A method for trace analysis of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in fish based on gas chromatography/electron ionization high resolution mass spectrometry (GC/EI-HRMS) was developed, and levels of PBDE were determined in whitefish (Coregonus sp.) from eight Swiss lakes and in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) from four Swiss fish farms. PBDE concentrations (sum of PBDE congeners BDE-28, BDE-47, BDE-99, BDE-100, BDE-153, BDE-154, and BDE-183) in filet from whitefish between 36 and 165 ng/g lipid weight (lw) were found, corresponding to wet weight (ww) concentrations of 1.6-7.4 ng/gww. PBDE contents in filet from farmed rainbow trout were significantly lower than in wild whitefish (12-24 ng/glw, 0.74-1.3 ng/gww), and the PBDE congener patterns were different for both species (a higher BDE-47 to BDE-99 ratio for farmed rainbow trout compared to wild whitefish was found). Whitefish PBDE levels [ng/glw] correlate better with the surface/volume ratio of the respective lakes (r(2)=0.70) than with other lake properties such as catchment area (size or number of inhabitants) or residence time, suggesting atmospheric deposition as an input pathway for PBDE. Based on an average daily consumption of 20 g whitefish (Switzerland) with a PBDE content of 7.4 ng/gww (highest PBDE concentration detected in this study), a maximum daily intake of 0.15 microg PBDE was estimated (0.026 microg/day for farmed trout). This number corresponds to the lower end of the estimate for the total PBDE intake of the Nordic consumer of 0.2-0.7 microg/day.  相似文献

A method for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in biota for routine analysis is described. The mass spectroscopic (MS) evaluation of 23 brominated diphenyl ethers, under electron ionization and electron capture negative ion conditions using magnetic sector and quadrupole mass spectrometers, showed that high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) under electron ionization conditions was the most reliable technique, with high selectivity and adequate sensitivity. The instrument detection limit for this method ranged for individual congeners between 4.8 and 0.1 pg for 3-bromodiphenyl ether (BDE-2) and 2,3',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-66), respectively, and method detection limit for each homologue group ranged between 5 pg/g for salmon certified reference material (CRM) and 93 pg/g for lake trout CRM. The effectiveness of this method was evaluated by analyzing the occurrence of PBDEs in commercially available CRMs comprising Lake Ontario lake trout, Pacific herring, and sockeye salmon. The average coefficients of variation for the replicate analyses of PDBEs in several tissue samples were: 25% for lake trout, 36% for Pacific herring, and 34% for sockeye salmon. The average deviations in the inter-laboratory study were: 14% for lake trout, 15% for Pacific herring, and 37% for sockeye salmon. Results indicated that the described method, based on gas chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry, is reliable for determining PBDE concentrations in biological tissues.  相似文献

The distribution of polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) congeners was followed in C57BL mice. The animals were subjected to whole-body autoradiography using (14)C-labelled 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47), 2,2',3,4,4'-pentabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-85) and 2,2',4,4',5-pentabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-99). Labelled BDE-85 and -99 were also used in quantitative studies on milk transfer and tissue concentrations during the neonatal period (12-15 days post partum), by use of liquid scintillation technique. The results show that in adult mice the studied PBDEs were effectively taken up, retained in fatty tissues and concentrated in some specific organs, i.e. the liver, adrenal cortex, ovary, lung and (initially) the brain. At longer post-injection time, the concentration in most tissues was considerably lower, and radioactivity was mainly found in fat depots and the liver. No significant difference in distribution between the three studied congeners was observed. Following maternal exposure, the foetal uptake was limited. On the other hand, during lactation a considerable fraction of the dose (about 20% of the studied penta-BDEs) given to the dam was transferred to the offspring. As in several cases the presently observed organ accumulation corresponds with earlier reports on PBDE effects in the same organs, the present results should be taken into consideration in the risk assessment of this compound group.  相似文献

Hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (OH-PDBEs) are exogenous, bioactive compounds that originate, to a large extent, from anthropogenic activities, although they are also naturally produced in the environment. In the present study nine new authentic OH-PBDE reference standards and their corresponding methyl ether derivatives (MeO-PBDEs) were synthesised and characterised by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Seven of the authentic reference standards prepared were thereafter tentatively identified in a pooled human blood sample. The tentatively identified OH-PBDEs were 3-hydroxy-2,2',4,4',6-pentabromodiphenyl ether, 3'-hydroxy-2,2',4,4',6-pentabromodiphenyl ether, 3-hydroxy-2,2',4,4',5-pentabromodiphenyl ether, 3-hydroxy-2,2',4,4',5,6'-hexabromodiphenyl ether, 3'-hydroxy-2,2',4,4',5,6'-hexabromodiphenyl ether, 3-hydroxy-2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexabromodiphenyl ether and 4-hydroxy-2,2',3,4',5,5',6-heptabromodiphenyl ether. An additional seven OH-PBDEs were tentatively identified in the pooled human blood sample, of which one OH-PBDE, 4'-hydroxy-2,2',4,5,5'-pentabromodiphenyl ether, has not been identified in human blood before. The identification was performed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) recording the bromine ions m/z 79, 81. The tentative identification was supported by the peaks relative retention times (RRTs) compared to authentic references on two GC columns of different polarities for the hexa-, and heptabrominated OH-PBDEs, and three different GC columns for the pentabrominated OH-PBDEs. The OH-PBDE congeners most likely originate from human metabolism of a flame retardant, i.e. polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), due to the relatively high concentrations of PBDEs in the same human blood sample and the fact that these PBDEs could form the tentatively identified OH-PBDEs via metabolic direct hydroxylation or via 1,2-shift.  相似文献

The aqueous solubilities (S(w)) at various temperatures from 283 K to 308 K and 1-octanol/water partition coefficients (K(ow)) for four polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs: 4,4'-dibromodiphenyl ether (BDE-15), 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47), 2,2',4,4',5-pentabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-99), and 2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-153)) were measured by the generator column method. The S(w) and K(ow) data revealed the effect of bromine substitution and basic structure on S(w) and K(ow). To estimate the infinite dilution activity coefficients (gamma(i)(w,infinity)) of the PBDEs in water from the S(w) data, enthalpies of fusion and melting points for those compounds were measured with a differential scanning calorimeter. Henry's Law constants (H(w)) of the PBDEs were derived from the determined gamma(i)(w,infinity) and literature vapor pressure data. Some physicochemical characteristics of PBDEs were also suggested by comparing the present property data with that of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, brominated phenols and brominated benzenes in past studies. Furthermore, in order to represent different phase equilibria including solubility and partition equilibrium for other brominated aromatic compounds using the UNIFAC model, a pair of UNIFAC group interaction parameters between the bromine and water group were determined from the S(w) and K(ow) data of PBDEs and brominated benzenes. The ability of the determined parameters to represent both properties of brominated aromatics was evaluated.  相似文献

The levels of polychlorinated camphenes (toxaphenes) were investigated in liver samples from 18 glaucous gulls (Larus hyperboreus) from Bj?rn?ya (74 degrees N, 19 degrees E) and four individuals from Longyearbyen (78 degrees N, 15 degrees E). Additionally brominated flame retardants (BFRs), PCBs and chlorinated pesticides were investigated in liver and intestinal contents of 15 of the glaucous gulls from Bj?rn?ya. Of the analysed BFRs only 2,2',4,4'-tetra- and 2,2',4,4',5-pentabrominated diphenylethers (PBDE 47 and 99) could be detected. The concentrations ranged between 2 and 25 ng/g ww. In addition, high resolution measurements with GC/HRMS revealed the existence of several, not quantified, PBDEs and polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) congeners in the samples. B9-1679 and B8-1413 were the dominating toxaphenes with median concentrations of 8 and 15 ng/g ww. Concentrations of toxaphenes and PBDEs were up to 100-times lower than the concentrations of PCB and some of the pesticides. PCB and p,p/-DDE constituted 90% of the contaminants found.  相似文献

