This paper reports on the development and application of an iterative bidding technique to examine proposed visibility reductions in the Four Corners Region of the southwest United States. The iterative bidding technique is a method to elicit honest bids for “goods” not priced in formal markets. Four issues associated with direct revelation of preferences for environmental goods are explored: (1) the establishment of linkages between the physical parameters of visibility and representation of the “good” called visibility to individuals for valuation purposes; (2) a systematic test for both observed and induced biases associated with the interative bidding technique; (3) replication of the results of previous experiments; and (4) reporting of empirical divergences between compensating and equivalent surplus measures of consumer surplus.  相似文献

An empirical case study of the benefits of abatement of aesthetic environmental damage associated with the Four Corners power plant and Navajo mine using the bidding game technique is presented. Bidding games were carefully designed to avoid the potential problems inherent in that technique. The results indicate the existence of substantial benefits from abatement of this aesthetic environmental damage. Aggregate bid curves, marginal bid curves, and estimates of the income elasticity of bid are presented. The effectiveness of the bidding game technique is discussed.  相似文献

This paper reports on a bidding game applied to estimate aesthetic damages from possible construction of the Kaiparowits power plant near Lake Powell. A multivariate technique, based on the hypothesis of parallelism of the two first principal axes, is used to estimate differences in allometric growth at the intraspecific level. This communication is concerned with an application of the method to the comparative study of the increase in carbon and nitrogen in the isopod Sphaeroma hookeri. The method allows us to consider, during growth, several chemical components, without losing sight of the functional unity of the living organism. It permits a synthetic approach to the biochemical growth of the organism, and also a comparative physiological study on the allometric phenomena that pertain particularly to elementary chemistry. The results obtained—when interpreted in terms of biochemical growth—reveal significant metabolic differences at the intraspecific level.

2009年春季(5月)和夏季(8月)分别对长江口海水中的营养盐(DIN、SiO32--Si、PO43--P)进行调查,分析其时空分布特征,探讨其影响机理,并对富营养化水平进行了评价。结果表明:春、夏季表、底层DIN、SiO32--Si的平面分布有从近岸向离岸逐渐降低的特点,而PO43--P则表现出一种缓冲现象;各营养盐在表、底层的质量浓度春季均小于夏季,且DIN的主要存在形式均为NO3-_N;DIN、SiO32--Si主要来源于径流输入,PO43--P则有多种来源。春、夏季表、底层SiO32--Si/PO43--P、DIN/PO43--P均远大于Redfield值,具有营养盐比例不平衡的特征,且DIN/PO43--P、SiO32--Si/DIN、SiO32--Si/PO43--P在长江口海域的分布不均匀;从浮游植物吸收DIN/PO43--P的配比分析,PO43--P是春、夏季长江口海域潜在性营养限制因子;春、夏季E值均远大于富营养化阀值,该海域富营养化现象严重。  相似文献

A graphical technique is demonstrated which, when combined with any resource simulation model, permits the resource manager to explore the effects of different management options. Also, this technique (nomogram or response surface) permits derivation of “optimal solutions” given particular objectives. Examples of the methodology are given for the spruce budworm—forest system in eastern Canada. Effects of several kinds of uncertainties are dicussed, including uncertainties in model assumptions, management precision, future objectives and system evolution. The graphical nature of nomograms helps managers and analysts to grasp more easily the complicated behavior of ecological systems models. Finally, the role of computer models in decision-making is discussed.  相似文献

We describe a new technique of local analysis of heterogeneous samples which is analogous to the electron or ion microprobe but is based on molecular spectra of materials to characterize the different components of a microscopic sample and (or) to obtain images giving their surface distribution.

The sample is illuminated by a laser beam causing characteristic Raman lines of the different components to be emitted. Using these Raman lines, the components can then be detected, identified and located. For this purpose, the microscopic area of the preparation which is illuminated is analysed by a conventional optical microscope coupled with a tunable band pass filter and a multichannel or monochannel detection system.

One main advantage of this technique is the ability to study samples not under vacuum but in air, under a controlled atmosphere or even inside a transparent matrix. Normal Raman spectra can be obtained from particles of 1 μm size and larger, and are the basis for the qualitative identification of molecular constituents. The technique has been applied to molecular microanalysis of matter in the particulate form (i.e., Airborne particles—stack particulates, flyash, asbestos minerals, defects and inclusions in industrial materials,...). It is especially interesting for organic materials which are not detected by other methods. Different examples illustrate this technique.  相似文献

为探讨钻井液及其组分的毒性效应,采用荧光技术研究了一种水基钻井液WBF及其7种主要组分(HXJ、PAC141、KPAM、PolyAL、XC、PolyA、Mud)对海洋微藻中肋骨条藻(Skeletonema costatum)的毒性作用,以未加入WBF或其组分的中肋骨条藻的叶绿素荧光强度为参照,计算得到钻井液及其组分对中肋骨条藻不同时间的EC50值.结果表明:WBF的7种单组分中,PolyA对中肋骨条藻的96h EC50=2×103mg·L-1,为有毒组分,PolyAL的96h EC50=3×104mg·L-1,为低毒组分,其余5种组分无毒;WBF的有毒和低毒组分复配时其毒性与作用时间有关,PolyA与PolyAL在24h之内表现为协同作用,之后主要表现为拮抗作用;WBF的毒性主要取决于其有毒组分,而低毒和无毒组分对钻井液的毒性有协同增强作用.  相似文献

