Numerous epidemiological studies have demonstrated the association between particle mass (PM) concentration in outside air and the occurrence of health related problems and/or diseases. However, much less is known about indoor PM concentrations and associated health risks. In particular, data are needed on air quality in schools, since children are assumed to be more vulnerable to health hazards and spend a large part of their time in classrooms. On this background, we evaluated indoor air quality in 64 schools in the city of Munich and a neighbouring district outside the city boundary. In winter 2004–2005 in 92 classrooms, and in summer 2005 in 75 classrooms, data on indoor air climate parameters (temperature, relative humidity), carbon dioxide (CO2) and various dust particle fractions (PM10, PM2.5) were collected; for the latter both gravimetrical and continuous measurements by laser aerosol spectrometer (LAS) were implemented. In the summer period, the particle number concentration (PNC), was determined using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS). Additionally, data on room and building characteristics were collected by use of a standardized form. Only data collected during teaching hours were considered in analysis. For continuously measured parameters the daily median was used to describe the exposure level in a classroom. The median indoor CO2 concentration in a classroom was 1603 ppm in winter and 405 ppm in summer. With LAS in winter, median PM concentrations of 19.8 μg m−3 (PM2.5) and 91.5 μg m−3 (PM10) were observed, in summer PM concentrations were significantly reduced (median PM2.5=12.7 μg m−3, median PM10=64.9 μg m−3). PM2.5 concentrations determined by the gravimetric method were in general higher (median in winter: 36.7 μg m−3, median in summer: 20.2 μg m−3) but correlated strongly with the LAS-measured results. In explorative analysis, we identified a significant increase of LAS-measured PM2.5 by 1.7 μg m−3 per increase in humidity by 10%, by 0.5 μg m−3 per increase in CO2 indoor concentration by 100 ppm, and a decrease by 2.8 μg m−3 in 5–7th grade classes and by 7.3 μg m−3 in class 8–11 compared to 1–4th class. During the winter period, the associations were stronger regarding class level, reverse regarding humidity (a decrease by 6.4 μg m−3 per increase in 10% humidity) and absent regarding CO2 indoor concentration. The median PNC measured in 36 classrooms ranged between 2622 and 12,145 particles cm−3 (median: 5660 particles cm−3).The results clearly show that exposure to particulate matter in school is high. The increased PM concentrations in winter and their correlation with high CO2 concentrations indicate that inadequate ventilation plays a major role in the establishment of poor indoor air quality. Additionally, the increased PM concentration in low level classes and in rooms with high number of pupils suggest that the physical activity of pupils, which is assumed to be more pronounced in younger children, contributes to a constant process of resuspension of sedimented particles. Further investigations are necessary to increase knowledge on predictors of PM concentration, to assess the toxic potential of indoor particles and to develop and test strategies how to ensure improved indoor air quality in schools.  相似文献

Atmospheric transport of trace elements has been found to be an important pathway for their input to the ocean. TSP, PM10, and PM2.5 aerosol samples were collected over the Northern South China Sea in two cruises in 2003 to estimate the input of aerosol from continent to the ocean. About 23 elements and 14 soluble ions in aerosol samples were measured. The average mass concentration of TSP in Cruise I in January (78 μg m−3) was ∼twice of that in Cruise II in April (37 μg m−3). Together with the crustal component, heavy metals from pollution sources over the land (especially from the industry and automobiles in Guangzhou) were transported to and deposited into the ocean. The atmospheric MSA concentrations in PM2.5 (0.048 μg m−3 in Cruise I and 0.043 μg m−3 in Cruise II) over Northern South China Sea were comparable to those over other coastal regions. The ratio of non-sea-salt (NSS)-sulfate to MSA is 103-655 for Cruise I and 15-440 for Cruise II in PM2.5 samples, which were much higher than those over remote oceans. The estimated anthropogenic sulfate accounts for 83–98% in Cruise I and 63–95% in Cruise II of the total NSS-sulfate. Fe (II) concentration in the aerosols collected over the ocean ranged from 0.1 to 0.9 μg m−3, accounting for 16–82% of the total iron in the aerosol, which could affect the marine biogeochemical cycle greatly.  相似文献

