil solutions had a significant influence on the sorption of fipronil. The Freundlich sorption coefficients showed a log linear relationship with the fractions of both acetonitrile and methanol in solutions. The sorption coefficient of fipronil on Turretfield soil in the aqueous solution was estimated to be from 13.80 to 19.19. Methanol had less effect on the sorption of fipronil than acetonitrile. The Kd values for fipronil on the eight soils using a 5% methanol/water mixture were from 5.34 to 13.85, which reflect more closely the sorption in the aqueous solution. The average Koc value for fipronil on the eight South Australian soils was calculated to be 825+/-214.  相似文献

Laboratory studies utilizing radioisotopic techniques were conducted to determine the adsorption, desorption, and mobility of endosulfan (6,7,8,9,10,10-hexachloro-1,5,5a,6,9,9a-hexahydro-6,9-methano-2,4,3-benzodioxanthiepin3-oxide) and methamidophos (O,S-dimethyl phosphorothioate) in sandy loam and clay soils of the Cameron Highlands and the Muda rice-growing area, respectively. High Freundlich adsorption distribution coefficients [Kads(f)] for endosulfan (6.74 and 18.75) and low values for methamidophos (0.40 and 0.98) were obtained in the sandy loam and clay soils, respectively. The observed Koc values for endosulfan were 350.85 (sandy loam) and 1143.19 (clay) while Koc values of 20.92 (sandy loam) and 59.63 (clay) were obtained for methamidophos. Log Kow of 0.40 and 1.25 were calculated for endosulfan as well as -1.96 and -1.21 for methamidophos in the sandy loam and clay soils, respectively. Desorption was common to both pesticides but the desorption capacity of methamidophos from each soil type far exceeded that of endosulfan. Soil thin layer chromatography (TLC) and column studies showed that while methamidophos was very mobile in both soils, endosulfan displayed zero mobility in clay soil.  相似文献

Thirteen soils collected from 11 provinces in eastern China were used to investigate the butachlor adsorption. The results indicated that the total organic carbon (TOC) content, clay content, amorphous Fe2O3 content, silt content, CEC, and pH had a combined effect on the butachlor sorption on soil. Combination of the data obtained from the 13 soils in the present study with other 23 soil samples reported by other researchers in the literature showed that Koc would be a poor predictive parameter for butachlor adsorption on soils with TOC content higher than 4.0% and lower than 0.2%. The soils with the ratio of clay content to TOC content (RCO) values less than 60 adsorbed butachlor mainly by the partition into soil organic matter matrix. The soils with RCO values higher than 60 apparently adsorbed butachlor by the combination of the partition into soil organic matter matrix and adsorption on clay surface.  相似文献

Data on the experimental measurement of the octanol/water partition coefficient (Kow) with hydrophobic compounds was assembled from the literature. The precision, characterised by the standard deviation of mean Kow values based on five commonly used experimental methods, over an extended Kow range was found to generally decline with compounds having log Kow > 5.5. In the log Kow range from 2.0 to 5.5 there was little difference between the mean values of log Kow determined by the different methods but major differences occured with compounds having log Kow > 5.5. The agreement between calculated ClogP values and Kow values derived from individual experimental methods indicated that ClogP overestimates log Kow from all experimental methods with compounds having values greater than 5.5.  相似文献

The octanol-air partition coefficients (K(OA)) of all 209 PCt-ABs were determined computationally to fill gaps on their environmentally relevant physical and chemical properties. These properties have been determined using two computational approaches: the semi-empirical quantum chemistry method for property parameterization (PM6) of the molecular orbital package (MOPAC) and density functional theory (DFT) method using B3LYP functional and 6-311++G** basis set in Gaussian 03 software and artificial neural network (ANN) predicting abilities. Both computational methods enabled estimation of log K(OA) partition coefficients of PCt-ABs with a similar accuracy and precision. The PM6 method compared to DFT was highly superior because it requires much less time, manpower and cost of hardware. The determined log K(OA) values of the investigated PCt-ABs for standard condition (25 °C) varied between 8.30 and 8.75 for Mono-; 8.71 and 9.92 for Di-; 9.58 and 10.72 for Tri-; 10.11 and 11.34 for Tetra-, 10.83 and 11.85 for Penta-; 11.24 and 12.36 for Hexa-; 11.87 and 12.66 for Hepta-; 12.31 and 12.97 for Octa-; 12.89 and 13.21 for Nona-Ct-ABs; and 13.17- and 13.49 for Deca-Ct-AB. PCt-ABs, in view of these log K(OA) values, can be classified as compounds of relatively low (Mono-, Di- and some of Tri- Ct-ABs with values of log K(OA) around 8 to 10) environmental mobility (most of Tri- to Nona-Ct-ABs and Deca-Ct-AB homologues with values of log K(OA) >10), and with a potential to be adsorbed by soil particles.  相似文献

