采用日本青鳉胚胎及幼鱼暴露评估污水处理厂进出水的综合毒性效应。水样采自广州市3个污水处理厂的进水口和出水口。96 h青鳉幼鱼急性毒性试验表明:6个水样均没有对青鳉幼鱼产生急性毒性效应。14 d胚胎暴露试验结果:3个污水处理厂的进水及1号和3号污水处理厂的出水均引起胚胎死亡,胚胎孵化率均低于70%且均与对照组产生了显著性差异(p0.05)。3个厂的进水和1号、2号厂出水的鱼苗畸形率与对照组也有显著差异(p0.05),其中3号厂进水鱼苗畸形率高达(33.73±8.94)%。而6个水样的胚胎孵化时间均与对照组无显著差异(p0.05),均在9 d左右。7 d鱼苗暴露试验结果:1、2、3号3个水厂进水的鱼苗死亡率分别是(30.16±2.75)%,(24.07±1.60)%,(37.90±4.77)%,与对照组产生明显差异(p0.05)。出水对鱼苗的致死效应明显低于进水,但出水对鱼苗的致死效应相对于对照组仍有显著差异(p0.05)。  相似文献

Different dilution levels of tannery treated effluent and their corresponding concentration of chromium (Cr6+) were studied in a petridish culture experiment on seed germination and seedling growth in radish (Raphanus sativus L). The different concentrations of Cr6+ (2, 5 and 10 ppm) and treated tannery effluent (10, 25 and 50%) showed reduction in seedling growth and related enzymatic activities with increase in concentration of Cr6+ in treatments and effluent both. The low concentration of chromium (2 ppm) and effluent dilution (10%) showed significant growth reduction separately. At this concentration of chromium and effluent dilution chlorophyll content, amylase, catalase and protein contents remained unchanged while with increase in Cr6+ concentration (>2ppm) and effluent dilution (> 10%) in treatments showed growth inhibitory effects.  相似文献

The acute toxicity of abattoir and sewage effluents on Chironomus travalensis was determined in a 96?h static bioassay. The toxicity was undertaken in replicates using effluent concentrations between 5% and 100%. Determination of the physical and chemical parameters of both effluents was carried out. The abattoir effluent was toxic to the test organisms at different concentrations while the sewage effluent did not produce lethality. The 96?h LC50 value of the abattoir effluent was 23%. The acute toxicity unit at 96?h was 4.3. To avoid the adverse effect of effluent waste to aquatic life, it is recommended that effluent waste needs to be channelled through normal treatment procedures in industrial and residential areas.  相似文献

The bioavailability of iron in seawater filtered through a 0.025-m filter was investigated using 59Fe-labeled iron uptake by the macroalga Laminaria japonica (Areschoug: Phaeophyta) (collected in the northern Japan Sea 1993) as an assay. About 80% of the iron in the 0.025-m filtered coastal seawater was soluble and/or small colloidal organically bound iron, associated with natural organic ligands forming complexes with ferric ion. After decomposition of the organic matter by ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, 55% of the iron addition [or 0.6 nM, nearly the concentration of Fe(OH) 2 + in equilibrium with amorphous hydrous ferric oxide in seawater at pH 8.0] in the 0.025-m filtered coastal seawater was taken up by the macroalga. Since the iron concentrations in the 0.025-m filtered coastal seawater are 0.1 to 2.0 nM and only 0.6 nM of the iron is likely available to biota over 1 to 2 d, we suggest that only small amounts of bioavailable iron exist in coastal seawater not affected by inflow from land and that a significant fraction of dissolved (<0.025 ) iron occurs in forms, such as organic iron complexes, other than the simple hydroxo-complex species predicted by thermodynamic models.  相似文献

