The working group on “boindication/assessment of effects” is made up of specialists active in the fields of bioindication and emission ecology for the German Federal administrative offices concerned with the protection of the environment and for the Geman Environmental Protection Agency. In April 1996, this working group adopted the recommendation for a “countrywide survey on the effects of emissions using bioindicatiors”. The goal of this national survey is to determine the geographic distribution and the development over time of such emissions, as well as to document the effects of background emissions. In order to achieve these goals, the development of national measuring networks and permanent observation stations is mandatory. A minimal demand of investigations and of investigative procedures is required in order to compare the results of the individual Federal States and to consequently combine these findings as an overall picture for the entire Federal Republic of Germany. Mosses and lichens are recommended for passive biological monitoring, while standardized grass cultures, kale, stinging nettle and tobacco are suggested for active biomonitoring. In addition, detailed methodical recommendations concerning the use of standardized grass cultures and kale are discussed.  相似文献

The organic carbon distribution among holorganic, topsoil, and subsoil horizons was determined for a series of 103 forest soils. The results show that only 25% and 36% of total organic carbon are stored within holorganic layers and topsoil, respectively. Subsoil was found to be the most significant compartment representing 39% of the carbon pool. This kind of distribution emphasizes the great importance of future research on structure and stability of subsoil organic carbon.  相似文献

In connection with law-imposed waste disposal regulations concerning the modernisation of the incineration ?Munich-North“, local authorities and residents raised objections. Based on an immission calculation using a numerical model concerning the impact of PCDD/PCDF on the soil (study I), conclusions were drawn that the former immissions were so high that further impact on the soil by a new combustion plant was no longer tolerable. The results of study I were controlled using a different numerical model calculation (study II). The simulation results varied vastly because of the differences in preliminary input parameters. In order to verify the simulations, soil samples were taken and the content of PCDD/PCDF was determined. Predicted soil-contents of study II were in the same range as the analyzed samples, whereas the values of study I were higher. With one exception, the soil contents were less than 5 ng TEQ-BGA kg?1 mT, a value below the BGA limits. Calculations by numerical modelling, compared to the measurement of PCDD/PCDF soil contents, are therefore no reliable basis for predicting PCDD/PCDF concentrations in soils which has been induced by incineration emission.  相似文献

The hydrochemistry of forest springs was investigated in the Fichtelgebirge, a region in NE Bavaria (F.R.G.) which is strongly affected by forest decline. Data were collected from 165 springs (Tables 1–5). Water chemistry is characterized by high concentrations of nitrate, sulfate and aluminium and is influenced by forest decline, liming and soil type of the catchment. Model calculations show maximal N-outputs of 40 kg nitrate-N/ha*a indicating N-saturation in some forest ecosystems of the Fichtelgebirge. N-saturated ecosystems without buffercapacity for Nitrogen will release all further N-inputs as NO3 to the aquatic ecosystem.  相似文献

The infra-red (IR) and the gas Chromatographic (GC) methods for the determination of mineral oil hydrocarbons in soils were examined in collaborative trials with regard to their accuracy and reproducibility. Natural, homogenized soils and soils spiked with mineral oil were used as standards. The soil matrix was composed relatively simply. The repeatability and reproducibility values obtained were about 5 % und 23 %, respectively. In contrast, the GC method revealed a considerably higher error range, especially by using the split/splitless technique. The degradation of mineral oil hydrocarbons in soils under different temperatures was investigated by IR throughout one year. The degradation rate at room temperature was about 25 %; at lower temperatures no degradation was detected. Thus, the spiked soils may be used as calibration standards for the mineral oil analysis.  相似文献

