A field experiment was conducted in a rice–winter wheat rotation agroecosystem to quantify the direct emission of N2O for synthetic N fertilizer and crop residue application in the 2002–2003 annual cycle. There was an increase in N2O emission accompanying synthetic N fertilizer application. Fertilizer-induced emission factor for N2O (FIE) averaged 1.08% for the rice season, 1.49% for the winter wheat season and 1.26% for the whole annual rotation cycle. The annual background emission of N2O totaled 4.81 kg N2O–N ha−1, consisting of 1.24 kg N2O–N ha−1 for rice, 3.11 kg N2O–N ha−1 for wheat seasons. When crop residue and synthetic N fertilizer were both applied in the fields, crop residue-induced emission factor for N2O (RIE) was estimated as well. When crop residue was retained at the rate of 2.25 and 4.50 t ha−1 for each season, the RIE averaged 0.64% and 0.27% for the whole annual rotation cycle, respectively. Based on available multi-year data of N2O emissions over the whole rice–wheat rotation cycle at 3 sites in southeast China, the FIE averaged 1.02% for the rice season, 1.65% for the wheat season. On the whole annual cycle, the FIE for N2O ranged from 1.05% to 1.45%, with an average of 1.25%. Annual background emission of N2O averaged 4.25 kg ha−1, ranging from 3.62 to 4.87 kg ha−1. It is estimated that annual N2O emission in paddy rice-based agroecosystem amounts to 169 Gg N2O–N in China, accounting for 26–60% of the reported estimates of total emission from croplands in China.  相似文献

A competitive real-time (RT) immuno-polymerase chain reaction (iPCR) (RT-iPCR) assay was developed for the sensitive quantification of 17β-estradiol in water. Using a universal iPCR method and polyclonal antibodies, 17β-estradiol was accurately quantified at concentrations ranging from 1 pg mL?1 to 10 µg mL?1. The RT-iPCR assay's limit of detection was 0.7 pg mL?1. The RT-iPCR assay provided an 800-fold increase in sensitivity as well as an expanded working range compared with the corresponding enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Assay cross-reactivity to estrone and estriol, two structurally related estrogens, was below 8%. Water samples spiked with 17β-estradiol were analyzed by RT-iPCR to determine the assay's potential as a rapid screen for the monitoring of manure-borne estrogens in the environment. The assay showed recoveries of 82, 102 and 103% for Milli-Q, tap, and irrigation water, respectively, without requiring sample extraction or concentration prior to analysis.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A speciated, hourly, and gridded air pollutants emission modeling system (SHEMS) was developed and applied in predicting hourly nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3) levels in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA). The primary goal of the SHEMS was to produce a systemized emission inventory for air pollutants including ozone precursors for modeling air quality in urban areas.

The SHEMS is principally composed of three parts: (1) a pre-processor to process emission factors, activity levels, and spatial and temporal information using a geographical information system; (2) an emission model for each source type; and (3) a post-processor to produce report and input data for air quality models through database modeling. The source categories in SHEMS are point, area, mobile, natural, and other sources such as fugitive emissions. The emission database produced by SHEMS contains 22 inventoried compounds: sulfur dioxide, NO2, carbon monoxide, and 19 speciated volatile organic compounds. To validate SHEMS, the emission data were tested with the Urban Airshed Model to predict NO2 and O3 concentrations in the SMA during selected episode days in 1994. The results turned out to be reliable in describing temporal variation and spatial distribution of those pollutants.  相似文献

To understand the characteristics of non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC) abundance in an urban air of Nagoya, one of the metropolitan areas of Japan, 48 species of C2–C11 NMHCs were measured with a measurement system, developed in this study, by using gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC/FID) continuously for one year from December 2003 to November 2004.Annual mean concentration of NMHCs in normal and propylene equivalent (PE) in Nagoya was compared with those in four urban areas of Seoul, London, Lille, and Dallas to extract characteristics of urban air. While the absolute values of the normal and PE concentrations of alkanes, alkenes, alkyne, and aromatics were significantly different among these urban areas, the proportions of each chemical group to the total NMHC were not so different.In Nagoya, the total normal concentration was high from November to February and low from June to August. The pattern of the seasonal variation was influenced mainly by that of alkanes. On the other hand, the total PE concentration was high from July to December and low from January to June. The pattern of the seasonal variation was influenced mainly by those of alkenes and aromatics. Particularly the normal concentration of isoprene was high from May to September because of large emission associated with activity of plants. As the results, in summer, the PE concentration of isoprene was especially high, and its contribution to the total NMHCs measured in this study was approximately 40%. The total PE concentrations were high in summer when the concentration of OH radicals is also high, suggesting that the productions of ozone and secondary organic aerosol (SOA) are likely to be promoted in summer of Nagoya.  相似文献