Based on previous findings in dietary studies with carp (Cyprinus carpio), we investigated the mechanism of 2,2',4,4',5-pentabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-99) debromination to 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47) using liver and intestinal components. In vitro aerobic and anaerobic experiments tested the ability of carp intestinal microflora to debrominate BDE-99. No debromination of BDE-99 to BDE-47 was observed in microfloral samples; therefore, carp enzymatic pathways were assessed for debromination ability. After sixty-min incubation, intestine and liver microsomes exhibited 83+/-34% and 106+/-18% conversions, respectively, of BDE-99 to BDE-47; with no significant (p>0.05) difference between organ debromination capabilities. Microsomal incubations with BDE-99, enzyme cofactors and competing substrates assessed the potential mechanisms of debromination. The presence of NADPH in the microsomal assay did not significantly (p>0.05) affect BDE-99 debromination, which suggest that cytochrome P450 enzymes are not the main debrominating pathway for BDE-99. Co-incubation of BDE-99 spiked microsomes with reverse thyronine (rT3) significantly (p<0.05) decreased the debromination capacity of intestinal microsomes indicating the potential of catalytic mediation via thyroid hormone deiodinases. The significant findings of this study are that intestinal microflora are not responsible for BDE-99 debromination, however, it is an endogenous process which occurs with approximately equal activity in intestine and liver microsomes and it can be inhibited by rT3.  相似文献

We investigated whether exposure to environmentally relevant polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) causes immunomodulation in captive nestling American kestrels (Falco sparverius). Eggs within each clutch, divided by laying sequence, were injected with safflower oil or penta-BDE congeners-47, -99, -100, and -153 dissolved in safflower oil (18.7 microg sigmaPBDEs/egg) approximating Great Lakes birds. For 29 days, nestlings consumed the same PBDE mixture (15.6+/-0.3 ng/g body weight per day), reaching sigmaPBDE body burden concentrations that were 120x higher in the treatment birds (86.1+/-29.1 ng/g ww) than controls (0.73+/-0.5 ng/g ww). PBDE-exposed birds had a greater PHA response (T-cell-mediated immunity), which was negatively associated with increasing BDE-47 concentrations, but a reduced antibody-mediated response that was positively associated with increasing BDE-183 concentrations. There were also structural changes in the spleen (fewer germinal centers), bursa (reduced apoptosis) and thymus (increased macrophages), and negative associations between the spleen somatic index and sigmaPBDEs, and the bursa somatic index and BDE-47. Immunomodulation from PBDE exposure may be exacerbated in wild birds experiencing greater environmental stresses.  相似文献

Brominated flame retardants and phenolic compounds, of which several have been shown to exhibit endocrine disrupting effects, were screened in extracts of Finnish human adipose tissue samples. The samples were collected during autopsy from 39 subjects, of which 23 were males and 16 females. The samples were homogenised and extracted, and then cleaned-up by preparative gel permeation chromatography. The phenolic compounds were determined in silylated extracts. A total of 21 individual compounds were analysed in the extracts by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HRGC-LRMS) in the selected ion monitoring mode. The most commonly occurring compounds were 4-octylphenol diethoxylate, 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl, and 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47), but also some other alkylphenols, pentabromophenol, and 2,2',4,4',5-penta- and 2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexabromodiphenyl ether could be detected in 1-6 samples. The concentrations were ranging from trace amounts to 71 ng/g of lipid weight. The mean concentration of BDE-47 was 1.20 ng/g lipids, however, in 15 of the samples the concentration was below the detection limit. Compared to other European studies the average concentration of BDE-47 obtained in this study is at the lower end of the reported concentrations.  相似文献

Except for fish, no toxicokinetic data on polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) is available on relevant animals for the human food chain. In the present work, absorption, elimination through eggs and disposition of PBDEs in laying chickens were studied and compared to dioxin behaviour. Hens were fed with diet containing 3.4 mg/kg feed of PBDEs and 0.95 ng TEQ/kg feed of polychlorodibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorodibenzofurans (PCDFs). PBDEs have been demonstrated to show drastically different behaviours from PCDD/Fs and dioxin-like compounds. Excretion of PBDEs increased for two weeks and then decreased to nearly 0%. Sixty-two percent of ingested 2,2',4,4'-tetraBDE (BDE-47) were found in excreta after two weeks, suggesting a reductive debromination of PBDEs in the digestive tract. PBDE level in eggs increased during five weeks and reached 24 microg/g fat. After then, levels decreased to 3 microg/g fat at the end of the trial. PBDE bioconcentration factors estimated for abdominal fat varied from 0.7 for BDE-47 to 2 for BDE-183.  相似文献

