The complexity of development activities, in which the interactions between various forces often mean that outcomes are unpredictable and unanticipated, highlights the importance of objective and comprehensive evaluations. In the specific case of the evaluation of towns east and south of Colombo water supply projects, the findings have major implications for the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, if the water-related objectives are to be fulfilled. The study found that 30% of the households of these towns that are receiving clean, piped water are not using it for drinking. Instead, they are continuing to drink contaminated well water. Whereas it is considered that the main beneficiaries of water supply projects have been women and people who are sick, elderly, or disabled, the general perception is that the health conditions of the families have not improved with the provision of clean water (in fact, many claim that their health conditions have deteriorated). In spite of the higher cost of the supplied water, people are willing to pay for it as long as the supply is reliable.  相似文献

In this review of lysimeters, different aspects concerning soil-filling technique, lysimeter size and materials, and drainage-system type are discussed. The placement of lysimeters in the field is dealt with, as are other types of field measurements that can provide complementary information. Evaluations of various properties are based on the assumption that the lysimeters are to be used for estimating pesticide leaching. Guidelines for use in designing a suitable lysimeter experiment for this purpose are described, with special emphasis placed on using the results as a basis for pesticide registration. In this context, some general recommendations are identified. Concerning the lysimeter itself, stress is placed on the importance of using undisturbed soil monoliths. It is recommended that two soil types, i.e. sand and clay, be used and that the management practices carried out closely resemble normal farming practices. Further recommendations include weekly water sampling, two watering regimes, and use of the normal and double the normal application rate of pesticides.  相似文献

Strobilurins are natural products isolated and identified from specific fungi. Natural strobilurins were named in the order of their discovery as strobilurin-A followed by strobilurin-B, C, D etc. Their discovery opened the door for new chemistry of synthetic fungicides. Applying Quantitative Structural Activity Relationship (QSAR) on the structures of the natural strobilurins, many pesticide companies were able to discover many synthetic analogues that are more efficacious and more stable fungicides. At present there are about eight synthetic strobilurins in the fungicides worldwide market. Some of these products are worldwide registered for use as agrochemical and some are in the process of registration. This class of fungicides is relatively new, as crop protection products and information about them is still fairly scarce. In this review, syntheses and chemistry of natural and synthetic strobilurins are discussed. Also, the mode of action, efficacy, biotic/abiotic degradation, analytical methods, and agricultural uses are discussed.  相似文献

Receptor models for air pollutants in an airshed are constructed from a set of measured concentrations and used for apportioning sources in a quantitative way. Such a dataset even if large is but a sample from the population of pollutants occurring over time in the airshed. Thus the ensuing receptor model and its parameters constitute but one realization of a range of possible experiments. The problem studied in this paper is how large the inherent ranges of variation of the model parameters are, i.e. how reliable the model is. Factor analysis models, where data are autoscaled prior to analysis, were selected for study.Pseudo-repetitions of the experiment are carried out by bootstrapping of the original data and statistics on the model parameters are compiled and reported. The validity of the results of such numerical experiments are based on the assumption that the original data are really representative since by bootstrapping, new artificial data are generated from this set. A number of screening tests for acceptance of data and models are applied to avoid bias and errors in the results. Means and standard deviations of communalities and factor loadings are computed and compared to the original parameters. Regression analysis is used in a search for functional relationships between standard deviations and model parameters.The general conclusion is that well modelled variables carry little model uncertainty and that the largest standard deviations amounting to about 10% are found for loadings in the mid-range.  相似文献

A physical explanation of the lognormality of pollutant concentrations   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
Investigators in different environmental fields have reported that the concentrations of various measured substances have frequency distributions that are lognormal, or nearly so. That is, when the logarithms of the observed concentrations are plotted as a frequency distribution, the resulting distribution is approximately normal, or Gaussian, over much of the observed range. Examples include radionuclides in soil, pollutants in ambient air, indoor air quality, trace metals in streams, metals in biological tissue, calcium in human remains. The ubiquity of the lognormal distribution in environmental processes is surprising and has not been adequately explained, since common processes in nature (for example, computation of the mean and the analysis of error) usually give rise to distributions that are normal rather than lognormal. This paper takes the first step toward explaining why lognormal distributions can arise naturally from certain physical processes that are analogous to those found in the environment. In this paper, these processes are treated mathematically, and the results are illustrated in a laboratory beaker experiment that is simulated on the computer.  相似文献

