Solution culture and pot experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of root damage on phytoextraction of heavy metals. In hydroponics, roots of corn (Zea mays L.) seedlings were pretreated with heating stress, and then were exposed to 250 microM Pb+250 microM EDTA solutions for 7d. The results showed that the preheating treatment significantly increased Pb transportation from roots to shoots. In pot experiments, the effect of hot EDTA solution (95 degrees C) on the accumulation of heavy metal in the shoot of corn and pea (Pisum sativum L.) was also examined. Compared to normal EDTA (25 degrees C) treatment, application of hot EDTA solution to the soil surface increased the total removal of Pb in shoots of corn and pea by about 8- and 12-fold, respectively, in an artificially multimetal-contaminated soil. In addition, hot EDTA solution increased the shoot Cu removal by about 6-fold for corn and 9-fold for pea, respectively, in a naturally Cu-contaminated soil. These results suggested that exposure of roots to high temperature could increase the efficiency of EDTA on the accumulation of heavy metals in shoots. This new approach can help to minimize the amount of chelate applied in the field and reduce the potential risk of heavy metals' leaching.  相似文献

Purpose  

Contamination with petroleum hydrocarbons (PHC) is a global problem with environmental implications. Physico-chemical treatments can be used for soil cleanup, but they are expensive, and can have implications for soil structure and environment. Otherwise, biological remediation treatments are cost-effective and restore soil structure. Several remediation experiments have been carried out in the lab and in the field; however, there is the challenge to achieve as good or better results in the field as in the laboratory. In the ambit of a project aiming at investigating suitable biological remediation approaches for recovering a refinery contaminated soil, we present here results obtained in bioremediation trials. The approaches biostimulation and bioaugmentation were tested, in parallel, and compared with natural attenuation. For this purpose, mesocosm experiments were carried out inside the refinery area, which constitutes a real asset of this work.  相似文献

Two field experiments were conducted at the Waimanalo research station on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii to study the effect of chicken (CM) and dairy (DM) manures on biomass and nutrient concentration in sweet corn roots and shoots. Sweet corn (super sweet 10, Zea Mays L. subsp. mays) was grown for two consecutive growing seasons under four rates of application (0, 168, 337, and 672 kg ha? 1 total N equivalent) and one time (OTA) or two time (TTA) applications of organic manure types and rates. There were significant effects of types, rates, and number of manure applications on dry biomass and macro- and micro-nutrient concentration in roots and shoots tissues. Results of root tissue indicated a significant accumulation of N and C under CM and DM treatments compared with the control treatment. Manure application rates significantly increased the accumulation of N and C in root tissue. Dry weight of roots and shoots and both macro- and micro-nutrient contents in the plant tissues significantly increased under TTA treatment compared with OTA treatment. There was a significant correlation (r2 = 0.46 to 0.81) between root biomass, macro-, and micro-nutrient contents during both growing seasons. The results of the study indicates that amending soils with CM at the highest application rate provided the best crop performance in terms of root and shoot biomass, crop N, C, and other macro- and micro-nutrients.  相似文献

Gas exchange was characterized in one- and two year-old spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) and fir seedlings (Abies alba Mill.) which had been exposed to low levels of ozone, sulfur dioxide and simulated rain or a combination of all three variables in open top chambers from 1983 through 1988. The gas exchange measurements were carried out in March 1988 at the end of the five year experiment. The twigs examined did not exhibit any visible sign of injury, specifically no differences were apparent between trees under the treatments of simulated acidic rain at pH 5.0 and pH 4.0. The study of carbon dioxide response curves showed different effects of the pollutants on the tree species. One-Year-old spruce needles treated with O(3) and simulated acidic precipitation pH 4.0 showed noticeable reduction of net photosynthetic rate. Exposure to the combination O(3) and SO(2) at pH 4.0 resulted in a significant depression of photosynthesis in two-year-old needles Transpiration rate was not decreased to a similar extent. No changes either in photosynthesis or transpiration were found in spruce under fumigation with SO(2) alone. These results indicate that ozone is the principal cause of changes in photosynthetic performance of spruce. It alters mesophyll response rather than reducing stomatal conductance. The specific changes that occur in the mesophyll could be diagnosed as inactivation of a carbon fixing enzyme as well as damage of the electron transport system. Fir seem to be more tolerant to ozone. No changes in photosynthesis and transpiration following exposure to O(3) alone were found. However, SO(2) fumigation, alone or in combination with O(3), resulted in a marked decrease of photosynthetic performance. Particularly, carboxylation efficiency and also maximum carboxylation velocity were depressed indicating a reduction in carbon fixing enzyme activity. No differences between single and combined fumigation treatments regarding these variables were determined. However, parameters measured to determine changes in electron transport rate showed a higher depression in the presence of both pollutants. Transpiration also was reduced by SO(2).  相似文献