Aerosol samples were collected using a stacked filter unit (SFU) for PM10-2.0 and PM2.0 size fractions on the platform of a metropolitan underground railway station in downtown Budapest. Temporal variations in the PM10 mass concentration and wind speed and direction were determined with time resolutions of 30 and 4 s using a tapered-element oscillating microbalance (TEOM) and a wind monitor, respectively. Sample analysis involved gravimetry for particulate mass, and particle-induced X-ray emission spectrometry (PIXE) for elemental composition. Diurnal variation of the PM10 mass concentration exhibited two peaks, one at approximately 07:00 h and the other at approximately 17:00 h. The mean±SD PM10 mass concentration for working hours was 155±55 μg m−3. Iron, Mn, Ni, Cu, and Cr concentrations were higher than in outdoor air by factors between 5 and 20, showing substantial enrichment compared to both the average crustal rock composition and the average outdoor aerosol composition. Iron accounted for 40% and 46% of the PM10-2.0 and PM2.0 masses, respectively, and 72% of the PM10 mass was associated with the PM10-2.0 size fraction. The aerosol composition in the metro station (in particular the abundance of the metals mentioned above) is quite different from the average outdoor downtown composition. Mechanical wear and friction of electric conducting rails and bow sliding collectors, ordinary rails and wheels, as well as resuspension, were identified as the primary sources. Possible health implications based on comparison to various limit values and to data available for other underground railways are discussed.  相似文献

PM10 levels of the mineral components Si, Al, Fe, Ca, Mg and some trace metals were measured at three different sites in the urban area of Vienna (Austria). Observed trace metal concentrations varied between less than 0.1 ng m?3 (Cd) and approximately 200 ng m?3 (Zn), mineral components showed enhanced concentrations ranging from 0.01 μg m?3 (Ca) to 16.3 μg m?3 (Si). The contribution of the respective mineral oxides to PM10 mass concentrations accounted on average for 26.4 ± 16% (n = 1090) of the PM10 mass, with enhanced rates in spring and autumn (monthly averages of up to 40%) and decreased contributions in the cold season (monthly averages below 10%). The atmospheric occurrence of Al, Ti and Sr could be assigned to crustal sources, whereas for the elements Ba, Ca, Fe, Mg, Mn and V an increased contribution of non-crustal origin was observed. PM10 levels of As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Sb, Sn and Zn were predominantly derived from man-made emissions. Intersite comparison indicated that urban PM10 mass concentrations and PM10 levels of As, Pb and Zn were predominantly influenced from the transport of aerosols from outside into the city, whereas for the elements Ba, Mg, Ca, Cu and Fe a distinctly increased impact of local emissions was observed. The contribution of these urban emissions to total PM10 concentrations was estimated by calculating the so-called “urban impact”, which was found to be 32.7 ± 18% (n = 392) in the case of PM10 mass concentrations. The investigated elements accounted on average for 31.3 ± 19% (n = 392) of the observed PM10 mass increase. The mean values for the “urban impacts” of individual elements varied between 25.5% (As) and 77.0% (Ba).  相似文献

