• Swimming pool water was studied for DBPs upon exposure to additional stimulants. • DBP formation could be induced by residual chlorine and extended incubation. • Urine led to a massive formation of chloroform with additional stimulants. • Reactions between chlorine and anthropogenic organics were slow and long-lasting. • Urine control and air ventilation should be on the priority list for pool management. Anthropogenic organics are known to be responsible for the formation of harmful disinfection by-products (DBPs) in swimming pool water (SPW). The research explored an important scenario of SPW with no additional anthropogenic organic input. With stimulations by residual chlorine or additional chlorine and extended incubation, the formation of DBPs, especially chloroform, was significantly induced. Similar observations were found by investigating synthetic SPW made with sweat and urine. The presence of urine led to a massive formation of chloroform, as noted by an approximate 19-fold increase after 165-day incubation with a shock chlorine dose. The research suggests that consistent residual chlorine and long water retention as two typical features of SPW could unlock the DBP formation potential of anthropogenic organics. Thus, limiting the introduction of anthropogenic organics may not have an immediate effect on reducing DBP levels, because their reactions with chlorine can be slow and long-lasting. Pool management should prioritize on control of urine and improving air ventilation. This work is useful to deepen understandings about DBP formation in SPW and provide implications for pool management and prospective legislation.  相似文献

污染场地中有机氯农药对土壤原生动物群的影响   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
有机氯农药污染土壤对生态环境具有潜在的风险。采集某废弃农药厂污染场地的土壤样品,测定了土壤的理化性质,以及典型有机氯农药滴滴涕(DDTs)和六六六(HCHs)的残留浓度,并对土壤中原生动物的组成和数量进行了分析。结果显示,农药厂区域的土壤中原生动物的组成结构为:鞭毛虫和肉足虫为优势类群,纤毛虫为稀有类群。土壤理化性质与原生动物数量的相关性分析表明,总氮含量与鞭毛虫、纤毛虫数量和原生动物总数量呈显著正相关,总磷含量与肉足虫数量呈显著正相关。同时,农药厂区域土壤中的原生动物数量较对照区显著减少,污染场地中长期残留的有机氯农药对原生动物有明显抑制作用。  相似文献

Nitrification occurs in chloraminated drinking water systems and is affected by water quality parameters. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of total organic carbon and chlorine to ammonia ratio on nitrification potential in a simulated drinking water distribution system as during chloramination. The occurrence of nitrification and activity of nitrifying bacteria was primarily monitored using four rotating annular bioreactors (RAB) with different chlorine to ammonia ratios and total organic carbon (TOC) levels. The results indicated that nitrification occurred despite at a low influent concentration of ammonia, and a high concentration of nitrite nitrogen was detected in the effluent. The study illustrated that reactors 1(R1) and 3 (R3), with higher TOC levels, produced more nitrite nitrogen, which was consistent with the ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) counts, and was linked to a relatively more rapid decay of chloramines in comparison to their counterparts (R2 and R4). The AOB and HPC counts were correlated during the biofilm formation with the establishment of nitrification. Biofilm AOB abundance was also higher in the high TOC reactors compared with the low TOC reactors. The chlorine to ammonia ratio did not have a significant impact on the occurrence of nitrification. Bulk water with a high TOC level supported the occurrence of nitrification, and AOB development occurred at all examined chlorine to ammonia dose ratios (3:1 or 5:1).  相似文献

本文采用模拟水厂混凝沉淀-过滤处理工艺,进行了ClO2投量和投加点对水中酚类化合物的去除效果试验研究,并与液氯做了对比,结果表明,ClO2对酚类化合物的去除效果优于液氯,且后投ClO2的效果好于中间投和预投ClO2,双层滤料过滤好于单层滤料,这为ClO2在饮用水中的应用提供了科学依据。  相似文献