Norway spruce saplings (Picea abies L. Karst.) were exposed for five years to controlled concentrations of ozone and/or sulphur dioxide in open-top chambers. The monoterpenes of needles, twigs (bark and wood), bark and buds harvested from these trees were qualitatively and quantitatively analysed by combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Different tissues and plant parts, showed notable differences in their percentage distribution. However, comparison of the monoterpene patterns of corresponding plant material obtained from trees which had been exposed to different fumigation regimes showed no significant effects of these pollutants.  相似文献

The effects of CO(2) enrichment and O(3) induced stress on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and corn (Zea mays L.) were studied in field experiments using open-top chambers to simulate the atmospheric concentrations of these two gases that are predicted to occur during the coming century. The experiments were conducted at Beltsville, MD, during 1991 (wheat and corn) and 1992 (wheat). Crops were grown under charcoal filtered (CF) air or ambient air + 40 nl liter(-1) O(3) (7 h per day, 5 days per week) having ambient CO(2) concentration (350 microl liter(-1) CO(2)) or + 150 microl liter(-1) CO(2) (12 h per day.). Averaged over O(3) treatments, the CO(2)-enriched environment had a positive effect on wheat grain yield (26% in 1991 and 15% in 1992) and dry biomass (15% in 1991 and 9% in 1992). Averaged over CO(2) treatments, high O(3) exposure had a negative impact on wheat grain yield (-15% in 1991 and -11% in 1992) and dry biomass (-11% in 1991 and -9% in 1992). Averaged over CO(2) treatments, high O(3) exposure decreased corn grain yield by 9%. No significant interactive effects were observed for either crop. The results indicated that CO(2) enrichment had a beneficial effect in wheat (C(3) crop) but not in corn (C(4) crop). It is likely that the O(3)-induced stress will be diminished under increased atmospheric CO(2) concentrations; however, maximal benefits in crop production in wheat in response to CO(2) enrichment will not be materialized under concomitant increases in tropospheric O(3) concentration.  相似文献

A series of fumigation experiments was conducted with bloodflower (Asclepias curassavica L.) in continuous-flow stirred reactors (CSTRs) to elucidate the effects of ozone on foliar concentrations of several primary and secondary plant metabolites relevant to herbivores. Plants 8 weeks of age were subjected to different ozone levels ranging from 0 to 134 nl liter(-1) for exposure periods up to 16 days. Leaves were analyzed for concentration of soluble carbohydrates, starch, free amino acids, soluble protein, total phenolics, and total cardenolides. Significant interactions between the linear effects of ozone concentration and exposure time were found for soluble carbohydrates, amino acids, cardenolides and phenolics. No significant treatment effects could be observed on foliar starch and protein concentration. The metabolic responses of plants to fumigation appeared to be altered by overall plant nutrition. It is possible that the metabolic changes observed in the host plant represent important changes in nutritional quality to insects.  相似文献