Natural mineral dust storms (DS) from the Arabo-African region blow over the Mediterranean, reach Israel, and add to the anthropogenic particulate pollution. The effects of mineral dust on air quality in Israel were investigated using only PM10 and PM2.5 automatic measurements. The method does not require any other inputs such as satellite observations, model back-trajectories, dust forecast models, or mineralogical analyses. The method employs an automatic algorithm with three thresholds: the half-hour PM10 average must be above 100, this level is maintained for at least 3 h, and the maximum concentration recorded is above 180 μg m?3. The algorithm was designed for Israel, but can be adapted for other locations. The contribution of DS caused PM10 values to exceed the Israeli annual standard of 60 μg m?3 year?1 in 6 of the 12 years examined. The DS contribution to PM10 annual average ranged from 9.4% to 29.5%. The level recommended by WHO, 20 μg m?3 year?1, was exceeded every year even without the DS contribution. The number of days in which the daily Israeli standard (150 μg m?3) was exceeded during the 12 years was 6–20 days per year. The number of days in which the daily standard was exceeded shows an increasing trend of 7 days per decade.PM2.5 in Israel is in the range 40–56% of PM10. PM2.5 values were over the recommended standard with and without DS. The contribution of DS to annual average of PM2.5 ranged from 3.6% to 19.1%.The automatic algorithm was calibrated with a list of Dust Storms identified by visual means supported by mineralogical analysis. Mineralogical analyses of single particles were performed using Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM). Two representative samples are given. The main difference is that the particles of the Saudi-Arabian storm had much more palygorskite, while the North-African storm had more sea-salt and organic particles. The mineral composition differences indicate that analysis can differentiate between sources.  相似文献

Aerosol from the burning two types of sandalwood-based incense, Hsing Shan and Lao Shan, was analyzed to characterize the chemical profile of total particulate matter emitted. The total particulate matter (PM) mass emission factors were 46.3 ± 2.68 mg g?1 of Hsing Shan incense and 43.7 ± 1.08 mg g?1 of Lao Shan incense. Chemical analysis of emissions from the two types of incense revealed that of the 25 components in four groups characterized, anhydrosugars formed the major group, at 46.7–52.2% w/w of the identified particulate and 1078.3–1169.8 μg g?1 of incense, followed by inorganic salts at 30.4–31.8% w/w of identified particulate and 681.6–734.0 μg g?1 of incense, carboxylic acids at 12.0–17.1% w/w of the identified particulate and 268.6–392.8 μg g?1 of incense, and sugar alcohols at 4.44–5.38% w/w of the identified particulate and 102.3–120.6 μg g?1 of incense. More anhydrosugars and sugar alcohols were emitted from Lao Shan incense than from Hsing Shan incense whereas more carboxylic acids and organic salts were emitted from Hsing Shan than from Lao Shan. These differences were due to structural and functional differences in the young sandalwood used to make Hsing Shan and the aged sandalwood used to make Lao Shan. The anhydrosugar levoglucosan, used as a marker of biomass burning, was always the most abundant species in emitted PM for both incenses (Lao Shan 21.7 mg g?1 of PM and Hsing Shan 18.7 mg g?1). K+ and Cl? were the second most abundant components (K+ and Cl? were summed), accounting for 10.6 mg g?1 of Hsing Shan PM and 9.85 mg g?1 of Lao Shan PM. The most abundant carboxylic acids in the emissions were formic, acetic, succinic, glutaric and phthalic acid. The latter is a fragrance ingredient and a potential health hazard and was twice as prevalent in Lao Shan emissions. Xylitol was the most prevalent of the sugar alcohols at 35.7–36.6% w/w of total identified sugar alcohols. These abundant species are potential markers for incense burning. K+, levoglucosan, mannosan and xylitol are already reported in discriminator ratios for wood burning and it is proposed here that these can and should also apply to incense burning. The calculated discriminator ratios for two types of incense burning reported here are 0.229–0.288 for K/Levo, 12.5–13.5 for Levo/Manno, and 21.5–23.7 for the novel discriminator ratio Levo/Xylitol.  相似文献

