The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of different plasticizers on the morphology, crystallization, and mechanical properties of poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV)/organomodified montmorillonite (OMt) nanocomposites. We investigated three different plasticizers: dioctyl phthalate (DOP), a commonly used additive in the polymer industry, and two natural and biodegradable plasticizers: epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) and triethyl citrate (TEC). The nanocomposites with 3 wt% OMt were obtained by melt processing in an internal mixer. The plasticizers were used alone or in combination with clay in a concentration of 10 wt%. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy results revealed a partially intercalated structure. The degree of crystallinity was higher for all of the samples compared to neat PHBV, although the melting temperature decreased with the use of plasticizers combined with OMt. The impact strength results were dependent on the interaction between the components of the system. Triethyl citrate was the most effective plasticizer due to its more pronounced interaction with the PHBV matrix, which yielded improvements in processing conditions and PHBV’s flexibility and impact properties.  相似文献

In Russia in 1950–1960 solutions for the localization and storage of large volumes of liquid radioactive waste produced during defensive tasks were accomplished using natural and man-made water objects. At present, they are non-isolated from the environment and radioactive waste storage facilities constitute a serious potential menace. These objects are not allowed by the current legislation of the Russian Federation on environmental protection and safety. However, they do exist and there are no definite and approved engineering solutions regarding their removal. One of these objects is the Techa Cascade of Reservoirs (TCR) of the Mayak plant. In this article, TCR protection requirements are based on and formalized taking into account the legislation of the Russian Federation and the biospheric approach to the radiation protection of humans and the environment. Special safety requirements are needed because the standard argument “from human exposure to discharge standards” is invalid owing to the fact that the possibility of using water objects that have had contact with the TCR is restricted by law.  相似文献

This paper describes the present situation of waste incineration in Europe and discusses the problems faced in the future when the Directives of the European Community will be implemented on waste management. As an example, the status of thermal waste treatment in Germany is dealt with in detail. A point addressed is that public acceptance of incineration can only be increased if the public is aware of the conditions governing waste avoidance and recycling and if these conditions are actually realized. This means, prior to incineration, recyclable or compostable materials should be separated, and only then can the remaining amounts of wastes be treated before being deposited. The main aim of the treatment process is to reduce the hazard potential posed by waste and to meet the landfill requirements laid down in the German Technical Instructions for Municipal Waste.  相似文献

Following the recent Basel Convention, increasing emphasis has been placed on technical co-operation to assist developing countries to put in place effective hazardous waste control measures. ISWA, together with other contributing organizations, held in September 1989 a workshop at which case studies of successful hazardous waste management initiatives were analysed. The workshop indicated that a large number of interrelated measures are needed for effective control of hazardous wastes, and that these are best developed gradually in an evolutionary fashion. Measures used by industrialized countries often need to be further adapted for use in other regions. A number of practical first steps were identified that can be used in all countries to initiate effective control. In the Federal Republic of Germany a working party has developed recommendations for dealing with the dioxin problems posed by waste incineration. According to these recommendations limit values for dioxin emissions are neither necessary nor practical. However, from the point of view of preventive environmental protection, dioxin emissions should be further reduced as far as is possible with present-day technology. The TA Luft (Technical Instructions for Maintaining Air Quality) contains stipulations and advice on this. The most significant of the solid residues from waste incinerators are the filter ashes as they have a high dioxin content. The working party of Under (states) has compiled a catalogue of recommendations for the disposal of filter ashes. The transport of solid residues from solid waste incinerators is controlled under the Abfallgesetz (Waste Act) and regulations passed in connection with this act and under the Gefahrgutverordnung Strasse—GGVS (Regulation on the transport of dangerous freight by road). The latter stipulates at what level of dioxin certain transport conditions must be respected. The new Gefahrstoffverordnung-GefStoffV (Regulation on dangerous substances) prohibits substances containing dioxin in concentrations above a certain level from being placed on the market. It does not apply to residues from solid waste incinerators.  相似文献

Responding to environmental, sustainability, business, and market factors, DuPont has commercialized a new polymer platform, Sorona®, based on 1,3-propanediol. The physical and chemical property advantages over other polymers are described. The diol component of this polymer, 1,3-propanediol, has been demonstrated to be manufacturable via biological (fermentation) process from corn sugar. In the preceding paper detailed microstructural studies were presented of some fundamental aspects of the interactions of two organic compounds on a cement matrix. Organophilic clays are now attracting increasing attention as potential presolidification adsorbents to reduce adverse organic-cement interactions in solidification/stabilization (S/S) systems. This paper presents extensive microstructural studies of interactions between an organophilic clay, containing adsorbed organic wastes, and a cement matrix. Such interactions must be as fully understood as possible if the long-term integrity of the organophilic clay/cement mixes, in whatever formulation, is to be assured in S/S applications.A range of mixes was made up with the objective of characterizing the interaction of the organophilic clay with phenolic compounds and cement using microstructural methods. This approach was adopted in order to enable essential comparisons to be made between clay-containing and clay-free S/S mixes, using the same organics in both cases. Microstructural studies of organic-free cement/clay mixes showed that the presence of the clay caused an inhibition of the initial ettringite formation, up to seven days, but once ettringite had begun to form it increased to 140% of that in OPC paste at 28 days. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs showed that the whole fracture surface was covered with a mat of needle shaped crystals approximately 1 μm in length. These results indicated that the incorporation of clay into the cement matrix may cause the strength reduction observed in macrostructural studies by altering the cement hydration reaction. Microstructural analysis of the solidified (post-adsorption) 3-chlorophenol showed that its detrimental effects on the cement hydration reaction were minimized, provided that the maximum adsorption capacity of the clay was not exceeded.  相似文献

Concentrations of NO2, NO, and O3 from a rooftop monitoring station in Gothenburg, Sweden (2002–2006) were analysed to characterise NO2 pollution. [NO2] was shown to correlate strongly and non-linearly with [NO x ] (NO x ?=?NO?+?NO2), in line with observations in other cities. The [NO2] to [NO x ] fraction fell initially with increasing [NO x ]. At [NO x ] levels >200 ppb, the decline in [NO2]/[NO x ] with increasing [NO x ] levelled out and [NO2]/[NO x ] converged towards approximately 0.15–0.16, independent of [NO x ]. Data from a traffic route site showed the same pattern. This value of [NO2]/[NO x ] at high [NO x ] can be interpreted as the NO2 fraction of the NO x emissions from vehicle exhaust. Situations with high NO x pollution and minimum [NO2]/[NO x ] were always associated with [O3] close to zero. Plotting [Ox] (Ox?=?NO2?+?O3) vs. [NO x ] provided a strong linear correlation for situations dominated by local pollution ([NO]/[NO2]>1). The slope of the regression, a measure of the primary NO2 fraction in NO x emissions, was 0.13 during the day and 0.14 during the night. With stronger winds, the rooftop monitoring station became more similar, in terms of NO2 pollution, to a city street site and a traffic route site, although [NO2] was almost always higher at the street/traffic route locations. The EU standard for the annual average of [NO2] (40 μg m?3) was exceeded, while the hourly standard (200 μg m?3, not to be exceeded more than 18 times per year by 2010) was not exceeded at any of the sites.  相似文献
