Diurnal radon concentrations were measured in a school and an office that exhibited high average annual radon concentrations from passive alpha track detector measurements. The diurnal measurements in both cases showed very high nighttime concentrations (3000–6000 Bq m−3) and low daytime concentrations under the action level of 200 Bq m−3 used in Norway. These results suggest that the only way to accurately assess radon exposure in day-use buildings is to include measurements of radon concentrations limited to the hours when the buildings are actually in use.  相似文献

226Ra, 232Th and 40K analysis has been carried out in soil samples collected from some areas of Himachal Pradesh, India using γ-ray spectrometry. The measured activity in soil ranges from 42.09 to 79.63 Bq kg−1, 52.83 to 105.81 Bq kg−1 and 95.33 to 160.30 Bq kg−1 for 226Ra, 232Th and 40K with the mean values of 57.34, 82.22 and 135.75 Bq kg−1, respectively. The measured activity concentration of 226Ra and 232Th in soil samples collected from these areas is higher and for 40K is lower than the world average. The radium equivalent activity in all the soil samples is lower than the safe limit set in the OECD report (370 Bq kg−1). The value of the external exposure dose has been determined from the content of these radionuclides in soil. It has been observed that on the average, the outdoor terrestrial gamma air absorbed dose rate is about 83.28 nGy h−1. The study yields an annual effective dose in the range of 0.07–0.13 mSv. The average value of annual effective dose lies in the global range of outdoor radiation exposure given in United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) [(2000). Effects and risks of ionizing radiations. UN, NY]. The activity concentration of 238U has also been determined using fission track technique and the values range from 3.26 to 7.71 mg kg−1 with a mean value of 4.38 mg kg−1.  相似文献

222Rn concentrations in the air in Nerja Cave (Spain) have been measured over 4 yr and at four sampling points. Concentrations average 168 Bq m-3 in the spring–summer when the temperature lapse rate provides a stable cave atmosphere. In the autumn–winter, the radon levels decrease to 48 Bq m-3. 222Rn flux has also been measured for soils in the cave, with an average value of 34 × 10-3 Bq m-2 s-1. The average natural flow rate in the spring–summer is about 0.70 m3 s-1 and the autumn–winter is approximately 3.6 m3 s-1 determined over 1992–1995. The radiation exposure levels for workers and tourists represent only a low percentage of the exposure guides for the general population.  相似文献

Carbon dioxide (CO2) release from manure was investigated under field conditions in one of the compartments in a mechanically ventilated fattening pig house. The potential of CO2 release was tested in the emptied compartment by imposing high ventilation rate and measuring CO2 concentrations in the incoming and exhaust air. When the compartment was filled with pigs, a model of tranquil CO2 exhalation rate (TCER) was used to estimate the part of CO2 produced by animals, in addition to the measurement of CO2 concentrations and ventilation rate. Useful data were extracted from 135 days of continuously measured field data obtained when the housing system was in steady-state. The CO2 release per m2 of pit surface was 18.4 and 25.8 g h−1 m−2 in the emptied pig compartment during the impulse and pulse ventilation rate tests, respectively. It ranged from 1.1 and 116.7 g h−1 m−2 and averaged 42.1 g h−1 m−2 during the 135-day continuous field measurement. In 128 of the 135 days when the compartment was filled with pigs, the mean CO2 release from the manure reached an average of 37.5% of the TCER by pigs, instead of less than 5% believed by many researchers. The maximum CO2 release rate in 2-h steady-state measurements was 94% of the TCER by pigs. This research demonstrated that, in the previous knowledge, there might be a serious underestimation of the CO2 release from the manure in pig houses. The total pig weight, manure temperature and ventilation rate were found the most important variables related to the CO2 release. A mathematical model was developed to estimate the CO2 release as a function of these three variables with R2=0.525.  相似文献

