利用气相色谱对浙江三门湾H30柱样沉积中长链烯酮、正构烷烃和多环芳烃组成和来源进行分析,并对柱样沉积中相关有机地化指标与厄尔尼诺/拉尼娜事件的关联性进行了探讨。正构烷烃GC谱图显示碳数分布范围为C14-C35,呈双峰型,低碳峰群的主峰为C17-C19,高碳峰群的主峰为C27-C31,这种分布特征表明三门湾沉积物中陆地高等植物和海洋菌藻类的烷烃共存。根据多环芳烃的菲/蒽比值、荧蒽/芘比值、2-3环化合物总量和4环以上化合物总量等可推断,三门湾沉积地层中的多环芳烃主要来源于化石燃料的不完全燃烧物和石油源(航运事件)。基于精确的。mPb定年,1822-2005年间正构烷烃和多环芳烃含量分布、分子组合特征指数可能与厄尔尼诺,拉尼娜事件具有一定的关联。具体表现在,长链正构烷烃的含量与总多环芳烃含量变化具有良好的一致性,二者含量和花、CPI、烷烃C旷C19在厄尔尼诺年增加(尤其在厄尔尼诺结束年),指示陆源有机质输入和海洋菌藻类一致增加;而二者含量和∑C21/∑C22+、烷烃C15.C19在拉尼娜事件时降低,表明海洋菌藻类减少。  相似文献

Five sediment traps were moored at depths of 740, 940, 1 440, 3 440 and 4 240 m for 7 d in December 1982 at Station 5 in the eastern North Pacific about 400 km from San Francisco. Dark green sinking particles enclosed in tough membrane consisted of mostly coccolithophores with some diatoms, dinoflagellates and chrysophytes. The average size of the particles was 10x5x2 mm. These characteristics indicate that the particles were fecal pellets of salp inhabiting the surface waters. Vertical fluxes of the organic carbon and nitrogen through sinking of the salp fecal pellets ranged from 6.7 to 23 mgC m-2 d-1 and from 0.88 to 3.2 mgN m-2 d-1, respectively. These values were several times higher than those determined in other oceanic areas by sediment trap experiments. Hydrocarbons consisting of short-chain n-alkanes (n-C15-C20) with n-C17, the most predominant component, heneicosa-hexaene (n-C21:6), br-C25 alkenes and long-chain n-alkanes (n-C21-C30), without any odd or even carbon number predominance, were found from five depths. The presence of short-chain n-alkanes and n-C21:6 indicated that phytoplankton in the surface waters was a primary source of organic matter in the sinking particles. Two isomers of br-C25:3 and br-C25:4 alkenes found in these particles also indicated that br-C25 alkenes were the important biological marker of fecal pellet of zooplankton. The distribution pattern of the long-chain n-alkanes suggested that the sinking particles may be affected by bacteria to some extent. Fatty acids of the sinking particles were separated into free, triglyceride and wax ester fractions consisting of mono- and poly-unsaturated, and saturated fatty acids, with a range from C14 to C30. Concentrations of mono- and poly-unsaturated fatty acids decreased more rapidly toward the deep than those of saturated fatty acids, which cause low ratios of mono- and poly-unsaturated fatty acids/saturated fatty acids. This indicates that unsaturated fatty acids were more rapidly decayed by marine microbes than saturated fatty acids in the deep water, despite the fact that a significant amount of unsaturated fatty acids still remained in the sinking particles collected from the deep waters. Our results revealed that the salp fecal pellet plays an important role in supplying foods to organisms in intermediate and deep seas.  相似文献