Environmental fate determining physical properties including their temperature dependence for five nitro musks and for seven polycyclic musks were estimated. The properties evaluated were vapor pressure in a solid and liquid state (PS and PL), solubility in water (S), Henry's law coefficient (H = PL/S) and log octanol-water partition coefficient (log KOW). Gas chromatography for starting values of vapor pressure estimation and HPLC experiments at 5-20 degrees C for comparison of the theoretical versus experimental solubilities in water were performed. The values of temperature (T) dependence coefficients (Ai and Bi) in equations: log (Property)i = Ai - Bi/T were determined. Values of properties were compared with literature-based data, and an example of their use in environmental hazard estimation by fate modeling was given.  相似文献

Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) in both, isocratic and gradient elution mode (stationary phase: LiChrospher 100 RP-18; mobile phase: water/methanol or water/acetonitrile) was used for a renewed determination of octanol/water partition coefficients (Kow) of selected tetrachlorobenzyltoluene (TCBT) isomers. Reported Kow values identify this substance class as very hydrophobic but the data are relatively inconsistent. Based on a series of calibration runs with hydrophobic reference substances of different chemical structure at various eluent compositions we tested different approaches for the evaluation of isocratic retention factors (logk) and found substantial differences between the direct calibration procedure at special methanol volume fractions in the mobile phase (0.95-0.80) and the use of retention factors extrapolated to pure water as eluent (logkw). The logKow values obtained for the TCBTs with the latter approach are around 0.5 units higher and closer to literature data. The gradient elution experiments yield slightly better results compared to the isocratic direct calibration procedure, but not as good as the calibration with log kw. In addition, the use of the RP-HPLC retention factors for estimating sorption coefficients (Koc) of TCBT isomers is discussed.  相似文献

Many pesticides are degraded to become chlorinated aromatic compounds in soils. Equilibrium distribution of chlorobenzene and chlorophenol compounds in soil-water systems of Yangmingshan loam, Pingcheng silty clay loam and Annei silty loam was studied with the integral distribution equilibrium equation involving the partial solubility parameters of the chemicals. If the adsorption of chemicals on soils is partitioning in soil organic matter surrounding the soil mineral particles, the absorption constant (Kd) of a chemical in soil-water system could be stated as the distribution coefficient (or partition constant, Koc) of the chemical in the two adjunct immiscible phases--water and soil organic matter. The distribution coefficient (Koc) of chemicals calculated from the integral distribution equilibrium equation agrees well with the experimental adsorption coefficient (Kd, or experimental Koc) of chemicals determined in this study, for all the three different types of soils in water according to multiple-regression analysis. Reference data of Karger or Tijssen are employed to estimate the Koc for both polar and non-polar chemicals. The integral distribution equilibrium equation can exactly describe the distribution behavior of nonionic compound of chlorobenzenes and chlorophenols in soil-water systems.  相似文献

Amphiphilic nonionic cross-linked nanopolymers (NPs) were synthesized to examine removal of five organochlorines (OCs), namely lindane, heptachlor, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, and DDT, from a range of Thai agricultural soils. The synthesized NP particles had polarity characteristics similar to those of nonionic surfactant micelles and were largely in the size range of 55-155 nm. This work aimed to determine the optimal conditions for leaching of OC contaminated soil with NPs and also to investigate the role and influence of soil properties on this leaching. An investigation of the concentrations of aqueous dispersions of these particles found that a concentration of 10 g L(-1). was found most effective in leaching the OCs from a column of spiked soil. The optimal contact time that allowed a NP dispersion and spiked soil to reach equilibrium was 48 h. The results indicated influencing factors for OC removal and soil remediation were properties both of the soil and the compounds themselves. Soil organic carbon (SOC) content and soil texture played an important role on the sorption as well as compound hydrophobicity expressed as log K(OW) values. The removal efficiency was found to be in the range of 85.2-92.8 % for all soil samples and in the order of DDT < aldrin < heptachlor < dieldrin < endrin < lindane regardless of soil type. This order is inversely related to the log K(OC) values of these compounds. For OC compounds with a similar molecular structure, removal efficiency was related to molecular weight (MW).  相似文献