The concentrations and distribution of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) were investigated in 28 sediment samples collected from Taihu Lake, Eastern China. The results showed that all three classes of compounds were detected in 28 sediment samples but that PBDEs were the main contaminants in the study area. The total PBDE concentrations ranged from 3.77 to 347 ng/g dry weight (dw) with a mean value of 72.8 ng/g dw, whereas the concentrations ranged from 0.168 to 2.66 and from 0.012 to 1.30 ng/g dw for HBCD and TBBPA, respectively. In all of the sediment samples, BDE-209 was the predominant congener, accounting for 95.9 to 98.6 % of the total PBDEs, which indicated that commercial mixtures of deca-BDEs were the main sources of PBDE contamination. Higher concentrations of PBDEs were found in samples collected from Meiliang Bay and Gonghu Bay near the inflow river, which suggested that inflow runoff might play an important role in the PBDE levels in Taihu Lake sediments.  相似文献

The fate of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in sewage sludge after agricultural application was analysed. This study was based on the analysis of sewage sludge and sludge amended soil samples collected during 2005. PBDE concentrations in sewage sludge ranged from 197 to 1185ng/g dry weight (dw), being deca-BDE-209 the predominant congener. PBDE levels in soils ranged between 21 and 690ng/g dw, being BDE-209 also the predominant congener in all soil samples. Sewage-sludge amendment at the research stations increased concentrations of all BDE congeners 1.2- to 45-fold, with the highest increases for BDE-209. Results obtained evidenced the cumulative effect of the sludge application rates. Moreover, high levels found at soils four years after the last sludge application indicate persistence of PBDEs in soils, including deca-BDE-209.  相似文献

Brominated flame retardants are components of many plastics and are used in products such as cars, textiles, televisions, and personal computers. Human exposure to polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants has increased exponentially during the last three decades. Our objective was to measure the body burden and distribution of PBDEs and to determine the concentrations of the predominant PBDE congeners in samples of liver, bile, adipose tissue, and blood obtained from Japanese autopsy cases. Tissues and body fluids obtained from 20 autopsy cases were analyzed. The levels of 25 PBDE congeners, ranging from tri- to hexa-BDEs, were assessed. The geometric means of the sum of the concentrations of PBDE congeners having detection frequencies >50 % (ΣPBDE) in the blood, liver, bile, and adipose tissue were 2.4, 2.6, 1.4, and 4.3 ng/g lipid, respectively. The most abundant congeners were BDE-47 and BDE-153, followed by BDE-100, BDE-99, and BDE-28+33. These concentrations of PBDE congeners were similar to other reports of human exposure in Japan but were notably lower than concentrations than those reported in the USA. Significant positive correlations were observed between the concentrations of predominant congeners and ΣPBDE among the samples analyzed. The ΣPBDE concentration was highest in the adipose tissue, but PBDEs were distributed widely among the tissues and body fluids analyzed. The PBDE levels observed in the present study are similar to those reported in previous studies in Japan and significantly lower than those reported in the USA.  相似文献

The time-trend and recent concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in Japanese mother's milk were investigated. The time-trend of 16 PBDEs (BDE-28, 37, 47, 66, 71, 75, 77, 85, 99, 100, 119, 153, 154, 138, 183, and 190) in pooled milk samples from mothers living in Osaka between 1973 and 2000 was analyzed. Additionally, PBDE concentrations in individual milk samples collected from 13 mothers living in Kanagawa and Okayama in 1999 were measured. The total concentration of all PBDE congeners (SigmaPBDEs) measured in the pooled samples increased during the period between 1973 (<0.01 ng/g lipid) and 1988 (1.64 ng/g lipid), and remained low afterwards while showing remarkable changes in PBDE congener profiles. The SigmaPBDEs in the 1999 individual milk samples were also low (0.56-3.97 ng/g lipid), except for a single sample (291 ng/g lipid). The source of this exposure could not be identified.  相似文献