为选择低碳氮比污水生物脱氮中合适的碳源,以搅拌罐浸泡淀粉类物质释放碳源,在确定利用红薯浸泡液为碳源后,以浸没式生物滤池为反应器进行生物反硝化实验。实验结果表明:20 g红薯置于2 L自来水中,采用250 r/m in的搅拌速度,搅拌频率为每搅拌3 h停1 h,2 d后得到的浸泡液COD浓度平均为5 921 mg/L,最高可超过7 000 mg/L;将此红薯浸泡液和污水以1∶50的流量比例,采用分别投加的方式进入反应器,污水中总氮、硝酸盐氮、亚硝酸盐氮及氨氮的平均去除率分别为88.6%、91.6%、88.2%和54.8%,出水COD平均在30 mg/L以下;在红薯浸泡液COD浓度为5 700 mg/L左右时,进水中亚硝酸盐氮浓度与硝酸盐氮浓度比为3∶2时总氮去除率为95.3%,当该比例为2∶3时总氮去除率为88.2%。研究表明,红薯浸泡液是一种经济合适的碳源,采用红薯浸泡液作为低碳氮比污水生物处理中反硝化的碳源是可行的。  相似文献

Field trials with winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grown in open-top chambers and exposed to either ambient filtered (F) or unfiltered (NF) air were carried out for 3 years in northern Italy. The experiments were performed at two places, a rural and an urban site in the Po Plain. The data obtained show no significant difference in protein, starch and glucose contents between the treatments; nevertheless, a tendency towards an increase in glucose and a decrease in starch contents was observed in the F chambers compared with NF. In addition, potassium levels were lower in F than in NF treatment, while calcium were higher. Ozone levels observed in the Po Valley are not sufficiently high to cause significant differences in quality parameters of winter wheat.  相似文献

Knowledge about the prevalence and diversity of antibiotic resistance genes in soil bacteria communities is required to evaluate the possibility and ecological consequences of the transfer of these genes carried by genetically modified (GM) plants to soil bacteria. The neomycin phosphotransferase gene (nptII) conferring resistance to kanamycin and neomycin is one of the antibiotic resistance genes commonly present in GM plants. In this study, we investigated kanamycin-resistant (Km(R)) and neomycin-resistant (Nm(R)) soil bacterial populations in a 3-year field trial using a commercial GM corn (Zea mays L.) carrying the nptII gene and its near isogenic line. The results showed that a portion (2.3 - 15.6 %) of cultivable soil bacteria was naturally resistant to kanamycin or neomycin. However, no significant difference in the population level of Km(R) or Nm(R) soil bacteria was observed between the GM and non-GM corn fields. The nptII gene was not detected in any of the total 3000 Km(R) or Nm(R) isolates screened by PCR. Further, total soil bacterial cells were collected through Nycodenz gradient centrifugation and bacterial community DNA was subjected to PCR. Detection limit was about 500 cells per gram of fresh soil. Our study suggests that the nptII gene was relatively rare in the soil bacterial populations and there was no evidence of gene transfer from a GM corn plant to soil bacteria based on the data from total soil bacterial communities.  相似文献

In a 50- to 70-year-old mixed stand of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in Germany, tree cohorts have been exposed to double ambient ozone (2×O3) from 2000 through 2007 and can be compared with trees in the same stand under the ambient ozone regime (1×O3). Annual diameter growth, allocation pattern, stem form, and stem volume were quantified at the individual tree and stand level. Ozone fumigation induced a shift in the resource allocation into height growth at the expense of diameter growth. This change in allometry leads to rather cone-shaped stem forms and reduced stem stability in the case of spruce, and even neiloidal stem shapes in the case of beech. Neglect of such ozone-induced changes in stem shape may lead to a flawed estimation of volume growth. On the stand level, 2×O3 caused, on average, a decrease of 10.2 m3 ha−1 yr−1 in European beech.  相似文献