Exhalation of carbon dioxide (CO2) by pigs was investigated under field conditions in a mechanically ventilated commercial fattening house. The tranquil CO2 exhalation rate (TCER) by pigs was defined and methodology was developed to study it. The experiments were conducted by moving groups of pigs in and out of one of the compartments in the house and comparing differences of measured CO2 production rates. The measured TCERs ranged from 41.5 to 73.9 g CO2 h−1 per pig for pigs from 32 to 105 kg. When pigs were very active, the CO2 exhalation rate could be about 200% of the TCER but did not last for long time. A TCER mathematical model was developed based on 4 sets of experiments. It calculated the CO2 exhalation by a pig at tranquil time as a function of its weight. Daily mean CO2 exhalation rate (CER) by a pig was about 110% of the TCER. The TCER/CER model related the CO2 exhalation to some aspects of pigs’ behaviours and was the first reported model developed with direct measurement of CO2 production rates. Five models of CO2 exhalation in available literature were reviewed and the CER model was compared with them. There was a clear disparity among these models. The average CO2 exhalation rate calculated with the “Ouwerkerk Model” was about three times as that obtained by the “Anderson Model” for pigs from 35 to 120 kg. The CER model produced the same CO2 exhalation rate as the “Ouwerkerk Model” for a pig of 35 kg and a close rate to the “Klooster Model” for a pig of 85 kg.  相似文献

Recent studies have indicated that Dechlorane Plus (DP) is widespread in the environments. However, different isomer-specific enrichment pattern of syn-DP and anti-DP was reported in biological samples from the field. In this study, Sprague–Dawley rats were consecutively exposed to commercial DP 25 by gavage for 90 d at different doses (0, 1, 10, and 100 mg kg?1 d?1) to investigate the accumulation pattern of syn-DP and anti-DP in liver, muscle, and serum of rats. The possible biological effects of DP on rats were also examined. Results showed that DP preferentially accumulated in the liver rather than in muscle at all exposure levels. No significant stereoselectivity of anti-DP or syn-DP in tissues was observed in the low DP exposure groups (0 and 1 mg kg?1 d?1) with fanti values (defined as the concentration of the anti-DP divided by the sum of concentrations of anti- and syn-DP) ranging from 0.74 to 0.78. However, fanti values reduced (fanti ranged from 0.26 to 0.30) significantly in the high DP exposure groups (10 and 100 mg kg?1 d?1) and syn-DP was predominant in all tissues. Biochemical parameters in serum, the mRNA expression levels of certain enzymes and their activities in liver were detected. There was no observable-effect in histopathology and death during the experiment, although the mRNA expression levels of some genes in the low dosage group decreased significantly and enzyme activity of CYP 2B2 increased.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to quantify the concentration and emission levels of sulfuric odorous compounds emitted from pig-feeding operations. Five types of pig-housing rooms were studied: gestation, farrowing, nursery, growing and fattening rooms. The concentration range of sulfuric odorous compounds in these pig-housing rooms were 30–200 ppb for hydrogen sulfide (H2S), 2.5–20 ppb for methyl mercaptan (CH3SH), 1.5–12 ppb for dimethyl sulfide (DMS; CH3SCH3) and 0.5–7 ppb for dimethyl disulfide (DMDS; CH3S2CH3), respectively. The emission rates of H2S, CH3SH, DMS and DMDS were estimated by multiplying the average concentration (mg m−3) measured near the air outlet by the mean ventilation rate (m3 h−1) and expressed either per area (mg m−2 h−1) or animal unit (AU; liveweight of the pig, 500 kg) (mg pig−1 h−1). As a result, the emission rates of H2S, CH3SH, DMS and DMDS in the pig-housing rooms were 14–64, 0.8–7.3, 0.4–3.4 and 0.2–1.9 mg m−2 h−1, respectively, based on pig's activity space and 310–723, 18–80, 9–39 and 5–22 mg AU−1 h−1, respectively, based on pig's liveweight, which indicates that their emission rates were similar, whether based upon the pig's activity space or liveweight. In conclusion, the concentrations and emission rates of H2S were highest in the fattening room followed by the growing, nursery, farrowing and gestation rooms whereas those of CH3SH, DMS and DMDS concentrations were largest in the growing room followed by the nursery, gestation and farrowing rooms.  相似文献