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were identified in fish collected from the Detroit River, MI and Des Plaines Rivers, IL. In the Detroit River fish, carp and large mouth bass, the congener patterns were dominated by the 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromo (BDE-47) congener, however, in Des Plaines River carp the dominant isomers were the heptabromo congeners BDE-181 and BDE-183 and lesser amounts of another heptabromo congener, BDE-190, and two hexabromo congeners, BDE-154 and BDE-153. Three possible sources exist for these less-commonly identified PBDE congeners: (a) waste discharge from manufacturing or discarded products near the river, (b) public owned treatment work (POTW) effluents which constitute more than 75% of the flow in the Des Plaines River, (c) or formation of these congeners by debromination of in-place deposits of decabromodiphenyl ether. Average concentration totals (sum of concentrations for seven of the dominant PBDE congeners) were similar on a wet weight bases for the carp (5.39 ng/g wet weight) and large mouth bass (5.25 ng/g) in the Detroit River samples; however, the bass were significantly higher, p = 0.01, when compared on a lipid basis (bass--163 ng/g vs. carp--40.5 ng/g lipid weight). Some of the PBDE congeners were positively correlated with increasing lipid levels in both fish species. Average total PBDE concentrations in the carp from the Des Plaines River (12.48 ng/g wet weight) were significantly higher, p = 0.01, than in carp from the Detroit River. The residues were isolated using standard organochlorine methods for fish and analyzed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-negative chemical ionization methods.  相似文献

Recently, we reported on the analysis of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and chlorinated pesticides in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) from Maine, eastern Canada, and Norway, and wild Alaskan Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha). In this paper, we extend the analysis to polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in these samples. Total PBDE concentrations in the farmed salmon (0.4-1.4ng/g, wet weight, ww) were not significantly different from those in the wild Alaskan Chinook samples (0.4-1.2ng/g, ww), nor were significant differences found among regions. However, significant intra-regional variations in concentrations of total PBDEs and tetra-BDE 47 were observed in the salmon from the Canadian farms (p<0.01). Congener profiles were dominated by BDE-47, followed by the penta-BDEs 99 and 100. PBDE concentrations in the Canadian samples were lower than those reported two years earlier. Removal of skin resulted in no overall reduction in PBDE concentrations in our farmed salmon, and in some cases, PBDE concentrations were higher in skin-off samples. PBDEs were correlated with lipids only in the skinned samples, suggesting that there is greater accumulation and retention of PBDEs in muscle lipids than in skin-associated fat. In skin-on samples, modest correlations were observed between concentrations of PBDEs and PCBs (R(2)=0.47) and mono-ortho PCBs (R(2)=0.50), whereas PBDEs were not correlated with non-ortho PCBs.  相似文献

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are characterized by chemical properties and toxicological profiles similar to other POPs (persistent organic pollutants) included in the EU Priority Pollutant List (2455/01/CE). However, limited data have been available for these compounds thus far for Italian freshwater abiotic matrices. Lake Maggiore basin, a heavily industrialized and densely populated area, was selected for studying PBDE contamination in Italy. PBDEs and OCs (organochlorine compounds) in the basin were quantified by analysing both sediment cores collected in 2005 from the lake and grab samples from the main tributaries and the emissary. Fourteen PBDEs, from tri-BDE to hepta-BDE congeners and BDE209, were compared with some organochlorine POPs (PCBs and DDTs) characterizing Lake Maggiore basin contamination. Analyses of tri-to hepta-BDEs, PCBs and DDTs were undertaken by GC-MS/MS, while BDE-209 was analysed by GC/ECD. Results showed a dominant presence of BDE-209 (>95% of SigmaBDE) and limited amounts of BDE-47, BDE-99, BDE-100, BDE-153 and BDE-154. Lake core profiles highlighted a decreasing trend in PCB concentrations starting from the year 2000, while PBDEs showed greater concentrations after the beginning of the 1990s (up to 30 ng g(-1)d.w.). Among the tributaries, the Bardello and Boesio rivers were the most PBDE-contaminated (up to 290 ng g(-1)d.w.).  相似文献