Italy is frequently affected by Saharan dust intrusions, which result in high PM10 concentrations in the atmosphere and can cause the exceedances of the PM10 daily limits (50 μg m?3) set by the European Union (EU/2008/50). The estimate of African dust contribution to PM10 concentrations is therefore a key issue in air quality assessment and policy formulation. This study presents a first identification of Saharan dust outbreaks as well as an estimate of the African dust contribution to PM10 concentrations during the period 2003–2005 over Italy. The identification of dust events has been carried out by looking at different sources of information such as monitoring network observations, satellite images, ground measurements of aerosol optical properties, dust model simulations and air mass backward trajectory analysis. The contribution of Saharan dust to PM10 monthly concentrations has been estimated at seven Italian locations. The results are both spatially (with station) and temporally (with month and year) variable, as a consequence of the variability of the meteorological conditions. However, excluding the contribution of severe dust events (21st February 2004, 25th–28th September 2003, 23rd–27th March 2005), the monthly contribution of dust varies approximately between 1 μg m?3 and 10 μg m?3 throughout year 2005 and between 1 μg m?3 and 8 μg m?3 throughout year 2003. In 2004 the dust concentration is lower than 2003 and 2005 (<5 μg m?3 at all sites). The reduction in the number of daily exceedances of the limit value (50 μg m?3) after subtraction of the dust contribution is also calculated at each station: it varies with station between 20% and 50% in 2005 and between 5% and 25% in 2003 and 2004.  相似文献

Atmospheric aerosol particulate matter was directly collected in the free troposphere over the Japan Sea coast between 1992 and 1994 using an aircraft-borne nine-stage cascade impactor (particle size range: 0.1–8 μm). The water-soluble components in the aerosol particulate matter were analyzed by ion chromatography. Particulate sulfate and ammonium were detected in most of the samples and their size distributions showed noticeable peaks below the 1 μm particle size range. Water-soluble calcium (Ca2+) was detected in half of the samples; the size distribution showed that the maximum particle size was larger than 1 μm. Highly concentrated Ca2+ in larger particles was possibly due to transport of Kosa aerosols from the Asian continent in the free troposphere. The concentration of fine particulate sulfate and ammonium tended to increase whenever Ca2+ was detected, which suggests possible mixing of Kosa aerosols and non-Kosa aerosols during long-range transport of air masses containing Kosa particles.  相似文献

Long-term surface observations indicate that soil dust represents over 30% of the annual fine (particle diameter less than 2.5 μm) particulate mass in many areas of the western US; in spring and summer, it represents an even larger fraction. There are numerous dust-producing playas in the western US, but surface dust aerosol concentrations in this region are also influenced by dust of Asian origin. This study examines the seasonality of surface soil dust concentrations at 15 western US sites using observations from the Interagency Monitoring of PROtected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) network from 2001 to 2004. Average soil concentrations in particulate matter less than 10 μm in diameter (PM10) were lowest in winter and peaked during the summer months at these sites; however, episodic higher-concentration events (>10 μg m−3) occurred in the spring, the time of maximum Asian dust transport to the western US. Simulated surface dust concentrations from the Navy Aerosol Analysis and Prediction System (NAAPS) suggested that long-range transport from Asia dominates surface dust concentrations in the western US in the spring, and that, although some long-range transport does occur throughout the year (1–2 μg m−3), locally generated dust plays a larger role in the region in summer and fall. However, NAAPS simulated some anomalously high concentrations (>50 μg m−3) of local dust in the fall and winter months over portions of the western US. Differences between modeled and observed dust concentrations were attributed to overestimation of total observed soil dust concentrations by the assumptions used to convert IMPROVE measurements into PM10 soil concentrations, lack of inhibition of model dust production in snow-covered regions, and lack of seasonal agricultural sources in the model.  相似文献

This paper uses a simple model of atmospheric transport and an emissions inventory prepared by TNO to estimate the contribution of primary particulate material to PM10 and PM2.5 concentration across Europe. The resulting population exposure is compared with that of secondary particulates, and it is noted that both primary and secondary contributions will be significantly reduced with the implementation of new protocols under the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP). Since concentrations of primary PM10 can become elevated in episodic situations, when long-range transport of particulate could, on its own, exceed 24 h average targets of 50 μg m−3 over large areas of Europe, such reduction is important for achievement of current air quality standards to control exposure to atmospheric particulate PM10.  相似文献