Lipids of the Arctic ctenophore Mertensia ovum, collected from Kongsfjorden (Svalbard) in 2001, were analysed to investigate seasonal variability and fate of dietary lipids. Total lipids, lipid classes and fatty acid and alcohol compositions were determined in animals, which were selected according to age-group and season. Changes in lipids of age-group 0 animals were followed during growth from spring to autumn. Total lipids increased from May to September. Lipids as percentage of dry mass were lowest in August indicating their use for reproduction. Higher values occurred in September, which may be due to lipid storage for overwintering. Wax esters were the major lipid class accounting for about 50% of total lipids in age-group 0 animals from July and August. Phospholipids were the second largest lipid fraction with up to 46% in this age-group. The principal fatty acids of M. ovum from all age-groups were 22:6(n-3), 20:5(n-3) and 16:0. Wax ester fatty alcohols were dominated by 22:1(n-11) and 20:1(n-9) followed by moderate proportions of 16:0. The unique feature of M. ovum lipids was the high amount of free fatty alcohols originating probably from the dietary wax esters. In May, free alcohols exhibited the highest mean proportion with 14.6% in age-group 0 animals. We present the first data describing a detailed free fatty alcohol composition in zooplankton. This composition was very different from the alcohol composition of M. ovum wax esters because of the predominance of the long-chain monounsaturated 22:1(n-11) alcohol accounting for almost 100% of total free alcohols in some samples. The detailed lipid composition clearly reflected feeding of M. ovum on the herbivorous calanoid species, Calanus glacialis and C. finmarchicus, the abundant members of the zooplankton community in Kongsfjorden. Other copepod species or prey items seem to be less important for M. ovum.  相似文献

Surface sediments from the Svartnes basin (195 m deep) in Balsfjorden, northern Norway (ca. 70°N), were partially characterized to assess the nature and origin of the organic material present and its potential nutritive value for sediment-ingesting animals. Seasonal analyses were carried out on material collected between May 1979 and August 1980 for total organic matter, organic C and N, acid-extractable amino acids and lipids extractable with chloroform:methanol. Little or no seasonal variation was seen in any of the parameters analysed. The mean apparent organic content was 9.3% of sediment dry weight, the organic C content was 2.38%, the organic N content was 0.26% and the C:N ratio was 9.1:1. Acid hydrolysis of sediment yielded 575 mg of amino acids and 41 mg of NH3 per 100 g sediment dry weight, the composition of the amino acids being similar to that of nutritionally highquality animal or microbial protein. Glucoseamine was not detected in acid hydrolysates of sediment, consistent with the absence of chitin. Chloroform:methanol extraction yielded 133 mg of material per 100 g sediment dry weight, 62% of which was accounted for by saponifiable lipids (fatty acids) and non-saponifiable lipids present in approximately equal amounts. Fatty alcohols accounted for 30% of the non-saponifiable lipids and phytol accounted for 40% of the fatty alcohols. Small amounts of very long-chain fatty alcohols characteristic of terrestrial plants were present, but long-chain monounsaturated fatty alcohols characteristic of marine zooplankton were essentially absent. Very small quantities of long-chain ketones characteristic of marine coccolithophores were detected. The major fatty acids present in sediments were 16:0, 14:0, 16:1 (n-7) and 18:1 (n-9), and 11% of the total fatty acids were comprised of a mixture of odd-numbered straight-chain and branched-chain moieties characteristic of micro-organisms. The data point to small amounts of material characteristic of marine and terrestrial photosynthetic organisms being present in sediments at any given time, whereas material characteristic of marine zooplankton is not present. The presence of material characteristic of micro-organisms is consistent with conversion of sedimenting material into a pool of sediment micro-organisms. Although the biological availability to sediment-ingesting organisms of the esterified fatty acids and the acid-extractable amino acids in sediments remains to be assessed, the maximum amounts available are equivalent to approximately 60 mg of polar lipid and 575 mg of protein per 100 g sediment dry weight. These amounts are small in relation to the production rates in the photic zone of the fjord, implying that the bulk of the energy flow in Balsfjorden occurs in its relatively short pelagic food chains.  相似文献