In conservation understanding the drivers of behavior and developing robust interventions to promote behavioral change is challenging and requires a multifaceted approach. This is particularly true for efforts to address illegal wildlife use, where pervasive—and sometimes simplistic—narratives often obscure complex realities. We used an indirect questioning approach, the unmatched count technique, to investigate the drivers and prevalence of wildlife crime in communities surrounding 2 national parks in Uganda and combined scenario interviews and a choice experiment to predict the performance of potential interventions designed to tackle these crimes. Although poverty is often assumed to be a key driver of wildlife crime, we found that better-off households and those subject to human–wildlife conflict and those that do not receive any benefits from the parks’ tourism revenue sharing were more likely to be involved in certain types of wildlife crime, especially illegal hunting. The interventions predicted to have the greatest impact on reducing local participation in wildlife crime were those that directly addressed the drivers including, mitigating damage caused by wildlife and generating financial benefits for park-adjacent households. Our triangulated approach provided insights into complex and hard-to-access behaviors and highlighted the importance of going beyond single-driver narratives.  相似文献

研究了苹果和土壤中丙森锌残留的气相色谱分析方法,及其代谢物乙撑硫脲的高效液相色谱分析方法,并在天津、山东烟台和陕西咸阳进行了苹果和土壤中丙森锌及其代谢物乙撑硫脲残留消解动态和残留规律田间试验研究.结果表明,在0.05—2 mg.kg-1的加标水平下,苹果和土壤中丙森锌的加标回收率分别为77.12%—92.85%和9.24%—94.68%,变异系数分别为3.30%—6.56%和3.29%—5.29%;在0.05—1 mg.kg-1的加标水平下,苹果和土壤中乙撑硫脲的加标回收率分别为80.91%—97.47%和84.11%—99.97%,变异系数分别为3.23%—3.82%和2.80%—3.40%.苹果和土壤中丙森锌和乙撑硫脲的最小检出量分别为5.0×10-10g和1.0×10-10g,其中苹果和土壤中丙森锌的最低检出浓度为0.025 mg.kg-1,乙撑硫脲的最低检出浓度为0.005 mg.kg-1.按1.5倍推荐剂量600倍稀释液在苹果上施用65%戊唑醇.丙森锌可湿性粉剂1次,丙森锌在苹果和土壤中的残留消解半衰期分别为6.0—6.8 d和8.7—10.1 d.按推荐剂量和1.5倍推荐剂量在苹果上各施用65%戊唑醇.丙森锌可湿性粉剂3—4次,2次施药间隔为10 d,距最后一次施药21 d时,丙森锌在苹果中的最高残留量低于我国农业行业标准规定的最大残留限量2 mg.kg-1.  相似文献

金属硫蛋白(MT)是生物体内的一类富含巯基(—SH)的蛋白,在细胞氧化还原调控和重金属解毒等方面具有重要作用.MT的—SH可以络合重金属,同时对氧化作用很敏感,重金属胁迫产生的活性氧物质(ROS)可以将其氧化成二硫键(S—S).为揭示镉(Cd)对蚯蚓MT的—SH含量及其氧化修饰的影响,将蚯蚓放入Cd浓度为0、100、300mg·kg-1的黄棕壤中胁迫21天,通过SBD-F标记和高效液相色谱(HPLC)结合的方法测定MT中—SH和S—S的含量.结果显示,随着Cd浓度的增加,蚯蚓体内的—SH和S—S含量均逐渐增加,但S—S所占比例降低.这说明Cd诱导了蚯蚓体内MT合成,并且诱导量随着Cd胁迫的增强而增加,但—SH的氧化修饰程度有所下降.  相似文献

铵态氮进入地下水的主要途径是土壤淋失,通过室内土柱淋滤实验研究铵态氮在土壤中的迁移转化过程,测定不同时间和不同深度土壤中铵态氮及其转化物硝态氮和亚硝态氮的浓度变化,分析了影响铵态氮迁移转化的因素。实验表明:在土壤饱和、持续淋滤条件下,土柱中随采样深度的增加,铵态氮穿透时间延长,依次滞后;通过硝化能力分析,土柱上层发生了轻微的硝化反应,土柱底部发生了反硝化反应,导致硝态氮的浓度衰减。研究认为在铵态氮的迁移转化过程中,当入渗铵态氮浓度较低时,影响铵态氮迁移转化的显著因素是土壤对铵态氮的吸附;当入渗铵态氮浓度较大时,影响铵态氮迁移转化的显著因素是生物作用导致的铵态氮的硝化,以及土壤的渗透系数、弥散度等因素。  相似文献