In this study, contamination levels were determined for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and perfluorinated alkylated substances (PFASs) in traditional Greenland seafood items, such as raw and smoked fish fillet (salmon and halibut), whale and seal meat and narwhal mattak (skin and blubber). The daily intake of PCBs, PBDEs and PFASs through traditional seafood items in Greenland was assessed. Based on the presented levels of contaminants, in combination with earlier food intake studies, suggests that the daily exposure was below the tolerable daily intake threshold for all compounds. BDE-47 was the only PBDE-congener detected in all food items, except in smoked halibut. The levels of BDE-47 varied from < LOD in smoked halibut up to 18 ng/g lw in narwhal mattak and 21 ng/g lw in whale beef. ∑PCB were lowest in smoked halibut (37 ng/g lw) and highest in narwhal mattak with 1,146 ng/g lw. Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) was the most common of the PFASs. However, ΣPFASs were below detection limits in most fish fillet samples, and varied from 2.9 ng/g ww in whale beef to 13.5 ng/g ww in seal beef. The present study shows that the exclusion from the diet of local food items such as intestines and blubber have a strong positive effect for the reduction of POPs levels in food, without a reducing the health benefits of traditional food intake considerably.  相似文献

Faeces from day 1-5 of orally administered 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47) in rat have been analysed for hydroxylated metabolites. Six hydroxylated tetrabrominated diphenyl ethers, as well as three hydroxylated tribrominated diphenyl ethers found, were structurally identified. They were 2'-hydroxy-2,4,4'-tribromodiphenyl ether, 3'-hydroxy-2,4,4'-tribromodiphenyl ether, 4'-hydroxy-2,2',4-tribromodiphenyl ether, 6-hydroxy-2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether, 2'-hydroxy-2,3',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether, 3-hydroxy-2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether, 5-hydroxy-2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether, 4'-hydroxy-2,2',4,5'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether and 4-hydroxy-2,2',3,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether. The analysis was performed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The identification of the hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ether (OH-PBDE) metabolites in the rat faeces was supported by similar relative retention times (RRTs) versus 2,2',3,4,4',5-hexabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-138) on two columns of different polarities compared to the authentic references. The identification of the OH-PBDE metabolites was also supported by full scan electron ionisation mass spectra. Two of the identified OH-PBDE metabolites have identical structures as natural products, which previously have been isolated from marine sponges and an ascidian.  相似文献

The scarcity of information on polybrominated diphenyl ethers’ (PBDEs) flow in landfill restricts the life cycle analysis of PBDEs. In this study, eight PBDE congeners (BDEs 28, 47, 99, 100, 153, 154, 183, and 209) in topsoil, vegetation leaves, leachate, and municipal aged refuse collected from Shanghai Laogang Municipal Landfill (SLML) were investigated. The present study revealed elevated PBDE concentrations in topsoil and proved PBDE leakage from SLML and vegetation uptake. BDE-209 was the predominant congener, and this could be due to massive usage of deca-BDE mixture in Shanghai. ΣPBDE concentrations in leachates treated by reed wetland and A2/O process fell in the low end of the worldwide range. ΣPBDE concentrations in aged refuse samples rose from under 50 ng/g dw in 1989 to the range of 5,150–5,718 ng/g dw in 2002. PBDE concentrations increase in aged refuse samples throughout the 1990s into the 2000s paralleled municipal solid waste output from 1991 to 2002 in Shanghai. Exponential increase in BDE-209 concentration in aged refuse suggested the increasing market demands for deca-BDE mixture after 1990 in China. Notably, the inventory of PBDEs in SLML was 28.7 MT, and the doubling time of BDE-209 in aged refuse was calculated to be 1.6 year. SLML can be considered as a source of PBDE and one main recipient of PBDE as well, receiving inputs predominantly from the PBDE-containing waste. Priority should be given to formulate regulation on PBDEs and sorting work before landfill disposal.  相似文献