In the present study effect of fertilizer factory effluent on seed germination, seedling growth and chlorophyll content of gram (Cicer aeritenum) has been carried out, at different concentration of the effluent and time intervals. The effluent is alkaline in nature with strong ammonia odour. The germination percentage of seed, seedling growth and chlorophyll content showed a gradual decline with increase in effluent concentration. At 25% concentration of the effluent, growth promotion in terms of root, shoot length and increase in chlorophyll content recorded at 21 days. However, at higher concentrations of the effluent toxic effects were observed at 21 days. The study suggests that the effluent can be used safely for Cicer aeritenum cultivation, only after proper treatment and dilution.  相似文献

Under the reutilization and recycling strategy of industrial effluents, treated distillery and sugar factory mixed effluent was used in petridish culture experiments to investigate its effect on seed germination and seedling growth in wheat, garden pea, black gram and mustard. The seed germination and seedling growth were significantly reduced with increase in concentration of the effluent. The fresh matter was found significantly increased in barley (1.16 g per seedling in 25% dilution level of effluents in comparison to 0.93 in control), while other higher dilution levels reduce it. Wheat, garden pea, black gram, mustard invariably showed inhibition in fresh weight. Dry weight was found consistently reduced or unchanged in different treatments. Total chlorophyll contents in barley were significantly increased in different treatments (2.351 and 2.721 mg/g fresh weight of tissue at 25, 50% dilution levels in comparison to 1.781 of control) while in other crop it was reduced alloverthe treatments. Amylase activity in wheat, garden pea, black gram and mustard was reduced in all the treatments. Only in barley its level was enhanced from 0.76 to 0.85, 0.96, 0.81 in 25, 50, 75% dilution levels of the effluent mixture respectively Based on the data of different crops barley was found to be highly tolerant as the 25 and 50% dilution levels of combined effluents. It showed no change in germination %, while seedling growth was increased in lower dilution levels of combined effluent as compared to control Barley>garden pea>wheat>black gram>mustard gradually showed increased level of sensitivity respectively Most detrimental effects were seen in mustard. This toxicity might be due to excess of nutrients, beyond the limits of tolerance. Therefore, the higher concentration of mixed effluent was not advisable for irrigation purpose, however it could be used for irrigation purpose after proper treatment and dilution (one part treated effluent and five parts of available irrigation water), as this dilution level was found growth and yield promotory  相似文献

The relationship between the osmotic pressures of the blood and the ambient medium was determined for 4 species of bivalve molluscs whose habitats represent distinct salinity regimes within the range from fresh to full seawater. These organisms included 3 corbiculids: Corbicula manilensis (freshwater); Polymesoda caroliniana (brackish-water); Pseudocyrena floridana (marine) and 1 unionid: Elliptio lanceolata. On the basis of the data and similar measurements from the literature, we have placed the molluscs into 5 categories: marine stenohaline, marine euryhaline, oligohaline, fresh-water euryhaline and freshwater stenohaline. Marine stenohaline and euryhaline species are osmoconformers. They differ only in the size of the free amino acid pool available for intracellular volume regulation, and thus in the range of salinities that they tolerate. Oligohaline species tolerate salinities from seawater down to freshwater; they not only possess a large capacity for volume regulation, but can also osmoregulate below 3 S. Freshwater species also osmoregulate below 3 S, but they are usually limited to salinities below 2. Presumably, in evolving from the marine to the freshwater habit, they have lost the ability to volume-regulate in response to hyperosmotic stress. We propose that the varying physiological characteristics underlie the well-known relationship that species abundance declines from both freshwater and full seawater to a minimum between 3 and 5 S. We have related this species minimum to physical-chemical discontinuities in the ionic composition of seawater which are, again, reflected in the physiological mechanisms of the molluscs.Contribution No. 50 from the Tallahassee, Sopchoppy and Gulf Coast Marine Biological Association.  相似文献