Microcystins, which represents one kind of cancerogenic organic compounds, is abundant in eutrophication water. The effects of reaction factors on chlorine dioxide (ClO2) for removal of low-concentration Microcystin-LR, Microcystin-RR, and Microcystin-YR in water as well as the reaction mechanisms was investigated by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that MC-LR, MC-RR, and MC-YR could be efficiently decomposed by ClO2. The degradation efficiency was shown positively correlated to the concentration of ClO2 and reaction time; while the effect of reaction temperature and pH is slight. The kinetic constants and activation energies of the reaction of MC-LR, MC-RR, and MC-YR with ClO2 are determined as 459.89, 583.15, 488.43 L·(mol·min)-1 and 64.78, 53.01, 59.15 kJ·mol-1, respectively. As indicated by high performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometer (HPLC-MS) analysis, degradation should be accomplished via destruction of Adda group by oxidation, with the formation of dihydroxy substituendums as end products. This study has provided a fundamental demonstration of ClO2 serving as oxidizing disinfectant to eliminate microcystins from raw water source.  相似文献

The blue mussel Mytilus edulis is one of the dominant fouling organisms in cooling water systems. In this work, how veliger larvae and different size groups of the mussels responded against chlorine dosage was examined. Veliger larvae mortality was studied at different residual chlorine concentrations (0.05–0.5 mg L?1), and it was found that a chlorine dose of 0.5 mg L?1 is 4 times as effective as 0.05 mg L?1 and twice as effective as 0.1 mg L?1. Mortality of 100% for three size groups (1.4, 14, and 25 mm) and relative physiological activities of two size groups (14 and 25 mm) were observed. The exposure duration for 100% mortality of mussels decreased with the increasing residual chlorine concentration (0.1–4.0 mg L?1). Mussel size was also found to be an important factor, considering that the continuation times for mussel mortality were 28 h for the 1.4 mm and 410 h for the 25 mm size groups. All size groups showed progressive reduction in physiological activities, such as oxygen consumption, foot activity, and byssus thread production with increasing chlorine dose (0.05–1.0 mg L?1); the two data-sets were strongly correlated with each other. The results of this study should be of significance for optimizing the chlorine content, and minimize the environmental threat to industries where mussels are the dominant fouling organisms.  相似文献

本文研究了二氧化氯对水中一些主要病毒、藻类和浮游动物的失活效果,以及在不同消毒剂投量、接触时间和pH值等条件下,二氧化氯(ClO_2)对水体中一些微生物的杀灭和失活效果.与液氯对比的结果表明:ClO_2对藻类失活效果优于或相当于液氯;ClO_2对病毒和浮游动物的失活效果显著优于液氯;ClO_2可在一广泛的pH值范围内杀灭微生物.此外,还从理论上初步探讨了ClO_2对病毒的失活机理.研究结果表明,ClO_2是一种优良的液氯替代消毒剂,这对开展ClO_2的研究及其应用有重要意义.  相似文献

• NOM formed more C-DBPs while amino acids formed more N-DBPs during chlorination • Aspartic acid and asparagine showed the highest toxicity index during chlorination • Dichloroacetonitrile might be a driving DBP for cytotoxicity and genotoxicity • Dichloroacetonitrile dominated the toxicity under different chlorination conditions Chlorination, the most widely used disinfection process for water treatment, is unfortunately always accompanied with the formation of hazardous disinfection byproducts (DBPs). Various organic matter species, like natural organic matter (NOM) and amino acids, can serve as precursors of DBPs during chlorination but it is not clear what types of organic matter have higher potential risks. Although regulation of DBPs such as trihalomethanes has received much attention, further investigation of the DBPs driving toxicity is required. This study aimed to identify the important precursors of chlorination by measuring DBP formation from NOM and amino acids, and to determine the main DBPs driving toxicity using a theoretical toxicity evaluation of contributions to the cytotoxicity index (CTI) and genotoxicity index (GTI). The results showed that NOM mainly formed carbonaceous DBPs (C-DBPs), such as trichloromethane, while amino acids mainly formed nitrogenous DBPs (N-DBPs), such as dichloroacetonitrile (DCAN). Among the DBPs, DCAN had the largest contribution to the toxicity index and might be the main driver of toxicity. Among the precursors, aspartic acid and asparagine gave the highest DCAN concentration (200 g/L) and the highest CTI and GTI. Therefore, aspartic acid and asparagine are important precursors for toxicity and their concentrations should be reduced as much as possible before chlorination to minimize the formation of DBPs. During chlorination of NOM, tryptophan, and asparagine solutions with different chlorine doses and reaction times, changes in the CTI and GTI were consistent with changes in the DCAN concentration.  相似文献

