Results of glyphosate (GPS) adsorption on three soils of different characteristics show that the interaction of this pesticide with the soils was not related to their CEC and clay minerals content, but to the content of iron and aluminum amorphous oxides and organic matter. The presence of Cu in treatment solutions enhanced GPS adsorption, due to several reasons: GPS coordinates strongly to Cu, and Cu GPS complexes formed seem to have higher ability to be adsorbed on the soil than free GPS; GPS adsorption can take place on sites where Cu was previously adsorbed, acting as a bridge between the soil and GPS; when Cu was present the solution pH decreased, and GPS adsorption increased, since lower pHs lead to the formation of GPS species with lower negative charge, which are adsorbed more easily on the negatively charged soil surfaces.  相似文献

Glyphosate [N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine] (GPS; H3G) is a widely used pesticide throughout the world. It affects metal behaviors in soil-plant system due to its functional groups, which react with metal ions to form metal complexes. Adsorption and cosorption of cadmium and glyphosate on a Wushan soil (WS soil, Anthrosol) and a Zhuanhong soil (ZH soil, Udic Ferrisol) as affect by solution pH were studied by means of batch adsorption experiments. It indicated that the adsorption quantity of Cd or glyphosate was highly relevant to soil characteristics. The WS soil had higher adsorption capacity of Cd than the ZH soil, due to its high organic matter content and cation exchange capacity (CEC). In contrast, the adsorption quantity of glyphosate on the WS soil was less than that on the ZH soil, because the WS soil has lower iron and aluminum oxides content but higher pH than the ZH soil. The herbicide glyphosate affected Cd adsorption on the two soils when they coexisted in a same soil solution, which was attributed to a glyphosate-induced pH-decrease and the corresponding decline in negative surface charges of the soil. Beside that, glyphosate reacted with solution Cd to form the water-soluble complexes that had lower affinity to soil surface in comparison with Cd itself. On the other hand, the presence of Cd in the soil solution also affected the adsorption of glyphosate on the soils. The presence of Cd increased adsorption quantity of glyphosate on the WS and ZH soils, which was resulted from the decrease of equilibrium solution pH caused by Cd2+ exchange with H+ ions of soil surface. In addition to that, glyphosate adsorption possibly takes place on sites where Cd was previously adsorbed and acted as a bridge between the soil and glyphosate.  相似文献

Copper (Cu) input to agricultural soils results from Cu containing pesticides and or that in soil amendments, such as manure or sewage sludge. Soil and soil solution properties influence the adsorption and desorption of Cu by the soil, which in turn determines its plant availability and/or phytotoxicities. Effects of different anion enrichment in the equilibrium solution on Cu adsorption by different soils (pH range of 6.2-9.9) were investigated in this study over a range of Cu concentrations. With Cu concentrations in the range of 0-100 mg L(-1) in the equilibration solution, 95-99% of applied Cu was adsorbed by all three soils. The adsorption of Cu was similar regardless of using either 0.01 M CaCl2 or Ca(NO3)2 as the equilibration solution. When the Cu concentration in the equilibration solution was further increased in the range of 500-2000 mg L(-1), the adsorption of Cu decreased from 60 to 24% of applied Cu in two soils with pH 6.2-7.9. In a high pH soil (pH=9.9), the Cu adsorption decreased from 77 to 34%. Addition of incinerated sewage sludge (ISS) to a Palouse silt loam soil (pH = 6.2) increased the Cu adsorption as compared to that by unamended soil. This was, in part, due to an increase in the soil suspension pH with ISS amendment.  相似文献

This study reports on the effect of the presence of beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) on the adsorption and mobility of the pesticide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) through soil columns. The previous application of beta-CD to the soil produced a retarded leaching of 2,4-D through the soil column, due probably to herbicide adsorption on the soil through beta-CD adsorbed. However, the application of beta-CD solution to the soil column where 2,4-D had been previously adsorbed, led to the complete desorption of the herbicide, due to the formation of water-soluble 1:1 inclusion complexes between 2,4-D and beta-CD. Beta-CD can be viewed as a microscopic organic-phase extractant. It can be an advantage to remove from soil pesticides which are able to form inclusion complexes with cyclodextrins, making them possible candidates for use in in situ remediation efforts.  相似文献