This study conducted roadside particulate sampling to measure the total suspended particulate (TSP), PM10 (particles <10 μm in aerodynamic diameter) and PM2.5 (particles <2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter) mass concentration in 11 urbanized and densely populated districts in Hong Kong. One hundred and thirty-three samples were obtained to measure the mass concentrations of TSP, PM10 and PM2.5. According to these results, the TSP, PM10 and PM2.5 mass concentrations varied from 94.85 to 301.63 μg m−3, 67.67 to 142.68 μg m−3 and 50.01 to 125.12 μg m−3, respectively. The PM2.5/PM10 ratio of all samples was 0.82 which ranged from 0.62 to 0.95. The PM levels and PM ratios in metropolitan Hong Kong significantly fluctuated from site-to-site and over time. The PM2.5 mass concentration in different districts corresponding to urban industrial, new town, urban residential and urban commercial were 77.64, 87.50, 106.96 and 88.54 μg m−3, respectively. The PM2.5 level is high in Hong Kong, and for individual sampling, more than 60% daily measurements exceeded the NAAQS. The mass fraction of PM2.5 in PM10 and TSP is relatively high when compared with overseas studies.  相似文献

Recent research interest has been focused on road dust resuspension as one of the major sources of atmospheric particulate matter in an urban environment. Given the dearth of studies on the variability of the PM10 fraction of road deposited sediments, our understanding of the main factors controlling this pollutant is incomplete. In the present study a new sampling methodology was devised and applied to collect PM10 deposited mass from 1 m2 of road pavement. PM10 road dust fraction was sampled directly from active traffic lanes at 23 sampling sites during a campaign in Barcelona (Spain) in June 2007. The aim of the study was to gain more insight into the variability of mass and chemistry of road dust in different urban environments, such as the city centre, ring roads, and locations nearby demolition/construction sites. The city centre showed values of PM10 road dust within a range of 3–23 mg m?2, whereas levels reached 24–80 mg m?2 in locations affected by transport of uncovered heavy trucks. The largest dust loads were measured in the proximity of demolition/construction sites and the harbor entry with values up to 328 mg m?2.The city centre road dust profiles (%) were enriched in OC, EC, Fe, S, Cu, Zn, Mn, Cr, Sb, Sn, Mo, Zr, Hf, Ge, Ba, Pb, Bi, SO42?, NO3?, Cl? and NH4+, but several crustal components such as Ca, Ti, Na, and Mg were also considerably concentrated. Locations affected by construction and demolition activities had high levels of crustal components such as Ca, Li, Sc, Sr, Rb and also As whereas ring roads, characterized by a higher load of uncovered heavy trucks showed an intermediate composition.Levels of PM10 components per area were also evaluated to quantify the resuspendable amount of each element from 1 m2. In the inner city environment mean values of 1363 μg Ca m?2, 816 μg OC m?2, 239 μg EC m?2, 13 μg Cu m?2, 12 μg Zn m?2, 1.9 μg Sb m?2 and 2.0 μg Pb m?2, in PM10 in all cases, were registered. Moreover the deposited PM load at demolition/construction sites acts as a reservoir or trap for traffic-related particles, which gives rise to large amounts of hazardous pollutants, available for resuspension.  相似文献