Lipid compositions of the dominant Antarctic copepods Calanoides acutus, Rhincalanus gigas and Calanus propinquus from the Weddell Sea have been investigated in great detail. Copepods were collected during summer in 1985 and late spring/early winter in 1986. The analyses revealed specific adaptations in the lipid biochemistry of these species which result in very different lipid components. The various copepodite stages of C. acutus synthesize wax esters with long-chain monounsaturated moieties and especially the alcohols consisted mainly of 20:1(n-9) and 22:1(n-11). R. gigas also generates wax esters, but with moieties of shorter chain length. The fatty alcohols consisted mainly of 14:0 and 16:0 components, while the major fatty acids were 20:5, 18:4 and 22:6, of which 18:4 probably originated from dietary input. In contrast, C. propinquus accumulates triacylglycerols, a very unusual depot lipid in polar calanoid copepods. Major fatty acids in C. propinquus were the long-chain monounsaturates 22:1(n-9) and 22:1(n-11), which may comprise up to 50% of total fatty acids. In C. acutus and C. propinquus there was a clear increase of long-chain fatty acids with increasing developmental stage. In contrast, the fatty acid and alcohol composition of the R. gigas copepodite stages were characterized by the dominance of the polyunsaturated fatty acids as well as high amounts of the monounsaturates 18:1(n-9) and 16:1(n-7). There was a considerable decrease of the dietary fatty acid 18:4(n-3) towards the older stages during summer; in late winter/early spring 18:4 was only detected in very low amounts. This tendency was also found in the other two species, but was less pronounced. In all three species dry weight and lipid content increased exponentially from younger to older stages. The highest portion of wax esters, or of triacylglycerols in C. propinquus, was found in the adults. Dry weight and lipid content were generally higher during summer. In late winter/early spring the variability was more pronounced and lipid-rich specimens showed a selective retention of long-chain monounsaturated fatty acids, whereas in lipid-poor specimens these fatty acids were very much depleted.  相似文献

对渤海典型海域表层沉积物正构烷烃特征进行比较研究.分别采集葫芦岛市近岸海域(1#)、东营市近岸海域(2#)、营口市近岸海域(3#)9个站点的表层沉积物样品,经索氏提取、柱净化后进行GC-MS分析.结果表明,各站位都表现为双峰型,显示了陆源与海源双重贡献特征,但主导峰各不相同;正构烷烃含量(∑n-alk)均值分别为5.43μg.g-1、2.27μg.g-1、4.30μg.g-1;三海域碳优势指数CPI、奇偶优势指数OEP、姥鲛烷和植烷比值Pr/Ph等特征比值基本相同,指示混合来源及中性偏氧化的沉积环境;C31/C19均值分别为11.19、4.51、6.73,短/长链比值L/H均值分别为0.50、1.48、1.31,类脂物比值TAR均值分别为3.61、1.03、1.19,综合显示葫芦岛市近岸海域正构烷烃来源主要为陆源高等植物,而营口及东营近岸海域沉积物正构烷烃更多来源于内生浮游生物源及石油源,三海域沉积物受人类污染影响程度从高到低分别为2#海域(东营)>3#海域(营口)>1#海域(葫芦岛市),且东营近岸海域沉积物受石油污染特征明显.这些特征都与3个海域周边城市发展与污染输入特征有直接的关系.  相似文献

The nutritional value of Artemia sp. as food for marine fish and crustacean larvae has been linked to the level of its polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) content. Experiments in August 1984 were conducted to determine the effects of various artificial diets and algae on fatty acid composition of PUFA-deficient Artemia sp. (Utah GSL strain) and their resulting value as food for postlarvae of the prawn Penaeus monodon (Fabricius). Nauplii of the brine shrimp were grown on extracts of corn, copra, soybean and rice bran containing precursors (C18) to long-chain PUFA and also on algal species containing different levels of long-chain PUFA (C20). The nauplii were then used as food for P. monodon postlarvae. The results revealed that absence of C20 polyunsaturates from the feeds and their presence in the algae were reflected in the polyunsaturated fatty acid content of the tissues of Artemia sp. When fed with brine shrimp fed on algae, P. monodon displayed better postlarval survival and significantly higher growth; related to the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids in Artemia sp. A practical feeding approach in prawn hatcheries would be to grow Artemia sp. on a cheap diet such as rice bran, and then to enhance its nutritional value with a diet high in PUFA prior to harvesting, in order to improve hatchery production.  相似文献

