The Ni-Fe bimetallic particles have been laboratory prepared using sodium borohydride (NaBH4) as the reductant to reduce Ni2+ and Fe2+ in aqueous solution simultaneously, and characterized by TEM, XRD, BET and XPS. The particles were proved to be nanoscale amorphous alloy with an average diameter of about 30 nm and a BET surface area of 20.9 m2 g(-1). Experiments for dechlorination of pentachlorophenol (PCP) by the Ni-Fe bimetallic nanoscale particles in aqueous solutions were carried out under the enhancement of ultrasound. Major factors that influence the dechlorination efficiency, such as initial pH value, Ni content in the Ni-Fe particles, and output power of ultrasonic irradiation, were investigated. The results indicated that Ni-Fe nanoscale bimetallic particles were very effective for the dechlorination of PCP. Dechlorination efficiency was 46% in 30 min under the optimal condition without assistance of ultrasound, whereas it increased to 96% when ultrasonic irradiation was present. Initial pH value showed apparent effect on the dechlorination. As the pH varied from acidic condition to neutral condition, the dechlorination efficiency decreased dramatically. In addition, the dechlorination efficiency was improved with increased Ni/Fe ratio and ultrasonic output power. Less chlorinated phenols including tetrachlorophenol, trichlorophenol, dichlorophenol, monochlorophenol were formed during the initial reaction, and phenol was determined by GC-MS as sole product in the end of reaction.  相似文献

p-Dichlorobenzene (p-DCB) was dechlorinated using Pd/Fe bimetallic catalytic reductants synthesized by chemical deposition. Batch experiments demonstrated that the Pd/Fe bimetallic particles could effectively dechlorinate p-DCB, p-DCB and its intermediate chlorobenzene were removed completely at a Pd loading of 0.02% (weight ratio of Pd to Fe) and Pd/Fe power to solution ratio about 4g 75 ml-1 in 90 min. Dechlorination was affected by various factors such as the reaction temperature, pH, Pd loading percentage over Fe and the introduction of Pd/Fe catalysts et al. Chlorobenzene represents partially stable dechlorinated intermediates in the generation of benzene and part of p-DCB was dechlorinated to benzene indirectly on the surface of Pd/Fe. The dechlorination of p-DCB took place on the surface of the Pd/Fe bimetallic particles in a pseudo-first-order reaction, the activation energy of the dechlorination reaction was determined to be 80.0 kJ mol-1 at the temperature range of 287-313 K.  相似文献

Chemical treatment of para-nitrochlorobenzene (p-NCB) by palladium/iron (Pd/Fe) bimetallic particles represents one of the latest innovative technologies for the remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater. The amination and dechlorination reaction is believed to take place predominantly on the surface site of the Pd/Fe catalysts. The p-NCB was first transformed to p-chloroaniline (p-CAN) then quickly reduced to aniline. 100% of p-NCB was removed in 30 min when bimetallic Pd/Fe particles with 0.03% Pd at the Pd/Fe mass concentration of 3g 75 ml(-1) were used. The p-NCB removal efficiency and the subsequent dechlorination rate increased with the increase of bulk loading of palladium and Pd/Fe. As expected, p-NCB removal efficiency increased with temperature as well. In particular, the removal efficiency of p-NCB was measured to be 67%, 79%, 80%, 90% and 100% for reaction temperature 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 degrees C, respectively. Our results show that no other intermediates were generated besides Cl(-), p-CAN and aniline during the catalytic amination and dechlorination of p-NCB.  相似文献