During a one-year period, from November 1998 upto October 1999, the atmospheric activity concentrations of the short-lived (222Rn)-progeny (218Po, 214Pb, 214Po) were measured every 4 h in the open air, using α-spectrometry. The concentration data of short-lived radon progeny together with meteorological variables (relative humidity, air temperature, and wind speed) were used for a comprehensive regression analysis of daily time variation of radioactivity in the air. The seasonal concentration pattern of all short-lived radon progeny shows the same trend for diurnal variation with higher values at night and early morning hours compared with lower values at noon and in afternoon. The activity concentrations were observed to be higher during the winter months (November–January) than in other seasons. The mean activity concentrations of 218Po, 214Pb and 214Po within the whole year were found to be 6.7±0.8, 4.9±0.5 and 4.4±0.3 Bq m−3, respectively. Also, within that time period, approximately 120 samples were analysed to determine the concentrations of the long-lived radon decay product 210Pb and the cosmogenic radionuclide 7Be using a single-filter technique. The course of 210Pb air concentration is characterized by higher values in autumn/winter season and lower values in spring/summer season. The seasonal concentration pattern of 7Be reaches regular maximum values in the spring to early summer months. The annual average concentration values of 210Pb and 7Be have been found to be 0.37±0.06 and 2.0±0.09 mBq m−3, respectively. A mean aerosol mass concentration of 36.6±6.2 μg m−3 was also determined during the measurements of the long-lived radionuclides. The majority of attached 210Pb and 7Be were observed at lower aerosol mass concentrations while small fractions of attached activities were found to be associated with the higher mass concentrations.  相似文献

The distribution of dimethylsuphide (DMS) and its precursor dimethylsulphoniopropionate, in both particulate (DMSPp) and dissolved fractions (DMSPd) was surveyed along estuarine water profiles of Canal de Mira (Ria de Aveiro, Portugal), on 45 occasions during one year. The field campaigns revealed pronounced gradients, which were to some extent interpreted with reference to supporting hydrographic parameters like salinity, temperature and chlorophyll a. Surface water concentrations showed a clear seasonal variation with peak values during the warmer months. Mean summer concentrations for DMS, DMSPp and DMSPd, were, respectively, a factor of 1.8, 1.9 and 2.9 times higher than winter concentrations. Surface water concentration was the main factor controlling DMS emissions into the atmosphere, which were estimated to be, as a mean, 5.4 and 27.3 nmol m-2 h-1 for winter and summer, respectively. In addition, DMS fluxes from two intertidal mud flat sites in Canal de Mira were examined monthly over a year. Average emission rates were a factor of 2–5 times higher than those estimated for estuarine waters and revealed strong seasonal variations, with summer peaks apparently related to ambient temperature. The relative contribution of estuarine waters and mud flats for local DMS budget is discussed in terms of tidal cycles and exposed surface area.  相似文献

Uptake of aromatic hydrocarbons (AH) by ice crystals during vapor deposit growth was investigated in a walk-in cold chamber at temperatures of 242, 251, and 260 K, respectively. Ice crystals were grown from ambient air in the presence of gaseous AH namely: benzene (C6H6), toluene (methylbenzene, C7H8), the C8H10 isomers ethylbenzene, o-, m-, p-xylene (dimethylbenzenes), the C9H12 isomers n-propylbenzene, 4-ethyltoluene, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (1,3,5-TMB), 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene (1,2,4-TMB), 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene (1,2,3-TMB), and the C10H14 compound tert.-butylbenzene. Gas-phase concentrations calculated at 295 K were 10.3–20.8 μg m−3. Uptake of AH was detected by analyzing vapor deposited ice with a very sensitive method composed of solid-phase micro-extraction (SPME), followed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS).Ice crystal size was lower than 1 cm. At water vapor extents of 5.8, 6.0 and 8.1 g m−3, ice crystal shape changed with decreasing temperatures from a column at a temperature of 260 K, to a plate at 251 K, and to a dendrite at 242 K. Experimentally observed ice growth rates were between 3.3 and 13.3×10−3 g s−1 m−2 and decreased at lower temperatures and lower value of water vapor concentration. Predicted growth rates were mostly slightly higher.Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) were not detected in ice above their detection limits (DLs) of 25 pg gice−1 (toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes) and 125 pg gice−1 (benzene) over the entire temperature range. Median concentrations of n-propylbenzene, 4-ethyltoluene, 1,3,5-TMB, tert.-butylbenzene, 1,2,4-TMB, and 1,2,3-TMB were between 4 and 176 pg gice−1 at gas concentrations of 10.3–10.7 μg m−3 calculated at 295 K. Uptake coefficients (K) defined as the product of concentration of AH in ice and density of ice related to the product of their concentration in the gas phase and ice mass varied between 0.40 and 10.23. K increased with decreasing temperatures. Values of Gibbs energy (ΔG) were between −4.5 and 2.4 kJ mol−1 and decreased as temperatures were lowered. From the uptake experiments, the uptake enthalpy (ΔH) could be determined between −70.6 and −33.9 kJ mol−1. The uptake entropy (ΔS) was between −281.3 and −126.8 J mol−1 K−1. Values of ΔH and ΔS were rather similar for 4-ethlytoluene, 1,3,5-TMB and tert.-butylbenzene, whereas 1,2,3-TMB showed much higher values.  相似文献