为阐明天然有机物(NOM)在纳米颗粒(NPs)吸附重金属中的作用,研究了蛋白质(牛血清白蛋白,BSA)、碳水化合物(海藻酸钠,NaAlg)和腐殖酸(HA)对二氧化钛纳米颗粒(TNPs)和氧化铈纳米颗粒(CNPs)聚集沉降和吸附Cd2+和Pb2+的影响.结果表明,当Pb2+和Cd2+在20—120 mg·L-1范围内,HA和NaAlg显著促进了TNPs和CNPs对这些金属离子的吸附(P<0.05),而BSA对这些金属吸附的影响甚微.TNPs-HA和TNPs-NaAlg对Pb2+的吸附分别提高了14%—41%和16%—57%,对Cd2+的吸附分别提高了12%—112%和22%—143%.与CNPs相比,CNPs-HA和CNPs-NaAlg对Pb2+的吸附增加了21%—71%和23%—65%,对Cd2+的吸附增加了26%—45%和45%—91%.并且NPs和NPs-NOM对Pb2+和Cd2+的吸附符合Freundlich吸附模型.离子强度的增加抑制了NPs-HA/NaAlg和NPs对Pb2+和Cd2+的吸附,而pH的增加对NPs-HA/NaAlg和NPs吸附Pb2+和Cd2+起促进作用.  相似文献

Poaching can have devastating impacts on animal and plant numbers, and in many countries has reached crisis levels, with illegal hunters employing increasingly sophisticated techniques. We used data from an 8‐year study in Savé Valley Conservancy, Zimbabwe, to show how geographic profiling—a mathematical technique originally developed in criminology and recently applied to animal foraging and epidemiology—can be adapted for use in investigations of wildlife crime. The data set contained information on over 10,000 incidents of illegal hunting and the deaths of 6,454 wild animals. We used a subset of data for which the illegal hunters’ identities were known. Our model identified the illegal hunters’ home villages based on the spatial locations of the hunting incidences (e.g., snares). Identification of the villages was improved by manipulating the probability surface inside the conservancy to reflect the fact that although the illegal hunters mostly live outside the conservancy, the majority of hunting occurs inside the conservancy (in criminology terms, commuter crime). These results combined with rigorous simulations showed for the first time how geographic profiling can be combined with GIS data and applied to situations with more complex spatial patterns, for example, where landscape heterogeneity means some parts of the study area are less likely to be used (e.g., aquatic areas for terrestrial animals) or where landscape permeability differs (e.g., forest bats tend not to fly over open areas). More broadly, these results show how geographic profiling can be used to target antipoaching interventions more effectively and more efficiently and to develop management strategies and conservation plans in a range of conservation scenarios.  相似文献

Results of water quality modelling for Jamaica Bay, a New York estuary with a large hydraulic circulation, are presented. The two-dimensional topology is approximated by a set of coupled one-dimensional subsystems. The long term steady state water quality problem is then reformulated as a multi-point boundary value problem for ordinary differential equations. Piecewise constant dispersion parameters are estimated from salinity data.A sequential algorithm based on parallel shooting is developed for solving the multipoint problem. The method, which simplifies handling of feedforward and feedback reaction kinetics, is equivalent to employing a high order finite difference technique with the subsequent enhanced accuracy.Results of model verification for uncoupled variables — salinity, coliform, total soluble phosphorus, and coupled variables for nitrogen (organic and ammonia) and BOD-DO for Jamaica Bay are discussed.  相似文献

基于地理信息系统和卫星遥感技术,利用地面气象数据、遥感数据和土地分类等数据,根据河南省实际植被覆盖和自然地理情况,应用改进的CASA模型估算了1994—2008年间河南省植被净第一性生产力及其时空变化。结果表明:河南省植被净第一性生产力与年均温度的相关性好于植被年净第一性生产力与年降水量和年均太阳辐射之间的相关性,温度是限制河南省植被净第一性生产力的主要因子;15年来河南省植被净第一性生产力呈增加趋势,但不明显;河南省主要植被类型的净第一性生产力从大到小依次为林地、灌丛、耕地、草地、其它植被,它们随时间的变化趋势极为一致。  相似文献

Ascidian fauna have been intensively studied in the Atlantic Ocean, adjacent subpolar regions and Mediterranean Sea for the last 20 years. Here, we have described current species distribution patterns and identified nested areas of endemism using parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE). We also identified diversity hotspots, areas in which species occurred exclusively, and gaps in information about distribution patterns. Finally, we compared ascidian distributions among various proposed biogeographic divisions. The comprehensive literature review provided data on the geographic distribution of 627 species of ascidians. In the West Atlantic, there were three peaks in richness: north Caribbean—96 species, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro—61 species and the subantarctic region—54 species. In the eastern Atlantic, the greatest richness occurred on Spanish and French coasts—91 species and in Senegal—83 species. In the Mediterranean, the greatest richness was in Spain and France—142 species and Italy—127 species. PAE designated 20 areas of endemism nested within eight larger regions that were more or less in agreement with realms or provinces of previous studies: North Atlantic, Caribbean, southeastern Brazil, Magellanic, Subantarctic, Tropical West Africa, South Africa, and Mediterranean. Distribution patterns of the Ascidiacea, in general, followed previously proposed divisions of regions and provinces in the Atlantic and adjacent polar regions, but not subdivisions of these regions.  相似文献