In this study, the dechlorination of chlorinated hydrocarbons including trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and carbon tetrachloride (CT) by bimetallic Ni/Fe nanoparticles immobilized on four different membranes was investigated under anoxic conditions. Effects of several parameters including the nature of membrane, initial concentration, pH value, and reaction temperature on the dechlorination efficiency were examined. The scanning electron microscopic images showed that the Ni/Fe nanoparticles were successfully immobilized inside the four membranes using polyethylene glycol as the cross-linker. The agglomeration of Ni/Fe were observed in poly(vinylidene fluoride), Millex GS and mixed cellulose ester membranes, while a relatively uniform distribution of Ni/Fe was found in nylon-66 membrane because of its hydrophilic nature. The immobilized Ni/Fe nanoparticles exhibited good reactivity towards the dechlorination of chlorinated hydrocarbons, and the pseudo-first-order rate constant for TCE dechlorination by Ni/Fe in nylon-66 were 3.7-11.7 times higher than those in other membranes. In addition, the dechlorination efficiency of chlorinated hydrocarbons followed the order TCE > PCE > CT. Ethane was the only end product for TCE and PCE dechlorination, while dichloromethane and methane were found to be the major products for CT dechlorination, clearly indicating the involvement of reactive hydrogen species in dechlorination. In addition, the initial rate constant for TCE dechlorination increased upon increasing initial TCE concentrations and the activation energy for TCE dechlorination by immobilized Ni/Fe was 34.9 kJ mol−1, showing that the dechlorination of TCE by membrane-supported Ni/Fe nanoparticles is a surface-mediated reaction.  相似文献

The dechlorination of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) by zerovalent iron (Fe(0)) in the presence of metal ions and humic acid was investigated. In the absence of metal ion and humic acid, 64% of the initial PCE was dechlorinated after 125 h with the production of ethane and ethene as the major end products. The dechlorination followed pseudo-first-order kinetics and the normalized surface rate constant (k(SA)) for PCE dechlorination was (3.43+/-0.61)x10(-3)lm(-2)h(-1). Addition of metal ions enhanced the dechlorination efficiency and rate of PCE, and the enhancement effect followed the order Ni(II)>Cu(II)>Co(II). The k(SA) for PCE dechlorination in the presence of metal ions were 2-84 times higher than that in the absence of metal ions. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that Cu(II) and Ni(II) were reduced by Fe(0) to zerovalent metals, and resulted in the formation of bimetallic system to accelerate the dechlorination reaction. On the contrary, humic acid out-competed the reactive sites on iron surface with PCE, and subsequently decreased the dechlorination efficiency and rate of PCE by Fe(0). However, the reactivity of Fe(0) for PCE dechlorination in the presence of metal ions and humic acid increased by a factor of 3-161 when compared to the iron system containing humic acid alone. Since humic acid and metal ions are the most often found co-existing compounds in the contaminated aquifers with chlorinated hydrocarbons, results obtained in this study is useful to better understand the feasibility of using Fe(0) for long-term application to the remediation of contaminated sites.

In this study, cellulose acetate (CA) supported Ni/Fe nanoparticles were prepared and the ability of these nanoparticles to remove trichloroethylene (TCE) from water was studied. The effects of TCE reduction by the nanoparticles and sorption by the CA support were accounted for separately in the model. CA supported post-coated Ni/Fe nanoparticles were used to investigate the effect of metal particle composition on the observed reduction rate constant. The results show that the metal mass normalized observed reduction rate constant was proportional to the Ni content in the post-coated Ni/Fe nanoparticles in the range of 0-14.3 wt.%. This constant reached a maximum between 14.3 and 21.4 wt.% and decreased with further increase in Ni content. CA supported co-reduced Ni/Fe bimetallic nanoparticles gave poorer performance compared to CA supported post-coated Ni/Fe bimetallic nanoparticles at the same Ni content in Ni/Fe nanoparticles.  相似文献

Modified zero valent iron (MZVI) was used to study the transformation of a chlorothalonil (CLT) solution and the variation of the observed degradation rate of the reduction reactions. This was carried out when transition metals e.g. Pd, Cu and Co plated on the surface of micrometric iron particles (< 150 microm) were used as reducing catalytic agents for pesticide removal. Reactions were undertaken under both oxic and anoxic conditions in the presence and the absence of a phosphate buffer solution (PBS). Results of batch studies in nitrogen sparged solutions revealed that incomplete slow dechlorination merely occurred with zero valent iron (ZVI), however, complete rapid dechlorination reactions took place with MZVI especially Fe/Pd. Dechlorination was depicted by studying UV absorbance and MS spectra of CLT and all corresponding by-products. Typical blue shifts (deltalambda = 4-6 nm/chlorine atom) were observed at the same time as chlorine cluster isotopes disappeared. After the plating process, metal loading was controlled by analyzing the remaining metal in the solution by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Experiments showed that CLT degradation mechanism is faster in nitrogen sparged solutions in the absence of PBS. Time needed for complete removal of 2.08 +/- 0.19 microM CLT solution was about 2 h when experiments were conducted with ZVI (t1/2 = 15.0 min) and about 10 min when the reaction was carried out under the same conditions with Fe/Pd 1% (t1/2 = 1.0 min). Degradation rates for all bimetallic systems were determined showing that Pd is the more exciting catalytic transition metal followed by Cu and Co. Furthermore, MZVI method showed obvious advantage to traditional CLT treatment methods.  相似文献