Zygotes and young embryos derived from Fucus vesiculosus collected in the archipelgo of Stockholm in 1990, growing at a salinity of 6 to 7 S, were cultured under different salinity conditions and in media of different bromine concentrations. Optimum salinity was 10 to 12 S for germination (rhizoid initiation) while apical hair formation showed a broader tolerance curve with an optimum at 8 to 14 S. Bromine caused inhibition of early development of F. vesiculosus. At 6 salinity a 50% reduction in germination took place at 10.0 mM Br and at 1.25 mM Br only 4.7% of the embryos developed apical hairs, as compared to 32.7% in the control. Bromine toxicity decreased at higher salinities. The results indicate that F. vesiculosus in the Baltic Sea has diverged from its Atlantic progenitors and to some extent acclimated to low salinity. Still, the salinity in the normal environment of the tested population is lower than optimum, leading to a lower degree of germination of zygotes, a lower growth rate of young embryos and probably also a higher sensitivity to additional stress factors such as chemical pollution.  相似文献

The accumulation of arsenate from seawater by the shore crab Carcinus maenas L. (collected from Odense Fjord, Denmark in 1991 and from Restronguet Creek, UK in 1991) was investigated in a series of laboratory experiments. A field study was also carried out to determine the effects of raised environmental arsenic concentrations on intra-organismal distribution and tissue concentrations. Studies on the influence of nutritional state and sex on accumulation of As(5) from seawater indicated that most of the arsenic taken up from seawater in laboratory experiments was retained in the gills and the midgut gland. Arsenic accumulation exhibited sex-dependent differences which were also evident in correlation analyses carried out between total lipid contents and total arsenic contents of midgut glands of individual crabs. Arsenic concentrations in the gonads of both sexes were strongly influenced by the nutritional state of the crabs. Elevated arsenic concentrations in seawater and food at an arsenic polluted site (Restronguet Creek) significantly influenced arsenic concentrations and distribution among the tissues of C. maenas. Arsenic concentrations and distribution patterns differed markedly from those crabs from an unpolluted site in Odense Fjord. The gills of the crabs from Restronguet Creek contained extremely high arsenic concentrations ranging from 179 to 483 g As g-1 dry wt. These values were even higher than those measured in the gills of Odense crabs that had been exposed to 3 mgl-1 As(5) for 2 wk in the laboratory. Arsenic concentrations in the exoskeleton of Odense Fjord crabs were 15 times lower than those measured in exoskeletons of Restronguet Creek crabs. Approximately 69% of the total body burden of arsenic was located in muscle tissue of crabs from Odense Fjord, whereas the major pool of arsenic (46%) in Restronguet Creek crabs was located in the exoskeleton.  相似文献

As much as 89, 176 and 292 g Cd g-1 dry weight were accumulated by adult Crassostrea virginica after treatment for 40 wk with 5, 10 and 15 g Cd kg-1, respectively, in flowing seawater at ambient salinity and temperature without mortalities. Cadmium accumulation increased with increased concentration of cadmium in seawater; greater amounts were accumulated during the summer months. Uptake patterns measured as cadmium content were similar among the total soft parts, gill, mantle and visceral mass. A continuous increase of cadmium concentration in the visceral mass was observed. This differed from the uptake patterns observed as cadmium concentration in gill, mantle and total soft parts. Although cadmium accumulation in the total soft parts and the tissues was curvilinear over the entire study period, significant linear relations between cadmium concentration and time indicated a general increasing trend. At seawater temperatures below 6°C, when oysters were not actively feeding, cadmium concentrations in the total soft parts varied significantly between treatments, but not within treatments. In the tissues, the rate of uptake expressed as cadmium concentrations was visceral mass>gillmantle. Cadmium concentration in the total soft parts varied inversely with dry weight, whereas cadmium concentration in the total soft parts increased, whereas the content decreased. Cadmium concentration decreased in mantle and gill but increased in the visceral mass during spawning, whereas cadmium content decreased in all tissues. Regression analyses indicated that during spawning dry weight decreased at the same rate in gill and mantle, but they lost less weight and lost it more slowly than visceral mass. Also, during spawning, cadmium content decreased in mantle and gill at the same rate but more slowly than in the visceral mass. In mid-August, Cd concentration decreased despite the continuous addition of cadmium to the seawater; however, Cd content increased, suggesting that organism weight was responsible for fluctuations in cadmium concentrations.  相似文献