Seasonal variability in source water can lead to challenges for drinking water providers related to operational optimization and process control in treatment facilities. The objective of this study is to investigate seasonal variability of water quality in municipal small water systems (<3000 residents) supplied by surface waters. Residual chlorine and trihalomethanes (THM) were measured over seven years (2003–2009). Comparisons are made within each system over time, as well as between systems according to the type of their treatment technologies. THM concentrations are generally higher in the summer and autumn. The seasonal variability was generally more pronounced in systems using chlorination plus additional treatment. Chloroform, total THM (TTHM) and residual chlorine concentrations were generally lower in systems using chlorination plus additional treatment. Conversely, brominated THM concentrations were higher in systems using additional treatment. Residual chlorine was highest in the winter and lowest in the spring and summer. Seasonal variations were most pronounced for residual chlorine in systems with additional treatment. There was generally poor correlation between THM concentrations and concentrations of residual chlorine. Further study with these data will be beneficial in finding determinants and indicators for both quantity and variability of disinfection byproducts and other water quality parameters.  相似文献

Urban wastewater contains a wide range of pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), which are a serious concern if reusing treated wastewater. However, few studies have explored the microbial communities in reclaimed water using ultraviolet (UV)/chlorine treatment and assessed the changes of the resistome. This study investigated the occurrence of typical pathogens, ARGs, and bacterial communities in UV/chlorine-treated reclaimed water samples. The numbers of culturable and viable but non-culturable pathogens were effectively reduced to 0 CFU/mL within 1–10 and 10–30 min after UV/chlorine treatment, respectively. Meanwhile, the physicochemical indices of water quality were not affected. UV/chlorine treatment could significantly change the bacterial community structure of reclaimed water, showing a decrease in bacterial abundance and diversity. Chlorine-resistant Acinetobacter and Mycobacterium were the dominant bacterial genera (>50%) after UV/chlorine treatment. Moreover, the number of ARGs and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) decreased with an increase in UV/chlorine exposure. However, eight ARGs and three MGEs were consistently detected in more than three seasons, making these major concerns because of their potential role in the persistence and dissemination of antibiotic resistance. Overall, the results of this study suggest that UV/chlorine treatment can potentially improve the microbiological safety of reclaimed water. And more attention should be paid to the pathogens that are both chlorine-resistant and carry MGEs because of their potential for resistance transmission.  相似文献

以水中的苯酚、4-氯酚和2,4-二氯酚为研究对象,研究氯与高锰酸钾复合药剂对酚类物质的去除效果,通过紫外吸收光谱扫描分析,结果表明,氯与酚类物质的作用不能降低酚类物质对水的污染程度,且可能引起二次污染,而高锰酸钾复合药剂的作用能使酚在紫外区的特征吸收峰值有很大降低,表明高锰酸钾复合药剂对酚类物质具有很好的去除效果。  相似文献