Zero-valent iron holds great promise in treating groundwater, and its reactivity and efficacy depend on many surrounding factors. In the present work, the effects of solution chemistry such as pH, humic acid (HA), and inorganic ions on pentachlorophenol (PCP) dechlorination by smectite-templated Pd(0)/Fe(0) were systematically studied. Smectite-templated Pd(0)/Fe(0) was prepared by saturating the negatively charged sites of smectite clay with Fe(III) and a small amount of Pd(II), followed by borohydride reduction to convert Fe(III) and Pd(II) into zero-valent metal clusters. Batch experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of water chemistry on PCP remediation. The PCP dechlorination rate critically depends on the reaction pH over the range 6.0~10.0; the rate constant (k (obs)) increases with decreasing the reaction pH value. Also, the PCP remediation is inhibited by HA, which can be attributed to the electron competition of HA with H(+). In addition, the reduction of PCP can be accelerated by various anions, following the order: Cl(-) > HCO (3) (-) > SO (4) (2-) ~no anion. In the case of cations, Ca(2+) and Mg(2+) (10 mM) decrease the dechlorination rate to 0.7959 and 0.7798 from 1.315 h(-1), respectively. After introducing HA into the reaction systems with cations or/and anions, the dechlorination rates are similar to that containing HA alone. This study reveals that low pH and the presence of some anions such as Cl(-) facilitate the PCP dechlorination and induce the rapid consumption of nanosized zero-valent iron simultaneously. However, the dechlorination rate is no longer correlated to the inhibitory or accelerating effects by cations and anions in the presence of 10 mg/L HA.  相似文献

Bimetallic iron-aluminum (Fe/Al) particles were synthesized and tested for their reactivity toward carbon tetrachloride using batch reactors and a flow-through column at near neutral pH. Preparation of bimetallic Fe/Al particles was conducted under acidic conditions under which iron was readily deposited onto the aluminum surface. The SEM image showed clusters of iron on the aluminum surface at the measured Fe:Al molar ratio of about 2:3. Results showed that the presence of zero-valent aluminum successfully prevented the formation of a passive layer at the iron surface and maintained the reactivity of iron. The dechlorination of carbon tetrachloride by bimetallic Fe/Al particles produced chloroform (9%), dichloromethane (17%) and methane (38%). Kinetic analysis suggests that bimetallic Fe/Al particles increased the reactivity toward carbon tetrachloride degradation by a factor of 10 compared to zero-valent iron and possessed a comparable reactivity with nano-sized Fe. The effectiveness of bimetallic Fe/Al particles was further confirmed by the continuous flow column study from which an ageing of bimetallic particles was also observed.  相似文献

The effect of several anions and cations normally co-present in soil and groundwater contamination sites on the degradation kinetics and removal efficiency of hexachlorobenzene (HCB) by nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI) particles was examined. The degradation kinetics was not influenced by the HCO(3)(-), Mg(2+), and Na(+) ions. It was enhanced in the presence of the Cl(-) and SO(4)(2-) ions due to their corrosion promotion. The NO(3)(-) competes with HCB so it inhibits the degradation reaction. The Fe(2+) ions would inhibit the degradation reaction due to passivation layer formed, while it was enhanced in the presence of Cu(2+) ions resulted from the reduced form of copper on NZVI surfaces. These observations lead to a better understanding of HCB dechlorination with NZVI particles and can facilitate the remediation design and prediction of treatment efficiency of HCB at remediation sites.  相似文献