The calanoid copepods Calanus hyperboreus and C. finmarchicus were investigated in view of their lipid and wax ester content and their fatty acid and alcohol composition. Analyses were performed in females and copepodid stages V and IV from the Fram Strait region between Greenland and Spitsbergen in 1984. This region offers different food conditions like diatom blooms in the North East Water Polynya, food shortage in areas with very close ice cover, high phytoplankton biomass in the marginal ice zone and lower biomass in the open Atlantic water. Lipids contained generally more than 70% wax esters. Highest levels were found in C. hyperboreus with more than 90%. This percentage was not very variable, in spite of large differences in dry weight and lipid content. Copepods with particularly high weight and lipid content were found in the North East Water Polynya. The lightest individuals were found under the pack ice. Lipid proportions per unit dry weight were higher in C. hyperboreus than in C. finmarchicus, whose lowest values were found in the open Atlantic water. Spatial variability in fatty acid composition was much higher than in alcohol composition. The principle alcohols, 20:1 and 22:1, generally accounting for more than 80% of total alcohols. In the North East Water Polynya, the predominant monounsaturated fatty acid was 16:1, while under the ice 20:1 and 22:1 dominated. In the marginal ice zone and in the open water, the 18:4 acid reached percentages up to 30% of total fatty acids. These changes were related to the different food conditions. C. hyperboreus appears to be best adapted to the cold water and unfavourable conditions of polar regions because of its high lipid and wax ester store with long-chain wax esters of high calorific value.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to identify genes involved in long-chain alkane degradation in Dietzia sp. DQ12-45-1b. Functional genes were annotated by genome analysis. Induction of alkane hydroxylase genes by C28 n-alkane was analyzed by using quantitative real-time PCR in wild-type Dietzia sp. DQ12-45-1b and its alkW1 gene knockout mutant strain M 5-5. From the genome of Dietzia sp. DQ12-45-1b, two homologues, G1 and G2 genes were annotated, which showed 50% amino acid sequence similarity with AlmA from Acinetobacter sp. DSM17874, and 48% amino acid sequence similarity with LadA from Geobacillus thermodenitrificans NG80-2, respectively. In addition, G1 showed 71% amino acid sequence similarity with G1a, and G2 showed 34% and 87% amino acid sequence similarities with G2a and G2ß, respectively, which were annotated from Dietzia sp. E1 genome. In addition, the alkW1 gene knockout strain M 5-5 could grow with C28 n-alkane as the sole carbon source, indicating the presence of potential long-chain alkane hydroxylase gene(s) other than alkW1 in Diezia sp. DQ12-45-1b. Accordingly, induction of G1 and G2 genes was observed when Dietzia ap. DQ12-45-1b and alkW1 knockout mutant strain M 5-5 grew with C28 n-alkane as sole carbon source. The results indicated that G1 and G2 genes are mostly responsible for the degradation of long-chain alkanes in Dietzia sp. DQ12-45-1b, which has unique multiple alkane hydroxylase systems.  相似文献

Livestock grazing has been practiced in salt marshes in the Wadden Sea area since 600 B.C. Currently livestock grazing is also applied for conservation management. However, effects of such grazing management on salt marshes are likely to vary depending on the species of livestock and stocking density due to differences in the behaviour of the animals. Yet, little is known about the behaviour of different livestock species and stocking densities grazing in salt marshes. We studied the grazing behaviour of horses and cattle by focal observation in an experiment with four different grazing treatments on a coastal salt marsh. In all treatments we recorded diet choice, movement and grazing activity, and spatial distribution. Livestock species shared an overlap in diet choice. Yet, horses more often foraged on the short grass Puccinellia maritima, while the cattle diet contained a higher amount of Aster tripolium. Horses travelled longer distances per day and spent more time grazing than cattle. Spatial distribution of cattle was significantly clustered, while horses showed a random distribution utilizing the whole area. Animal behaviour differs between livestock species and stocking densities with respect to diet choice, activity and spatial distribution.  相似文献