This study examined commuter’s exposure to respirable suspended particulate matters while commuting in public transportation modes. The survey was conducted between October 1999 and January 2000 in Hong Kong. A total of eight public transportation modes, that are bus, tram, public light bus, taxi, ferry, Kowloon–Canton Railway, Mass Transit Railway and Light Rail Transit, were selected in the study. They were grouped into four categories: (T1) railway transport; (T2) non-air-conditioned roadway transport; (T3) air-conditioned roadway transport and (T4) marine transport. Both PM10 and PM2.5 levels were investigated. The results indicate that the particulate level is greatly affected by the mode of transport as well as the ventilation system of the transport. The overall average PM10 concentration level in T2 (147 μg m−3) is the highest and is followed by T4 (81 μg m−3) and T3 (65 μg m−3). The PM10 level in T1 (50 μg m−3) is the lowest. Notably, the commuter exposure in tram (175 μg m−3) is the highest among all the monitored commuting modes. Commuting modes such as railway and air-conditioned vehicle are recommended as a substitute for non-air-conditioned vehicle. The PM2.5 to PM10 ratio in transports ranged from 63% to 78%. Higher PM2.5 to PM10 ratio is found in vehicles with air-conditioning system. For the double deck vehicle, higher PM10 level has resulted in the lower deck. The average upper-deck to lower-deck PM10 ratio is 0.836, 0.751 and 0.738 in air-conditioned bus, non-air-conditioned bus and non-air-conditioned tram, respectively. Typical concentration profiles in different transports are also presented.  相似文献

In August 2003 during the anticipated month of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games, we simultaneously collected PM10 and PM2.5 samples at 8, 100, 200 and 325 m heights up a meteorological tower and in an urban and a suburban site in Beijing. The samples were analysed for organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) contents. Particulate matter (PM) and carbonaceous species pollution in the Beijing region were serious and widespread with 86% of PM2.5 samples exceeding the daily National Ambient Air Quality Standard of the USA (65 μg m−3) and the overall daily average PM10 concentrations of the three surface sites exceeding the Class II National Air Quality Standard of China (150 μg m−3). The maximum daily PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations reached 178.7 and 368.1 μg m−3, respectively, while those of OC and EC reached 22.2 and 9.1 μg m−3 in PM2.5 and 30.0 and 13.0 μg m−3 in PM10, respectively. PM, especially PM2.5, OC and EC showed complex vertical distributions and distinct layered structures up the meteorological tower with elevated levels extending to the 100, 200 and 300 m heights. Meteorological evidence suggested that there exist fine atmospheric layers over urban Beijing. These layers were featured by strong temperature inversions close to the surface (<50 m) and more stable conditions aloft. They enhanced the accumulation of pollutants and probably caused the complex vertical distributions of PM and carbonaceous species over urban Beijing. The built-up of PM was accompanied by transport of industrial emissions from the southwest direction of the city. Emissions from road traffic and construction activities as well as secondary organic carbon (SOC) are important sources of PM. High OC/EC ratios (range of 1.8–5.1 for PM2.5 and 2.0–4.3 for PM10) were found, especially in the higher levels of the meteorological tower suggesting there were substantial productions of SOC in summer Beijing. SOC is estimated to account for at least 33.8% and 28.1% of OC in PM2.5 and PM10, respectively, with higher percentages at the higher levels of the tower.  相似文献

The analysis of PM10 and TSP levels recorded in rural areas from Southern and Eastern Spain (1996–1999) shows that most of the PM10 and TSP peak events are simultaneously recorded at monitoring stations up to 1000 km apart. The study of the atmospheric dynamics by back-trajectory analysis and simulations with the SKIRON Forecast System show that these high PM10 and TSP events occur when high-dust Saharan air masses are transported over the Iberian Peninsula. In the January–June period, this dust transport is mainly caused by cyclonic activity over the West or South of Portugal, whereas in the summer period this is induced by anticyclonic activity over the East or Southeast Iberian Peninsula. Most of the Saharan intrusions which exert a major influence on the particulate levels occur from May to September (63%) and in January and October. In rural areas in Northeast Spain, where the PM10 annual mean is around 18 μg PM10 m−3, the Saharan dust accounts for 4–7 annual daily exceedances of the forthcoming PM10-EU limit value (50 μg PM10 m−3 daily mean). Higher PM10 background levels are recorded in Southern Spain (30 μg PM10 m−3 as annual mean for rural areas) and very similar values are recorded in industrial and urban areas. In rural areas in Southern Spain, the Saharan dust events accounts for 10–23 annual daily exceedances of the PM10 limit value, a high number when compared with the forthcoming EU standard, which states that the limit value cannot be exceeded more than 7 days per year. The proportion of Sahara-induced exceedances with respect to the total annual exceedances is discussed for rural, urban and industrial sites in Southern Spain.  相似文献