The results of lysimeter experiments conducted since 1991 dealing with the behavior of PAH in soil/plant systems demonstrate that the PAH pollution to cultivated plants may be caused by both atmospheric deposition and by the soil-to-plant transfer observed in contaminated sites. In the latter, a “direct contamination” of plant surfaces with PAH-loaded soil particles and the subsequent PAH turnover by desorption/adsorption processes is seen to dominate—at least for the most relevant PAHs toxic to humans, benzo(a)pyrene and dibenz(a,h)anthracene. Leafy vegetables growing close to the soil surface are therefore endangered most by a PAH contamination of the soil. The soil-to-plant transfer via “direct contamination” can be reduced to a high degree by covering the contaminated soil with different mulch materials. Systematic PAH transfer via root uptake could not generally be observed. From the reported results, a trigger value in the soil of 1 mg·kg?1 for benzo(a)pyrene is proposed to make a judgement on PAH contaminated soils with regard to the soil-to-plant transfer pathways. Soils with excessive concentrations of benzo(a)pyrene demand special attention when considering the recommendations for the growth and consumption of cultivated vegetables. The “soil”as well as the “deposition pathways” must be integrated into a complete risk assessment of locations with food plant production, especially in urban areas.  相似文献

The assessment of adverse effects in terrestrial ecosystems is of central importance to any Environmental Risk Assessment of Industrial Chemicals at an EU level. A conceptual proposal in this regard is clearly outlined in the ‘Technical Guidance Document’ which is currently undergoing revision; nonetheless, from an industrial point of view, there are still some unresolved questions: The design of ecotoxicological tests should not focus exclusively on reproducibility under defined laboratory conditions; of equal if not greater importance is the ecological relevance of tests, i.e. the ability of a (chronic) test system to adequately reflect substance-related effects on wild species at the population level. In readily biodegradable substances in particular, the choice of an appropriate test substrate and an optimized feeding regime as well as the analytical confirmation of nominal test concentrations is vital. Bioaccumulation of industrial chemicals in soil-dwelling organisms usually takes place via the pore water phase. Oligochaete worms such as Eisenia and Lumbricus have proven to be promising candidates for an experimental approach. However, there is still an urgent need for the development of a balanced understanding of how to evaluate the results of those studies. Variability is inherently high in terrestrial systems, making any differentiation between natural fluctuations of parameters and substance-induced effects on the structures and functions of ecosystems a difficult task. In order to strengthen their predictive value for population or ecosystem-related effects, any experimental study has to fulfill specific quality criteria (e.g. acknowledged test procedure; Good Laboratory Practice; appropriate methodological approach (including statistics); meaningful endpoints; clear linkage of results and experimental design). Only if these criteria are met can test results be used for regulatory purposes.  相似文献

Pesticide leaching from subsoil to underground water can be effected through bypass flows and particle-bound-transport. The seepage and ground water zone have a certain barrier effect too, but the sorption and transformation of pesticides is less than in the subsoil. Dissolved and bound organic carbon content is decisive for the migration behaviour of pesticides in seepage and groundwater zone as well. Pesticides are subject to a measurable degradation in these compartments. Metabolites are usually transported faster than pesticides.  相似文献

Various analyses and evaluative procedures are used to provide evidence of success using remediation procedures. Because of the lack of standardized procedures for soil assessment, general practice has unfortunately propagated the use of DIN standards for determining the level of similar parameters in water as well as for other heterogeneous matrices (e.g. in soil). A precise auditing of quality, however, has not been possible with this method, this procedure has even put the success of such a remediation into question. This article describes the problems of determining mineral hydrocarbon concentrations on soil as well as portraying the remediation of oil damages which has occurred on a site of a former waste oil redestillation facility [1, 2]. This procedure has been proved in practice and serves as a model because an adequately defined, standardized method (DIN standard) is lacking.  相似文献