The influence of the crab Parasesarma erythrodactyla on the entry of the organic matter derived from Avicennia marina mangrove leaves in a sub-tropical mangrove ecosystem of southeast Queensland, Australia, was simulated using tidal mesocosms. Degradation of mangrove leaf organic matter was followed by analysing the fatty acid composition, carbon, and nitrogen isotopic signatures of the surface sediment and suspended particulate organic matter (SPOM) with and without the presence of crabs. Assimilation of mangrove organic matter by P. erythrodactyla was also assessed by stable isotope and fatty acid analyses in tissues and faeces. Results of the chemical tracer analyses question the adaptability of P. erythrodactyla to a diet comprised exclusively of mangrove leaves, and suggest that these organisms were dependent on additional food sources in their natural environment. Crab processing of senescent leaves significantly accelerated the transfer of mangrove organic matter to the surface sediments, as shown by a higher C/N ratio, a higher contribution of long-chain fatty acids and a more depleted C isotopic signature of sediment samples in the mesocosms with crabs compared to those without crabs.  相似文献

Grazing with livestock is a common feature of nature and rangeland management. Although both aim at different, seemingly opposing goals, i.e. maintenance of biodiversity values versus maximization of animal production, they nonetheless have a common interest in maintaining the rangeland or natural environment in a state that ensures either the first or the second goal. In order to accomplish an effective and efficient grazing management, in terms of grazer density, grazer composition, grazing seasonality, and to prevent under- and overgrazing, a grazing capacity model (GCM) was developed, that should be applicable in both rangeland and nature conservation management conditions and that takes spatio-temporal environmental variation into account. This spatio-temporally dynamic model considers crucial variables at both the terrain and the grazer level, such as (seasonally) fluctuating forage yield, forage quality, plant palatability, accessibility of the area, soil erosion vulnerability, animal nutritive requirements, animal behaviour and general habitat condition. It predicts the optimal grazer species and density, taking into account the seasonal variation in animal needs and fluctuating terrain characteristics. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to define each parameter's relative impact on the final outcome of the model.We present the GCM outline and illustrate the functionality of this model for Shetland ponies and Highland cattle, grazing in a temperate coastal dune environment. According to the model, seasonal fluctuations in optimal grazer densities occur: the area can support higher densities in summer and autumn than it can during winter and spring. With the current density of grazing animals and the choice for year-round grazing at non-fluctuating animal densities, the model consequently predicts overgrazing in winter and undergrazing in summer and autumn. Both undergrazing and overgrazing scenarios might lead to non-sustainable situations in the future.  相似文献

In this study we evaluate the effect of coastal re-alignment on the utilisation of coastal grasslands by staging geese. We assessed vegetation change and utilisation by geese using repeated mapping and regular dropping counts in both the restored marsh and adjacent reference sites. All measurements were started well before the actual re-alignment. In addition, we studied the effects of livestock grazing on vegetation and geese, using exclosures. The vegetation transformed from fresh grassland into salt-marsh vegetation. A relatively large proportion of the de-embanked area became covered with secondary pioneer vegetation, and the overall cover of potential food plants for geese declined. Goose utilisation had initially dropped to low levels, both in autumn and in spring, but it recovered to a level comparable to the reference marsh after ten years. Exclosure experiments revealed that livestock grazing prevented the establishment of closed swards of grass in the poorly drained lower area of the restored marsh, and thereby negatively affected goose utilisation of these areas during spring staging. Goose grazing in the restored marsh during spring showed a positive numerical response to grass cover found during the preceding growing season. (1) The value of restored salt marsh as foraging habitat for geese initially decreased after managed re-alignment but recovered after ten years. (2) Our findings support the idea that the value of foraging habitats depends largely on the cover of forage plants and that this can be manipulated by adjusting both grazing and drainage.  相似文献