石油类污染物对土壤生态系统的结构与功能造成了较为严重的破坏,影响植物的生长,甚至直接影响到人类健康。选择典型禾本科植物-高粱和玉米,通过盆栽实验,种植于模拟石油污染的土壤中,植物成熟收割后,通过测定土壤中总石油烃的含量,植物体中多环芳烃和直链烷烃的含量,研究高粱和玉米对石油污染土壤的修复作用。结果显示:在种植高粱、玉米后,土壤中总石油烃含量明显降低,并且在收获的高粱、玉米植物体中直链烷烃和多环芳烃含量明显高于空白对照组(未检出)。说明高粱、玉米对石油烃具有一定的去除作用,且高粱对土壤中石油烃的去除作用高于玉米;高粱、玉米对土壤中的多环芳烃和直链烷烃具有一定的积累与富集作用。  相似文献

The possible evolution of tolerance to NO2, alone or in combination with SO2 was investigated in three populations of Plantago major L., originating from Hyde Park in central London (polluted site), Ascot (clean site) and The Netherlands. Screening for sensitivity to the pollutants was carried out by means of chronic fumigations with NO2 or NO2 plus SO2 and acute fumigations with SO2, NO2 or their mixture. The Hyde Park population showed smaller growth reductions induced by the pollutant mixture, than did the other populations. In contrast no differential response in terms of foliar injury was observed after an acute fumigation with SO2+ NO2, but the Hyde Park population was the most sensitive to NO2 alone. The results indicate that selection for tolerance to SO2 does not confer tolerance to NO2 alone or the pollutant mixture.  相似文献

Epicuticular wax structures and epicuticular wax composition were studied in needles of Picea abies (L.) Karst. plants after a long-term fumigation experiment. SEM observations showed aggregated as well as undamaged waxes without any relation to treatments. The chemical wax analysis revealed clone specific differences, but only one compound, the nonacosan-10-ol (C(29)-ol), was found enriched in ozone/acid mist treatments.  相似文献

The utilization of dressed seed for spring sowing is a widespread practice to control some pests with reduced doses of chemical products. However some insecticides employed in maize seed dressing, namely belonging to the neonicotinoid family and fipronil, have been claimed to play a role in the decline of honeybees (Apis mellifera L.). Pneumatic drills used in maize sowing are charged with contributing to the dispersion of the abrasion dust produced by dressed seeds, favoring the contamination of the honeybee habitat. Different devices similar to air deflectors have been introduced on pneumatic drills in order to reduce dust drift. During previous field tests carried out by the authors during recent years reduction of dust concentration both in the air and at soil surface has been shown as a consequence of their application. As field tests are affected by the variability of environmental parameters (namely wind speed and direction) the results are not always reliable, comparable and of a general validity. This paper refers to a sowing simulation test system in which pneumatic drills can be tested at a fixed point under controlled conditions of the main environmental parameters. In the test area, protected by external influences, artificial wind conditions are created by means of a fan. The drill, suitably placed in the test area, operates the seed distribution "sur place" by means of an electric engine connected to the drill's driving wheel. A 22.5 m long sampling area, leeward with respect to the drill position, has been identified. Along the sampling area a series of Petri dishes has been placed, with the aim of capturing the depositing dust and providing the concentration of the active ingredients (a.i.) at ground level. At the same time, three air samplers with PTFE diskette filters have been used for the detection of the a.i. The test system has been used for the test of a pneumatic drill, equipped with and without air deflectors, using maize seed dressed with four a. i. (imidacloprid, clothianidin, thiametoxam, fipronil). The results showed regularly decreasing of the concentrations as distance increased, both in the air and at ground level. Moreover, the difference determined by the adoption of the drift reducing device (air deflectors) resulted clear and it can be quantified at around 50 % of the a.i. amounts observed without deflectors. Finally, the paper proposes a data processing method that, from the values observed at fixed point, provides the theoretical a.i. concentration behavior that would occur in field, under the same conditions of wind speed and direction and working speed. The effects of exposing plants of Dryopteris filix-mas (L.) Schott, Phyllitis scolopendrium (L.) Newman and Polypodium vulgare L. to 60 nl litre(-1) (122 microg m(-3)) NO(2) for 37 weeks were investigated in a closed chamber fumigation system. There was no effect of NO(2) on the numbers of fronds produced for any species at any time during the exposure period. However, at the end of the study, there was a lower dry weight yield of green shoots of D. filix-mas and P. scolopendrium and a higher yield of green shoots of P. vulgare for plants in the NO(2) treatment as compared to control plants. These differences in shoot dry weights were not accompanied by an effect of NO(2) exposure on total plant dry weights.  相似文献