A new algorithm has been derived for trajectory models to determine the transfer coefficient of each source along or adjacent to a trajectory and to calculate the concentrations of SO2, NOx, sulfate, nitrate, fine particulate matter (PM) and coarse PM at a receptor. The transfer coefficient tf (s m−1) is defined to be the ratio between the contributed concentration ΔC (μg m−3) to the receptor from a ground source and the emission rate of the source q (μg m−2 s−1) at a grid, i.e. tf≡ΔC/q. The model is developed by combining with a backward trajectory scheme and a circuit-type's parameterization. First, the transfer coefficients of grids along or adjacent a back-trajectory are calculated. Then, the contributed concentration of each emission grid is determined by multiplying its emission rate with the transfer coefficient of the grid. Finally, the concentration at the receptor is determined by the summation of all the contributed concentrations within the domain of simulation.  相似文献

Isoprene emission capacity measurements are presented from 18 North American oak (Quercus) species and species from six other genera previously found to emit significant quantities of isoprene. Sampling was conducted at physiographically diverse locations in North Carolina, Central California, and Northern Oregon. Emissions from several sun leaves of each species were measured at or near standard conditions (leaf temperature of 30°C and photosynthetically active radiation of 1000 μmol m−2 s−1) using environmentally controlled cuvette systems and gas chromatography with reduction gas detectors. Species mean emission capacity ranged from 39 to 158 μg C g−1 h−1 (mean of 86), or 22 to 79 nmol m−2 s−1 (mean of 44). These rates are 2–28 times higher than those previously reported from the same species, which were summarized in a recent study where isoprene emission rates were assigned based on published data and taxonomy. These discrepancies were attributed to differences in leaf environment during development, measurement technique (branch or plant enclosure versus leaf enclosure), and lack of environmental measurements associated with some of the earlier branch enclosure measurements. Mass-based emission capacities for 15 of 18 oak species, sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), and poplars (Populus trichocarpa and P. deltoides) were within ranges used in current biogenic volatile organic compound (BVOC) emission models, while measured rates for the remaining three oak species, Nyssa sylvatica, Platanus occidentalis, Robinia pseudoacacia, Salix nigra, and Populus hybrids (Populus trichocarpa × P. deltoides) were considerably higher. In addition, mean specific leaf mass of the oak species was 30% higher than assumed in current emission models. Emission rates reported here and in other recent studies support recent conclusions that isoprene emission capacities for sun leaves of high emitting species may be better represented by a value of 100±50 μg C g−1 h−1 during hot summer conditions. We also find that intermediate isoprene emission rates previously suggested for some tree species may not represent their true emission capacities, and that broadleaf plant species may have either low (<1.0 μg C g−1 h−1) or very high (∼100 μg C g−1 h−1) genetic capacity to emit isoprene when mature foliage is exposed to a high ambient temperature and light environment.  相似文献