Crassostrea virginica Gmelin were subjected to simulated tidal fluctuations of salinity, and the subsequent effects on osmotic and ionic composition of the pericardial fluid, body water and valve movements were investigated. Ambient salinity fluctuation patterns of 20-10-20, 15-10-15 and 10-5-10 were simulated during 24.8-h periods. An additional 10-5-10 S experiment was performed using a dilution water approximating the ionic composition of Mississippi River water with regard to Mg++, Ca++ and SO 4 = , instead of deionized water. Finally the effects of a 2-week diurnal fluctuation pattern between 20 and 10 S were investigated with respect to pericardial fluid composition. Pericardial fluid osmolality, concentrations of Cl-, Na+, Mg++, K+, Ca++ and ninhydrin-positive substances (NPS) were analyzed periodically throughout all experiments. Pericardial fluid osmolality was slightly hyperosmotic as ambient water salinity decreased during a cycle, and then became slightly hyposmotic as ambient salinity increased. In the 2-week experiment, pericardial fluid osmolality tracked ambient seawater closely through Day 5, but became more intermediate between high and low seawater values as the experiment progressed. Similar patterns during fluctuations of salinity were observed for Na+, Cl-, Mg++ and Ca++. Pericardial fluid K+ levels did not track ambient seawater as closely as did other ions. The ionic composition of dilution water had little effect on the osmotic or ionic response of the oyster's pericardial fluid. Pericardial fluid NPS level varied inversely with salinity during the 20-10-20 cycle. During the longterm fluctuation experiment, NPS values gradually decreased over the 2-week period compared to constant salinity control values. Percent body water also varied inversely with ambient salinity. Solute movement accounted for most of the change in pericardial fluid osmolality during the simulated cycles with water movement responsible for 1 to 11%. Water movement contributed more to the change of pericardial fluid osmolality during the decreasing salinity phase than the increasing phase of a given cycle. During 20-10-20 S cycles, oyster valves remained open 56% of the time (n=23). In contrast, when salinity was abruptly changed from 20 to 10 within 5 min, valve closure occurred in 4.8±0.3 min (n=20). Effects of natural stressors such as tidepool strandings, air exposure, and low salinity on blood-glucose levels were investigated in the sea hare Aplysia dactylomela from shallow areas of Discovery Bay, Jamaica. All treatments produced large and significant elevations in blood-glucose titre, 1.5-to 2.3-fold above baseline levels of 25 to 35 g glucose ml-1. Response times were variable, with significant elevations being manifested within 30 to 120 min from initiation of the stressor. Recovery was swift, within an hour or two of restoration to pretreatment conditions, and often involved an undershoot to levels below control values. In two experiments involving tidepool strandings and associated high body-temperatures, excessively low blood-glucose titres were followed by death of all test individuals. When sea hares were exposed to 75 and 50% seawater (100%=33S) for 1 h, maximum elevation in blood-glucose concentrations occurred 1 to 2 h from onset of exposure, coincidental with maximum dilution of the body fluids of test individuals. The responsiveness of blood-glucose titres to relatively small temperature or salinity changes, or to short-duration air exposures, suggests that monitoring this physiological parameter may be a useful and sensitive means of diagnosing a wide variety of stressors in marine gastropods.  相似文献