The total lipid and wax ester content as well as the fatty acid and alcohol composition of all copepodid stages and adults of Calanus finmarchicus s.l. were investigated at different locations in the North Sea in 1983 and 1984. Total lipid and the wax ester proportion increased exponentially until Copepodid V. The females were sometimes lower in lipids than the Stage V. The wax ester proportion reached about 90% of total lipids in males and Copepodid V and up to 40% in Copepodid I. The major fatty acids were 16:0, 20:5, and 22:6 and the major fatty alcohols were 16:0, 20:1 and 22:1. At one station the 18:4 acid became one of the dominant acids, because of a Phaeocystis sp. bloom, indicating that the fatty acids of the diet are incorporated mostly unchanged into the lipids of the copepods. The other main fatty acids 20:1 and 22:1 are probably synthesized de novo, serving as precursors for the principal alcohols 20:1 and 22:1. Their levels decreased in the younger stages due to increases in 16:0 alcohol. The fatty alcohol-forming enzyme seems to be specific for saturated and monounsaturated acids, which may be synthesized de novo or derived from diet.  相似文献

We tested the usefulness of the fatty acid signature-method in investigating the diet of seabirds in conjunction with the conventional technique of stomach-content analysis. We compared the fatty acid composition of subcutaneous white adipose tissue (SWAT) of king penguin chicks (Aptenodytes patagonicus) during fattening periods to that of total lipids from their food. In both spring and autumn, the fatty acid composition of chick SWAT was identical to that of the dietary lipids. Because the diet of adult king penguins feeding for self-maintenance (i.e. not for their chicks) was essentially unknown, we subsequently analysed their SWAT fatty acid patterns after premolting and prebreeding foraging trips (during which they build up large energy reserves). The fatty acid composition of SWAT from adults was identical to that of chick adipose tissue and food. King penguin diet and SWAT were characterized by high levels of very long-chain mono-unsaturated fatty acids (20 to 24 carbon atoms, 16 to 23% by mass) and (n-3) poly-unsaturated fatty acids (19 to 27%); these consisted mainly of 20:1n-9 (5 to 8%) and 22:1n-11 (5 to 8%), and 22:6n-3 (10 to 13%) and 20:5n-3 (3 to 9%), respectively. Prey items identified from chick stomach contents indicated that the bulk of the food was oceanic myctophid fishes, mainly Electrona carlbergi, Krefftichthys anderssoni and Protomyctophum tenisoni. The fatty acid composition of four other species of myctophid fishes was similar to that of penguin diet and SWAT, but markedly different from that measured for a squid species and that reported for crustaceans. These findings indicate that adult king penguins prey on myctophid fish not only to feed their chicks but also for their own nutrition. The fatty acid signature-technique is therefore a reliable method to gain information on the food and feeding ecology of seabirds when more conventional techniques are of limited value. Such information is important to the understanding of trophic relationships between key species of the ecosystems, and also to provide insight into the nature of avian adaptations to the marine environment. Wax esters, which function as reserve fuels, account for 25 to 40% of the lipid of the pelagic copepod Calanus helgolandicus (Copepoda, Calanoida). In laboratory experiments with these crustaceans, diatoms (Lauderia borealis, Chaetoceros curvisetus, and Skeletonema costatum) and dinoflagellates (Gymnodinium splendens), which contained no wax esters, were used as food. Changes in the food concentration affected both the amount of lipid and the composition of the wax esters. Since the fatty acids of the triglycerides and wax esters of C. helgolandicus resembled the dietary fatty acid composition, it appeared that copepods incorporated their dietary fatty acids largely unchanged into their wax esters. The polyunsaturated alcohols of the wax esters did not correspond in carbon numbers or degrees of unsaturation to the dietary fatty acids. We postulate two different metabolic pools to explain the origin of these long chain alcohols. The phospholipid fatty acids were not affected by changes in the amount or type of food, probably because of their structural function.  相似文献