Experiments have been carried out to identify the mechanical properties of trees irrigated with wastewater, as well as mathematical modelling of measurement results via the group method of data handling (GMDH) method. Eucalyptus trees were cultivated and irrigated with processed wastewater from a treatment plant. Characteristics of wood quality (axial compression and bending, etc.) were measured and compared with those obtained for trees irrigated in a common way. The paper analyses the features of the GMDH method to adaptively estimate non-linear relationships between input and output variables. Modelling results are described and presented as plots and formulae. Other requirements for modelling tools are discussed: flexibility to adapt to new experimental results, and explicit representation of estimated input–output relationships to provide data structuring.  相似文献

The effects of various ozone exposures in predisposing bean leaves (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) to Botrytis cinerea have been investigated under laboratory conditions. Seedlings of two bean cultivars were exposed to incremental ozone concentrations (120, 180 and 270 microg m(-3) for 8-h day(-1)) for five days and primary leaves were subsequently inoculated with conidia suspended in water or in an inorganic phosphate solution (Pi), and with mycelium. Ozone injury increased with increasing ozone concentration and was much higher in the ozone-sensitive cultivar 'Pros' than in the ozone-insensitive 'Groffy'. Ozone only increased the number of lesions on leaves of Pros after inoculation with either of the conidial suspensions. The Pi-stimulated infection in Groffy was reduced by the lower ozone concentrations. Ozone decreased lesion expansion after inoculation with mycelium. In a chronic fumigation experiment, plants of the two cultivars were exposed to 90 microg m(-3) (7-h day(-1)) and the primary and the oldest tree trifoliate leaves were inoculated after five and seven weeks of exposure. Ozone enhanced the senescence-related injury only in Pros. The number of lesions was not influenced by ozone for either cultivar, conidial suspension or inoculation date. Lesion expansion after inoculation with mycelium was generally reduced in exposed plants. Thus, contrasting effects of ozone on the susceptibility of bean leaves to B. cinerea were observed depending on the cultivar, the conidial suspension, the disease parameter and the ozone exposure pattern. In extrapolating the laboratory results to the field, it is suggested that episodic and chronic exposures to ambient ozone are of minor importance in increasing the susceptibility of bean leaves to B. cinerea.  相似文献

The influence of ozone on insect herbivore growth and population development was investigated. Fumigation of both pea (Pisum sativum L.) and dock (Rumex obtusifolius L.) at a range of O(3) concentrations between 21-206 nl litre(-1) produced changes in mean relative growth rates of the aphids Acyrthosiphon pisum Harris and Aphis rumicis L. of between 24 and -6% relative to controls. However, there was no evidence of a dose-related response to O(3) fumigation and no clear differences in aphid response when fumigated with the plant on prefumigated or previously unfumigated plant material. It is suggested that this may, in part, be due to the presence of NO contamination during O(3) fumigation. However, the MRGR of dock aphids was found to be greater on new compared to old leaves as well as the increase on the new growth and decrease on the old growth of fumigated plants relative to unfumigated controls. The size of egg batches of the chrysomelid beetle Gastrophysa viridula Degeer were found to be larger, survival and productivity of larvae was higher, and the food consumption lower on R. obtusifolius fumigated with 70 nl litre(-1) O(3) compared with unfumigated controls. This meant that these beetle larvae consumed less leaf area per mg of production on fumigated leaves probably because of their better nutritional quality and/or reduced leaf defences. However, the rate of development of larvae was similar on fumigated and control plants.  相似文献