以北京市污水处理厂二级出水为对象,考察了余氯对再生水中铜绿微囊藻(Microcystis aeruginosa)生长的影响.实验表明,0.2 mg·l~(-1)以上的余氯对铜绿微囊藻的生长有明显抑制效果,抑制率在培养第2天达60%-80%,第8天达99%,抑制效果持续60d.再生水中的氨氮浓度越高,余氯对铜绿微囊藻的抑制效果越差.氯的不同形态对铜绿微囊藻的生长抑制效果不同,氯对铜绿微囊藻的抑制效果优于氯胺.  相似文献

Swimming has become a popular exercising and recreational activity in China but little is known about the disinfection by-products (DBPs) concentration levels in the pools. This study was conducted as a survey of the DBPs in China swimming pools, and to establish the correlations between the DBP concentrations and the pool water quality parameters. A total of 14 public indoor and outdoor pools in Beijing were included in the survey. Results showed that the median concentrations for total trihalomethanes (TTHM), nine haloacetic acids (HAA9), chloral hydrate (CH), four haloacetonitriles (HAN4), 1,1-dichloropropanone, 1,1,1-trichloropropanone and trichloronitromethane were 33.8, 109.1, 30.1, 3.2, 0.3, 0.6 µg∙L−1 and below detection limit, respectively. The TTHM and HAA9 levels were in the same magnitude of that in many regions of the world. The levels of CH and nitrogenous DBPs were greatly higher than and were comparable to that in typical drinking water, respectively. Disinfection by chlorine dioxide or trichloroisocyanuric acid could substantially lower the DBP levels. The outdoor pools had higher TTHM and HAA9 levels, but lower trihaloacetic acids (THAA) levels than the indoor pools. The TTHM and HAA9 concentrations could be moderately correlated with the free chlorine and total chlorine residuals but not with the total organic carbon (TOC) contents. When the DBP concentration levels from other survey studies were also included for statistical analysis, a good correlation could be established between the TTHM levels and the TOC concentration. The influence of chlorine residual on DBP levels could also be significant.  相似文献

The formation of man-made reservoirs generates several impacts on water quality. In order to minimize some of these impacts mathematical models are currently used. This paper aims to discuss the issue associated with the degradation of plant resources (leaves, branches, barks and litter) that remain within the watershed of the new man-made lakes and parameterize a kinetic model related to decay of plant detritus. In these environments, the short-term variation of limnological parameters is mainly connected with biomass decay drowned during the filling operation. The kinetics of the degradation processes in reservoirs are discussed on the basis of information with related to detritus sources and the chemical properties of different types of compounds (i.e. labile and refractory fractions). Overall, the parameterization of the (first order) kinetic model showed that refractory fractions (ca. 86%) are predominant and the mineralization is a slow process, constituting the main route for decomposition and being affected by changes of environmental variables. The mineralization of labile and hydrosoluble compounds (ca. 14%) is responsible for the short-term water quality variation owing to decomposition; basically, the intensities of these changes depend on the labile/soluble compounds content of detritus and its chemical composition.  相似文献

文蛤养殖水体中重金属Cu的安全限量值研究   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
通过引入沉积物因子,构建海水-底泥-生物体体系,应用半静态双箱动力学模型在室内模拟了沉积物暴露条件下文蛤(Meretrix meretrix)对重金属Cu的生物富集实验。通过对富集与排出过程中文蛤体内重金属Cu的动态监测和监测结果的非线性拟合,得到了文蛤富集Cu的动力学参数:吸收速率常数k1为71.18、排出速率常数k2为0.03,生物富集系数(bioconcen-tration factors,BCF)平均值为4283.86。对模型的拟合优度检验结果显示,沉积物暴露条件下文蛤对重金属Cu的生物富集数据符合双箱模型。根据双箱动力学模型推算出来的文蛤养殖水体中Cu的安全限量值为0.017mg·L-1。实验结果表明,沉积物暴露条件下双箱动力学模型在一定条件下是可以应用于文蛤富集动力学研究的。通过对比室内模拟实验与实地调查所得BCF发现本研究得出的Cu的安全限量值略高于现有标准。  相似文献