Sorption of copper and nickel by spent animal bones   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2

Animal bone is able to adsorb copper and nickel ions from their single aqueous solutions. It was noted that a decrease in the sorbent concentration with constant copper or nickel concentration, or an increase in the copper or nickel concentration with a constant sorbent concentration resulted in a higher metal loading per unit weight of the sorbent. Increase in the initial pH of the metal solution resulted in an increase in the metals uptake per unit weight of the sorbent. Freundlich isotherm model was found to be applicable for the experimental data of Cu2+ and Ni2+. The results showed that animals bones can be used for the adsorption of the Cu2+ and Ni2+ with higher affinity toward Cu2+ ions. The new sorbent was able to decrease copper concentration to a limit lower than the limit permitted by the environmental regulations.  相似文献

The influence of the pesticide glyphosate (GPS) on the adsorption of Cu (II) on montmorillonite has been examined. The complexation of Cu(II) with GPS was studied using anodic stripping voltammetry in differential pulse mode (DPASV). It has been concluded that the complexes present a labile behaviour and GPS shows a low but noticeable degree of heterogeneity, probably due to complexation of Cu bv more than one GPS species. Cu(II) adsorption on montmorillonite is drastically decreased in the presence of GPS, due to several reasons: decrease in free Cu concentration due to formation of Cu-GPS complexes; surface loading of GPS on montmorillonite, obstructing interlamellar Cu2+ adsorption and competitive effect between protons and Cu2+ for interlamellar positions.  相似文献

Studies were carried out on the adsorption and desorption of added copper (from 100 to 600 microg g(-1)) to whole soils with contrasting properties: a Podzol (Godech A and Godech B) and a Chernozem (Gramada). Adsorption resulted in high Cu concentrations for the Podzol. The adsorbed copper, especially that in the B-horizon, is also potentially mobile, as judged by its ease of desorption on treatment with 0.01 m CaCl(2). A higher proportion of the added adsorbed copper is retained in Godech A soil (4% clay), than in Godech B soil (41% clay). Clay minerals are the principal adsorbent in the Podzol (Godech B), because of the high desorption observed at a low site coverage (7% CEC). The Godech B clay fraction (<0.001 mm) simulates the behaviour of the whole soil. The clay fraction from the Chernozem (Gramada) shows contrasting behaviour, as compared to the whole soil. Copper in the Chernozem is specifically (non-exchangeably) adsorbed, even at pH 2.7. A Langmuir model is appropriate for describing Cu-adsorption for the systems investigated at the acid pH values.  相似文献

Contributions of organic matter and minerals in soil were evaluated by comparing changes in adsorption of methamidophos (MDP) and glyphosate (GPS) before and after removal of organic matter from argaltoll (mollisol) and typustalf (alfisol) soils. Adsorption isotherms of MDP and GPS by the two soils comforted to Freundlich equation, and the adsorption capacity of GPS by argaltoll soil was higher than that of MDP. Due to the removal of organic matter from soils, K(f) values of MDP and GPS adsorbed by argaltoll soil, which were calculated from Freundlich equations and the measure of adsorption capacity, decreased by 46.1% and 75.0%, and these by typustalf soil decreased by 34.9% and 52.5%, respectively. Results from this study suggested that soil organic matter made greater contributions to adsorption of GPS, but soil minerals could provide more available adsorption sites for MDP.  相似文献