近年来 ,诸多国家在环境微生物领域先后开展了分子生物学研究方法的建立和生物学评价工作。一些不依靠纯培养的微生物群落的分析方法已得到广泛应用和发展。荧光原位杂交 (FISH)技术 ,具有细胞在测定过程中不被破坏、形状不改变、特异性强、能够真实反映在自然环境下微生物的情况及分布等特点 ,在环境微生物群落探测分析中已逐渐被广泛应用。该技术利用带有荧光标记的特异性寡核苷酸探针 ,与细胞内相应的靶核糖体结合 ,能将微生物探测、鉴定到属和种的水平。运用于硝化细菌、除磷细菌和丝状微生物等废水处理中常见的特征性微生物种群和群落生态学研究中 ,颇为高效。该技术的应用避免了传统培养方法进行鉴定和计数的局限性 ,在环境微生物生态学解析中具有较高应用价值。  相似文献

Synthetic routes for the preparation of halogenated diphenyl ethers and dibenzofurans are reviewed, and isomers reported in the literature are listed. In addition, the routes preferred for the synthesis of specific chlorinated isomers - especially from the point of view of an unambiguous structural assignment - are discussed in detail. The route recommended for chlorinated diphenyl ethers is the coupling of biaryliodonium salts with phenols, and for chlorinated dibenzofurans the palladium acetate-promoted cyclization of diphenyl ethers. Chlorinated isomers of diphenyl ethers and dibenzofurans which are available via these routes are listed. Furthermore, the synthesis of a new octachlorodiphenyliodonium salt and its coupling with three different chlorophenols are described, and the cyclization of an octachlorodiphenyl ether to octachlorodibenzofuran is shown.  相似文献

In this paper, dichromate and dichlorvos are selected as the deputies of inorganic and organic pollutants, respectively, and TiO2/beads is used as a photocatalyst. The effects of various parameters, such as the amount of the photocatalyst, H2O2 concentration, metal ions, anions, pH value, and organic compounds on the photocatalytic reduction of dichromate and photocatalytic oxidation of dichlorvos are studied. From the studies, the differences of the parameters effect on the photocatalytic degradation of organic and inorganic pollutants are obtained. The results show that the optimum amount of the photocatalyst used is 6.0 g cm(-3) for the photocatalytic reactions. With the addition of a small amount of H2O2, the photocatalytic reduction of dichromate is inhibited while the photocatalytic oxidation of dichlorvos is accelerated. With the addition of trace amounts of Fe3+ or Cu2+, both the reactions are accelerated, and with the addition of Zn2+ and Na+, no obvious effects on the reactions are observed. Acidic solution is favorable for the photocatalytic reduction of dichromate; and acidic and alkaline solutions are favorable for the photocatalytic oxidation of dichlorvos. Adding SO4(2-), the photocatalytic oxidation is accelerated and adding Cl- the reaction is inhibited; and with the addition of trace amounts of SO4(2-), Cl- and NO3-, no obvious effects on the photocatalytic reduction of dichromate are observed. With the addition of methanol and toluene, the photocatalytic reduction of dichromate is accelerated, and the photocatalytic oxidation of dichlorvos is inhibited. The possible roles of the additives on the reactions are also discussed.  相似文献

The sensitivity of mesoscale simulations of land and sea breeze circulation on the south east coast in the Chennai region of India to boundary layer turbulence parameterizations is studied using the community based PSU/NCAR mesoscale model MM5. High-resolution simulations are carried out with nested domains. Four widely used boundary layer turbulence parameterization schemes are selected for the study. Two of these schemes (Blackadar (BK) and medium range forecast (MRF)) are simple first-order non-local schemes and the other two (Mellor–Yamada (MY) Eta planetary boundary layer (PBL) and Gayno–Seaman (GS)) are more complex 1.5 order local schemes that include a prognostic equation for turbulence kinetic energy. The other physics used in the model are identical. The micro-meteorological tower and flux observations, GP sonde and radiosonde observations from the study region are used to compare the simulated mean variables. In spite of differences in complexity, all the schemes show similar capability in simulating the boundary layer temperature, humidity and winds. The land–sea breeze circulation and internal boundary layer formation, which are special phenomena at the coastal site, could be simulated by all the schemes. The BK, MRF schemes produced boundary layers that are more mixed than those produced with the MY and GS schemes. While all the schemes underestimated surface sensible heat fluxes during stable night conditions they are reasonably simulated during daytime by MRF and BK schemes. Among the tested schemes, the BK scheme has reasonably produced the PBL height, humidity, wind fields and proves suitable for operational forecasting. The results suggest that there is little improvement in overall accuracy of predictions with more complex turbulence parameterizations.  相似文献

Two approaches for identification of source locations and preferred transport pathways of atmospheric particulate trace elements and aerosol species are investigated, namely, versions of the potential source contribution function method (PSCF) and the concentration field method (CF). Both methods are based on combining chemical data with calculated air parcel backward trajectories. The two methods are applied to four multi-species multi-annual concentration time series measured at sites in Finland, Norway, and Israel. A non-parametric bootstrap technique is used to estimate the statistical significance of the calculated PSCF values. It is found that the methods agree well with each other and correctly identify known emission sources. Examples of applying the methods are presented, mainly for the site in Finland.  相似文献