In order to increase knowledge of aerosol dry deposition for the regional assessment of acid deposition and transboundary air pollution in East Asia, an experimental study on PM2.5 sulfate deposition was implemented in the early summer of 2009. The experimental field was located in a deciduous forest at the foot of Mt. Asama, central Japan. Aerosol fluxes were obtained using the aerodynamic gradient method. Three aerosol samplers were placed on an experimental tower at 21, 24 and 27 m above the ground surface, and collected PM2.5 on filters for chemical analysis. Vertical concentration differences between 21 m and 27 m of PM2.5 sulfate were detected significantly when the concentration exceeded 1 μg m?3. Mean deposition velocity was estimated to be 0.9 ± 1.0 cm s?1 in the daytime and 0.3 ± 0.3 cm s?1 in the nighttime. In the case that a height-dependent correction in the roughness sub-layer was taken into account, the deposition velocities increased more, especially in daytime. Higher deposition velocities in the daytime were associated with larger friction velocities and unstable conditions. The deposition velocities observed in this study were in agreement with other experimental results found in the literature. On the other hand, they were higher than those calculated by theoretical models. Two empirical parameterizations (Wesely, M.L., Cook, D.R., Hart, R.L., 1985. Measurement and parameterization of particulate sulfur dry deposition over grass. Journal of Geophysical Research 90, 2131–2143; Ruijgrok, W., Tieben, H., Eisinga, P., 1997. The dry deposition of particles to a forest canopy: a comparison of model and experimental results. Atmospheric Environment 31, 399–415) were validated by the observations. The general trend of higher daytime and lower nighttime deposition velocities was similar among the observation and the two parameterizations. The large variability found in the measurement was not reproduced by the parameterizations, because it is attributable to random error from the differences between the samplers. The observations were in accordance with the parameterization of Ruijgrok et al. (1997) for a forest, although much larger than that of Wesely et al. (1985) for grasslands. This indicates the large difference in aerosol deposition velocities between forests and grasslands.  相似文献

An 80,000-km durability test was performed on two engines using diesel and biodiesel (methyl ester of waste cooking oil) as fuel in order to examine emissions resulting from the use of biodiesel. The test biodiesel (B20) was blended with 80% diesel and 20% methyl ester derived from waste cooking oil. Emissions of regulated air pollutants, including CO, HC, NOx, particulate matter (PM) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured at 20,000-km intervals. The identical-model engines were installed on a standard dynamometer equipped with a dilution tunnel used to measure the pollutants. To simulate real-world driving conditions, emission measurements were made in accordance with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) FTP transient cycle guidelines. At 0 km of the durability test, HC, CO and PM emission levels were lower for the B20 engine than those for diesel. After running for 20,000 km and longer, they were higher. However, the deterioration coefficients for these regulated air pollutants were not statistically higher than 1.0, implying that the emission factors do not increase significantly after 80,000 km of driving. Total (gaseous+particulate phase) PAH emission levels for both B20 and diesel decreased as the driving mileage accumulated. However, for the engine using B20 fuel, particulate PAH emissions increased as engine mileage increased. The average total PAH emission factors were 1097 and 1437 μg bhp h−1 for B20 and diesel, respectively. For B20, the benzo[a]pyrene equivalence emission factors were 0.77, 0.24, 0.20, 7.48, 5.43 and 14.1 μg bhp h−1 for 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-ringed and total PAHs. Results show that B20 use can reduce both PAH emission and its corresponding carcinogenic potency.  相似文献