Highly stable Fe-Pd bimetallic nanoparticles were prepared with 0.2% (w/w) of sodium carboxylmethylcellulose (CMC) as a stabilizer. The effectiveness of the stabilized Fe-Pd nanoparticles was studied for degradation of two chlorinated pesticides (lindane and atrazine) under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Batch kinetic tests showed that under anaerobic condition the nanoparticles can serve as strong electron donors and completely reduce 1 mgl(-1) of lindane at an iron dose of 0.5 gl(-1) or 1mg l(-1) of atrazine with 0.05 gl(-1) iron with a trace amount (0.05-0.8% of Fe) of Pd as a catalyst. In contrast, under aerobic condition, the nanoparticles can facilitate Fenton-like reactions, which lead to oxidation of 65% of lindane under otherwise identical conditions. Under aerobic condition, the presence of CMC reduced the level of hydroxyl radicals generated from the nanoparticels by nearly 50%, and thus, inhibited the oxidation of the contaminants. While the particle stabilization greatly enhanced the anaerobic degradation, it did not appear to be beneficial under aerobic condition. The degradation rate was progressively enhanced as the Pd content increased from 0.05% to 0.8% of Fe, and the catalytic effect of Pd was more significant under anaerobic condition. Under anaerobic condition, lindane is degraded via dihaloelimination and dehydrohalogenation, whereas atrazine is by reductive dechlorination followed by subsequent reductive dealkylation. Under aerobic condition, reactive oxygen species and hydroxyl radicals from the iron nanoparticles are responsible for oxidizing the pesticides. Lindane is oxidized via dechlorination/dehydrohalogenation, whereas atrazine is destroyed through dealkylation of the alkylamino side chain.  相似文献

In this work, Basic Yellow 11 (BY 11) was employed as model compound to study catalytic wet air oxidation as a pre-treatment step to the conventional biological oxidation. Ni and Fe catalysts supported over hydrotalcite (HT) were prepared by incipient wetness and excess impregnation to obtain catalysts with different metal loadings (from 1 to 10 wt.%). HTs were synthesized by co-precipitation and characterized with XRD, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), BET, thermogravimetric analysis and SEM. Results showed that dye conversion increased with Ni and Fe content up to 7 wt.% and that the most effective catalyst were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation. The influence of metal loading in the catalyst, and the preparation method as well as the reaction conditions was investigated. A mechanism and reaction pathways for BY 11 during catalytic liquid phase oxidation have also been proposed.  相似文献

Nanoscale zerovalent copper supported on a cation resin was successfully synthesized to enhance the removal of carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)) from contaminated water. The use of the cation resin as a support prevents the reduction of surface area due to agglomeration of nanoscale zerovalent copper particles. Moreover, the cation resin recycles the copper ions resulting from the reaction between CCl(4) and Cu(0) by simultaneous ion exchange. The decline in the amount of CCl(4) in aqueous solution results from the combined effects of degradation by nanoscale zerovalent copper and sorption by the cation resin; thus the amount of CCl(4) both in aqueous solution and sorbed onto the resin were measured. The pseudo-first-order rate constant normalized by the surface-area and the mass concentration of nanoscale zerovalent copper (k(SA)) was 2.1+/-0.1 x 10(-2)lh(-1)m(-2), approximately twenty times that of commercial powdered zerovalent copper (0.04 mm). Due to the exchange between Cu(2+) and the strongly acidic ions (H(+) or Na(+)), the pH was between 3 and 4 in unbuffered solution and Cu(2+) at the concentration of less than 0.1 mg l(-1) was measured after the dechlorination reaction. In the above-ground application, resin as a support would facilitate the development of a process that could be designed for convenient emplacement and regeneration of porous reductive medium.  相似文献

The reductive dechlorination and biodegradation of 2,24,5,5-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB#101) was investigated in a laboratory-scale. Palladium coated iron (Pd/Fe) was used as a catalytic reductant for the chemical degradation of 2,24,5,5-pentachlorobiphenyl, and an aerobic bacteria was used for biodegradation following the chemical reaction in this study. Dechlorination was affected by several factors such as Pd loading, initial soil pH and the amount of Pd/Fe used. The results showed that higher Pd loading, higher dosage of Pd/Fe and slightly acid condition were beneficial to the catalytic dechlorination of 2,2,4,5,5-pentachlorobiphenyl. In laboratory batch experiments, 2,24,5,5-pentachlorobiphenyl was reduced in the presence of Pd/Fe bimetal, which was not further degraded by aerobic bacteria. 2,2,4-trichlorobiphenyl (PCB#17), a reduction product from 2,24,5,5-pentachlorobiphenyl, was readily biodegraded in the presence of a aerobic bacterial strain. It is suggested that an integrated Pd/Fe catalytic reduction-aerobic biodegradation process may be a feasible option for treating PCB-contaminated soil.  相似文献