Background, aim, and scope  Pesticides and heavy metals pollution in soil environment has become a serious problem in many countries including China. Repeated applications of bordeaux mixture (a blend of copper sulfate and calcium hydroxide) and pyrethroid (Pys) insecticides have led to elevated copper (Cu) and Pys concentrations in vineyard surface soils. However, few studies focused on the interaction of Pys and heavy metals in the soil environment. Our previous studies had indicated the combined effect of cypermethrin (CPM) and Cu on soil catalase activity. Also, we had suggested that the addition of Cu could catalyze photo-degradation of CPM and lambda-cyhalothrin (λ-CHT) in aqueous solution and restrain their degradation in soil. To better understand the potential influence of Cu on the fate of Pys in the soil environment, the aim of the present work was to examine the effect of Cu on the adsorption of λ-CHT and CPM on two typical Chinese soils with different soil characteristics, which was one of the key processes controlling the fate of Pys, and to provide more information about the potential ecological risk of chemicals on the soil ecosystem. Fourier transform infrared and point charges analysis using the MOPAC program of the Gaussian system were also used to reveal the probable adsorption mechanism of λ-CHT and CPM on soils. Materials and methods  Two vineyard soils with different properties were chosen as experimental samples. They were sampled from 0 to 10 cm, dried, and sieved to 2 mm. Each soil was spiked with copper sulfate solution to obtain the following total soil Cu concentrations: 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1,600 mg·kg−1. The treated soils were incubated for 2 weeks and then dried at 20°C. For each soil sample and at each soil Cu concentration, the adsorption of λ-CHT and CPM was measured using a batch equilibrium method. The concentration of λ-CHT was determined by HPLC, and the amount of λ-CHT and CPM adsorbed by the soil sample at equilibrium was determined by the difference between the initial and equilibrium concentrations in solution corrected by the blank adsorption measurement. Results  Without the addition of Cu, the adsorption of λ-CHT and CPM on Black soil is greater than that on Red soil, while the adsorption of λ-CHT on both soils is significantly stronger than that of CPM. As the soil Cu concentration increased from 19 (or 18; background) to 1,600 mg·kg−1, the adsorption coefficient (K d) of λ-CHT decreased from 12.2 to 5.9 L·kg−1 for Red soil, and from 26.1 to 16.8 L·kg−1 for Black soil, whereas the CPM adsorption coefficient in both soils decreased nearly by 100% (K d decreased from 9.4 to 0.2 L·kg−1 for Red soil and from 16.2 to 0.5 L·kg−1 for Black soil). Discussion  Pys adsorption is a surface phenomenon which depends on the surface area and the organic matter content. Thus, the Black soil, having higher organic matter and greater surface area than that of the Red soil, show greater adsorption affinity to λ-CHT and CPM. In our study, the different adsorption affinity of the two Pys was obtained, which was probably attributed to differences with respect to their physical–chemical properties. Further comparison upon the two Pys was conducted. The point charges of halogen atoms in the λ-CHT and CPM were calculated, the differences of which probably lead to the fact that λ-CHT has a stronger binding capacity to soils than CPM. Also, FTIR spectra show that competitive adsorption occurs between CPM and Cu for the same adsorption sites, which is responsible for the obtained suppression of CPM adsorption affected by Cu. Conclusions  Lambda-cyhalothrin shows a significantly stronger adsorption than cypermethrin on both soils. This phenomenon may be due to several reasons: (1) λ-CHT has lower solubility and a higher octanol–water partition coefficient value than CPM; (2) λ-CHT consists of specific isomers, whereas CPM is mixtures of eight different isomers; (3) the chlorine and fluorine atoms in the λ-CHT have a negative point charge, whereas the chlorine atoms in the CPM have a positive point charge. As the soil Cu concentrations increased from 19 (or 18) mg·kg−1 to 1,600 mg·kg−1, the adsorption coefficient of λ-CHT and CPM decreased on both soils. This is mainly due to a competition between Cu and Pys for occupying the adsorption sites on soils. The information from this study have important implications for vineyard and orchard soils, which often contain elevated levels of Cu and Pys. These results are also useful in assessing the environmental fate and health effect of λ-CHT and CPM. Recommendations and perspectives  It is important for environmental scientists and engineers to get a better understanding of soil–metal–organic contaminant interactions. However, pesticide adsorption involves complex processes, and shortcomings in understanding them still restrict the ability to predict the fate and behavior of pesticide. Therefore, considerable research should be carried out to understand the mechanism of interaction between Pys and heavy metal on soils clearly.  相似文献