Fatty acid composition of the natural and aquarium-reared common jellyfish Aurelia aurita was investigated. Fatty acid composition of the aquarium-reared A. aurita clearly reflected that of the diet, brine shrimp (Artemia). In the same way, fatty acid composition of the natural A. aurita was assumed to reflect those of natural diets. Samples of natural A. aurita were collected from April 1995 to September 1995 in the Seto Inland Sea, Japan, and their fatty acids were analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Variation of fatty acid compositions was seasonal rather than dependent on body size. Two major seasonal groups were divided by the cluster analysis of the A. aurita fatty acid composition: the April–June and the August–September clusters. The April–June cluster was characterized by high contents of the (n − 3)-fatty acids of diatom origin, accumulated via the grazing food chain. By contrast, the August–September cluster was characterized by an increase in (n − 6)-fatty acids of macroalgal origin, probably transferred via the detritus food chain. Lipid analyses were carried out on various species of zooplankton captured in Saanich Inlet, British Columbia, Canada, during September, 1972. The amphipod Cyphocaris challengeri had the highest level of lipid, consisting mainly of wax esters. The copepod Calanus pacificus had moderate amounts of lipid, with triglyceride as the major neutral lipid. The euphausiid Thysanoessa raschii contained mainly triglyceride in its moderate levels of neutral lipid, while wax esters and, to a lesser extent, triglycerides were present in the very small levels of neutral lipid in the chaetognath Sagitta elegans. The major fatty alcohols in wax esters of both Cyphocaris challengeri and Calanus pacificus were 20:1 and 22:1, although notable differences were found in the major fatty acids. Biosynthetic studies showed that phospholipids were labelled faster than neutral lipids in all species with both (U-14C) glucose and (1-14C) palmitic acid as precursors. Only species containing significant amounts of wax esters in their neutral lipids incorporated substantial amounts of radio-activity from (1-14C) palmitic acid into wax esters in (i) living animals, (ii) preparations containing fragments of tissue, (iii) cell-free systems. All species incorporated added fatty alcohols into wax esters in preparations containing tissue fragments and in cell-free preparations. Both the fatty acid and fatty alcohols of the wax esters of both Calanus pacificus and S. elegans were labelled from (1-14C) palmitic acid, consistent with de novo biosynthesis of the esters. (1-14C) hexadecanol was incorporated into wax esters almost entirely in the fatty alcohol moiety. It is concluded that all species examined formed was esters when presented with preformed fatty alcohols, but only those species that had wax esters as a major component of the neutral lipids were capable of de novo biosynthesis of the lipids.  相似文献

Larval growth rate and settlement of the European flat oyster Ostrea edulis were experimentally studied as a function of the composition of dietary fatty acids. Diets differing in fatty acid composition were composed by mixtures of the microalgae Isochrysis galbana, Pavlova lutheri and Chaetoceros calcitrans. Fatty acid content in the tissue of the feeding larvae, analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, reflected the composition in the diet. Larval growth rate was significantly correlated to the three omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) C18:3, C18:4 and C22:6, with minor differences for neutral and polar lipids. No relation between growth rate and the omega-3 PUFA C20:5 was detected, a PUFA often implied as essential for bivalves. It is suggested that naturally occurring variability in fatty acid composition may constrain larval growth. In settlement experiments in both still water and flume flow little substrate selectivity was found for some contrasting substrates. It is concluded that differences in dietary fatty acids may explain as much of settlement success as the variability of substrates. Received: 12 October 1998 / Accepted: 6 April 1999  相似文献