Steppe ecosystems are regarded as an important sink of atmospheric methane (CH4) and grazing is hypothesized to reduce CH4 uptake. However, firm experimental evidence is required to prove this hypothesis. Using a fully automated, chamber-based measuring system, we conducted continuous high-frequency (at a 3-h interval) measurements of CH4 uptake in a Leymus chinensis steppe, which is a typical grassland ecosystem in Inner Mongolia, China. Two management regimes were investigated: ungrazed since 1999 (UG99) and winter-grazed since 2001 (WG01). Measurements were carried out continuously during the periods of June–September 2004, May–September 2005 and March–June 2006. During all of these periods, significantly lower mean CH4 uptake (±S.E.) at WG01 (28±0.7 μg C m−2 h−1) as compared to UG99 (56±1.0 μg C m−2 h−1) (p<0.01) was found. Total CH4 uptake during the growing seasons (May–September) 2004 and 2005 at WG01 and UG99 was quantified as 1.15 and 2.15 kg C ha−1, respectively. Annual rates of CH4 uptake were approximately 1.91 (WG01) and 3.58 kg C ha−1 (UG99), respectively. These results indicate that winter-grazing of steppe significantly reduced atmospheric CH4 uptake by ca. 47%. The winter-grazing practice may have inhibited CH4 uptake by (a) increasing the likelihood of physiological water stress for CH4-consuming bacteria during dry periods, (b) decreasing gas diffusion into the soil and, (c) reducing the populations of CH4 oxidizing bacteria. These three mechanisms could have collectively or independently facilitated the observed inhibitory effects. Our results suggest that grazing exerts a considerable negative impact on CH4 uptake in semi-arid steppes at regional scales. Notwithstanding, further studies involving year-round, intensive measurements of CH4 uptake are needed.  相似文献

Aromatic hydrocarbons are important constituents of vehicle exhaust and of non-methane volatile organic compounds in ambient air in urban areas. It has recently been proposed that dealkylation is a significant pathway for the OH radical-initiated reactions, leading to the formation of phenolic compounds and/or oxepins (Noda, J., Volkamer, R., Molina, M.J., 2009. Dealkylation of alkylbenzenes: a significant pathway in the toluene, o-, m-, and p-xylene + OH reaction. Journal of Physical Chemistry A 113, 9658–9666.). We have investigated the formation of cresols from the reactions of OH radicals with m-xylene and p-cymene, and obtain upper limits of <1% for formation of each cresol isomer from OH + m-xylene and <2% for formation of each cresol isomer from OH + p-cymene. In addition, we have measured the formation yield of 4-methylacetophenone (the major product formed subsequent to H-atom abstraction from the CH(CH3)2 group) in the OH + p-cymene reaction to be 14.8 ± 3.2%, and estimate that H-atom abstraction from the CH3 and CH(CH3)2 groups in p-cymene accounts for 20 ± 4% of the overall OH radical reaction. We also used a relative rate technique to measure the rate constant for the reaction of OH radicals with 4-methylacetophenone to be (4.50 ± 0.43) × 10?12 cm3 molecule?1 s?1 at 297 ± 2 K.  相似文献

We determined hourly emissions of isoprene, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes from Siberian larch, one of the major tree species in Siberian forests. Summer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission from Siberian larch consisted mainly of monoterpenes (about 90%). The monoterpene emission spectrum remained constant during the measurement period, almost half was sabinene and other major monoterpenes were Δ3-carene, β- and α-pinene. During spring and summer, about 10% of the VOCs were sesquiterpenes, mainly α-farnesene. The sesquiterpene emissions declined to 3% in the fall. Isoprene, 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol (MBO) and 1,8-cineole contributed to less than 3% of the VOC emission during the whole period. The diurnal variation of the emissions could be explained using a temperature-dependent parameterization. Emission potentials normalized to 30 °C were 5.2–21 μg gdw−1 h−1 (using β-value of 0.09 °C−1) for monoterpenes and 0.4–1.8 μg gdw−1 h−1 (using β-value of 0.143 °C−1, mean of determined values) for sesquiterpenes. Normalized monoterpene emission potentials were highest in late summer and elevated again in late fall. Sesquiterpene emission potentials were also highest in late summer, but decreased towards fall.  相似文献