Abstract

Effects of soil pH on weak acid and weak base herbicide adsorption by soil are often determined by modifying soil pH in the laboratory. Modification of soil pH with acidic or basic amendments such as HCl or NaOH can cause changes in the soil‐solution system that may affect pesticide adsorption. The partition coefficients (Kd) for atrazine and dicamba by Waukegan, Piano, and Walla Walla silt loam soils stabilized in the field at different pH levels were compared to the Kd obtained when the soil pH was adjusted with acidic or basic amendments before herbicide addition. NaOH addition to raise soil pH generally increased the soluble soil organic carbon (SSOC) concentration in solution compared to field soils at the same pH and to soil treated with Ca(OH)2. NaOH decreased the soil solution ionic strength slightly. Acidifying soils increased the soil solution ionic strength, when compared to field soils at the same pH and had no effect on SSOC concentration. Dicamba adsorption to soil was minimal (Kd < 0.22) and not influenced by soil pH in the range of 4.1 to 6.0; adsorption by laboratory amended soils in some cases underestimated adsorption compared to nonamended soils. Atrazine adsorption increased with decreased pH in all soils, and was overestimated slightly by several laboratory treatments to reduce pH compared to adsorption by field soils. Treatments to raise the pH did not affect atrazine adsorption. Overall, herbicide adsorption differences due to pH modification were small (<30%), and were not affected by soil solution ionic strength, saturating cation, or SSOC concentration in solution.  相似文献

Chelating agents have been widely studied for extracting heavy metals from contaminated soils, and the effectiveness of EDDS ([S,S]-ethylene-diamine-disuccinic acid) has aroused extensive attention because of its biodegradability in the natural environment. However, in the course of EDDS-flushing, metal exchange of newly extracted metal-EDDS complexes with other sorbed metals and mineral cations may result in metal re-adsorption on the soil surfaces. Therefore, this study investigated the relative significance of metal exchange under different travel distances of chelant complexes, characteristics of soil contamination, and solution pH in the column experiments. As a result of metal exchange, the elution of Zn and Pb was retarded and the cumulative extraction was lower than those of Ni and Cu, especially over a longer travel distance. Compared with the field-contaminated soils, the effects of metal exchange were even more substantial in the artificially contaminated soil because of a greater amount of extractable metals and a larger proportion of weakly bound fractions. By contrast, metal exchange was insignificant at pH 8, probably due to less adsorption of metal-EDDS complexes. These findings highlight the conditions under which metal exchange of metal-EDDS complexes and the resulting impacts are more significant during EDDS-flushing.  相似文献

Use of glyphosate resistant crops was helpful in addressing observed increases in environmental contamination by herbicides. Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum herbicide, and its behaviour-as well as that of other herbicides-in soils is an important consideration for the overall environmental evaluation of genetically resistant crop introduction. However, few data have been published comparing glyphosate behaviour in soil to that of the herbicides that would be replaced by introduction of glyphosate resistant crops. This work compares glyphosate adsorption in soil with that of other herbicides frequently used in rape (trifluralin and metazachlor), sugarbeet (metamitron) and corn (sulcotrione). Herbicide adsorption was characterised in surface soils and in the complete soils profiles through kinetics and isotherms using batch equilibration methods. Pedological and molecular structure factors controlling the adsorption of all five herbicides were investigated. Glyphosate was the most strongly adsorbed herbicide, thus having the weakest potential for mobility in soils. Glyphosate adsorption was dependent on its ionisable structure in relation to soil pH, and on soil copper, amorphous iron and phosphate content. Trifluralin adsorption was almost equivalent to glyphosate adsorption, whereas metazachlor, metamitron and sulcotrione adsorption were lower. Trifluralin, metazachlor and metamitron adsorption increased with soil organic carbon content. Sulcotrione was the least adsorbed herbicide in alkaline soils, but its adsorption increased when pH decreased. Ranking the adsorption properties among the five herbicides, glyphosate and trifluralin have the lowest availability and mobility in soils, but the former has the broadest spectrum for weed control.