Fucus distichus L. was collected near Vancouver, Canada, in late fall and early winter, 1981. The effects of the forms of nitrogen (nitrate, ammonium or urea) and periodic exposure to air on growth, rhizoid development and nitrogen uptake in germlings was investigated. Gamete release, fertilization, germination and germling growth had no requirement for a specific form of nitrogen. Periodic exposure to air increased secondary rhizoid development twofold. Nitrate and ammonium uptake rates of the germlings were higher than for the mature thalli (20 to 40 times for nitrate and 8 times for ammonium), while the halfsaturation constant (K s) values for nitrate were similar (1 to 5 M). The germlings showed saturable uptake kinetics but the mature thalli did not. When germlings were exposed to air it caused a 70% decrease in nitrate uptake, but not change in ammonium uptake. Ammonium uptake in the mature thalli was proportional to the ambient ammonium concentration. Nitrate uptake in the mature thalli appeared to follow saturation kinetics at low nitrate concentrations, but showed a non-saturable component at concentrations greater than 10 M. Presence of ammonium inhibited nitrate uptake by the mature plants but not by the germlings.  相似文献

Rainwater concentrations of either ammonium or nitrate were sufficient to stimulate chlorophyll a (chl a) production in bioassay experiments using Gulf Stream surface water collected off North Carolina during the summer of 1991. Previous studies primarily examined inshore waters and did not address the impact of rainwater ammonium. An increase in chl a occurred within 1 d of the addition of synthetic rainwater (2 or 5% rainwater, 98 or 95% seawater) containing up to 10 M ammonium; this increase was followed by a decrease in chl a the following day. A similar response to nitrate addition (5% addition of 20 M nitrate rain) was observed. In separate experiments, natural rainwater having nitrate and ammonium concentrations less than those in the experimental synthetic rain yielded a greater chl a response than synthetic rain when added at similar dilutions (0.5 to 5.0% rain). The maximum dissolved inorganic nitrogen concentration in the enriched seawater in these bioassays was 1.8 M; prior to enrichment the maximum was < 0.4 M. Bioassay experiments begun 2 d after a major storm event (sustained NE winds with gusts to 13 m s-1 and ca. 390 mol m-2 inorganic nitrogen deposition from rain) showed a chl a increase in response to addition of natural rainwater, but not to synthetic rainwater with similar dissolved inorganic nitrogen concentration. These results suggest that phytoplankton stimulants, in addition to nitrate and ammonium, exist in natural rain but not in the synthetic rain used in these experiments.  相似文献

The study has been focused on effect of untreated distillery effluent (Devans Breweries Ltd., Jammu) on germination of gobi sarson (Brassica napus. L. var. Punjabi Special). Six treatments (E0.... E100) each having three replicates were made. E0 was taken as control in which tap water was used for irrigation of the plants. For E20, E40, E60, E80 and E100, different concentrations i.e. 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% of effluent were used for irrigation, respectively. The 100% sample of distillery effluent analyzed for various physicochemical parameters showed acidic nature (pH 4.0) and higher values of COD (2496 mg l(-1)), TDS (799.7 mg l(-1)) and chlorides (1408 mg l(-1)). The parameters e.g. percent germination, germination index, speed of germination, and peak value were highest in treatment receiving 20% effluent concentration which also showed minimum values for percent inhibition, germination period, and delay index.  相似文献

Influence of calcium on sodium fluxes was investigated in the brackish-water crab Carcinus mediterraneus Csrn., after activation of sodium regulatory mechanisms, during longterm acclimation in diluted (15.9 S) sea water. The 22Na outflux constants measured in whole crabs are noticeably lower (0.188 to 0.374h-1) in diluted sea water enriched by calcium (5.8 to 10.4 mM Ca2+/l), than in ordinary diluted sea water (0.545 h-1). The sodium-outflux constants in hemolymph, gills and muscle show the same trend of slower exchange of 22Na in calcium-enriched sea water. In ordinary sea water, the total sodium-outflux rate from the hemolymph amounts to 46.31 M Na/g/h, while in calcium-enriched sea water (8.23 mM Ca2+/l) it is inhibited, amounting to 13.86 M Na/g/h. Sodium and potassium concentrations of intracellular muscles in diluted sea water enriched with calcium and control diluted sea water are similar. The outflux of intracellular sodium from the muscle amounts to 2.84 M Na/g/h in crabs acclimated to diluted sea water.  相似文献