A review of the physical characteristics of sulfur-containing aerosols, with respect to size distribution of the physical distributions, sulfur distributions, distribution modal characteristics, nuclei formation rates, aerosol growth characteristics, and in situ measurement, has been made.Physical size distributions can be characterized well by a trimodal model consisting of three additive lognormal distributions. When atmospheric physical aerosol size distributions are characterized by the trimodal model, the following typical modal parameters are observed:1. Nuclei mode – geometric mean size by volume, DGVn, from 0.015 to 0.04 μm. σgn=1.6, nucler mode volumes from 0.0005 over the remote oceans to 9 μm3 cm−3 on an urban freeway.2. Accumulation mode – geometric mean size by volume, DGVa, from 0.15 to 0.5 μm, σga=1.6–2.2 and mode volume concentrations from 1 for very clean marine or continental backgrounds to as high as 300 μm3 cm−3 under very polluted conditions in urban areas.3. Coarse particle mode – geometric mean size by volume, DGVc, from 5 to 30 μm, σgn=2–3, and mode volume concentrations from 2 to 1000 μm3 cm−3.It has also been concluded that the fine particles (Dp<2 μm) are essentially independent in formation, transformation and removal from the coarse particles (Dp>2 μm).Modal characterization of impactor-measured sulfate size distributions from the literature shows that the sulfate is nearly all in the accumulation mode and has the same size distribution as the physical accumulation mode distribution.Average sulfate aerodynamic geometric mean dia. was found to be 0.48±0.1 μm (0.37±0.1 μm vol. dia.) and σg=2.00±0.29. Concentrations range from a low of about 0.04 μg m−3 over the remote oceans to over 8 μg m−3 under polluted conditions over the continents.Review of the data on nucleation in smog chambers and in the atmosphere suggests that when SO2, is present, SO2-to-aerosol conversion dominates the Aitken nuclei count and, indirectly, through coagulation and condensation, the accumulation mode size and concentration. There are indications that nucleation is ubiquitous in the atmosphere, ranging from values as low as 2 cm−3 h−1 over the clean remote oceans to a high of 6×106 cm−3 h−1 in a power plant plume under sunny conditions. There is considerable theoretical and experimental evidence that even if most of the mass for the condensational growth of the accumulation mode comes from hydrocarbon conversion, sulfur conversion provides most of the nuclei.  相似文献

Behavioral and environmental determinants of PM2.5 personal exposures were analyzed for 201 randomly selected adult participants (25–55 years old) of the EXPOLIS study in Helsinki, Finland. Personal exposure concentrations were higher than respective residential outdoor, residential indoor and workplace indoor concentrations for both smokers and non-smokers. Mean personal exposure concentrations of active smokers (31.0±31.4 μg m−3) were almost double those of participants exposed to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) (16.6±11.8 μg m−3) and three times those of participants not exposed to tobacco smoke (9.9±6.2 μg m−3). Mean indoor concentrations of PM2.5 when a member of the household smoked indoors (20.8±23.9 μg m−3) were approximately 2.5 times the concentrations of PM2.5 when no smoking was reported (8.2±5.2 μg m−3). Interestingly, however, both mean (8.2 μg m−3) and median (6.9 μg m−3) residential indoor concentrations for non-ETS exposed participants were lower than residential outdoor concentrations (9.5 and 7.3 μg m−3, respectively). In simple linear regression models residential indoor concentrations were the best predictors of personal exposure concentrations. Correlations (r2) between PM2.5 personal exposure concentrations of all participants, both smoking and non-smoking, and residential indoor, workplace indoor, residential outdoor and ambient fixed site concentrations were 0.53, 0.38, 0.17 and 0.16, respectively. Predictors for personal exposure concentrations of non-ETS exposed participants identified in multiple regression were residential indoor concentrations, workplace concentrations and traffic density in the nearest street from home, which accounted for 77% of the variance. Subsequently, step-wise regression not including residential and workplace indoor concentrations as input (as these are frequently not available), identified ambient PM2.5 concentration and home location, as predictors of personal exposure, accounting for 47% of the variance. Ambient fixed site PM2.5 concentrations were closely related to residential outdoor concentrations (r2=0.9, p=0.000) and PM2.5 personal exposure concentrations were higher in summer than during other seasons. Personal exposure concentrations were significantly (p=0.040) higher for individuals living downtown compared with individuals in suburban family homes. Further analysis will focus on comparisons of determinants between Helsinki and other EXPOLIS centers.  相似文献