Organic amendments are sometimes applied to agricultural soils to improve the physical, chemical, and microbiological properties of the soils. The organic fractions in these soil amendments also influence metal reaction, particularly the adsorption and desorption of metals, which, in turn, determine the bioavailability of the metals and hence their phytotoxicities. In this study, a Quincy fine sandy (mixed, mesic, Xeric Torripsamments) soil was treated with 0 to 160 g kg(-1) rates of either manure, sewage sludge (SS), or incinerated sewage sludge (ISS) and equilibrated in a greenhouse at near field capacity moisture content for 100 days. Following the incubation period, the soil was dried and adsorption of copper (Cu) was evaluated in a batch equilibration study at either 0, 100, 200, or 400 mg L(-1) Cu concentrations in a 0.01M CaCl2 solution. The desorption of adsorbed Cu was evaluated by three successive elutions in 0.01M CaCl2. Copper adsorption increased with an increase in manure rates. At the highest rate of manure addition (160 g kg(-1) soil), Cu adsorption was two-fold greater than that by the unamended soil at all rates of Cu additions. With increasing rates of Cu additions, the adsorption of Cu decreased from 99.4 to 77.6% of Cu applied to the 160 g kg(-1) manure amended soil. The desorption of Cu decreased with an increase in rate of manure amendment. Effects of sewage sludge amendments on Cu adsorption were somewhat similar to those as described for manure additions. Likewise, the desorption of Cu was the least at the high rate of SS addition (160 g kg(-1)), although at the lower rates there was not a clear indication of the rate effects. In contrast to the above two amendments, the ISS amendment had the least effect on Cu adsorption. At the highest rate of ISS amendment, the Cu adsorption was roughly 50% of that at the similar rate of either manure or SS amendments, across all Cu rates.  相似文献

Thirteen soils collected from 11 provinces in eastern China were used to investigate the butachlor adsorption. The results indicated that the total organic carbon (TOC) content, clay content, amorphous Fe2O3 content, silt content, CEC, and pH had a combined effect on the butachlor sorption on soil. Combination of the data obtained from the 13 soils in the present study with other 23 soil samples reported by other researchers in the literature showed that Koc would be a poor predictive parameter for butachlor adsorption on soils with TOC content higher than 4.0% and lower than 0.2%. The soils with the ratio of clay content to TOC content (RCO) values less than 60 adsorbed butachlor mainly by the partition into soil organic matter matrix. The soils with RCO values higher than 60 apparently adsorbed butachlor by the combination of the partition into soil organic matter matrix and adsorption on clay surface.  相似文献

Copper partitioning was studied in seven calcareous soils at moisture content corresponding to 1.2 times the field moisture content (soil water potential 7.84 J kg(-1)). Copper retention was accompanied by the release in soil solution of Ca(2+), Mg(2+), Na(+), and H(+), and the total amount of these cations released was 0.8 to 1.09 times the amount of Cu sorbed (mol(c):mol(c)). The relationships between Cu activity and pH, and the balance of cations in soils correspond with the surface precipitation of CuCO(3) as the main mechanism of Cu retention. The values of ion activity product of surface precipitate were close for all studied soils with the average log(IAP(CuCO(3)))=-15.51. The relationship between copper activity in soil solutions and soil properties is well fit by a regression relating pCu (-log copper ion activity) with soil pH, total Cu, and carbonate content.  相似文献

Phosphorus effect on Zn adsorption-desorption kinetics in acid soils   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The adsorption-desorption kinetics of Zn in the absence and presence of P was studied by using the stirred flow chamber technique. The results thus obtained were compared with those previously obtained for Cu. As with copper, the simultaneous addition of P and Zn in a 1:1 mole ratio to soil was found to significantly increased Zn adsorption relative to the absence of P. Unlike Cu, however, Zn was only adsorbed at fast adsorption sites in the absence of P. In any case, the increased adsorption of Zn in the presence of P was largely due to slow adsorption sites, where Zn2+ ion acted as a bridging element between P and organic matter. Following adsorption in both the presence and absence of P, Zn was desorbed to a much higher extent than was Cu. However, the proportion of Zn desorbed after adsorption in the presence of P was significantly lower than in the absence of P. This indicates that Zn binds more strongly to adsorbing surfaces in the presence of P than in its absence.  相似文献