The osmo-ionoregulatory responses of sub-adult Port Jackson sharks, Heterodontus portusjacksoni (Meyer, 1793), and the stingaree Trygonoptera testacea (Müller and Henle, 1841), were investigated following the transfer from full-strength seawater (100% SW) to either 75 or 50% SW for up to 168 h. The plasma osmotic pressure was similarly reduced in both species and remained slightly hyper-osmotic to the diluted seawater after 168 h. The increase in the body weight of H.␣portusjacksoni transferred to diluted seawater was double that of T.testacea, with the greater haemodilution reflected by a short-term reduction in haematocrit and in haemoglobin concentration. The haemodilution exhibited by H. portusjacksoni also resulted in a greater reduction in plasma [Na], [Cl], [urea] and [trimethylamine oxide] compared with T. testacea. The ability of T. testacea to minimize body-weight gain in diluted seawater was most probably due to increased net water efflux. The persistent elevation in the body weight of both species, despite the apparent recovery of plasma-water volume, was indicative of elevated tissue water. Chronic exposure of H. portusjacksoni to 50% SW altered erythrocyte ion concentrations and plasma/erythrocyte ion ratios, which could have serious implications for cellular homeostasis, respiratory gas transport and acid-base status. The greater control of water and ionic status exhibited by T.testacea, compared with that of H.portusjacksoni, allows the stingarees to penetrate into the more dilute, upper estuarine waters. Potential environmental effects of the discharge of industrial wastewater from manufacturing of bleached straw pulp have been studied. Bleached neutral sulphite straw pulping results in discharges of both black cooking and spent bleaching liquors. Time proportional samples were taken from the combined bleaching effluent and the combined mill effluent, (i) Mutagenic activity of the two samples in an Ames’ test, and (ii) acute toxicity of the combined mill effluent sample towards the photosynthetic activity of natural marine phytoplankton from the receiving waters were determined. Also, acute toxicity was determined of the slowly biodegradable or persistent organics remaining after aerobic stabilization of the sample towards (ii) photosynthetic activity of natural phytoplankton, (iii) mussels (Mytilus edulis), (iv) eels (Anguilla anguilla) and, (v) crustacean (Nitocra spinipes); and furthermore, (vi) reproduction test of the crustacean and (vii) growth inhibition test of the marine diatom (Phaeodactylum tricornutum) were performed. Mutagenicity emission factors (MEF's) and toxicity emission factors (TEF's) were calculated to classify the effluents. Combined mill effluent sample showed a mutagenic activity per t90 of one fourth the activity of a kraft pulp bleaching effluent, and the inhibition of the photosynthesis of natural phytoplankton was significant up to 2600 times dilution. After aerobic stabilization, inhibition was observed up to 400 times dilution. Other effects of the combined mill effluent sample were only significant below 40 times dilution. The bleaching effluent showed a mutagenic activity per t90 comparable to kraft bleaching effluents. Other effects were only significant below 20 times dilution.  相似文献

城镇污水处理厂废水中存在大量生物毒性物质,但该废水对动物的生殖能力影响研究还十分缺乏。利用大型溞暴露实验,检测广州市某采用A~2/O工艺的城镇污水处理厂出水的急性毒性和生殖毒性。48 h急性毒性实验表明,所有水样均未表现出急性毒性效应。慢性生殖毒性(14 d)测试结果表明:(1)从进水到缺氧池出水均能显著提高第一胎产溞数量;(2)进水和沉砂池出水显著增加受试期总产溞数量;(3)从厌氧池到出水工艺段受试溞的第一胎产溞时间均推后;(4)好氧池出水的毒性显著降低,但仍然对大型溞具有生殖毒性。研究表明,好氧池(A~2/O)工艺能够显著去除具有大型溞生殖毒性的物质,但污水处理厂废水的生殖毒性仍需要引起关注。  相似文献