Fe0-mediated reductive destruction of hazardous organic compounds such as chlorinated organic compounds (COCs) and nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) in the aqueous phase is one of the latest innovative technologies. In this paper, rapid reductive degradation of COCs and NACs by synthesized nanoscale Fe0 in anaerobic batch systems was presented. The nanoscale Fe0, characterized by high specific surface area and high reactivity, rapidly transformed trichloroethylene (TCE), chloroform (CF), nitrobenzene (NB), nitrotoluene (NT), dinitrobenzene (DNB) and dinitrotoluene (DNT) under ambient conditions, which results in complete disappearance of the parent compounds from the aqueous phase within a few minutes. GC analysis reported that the main products of the dechlorination of TCE and CF were ethane and methane as well as that most of the nitro groups in NACs were reductively transformed to amine groups. These results suggest that the rapid reductive destruction by nanoscale Fe0 is potentially a viable in situ or aboveground treatment of groundwater contaminated with hazardous organic compounds including COCs and NACs.  相似文献

In this study, nanoscale Pd-Fe particles, with diameters less than 100 nm, were synthesized and dispersed over the chitosan and silica supports. Three different Pd-Fe particles were synthesized, namely 0.1% Pd-Fe, 0.5% Pd-Fe and 1.0% Pd-Fe. SEM images confirmed that the Pd-Fe particles were dispersed over the surface of the supports while SEM-EDX confirmed evenly distribution of Pd over Fe(zero-valent). alpha-Fe(zero-valent) crystallites were identified by means of XRD and observed in TEM. Reductive dechlorinations of 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene (1,2,4-TCB) with the nanoscale Pd-Fe/chitosan and Pd-Fe/silica were carried out in the batch experiment system. Disappearance of the parent species and formation of the reaction intermediates and end product were monitored at discrete times. The results show that the nano-scale Pd-Fe particles were able to completely dechlorinate the chlorinated benzenes within a very short timescale. Complete dechlorinations of 1,2,4-TCB to benzene were achieved within 60 min with the 1.0% Pd-Fe/chitosan and within 100 min with the 1.0% Pd-Fe/silica. Reaction rates were observed to increase with increasing Pd content of the Pd-Fe/support. The reactions apparently followed pseudo-first-order kinetics with respect to the 1,2,4-TCB transformation. A kinetic model is constructed to fit the experimental results for the reactions, enabling identification of the major and minor dechlorination pathways of 1,2,4-TCB. The model suggests that the 1,2,4-TCB transformation mainly followed the primary pathway of direct reductive dechlorination to benzene and secondary pathway of sequential hydrogenolysis to 1,2-dichlorobenzene (1,2-DCB) and then chlorobenzene (CB) or benzene.  相似文献

A study was conducted to explore some of the basic processes of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) destruction by a new technology termed electrochemical peroxidation process (ECP). ECP represents an enhancement of the classic Fenton reaction (H2O2 + Fe2+) in which iron is electrochemically generated by steel electrodes. Focus was on the extent of adsorption of a mixture of Aroclor 1248 on steel electrodes in comparison to iron filings. Commercially available zero-valent iron filings rapidly adsorbed PCBs from an aqueous solution of Aroclor 1248. Within 4 h, all the PCBs were adsorbed at 1%, 5%, and 10% Fe0 (w/v) concentrations. Little difference in adsorption was found between acidic (2.3) and unamended solutions (pH 5.5), even though significant differences in iron oxidation state and Fe2+ concentrations were measured in solution. PCB adsorption also occurs on steel electrodes regardless of the pH or electric current applied (AC or DC), suggesting the combination of oxidizing (free radical-mediated reactions) and reducing (dechlorination reactions) iron-mediated degradation pathways may be possible. Extraction of the iron powder after 48 h of contact time yielded the progressive recovery of biphenyl with increasing Fe mass(from 0.4% to 3.5%) and changes of the PCB congener-specific pattern as a consequence of dechlorination. A variety of daughter congeners similar to those accumulated during anaerobic microbial dechlorination of Aroclor 1248 in contaminated sediments indicate preferential removal of meta- and para-chlorines.  相似文献