Correlation relationships between physico-chemical properties including vapor pressures (P), water solubilities (S), Henry's law constants (H(c)), n-octanol-water partition coefficients (K(ow)), sediment-water partition coefficient (K(pw)) and biotic lipid-water partition coefficient (K(bw), bioconcentration factor) of polychlorinated-dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and their gas chromatographic retention indices (GC-RIs) were established. A model equation between GC-RIs (= RI) and these physico-chemical properties (K) of PCDFs was in a form of log K = aRI2 + bRI + c with correlation coefficients (R2) greater than 0.94, except H(c). These equations were derived from six experimental data (five experimental data for log K(bw)) in each physico-chemical properties of PCDFs reported previously. The values of log P, log S, log H(c), log K(ow), log K(pw) and log K(bw) of PCDFs predicted by these equations based on their GC-RIs in the present study derviated from those calculated by the solubility parameters for fate analysis method in a previous study by 0.49, 0.32, 0.11, 0.34, 0.14 and 0.22 log units, respectively.  相似文献

The logarithm of the partition coefficients in the n-octanol-water system, log P, of 21 chlorinated phenols, guaiacols and catechols are determined, by both shake-flask gas chromatography (GC) and high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). In the shake-flask GC method, the water phase, after equilibration with spiked octanol, was analysed by glass capillary GC with electron capture detection. The relative responses of individual phenols were compared with those from before partition, and the partition coefficients were calculated. In the HPLC method, the capacity factors were used for calculating the log P values by calibration using four chlorophenols with known log P values. The use of short columns with 3 μm packing materials, combined with amperometric detection, offers fast and sensitive determinations. The results from both these methods have high precision, and agree well with the values calculated according to Hansch (1). The small deviations between the results obtained by shake-flask GC and HPLC for the compounds which have high dipole moments can be explained by the influence of different dipole moments and hydrogen bonding affinities in the solute-solvent and solute-stationary phase interactions. Compared with these interactions, the salt effect for concentrations lower than 1 M sodium chloride is negligible.  相似文献

Dissolved humic substances (DHSs) are the major components of organic matter in the aquatic environment. DHSs are well known to considerably affect the speciation, solubility, and toxicity of a wide variety of pollutants in the aquatic environment. In this study, the effects of the toxicity of heavy metals and hydrophobic organic pollutants (HOPs) on Chlamydomonas reinhardtii in the presence of humic acid (HA) were examined by a microscale algal growth inhibition (μ-AGI) test based on spectrophotometric detection. To clarify the relationship between the chemical properties of HAs and the toxicity change of pollutants, eight HAs from different sources were prepared and used. HAs were responsible for mitigating the toxicity of Hg, Cu, pesticides (γ-HCH, 2,4-D, and DDT), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) such as naphthalene (Nap), anthracene (Ant), and benzo[a]pyrene (BaP). In particular, an approximately 100-fold decrease in the toxicity of BaP was observed in the presence of 10 ppm HAs extracted from tropical peat. The results indicated that the carboxylic group content and the HA molecular weight are correlated to the changes in the heavy metal toxicity. For HOPs, the aromaticity and polarity of HAs are crucial for mitigating their toxicity. Furthermore, it was clearly shown that the lake water including a high concentration of DHSs collected from Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, reduced the toxicity of Hg and γ-HCH on Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

The effects of two humic acids (HAs) of different origins on the photodegradation of the chloroacetanilide herbicides acetochlor, propisochlor and butachlor were investigated in this study. One of the tested HAs was a standard sample that was purchased from a commercial source, and the other was isolated from the black soil of Northeast China. The photolysis of all three herbicides followed pseudo-first-order kinetics under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation conditions, regardless of whether HAs were present or not. Both HAs improved the photolysis rates of acetochlor in a dose-reversed way, whereas they inhibited butachlor degradation under all experimental concentrations. The two HAs differed in their effects on propisochlor photolysis, changing from enhancement to inhibition, depending on the origin and concentration of HAs. Element and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy analyses showed that the isolated HAs had more polysaccharides and less aliphatic groups than the commercial HAs, and it was indicated that some characteristic radicals (C═O, O─H and phenolic hydroxyls) in HAs were involved in the photolysis of the herbicides. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analyses indicated that the presence of HAs had no effects on the photolysis pathway and photoproduct species of the three herbicides.  相似文献
