This paper reports the preparation of cellulose/xanthan gum composite films and hydrogels through gelation with an ionic liquid. Mixtures of cellulose and xanthan gum in desired weight ratios with an ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BMIMCl), were thinly placed on a Petri dish and heated at 100 °C for 9 h to obtain the solutions. Then, the solutions were left standing at room temperature for 1 day for the progress of gelation. The resulting ion gels were subjected to Soxhlet extraction with ethanol to remove BMIMCl, followed by drying under ambient conditions to obtain the composite films. The crystalline structures of the polysaccharides and the mechanical properties were evaluated by powder X-ray diffraction measurement and tensile testing of the films, respectively. The ion gels in various cellulose/xanthan gum weight ratios, which were prepared in a test tube by the same procedure, were immersed in water for the exchange of disperse media to obtain the cellulose/xanthan gum composite hydrogels. Water contents of all the materials were higher than 90 %. The mechanical properties of the hydrogels were evaluated by compressive testing.  相似文献

In this study, the biodegradation of PLA films using microorganisms from Lake Bogoria (Kenya) were investigated. The biodegradation tests done using certain strains of thermophilic bacteria showed faster biodegradation rates and demonstrated temperature dependency. The biodegradation of the PLA films was studied using Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) and light microscopy. The biodegradation of PLA was demonstrated by decrease in molecular weight. The preparation and characterization of PLA/Gum Arabic blends were also investigated using DSC, TGA, TMA and NMR. In summary, the results obtained in this research show that PLA films undergo fast biodegradation using thermophiles isolated from Lake Bogoria. The PLA/GA blends studies show it is possible to prepare films of varying hydrophobic–hydrophilic properties for various applications.  相似文献

In the present study, influence of talc on thermal, mechanical and rheological behavior of PLA is investigated and the structure?Cproperty correlation for the PLA/talc composites is established. Poly(lactic acid)/talc composites are prepared by melt mixing of PLA with talc in twin screw extruder followed by blown film processing. Various characterizations techniques are used to evaluate thermal, morphological, mechanical and rheological behavior of PLA/talc composites and its blown film. DSC analysis showed that degree of crystallinity of PLA/talc composites was higher than that of neat PLA because of nucleating ability of talc. Spherulite morphology of PLA/talc composites showed that talc has increased nucleation density of spherulite having smaller radius than that of neat PLA. Talc is effective in enhancing tensile modulus and storage modulus of PLA due to reinforcing ability of talc particles.  相似文献

Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) are biodegradable polyesters and can be blended by twin-screw extrusion. Epoxy-functional styrene acrylic copolymer (ESA) was used as reactive agent for PLA/PBAT blends and the mechanical properties, phase morphology, thermal properties, melt properties, and melt rheological behaviors of the blends were investigated. During thermal extrusion, ESA was mainly a chain extender for the PLA matrix but had no evident reaction with PBAT. The great improvement in the toughness of PLA based blends was achieved by the addition of PBAT of no less than 15 wt% and that of ESA of no more than 0.5 wt%. Although SEM micrographs and the reduced deviation of the terminal slope of G′ and G″ indicated better compatibility and adhesion between the two phases, the blend with ESA was still a two-phase system as indicated in DSC curves. Rheological results reveal that the addition of ESA increased the storage modulus (G′), loss modulus (G″) and complex viscosity of the blend at nearly all frequencies. The melt strength and melt elasticity of the blend are improved by addition of ESA.  相似文献

Life cycle analysis (LCA) of limonene plasticized poly(lactic acid) (PLA) films containing cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) extracted, by acid hydrolysis, from Phormium tenax leaf fibres, was assessed and compared with the results of acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) plasticized PLA films, having equivalent mechanical properties, containing organo-modified montmorillonite (OMMT). Eco-Indicator 99 tool has been adopted as the main method for life cycle assessment. Results indicated that, despite CNC are biobased fillers obtained by natural sources, the related chemical extraction leads to a large environmental footprint and a relatively relevant energy expense. LCA characterization of these films demonstrated that the environmental impact of PLA/limonene film reinforced with 1% in weight of CNC (PLA/CNC/limonene) is comparable to the environmental impact of polylactic acid films reinforced with OMMT and plasticized with a petroleum based plasticizer (ATBC) (PLA/OMTT/ATBC). A “cradle to gate” approach has been considered for both the film typologies.  相似文献

In this work, two processing aids, acetyl tri-n-butyl citrate and an alkene bis fatty amide (wax), were investigated for their effects on rheological properties, morphology, thermal transition temperatures, and mechanical properties of the poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/soy protein concentrate blends. Acetyl tri-n-butyl citrate and alkene bis fatty amide played different roles in improving the processability of the blends, with the former functioning as a plasticizer for PLA and the latter as an internal/external lubricant. The amide wax was more effective in reducing blend melt viscosity through its dual functions of internal and external lubrication. Acetyl tri-n-butyl citrate displayed a stronger effect in facilitating PLA nucleation than the amide wax. Both processing aids decreased tensile strength and modulus of the blends and increased break strain and impact strength.  相似文献