A study of concentrations of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and suspended particulate matter (SPM) has been performed in Delhi. The monthly and seasonal variations of concentrations and winds are analyzed. The monthly mean SO2 concentrations were in the range of 16.15–34.44 μg m−3 and showed regular seasonal variations with the highest concentrations in winter and lowest in monsoon season. On the other hand, the monthly mean SPM concentrations reached the highest (465.68 μg m−3) in November and the lowest (150.07 μg m−3) in August. It was observed that high SO2 concentrations were generally associated with the wind blowing from WNW–NW directions, and the high SPM concentrations were usually related to the wind blowing from W–NW directions.  相似文献

During the course of one year (March 2004–March 2005), PM2.5 particulate nitrate concentrations were semi-continuously measured every 10 min at a Madrid suburban site using the Rupprecht and Patashnick Series 8400N Ambient Particulate Nitrate Monitor (8400N). Gaseous pollutants (NO, NO2, O3, HCHO, HNO2) were simultaneously measured with a DOAS spectrometer (OPSIS AR-500) and complementary meteorological information was obtained by a permanent tower. The particulate nitrate concentrations ranged from the instrumental detection limit of around 0.2 μg m−3, up to a maximum of about 25 μg m−3. The minimum monthly average was reached during August (0.32 μg m−3) and the maximum during November (3.0 μg m−3). Due to the semi-volatile nature of ammonium nitrate, peaks were hardly present during summer air pollution episodes. A typical pattern during days with low dispersive conditions was characterized by a steep rise of particulate nitrate in the morning, reaching maximum values between 9 and 14 UTC, followed by a decrease during the evening. On some occasions a light increase was observed at nighttime. During spring episodes, brief diurnal nitrate peaks were recorded, while during the autumn and winter episodes, later and broader nitrate peaks were registered. Analysis of particulate nitrate and related gaseous species indicated the photo-chemical origin of the morning maxima, delayed with respect to NO and closely associated with secondary NO2 maximum values. The reverse evolution of nitrate and nitrous acid was observed after sunrise, suggesting a major contribution from HNO2 photolysis to OH formation at this time of the day, which would rapidly produce nitrate in both gaseous and particulate phase. Some nocturnal nitrate maxima appeared under high humidity conditions, and a discussion about their origin involving different possible mechanisms is presented, i.e. the possibility that these nocturnal maximum values could be related to the heterogeneous formation of nitrous and nitric acid by the hydrolysis of NO2 on wet aerosols.  相似文献

The aerosol scattering properties were investigated at two continental sites in northern China in 2004. Aerosol light scattering coefficient (σsp) at 525 nm, PM10, and aerosol mass scattering efficiencies (α) at Dunhuang had a mean value of 165.1±148.8 M m−1, 157.6±270.0 μg m−3, and 2.30±3.41 m2 g−1, respectively, while these values at Dongsheng were, respectively, 180.2±151.9 M m−1, 119.0±112.9 μg m−3, and 1.87±1.41 m2 g−1. There existed a seasonal variability of aerosol scattering properties. In spring, at Dunhuang PM10, σsp, and α were 184.1±211.548 μg m−3, 126.3±89.6 M m−1, and 1.05±0.97 m2 g−1, respectively, and these values at Dongsheng were 146.4±142.1 μg m−3, 183.4±81.7 M m−1, and 1.98±1.52 m2 g−1, respectively. However, in winter at Dunhuang PM10, σsp, and α were 158.1±261.4 μg m−3, 303.3±165.2 M m−1, and 3.17±1.93 m2 g−1, respectively, and these values at Dongsheng were 155.7±170.1 μg m−3, 304.4±158.1 M m−1, and 2.90±1.72 m2 g−1, respectively. σsp and α in winter were higher than that in spring at both the sites, which coincides with the characteristics of dust aerosol and pollution aerosol. Overall, the dominant aerosol types in spring and winter at both sites in northern China are dust aerosol and pollution aerosol, respectively.  相似文献