Ammonia-nitrogen flux (NH3-N=(14/17)NH3) was determined from six anaerobic swine waste storage and treatment lagoons (primary, secondary, and tertiary) using the dynamic chamber system. Measurements occurred during the fall of 1998 through the early spring of 1999, and each lagoon was examined for approximately one week. Analysis of flux variation was made with respect to lagoon surface water temperature (∼15 cm below the surface), lagoon water pH, total aqueous phase NHx(=NH3+NH4+) concentration, and total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN). Average lagoon temperatures (across all six lagoons) ranged from approximately 10.3 to 23.3°C. The pH ranged in value from 6.8 to 8.1. Aqueous NHx concentration ranged from 37 to 909 mg N l−1, and TKN varied from 87 to 950 mg N l−1. Fluxes were the largest at the primary lagoon in Kenansville, NC (March 1999) with an average value of 120.3 μg N m−2 min−1, and smallest at the tertiary lagoon in Rocky Mount, NC (November 1998) at 40.7 μg N m−2 min−1. Emission rates were found to be correlated with both surface lagoon water temperature and aqueous NHx concentration. The NH3-N flux may be modeled as ln(NH3-N flux)=1.0788+0.0406TL+0.0015([NHx]) (R2=0.74), where NH3-N flux is the ammonia flux from the lagoon surface in μg N m−2 min−1, TL is the lagoon surface water temperature in °C, and [NHx] is the total ammonia-nitrogen concentration in mg N l−1.  相似文献

Currently, in operational modelling of NH3 deposition a fixed value of canopy resistance (Rc) is generally applied, irrespective of the plant species and NH3 concentration. This study determined the effect of NH3 concentration on deposition processes to individual moorland species. An innovative flux chamber system was used to provide accurate continuous measurements of NH3 deposition to Deschampsia cespitosa (L.) Beauv., Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull, Eriophorum vaginatum L., Cladonia spp., Sphagnum spp., and Pleurozium schreberi (Brid.) Mitt. Measurements were conducted across a wide range of NH3 concentrations (1–140 μg m−3).NH3 concentration directly affects the deposition processes to the vegetation canopy, with Rc, and cuticular resistance (Rw) increasing with increasing NH3 concentration, for all the species and vegetation communities tested. For example, the Rc for C. vulgaris increased from 14 s m−1 at 2 μg m−3 to 112 s m−1 at 80 μg m−3. Diurnal variations in NH3 uptake were observed for higher plants, due to stomatal uptake; however, no diurnal variations were shown for non-stomatal plants. Rc for C. vulgaris at 80 μg m−3 was 66 and 112 s m−1 during day and night, respectively. Differences were found in NH3 deposition between plant species and vegetation communities: Sphagnum had the lowest Rc (3 s m−1 at 2 μg m−3 to 23 at 80 μg m−3), and D. cespitosa had the highest nighttime value (18 s m−1 at 2 μg m−3 to 197 s m−1 at 80 μg m−3).  相似文献

Nano-MgO is a good bactericide but with strong alkalinity in water due to its rapid hydrolysis. To control its hydrolysis rate and keep its bactericidal properties, we synthesized nano-MgO microspheres using chitosan–alginate system in this study. The synthesized nano-MgO release-controlled microspheres (nMgO-RCM) were with 0.98–1.20 mm of particle sizes. Also, their embedding ratio and loading percentage was 63.52% and 12.27%, respectively. Based on the characterization results, nano-MgO was only observed on surface of the nMgO-RCM. Its release rate from the nMgO-RCM could be controlled by the chitosan–alginate system, and the observed rate constant (kobs) increased from 0.0289 h−1 to 0.0358 h−1 with the increment of the dosage from 10 mg L−1 to 80 mg L−1. Furthermore, the nMgO-RCM could maintain pH value lower than 8.5 and colony counts less than 20 CFU mL−1 for at least 120 h.  相似文献