Poly(acrylic acid)s (PAAs) with various functional groups, such as phenolic hydroxyl, amino, and aldehyde groups, in the side-chains were treated with manganese peroxidase (MnP) prepared from the culture of lignin-degrading white rot fungi. While no change in the Mw of PAA without a functional group was observed after a 24-h MnP treatment, the Mw␣of␣PAA␣with p-aminophenol as side-chains decreased from 90,000 to 59,000, and that with␣o-aminophenol from 70,000 to 26,000. MnP treatment also decreased the Mw of PAA with a p-aminoaniline or aldehyde group. Furthermore, the MnP treatment generated a significant depolymerization of the cross-linked PAA with p-aminophenol from an insoluble polymer to water soluble products. These results suggest that functional groups generating radicals can act as elemental devices and induce degradation of the PAA main chain.  相似文献

In this study, a Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)/compost composite bead is prepared and is indicated suitable as a filter material for biofiltration. The optimal preparation process is with the compost size of 16–35 mesh, the ratio of water to compost of 40 g/15 g compost, and the immersion time in the phosphate solution of 60 min. The composite bead prepared by this process is a porous spherical particle with a diameter between 2.4 and 6.0 mm and a density of 0.96 g/cm3. It contains 9.43 mg P/g dry solid and 12.1 mg N/g dry solid. The equilibrium moisture content of the composite bead bed from adsorption and holding experiments is 50.5 and 54.6% on a wet basis respectively, which is about 1.74 times higher than that of swine manure compost bed. It corresponds to the optimal filter material required and is sufficient to sustain biological activity as the composite bead adsorbs equilibrium moisture. The bulk compressive strength of the composite bead bed is about 1.15 times larger than that of swine manure compost bed to ensure even distribution of air flow and reduce the head loss as the air flow stream passed through. The pH value of the filter bed could maintain in the 6.9–7.2 range during the operation period due to the composite bead has the phosphate buffer capacity. The percentage of ethyl acetate removal could remain at over 99% for 40 days operation while the composite beads adsorbed inorganic nitrate nutrients. The pressure drop of two kind composite beads and pig manure compost filter beds are 0 and 2 mm H2O, respectively, after operating for 40 days.  相似文献

The rheologies, morphologies, crystallization behaviors, mechanical and thermal properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/polypropylene (PP) blends and PLA/PP/maleic anhydride-grafted PP (MAPP) blends were investigated. The results showed that the complex viscosities of PLA/PP blends were between those of neat PLA and neat PP, and MAPP had a thinning effect on those of the blends. PLA/PP blends exhibited the distinct phase separation morphologies due to the limited partial miscibility of the blend components. MAPP slightly improved the miscibility between PLA and PP. Both the cold crystallization of PLA component and melt crystallization of PP component were enhanced, probably because PLA and PP were reciprocal nucleating agents. The tensile strength and flexural modulus decreased, while the tensile strain at break and heat deflection temperature (HDT) increased with the increasing PP content. MAPP had the positive effects on the notched impact strength and HDT of PLA-rich blends and also increased the flexural modulus of the binary blends. The thermal stability of the blend was improved by PP, and the incorporation of MAPP further enhanced the thermal stability.  相似文献

Pollution and destruction of the environment due to the accumulation of non-degradable plastics are some of the most important concerns in the world. A significant amount of this waste is related to the polymers used in food packaging. Therefore, experts in the food industry have been looking for suitable biodegradable alternatives to synthetic polymers. Preparing biocompatible and biodegradable films based on starch is a good choice. In this study, various factors affecting films of starch/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/containing ZnO nanoparticles such as the amount of starch, PVA, glycerol, and ZnO were evaluated by response surface methodology (RSM). Film formation by solvent casting method, mechanical properties, swelling, solubility, and water vapor permeability (WVP) were selected as responses of RSM. The results showed that hydrogen bonding interactions between polyvinyl alcohol and starch improved the film formation. The effect of glycerol and PVA content on the mechanical strength was contrary to each other. As the amount of PVA increased, the tensile strength first decreased and then increased. The value of WVP was for all Runs from 0 to 6.77?×?10??8 g m??1 s??1 Pa??1. Finally, films with high film formation, maximum tensile strength, and high elongation at break, minimum solubility, permeability, and swelling were optimized.

Natural rubber (NR) with polycaprolactone (PCL) core–shell (NR-ad-PCL), synthesized by admicellar polymerization, was acted as an impact modifier for poly(lactic acid) (PLA). PLA and NR-ad-PCL were melt-blended using a co-rotating twin screw extruder. The morphology of PLA/NR-ad-PCL blends showed good adhesion as smooth boundary around rubber particles and PLA matrix. Only 5 wt% of rubber phase, NR-ad-PCL was more effective than NR to enhance toughness and mechanical properties of PLA. The contents of the NR-ad-PCL were varied from 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt%. From thermal results, the incorporation of the NR-ad-PCL decreased the glass transition temperature and slightly increased degree of crystallinity of PLA. Mechanical properties of the PLA/NR-ad-PCL blends were investigated by dynamic mechanical analyser, pendulum impact tester and universal testing machine for tension and flexural properties. The increasing NR-ad-PCL contents led to decreasing Young’s and storage moduli but increasing loss modulus. Impact strength and elongation at break of the PLA/NR-ad-PCL blends increased with increasing NR-ad-PCL content up to 15 wt% where the maximum impact strength was about three times higher than that of pure PLA and the elongation at break increased to 79%.  相似文献