In order to achieve sustainable development in agriculture, it is necessary to quantify and compare the energy, economic, and environmental aspects of products. This paper studied the energy, economic, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission patterns in broiler chicken farms in the Alborz province of Iran. We studied the effect of the broiler farm size as different production systems on the energy, economic, and environmental indices. Energy use efficiency (EUE) and benefit-cost ratio (BCR) were 0.16 and 1.11, respectively. Diesel fuel and feed contributed the most in total energy inputs, while feed and chicks were the most important inputs in economic analysis. GHG emission calculations showed that production of 1000 birds produces 19.13 t CO2-eq and feed had the highest share in total GHG emission. Total GHG emissions based on different functional units were 8.5 t CO2-eq per t of carcass and 6.83 kg CO2-eq per kg live weight. Results of farm size effect on EUE revealed that large farms had better energy management. For BCR, there was no significant difference between farms. Lower total GHG emissions were reported for large farms, caused by better management of inputs and fewer bird losses. Large farms with more investment had more efficient equipment, resulting in a decrease of the input consumption. In view of our study, it is recommended to support the small-scale broiler industry by providing subsidies to promote the use of high-efficiency equipment. To decrease the amount of energy usage and GHG emissions, replacing heaters (which use diesel fuel) with natural gas heaters can be considered. In addition to the above recommendations, the use of energy saving light bulbs may reduce broiler farm electricity consumption.  相似文献

Samples were pre-concentrated on silica gel at −78°C and subsequently desorbed on to a gaschromatographic column for separation and flame ionization detection. Particulate (POC) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is an important parameter for the pollution assessment of coastal marine systems, especially those affected by anthropogenic, domestic, and industrial activities. In the present paper, a similar marine system (Saronikos Gulf) located in the west-central Aegean Sea (eastern Mediterranean Sea) was examined, in terms of the temporal and spatial distribution of organic carbon (POC and DOC), with respect to marine sources and pathways. POC was maximum in winter in the Saronikos Gulf, due to the bloom of phytoplankton, whereas in the Elefsis Bay (located in the north side of the Saronikos Gulf) in summer, since phytoplankton grazes in the Bay in the end of summer (except for winter). Approximately 60 % of the bulk DOC of the water column was estimated as non-refractory (labile and semi-labile), due to the major anthropogenic, domestic, and industrial effects of the region and the shallow depths. The spatial distribution of POC and DOC mainly affects the northeastern section of the Gulf, since that region has been accepted major organic discharges for a long time period, in connection to the relatively long renewal times of its waters.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the effect of exogenous urea in increased concentration gradient (0, 100, 500 and 1,000 mg L?1) on photosynthetic pigments (measured spectrophotometrically), uptake of 14CO2 (using radioisotope), and urease activity (by measuring ammonia with Nessler’s reagent) in leaves of Elodea densa Planch. We have observed that low concentration of urea (100 mg L?1) stimulates the accumulation of photosynthetic pigments and intensifies photosynthesis in E. densa, whereas high concentration (1,000 mg L?1) suppresses these processes. Urease activity increased by approximately 2.7 and 8 fold when exogenous urea concentrations were 100 and 500 mg L?1, respectively. However, exogenous urea in high concentration (1,000 mg L?1) decreased urease activity by 1.5 fold compared to the control. The necessity of mitigating urea and other nitrogen-containing compounds (NH3 from urea) in water bodies has been discussed with emphasis on the potential for phytoremediation of urea using common water weed viz. Human activities have increased anthropogenic CO2 emissions, which are believed to play important roles in global warming. The spatiotemporal variations of CO2 concentration and flux at fine spatial scales in aquaculture ponds remain unclear, particularly in China, the country with the largest aquaculture. In this study, the plot-scale spatiotemporal variations of water CO2 concentration and flux, both within and among ponds, were researched in shrimp ponds in Shanyutan Wetland, Min River Estuary, Southeast China. The average water CO2 concentration and flux across the water–air interface in the shrimp ponds over the shrimp farming period varied from 22.79?±?0.54 to 186.66?±?8.71 μmol L?1 and from ??0.50?±?0.04 to 2.87?±?0.78 mol m?2 day?1, respectively. There was no remarkable difference in CO2 concentration and flux within the ponds, but significantly spatiotemporal differences in CO2 flux were observed between shrimp ponds. Chlorophyll a, pH, salinity, air temperature, and morphometry were the important factors driving the spatiotemporal patterns of CO2 flux in the shrimp ponds. Our findings highlighted the importance and spatiotemporal variations of CO2 flux in the important coastal ecosystems.

Landfill gas (LFG) management is one of the most important tasks for landfill operation and closure because of its impact in potential global warming. The aim of this work is to present a case history evaluating an LFG capture and treatment system for the present landfill facility in Córdoba, Argentina. The results may be relevant for many developing countries around the world where landfill gas is not being properly managed. The LFG generation is evaluated by modeling gas production applying the zero-order model, Landfill Gas Emissions Model (LandGEM; U.S. Environmental Protection Agency [EPA]), Scholl Canyon model, and triangular model. Variability in waste properties, weather, and landfill management conditions are analyzed in order to evaluate the feasibility of implementing different treatment systems. The results show the advantages of capturing and treating LFG in order to reduce the emissions of gases responsible for global warming and to determine the revenue rate needed for the project’s financial requirements. This particular project reduces by half the emission of equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) compared with the situation where there is no gas treatment. In addition, the study highlights the need for a change in the electricity prices if it is to be economically feasible to implement the project in the current Argentinean electrical market.

Implications: Methane has 21 times more greenhouse gas potential than carbon dioxide. Because of that, it is of great importance to adequately manage biogas emissions from landfills. In addition, it is environmentally convenient to use this product as an alternative energy source, since it prevents methane emissions while preventing fossil fuel consumption, minimizing carbon dioxide emissions. Performed analysis indicated that biogas capturing and energy generation implies 3 times less equivalent carbon dioxide emissions; however, a change in the Argentinean electrical market fees are required to guarantee the financial feasibility of the project.  相似文献