Aim and Background Precautionary regulations for the production of genetically modified crops (Gentechnik-Pflanzenerzeugungsverordnung, GenTPflEV 2008) provide isolation distances for the cultivation of genetically modified maize – Bt-maize – in the vicinity of conventional maize cultivation (150?m) as well as of organic maize cultivation (300?m). Nature reserves are not included. The aim of this study was to investigate whether maize pollen of surrounding fields were dispersed in the Flora-Fauna-Habitat (FFH) Ruhlsdorfer Bruch. In the vicinity of the nature reserve Bt-maize species MON 810 as well as conventional maize was grown. The survey should provide appropriate isolation distances for the cultivation of Bt-maize with regard to sustainable protection of non-target-organisms (NTO) in the Ruhlsdorfer Bruch. Materials and Methods The collection of maize pollen in the Ruhlsdorfer Bruch was carried out at three sampling sites in the FFH or rather in the immediate vicinity in July and August 2007 by means of twelve technical and three biological pollen samplers. The technical samplers Sigma-2/PMF enable point sampling. They are primarily influenced by wind and topography and provide information about the effective entry, the maize pollen flow and the maize pollen deposition at the location of the sampler. Honey bees roam over longer distances and are hence planar collectors. Thus, they also provide information about the plants blooming in a distinct area. Furthermore, the biological preferences during the collection are captured, whereas a technical sampler does not perform a species dependent selection. Hence, both the technical and the biological samplers complement one another in their scope of application. The pollen samples were identified microscopically, enumerated quantitatively, and the pollen-DNA was analysed by means of the PCR-method. Results All monitoring sites at the Ruhlsdorfer Bruch revealed maize pollen entries. The pollen deposition reached values of 1.75 million maize pollen/m² in the close-up range. The monitoring sites located 120?m within the protected area still featured 99,000 maize pollen/m². As shown by the statistical analysis, at a distance of 1,000?m still 28,000 maize pollen/m² must be expected. The results of the microscopic pollen analysis of the pollen pellets proved that the bees collect maize pollen at all three sites. Although maize pollen is not the main food source the high collection efficiency of the bees resulted in large amounts of introduced pollen. The biomolecular proof of pollen-DNA in the field samples was corroborated by analogue results for both the technical and biological pollen sampling by two independent laboratories. The results of these quality controlled analyses gave unambiguous evidence that under the cultivation conditions in 2007 an entry of Bt-maize pollen into the FFH Ruhlsdorfer Bruch was existent. Discussion The maize pollen deposition at the Ruhlsdorfer Bruch corresponds with additional supra-regional investigations which were conducted over several years with the same method. However, the pollen entries into the Ruhlsdorfer Bruch are above-average. Possible reasons are the size of the maize fields (>?10?ha), the geographical collocation between maize fields and protected area (lee location, through-shaped, thermal currents) as well as weather conditions and maize bloom during the sampling period July and August 2007. A distance of 1,000?m or more is necessary to avoid maize pollen deposition of more than 100,000/m² with a probability of 90?%. Conclusions The results of this investigation prove an entry of Bt-maize pollen into the FFH under the cultivation and weather conditions in summer 2007. According to the results of this and related studies and considering precautionary principle and the effect terms defined in the Federal Immission Protection Law, it becomes clear that reasonable isolation distances between Bt-maize fields and protected areas have to be introduced in order to minimise the entry of GM-maize pollen and to prevent adverse effects on protected NTOs. Recommendations Due to the fact that no toxicological investigations are available for the butterflies occurring in the FFH, highest protection standards should be implemented to avoid Bt-maize pollen entries into the Ruhlsdorfer Bruch. That implies that highest possible isolation distances for Bt-maize cultivation have to be considered, but at least a distance of 1,000?m is recommended. Following this a maize pollen deposition of more than 100,000 maize pollen/m² should be pevented with a certainty of 90?% as well as an exceeding exposure of foraging insects. Outlook By means of the pollen monitoring it becomes possible to survey empirically defined limits of pollen exposure. This should be performed in the nature reserve area at sites of expected maximum exposure, e.?g. at the boundaries of the FFH towards the maize fields and at exposed sites.  相似文献

The shore crab Carcinus maenas was reared in the laboratory from egg deposition to sexual maturity. Special enclosures were developed for cultivation of the larvae. Food and temperature proved to be the most important exogenous factors for rearing success. Fresh Artemia salina nauplii were the only food suitable for all larval stages. The following rearing temperatures proved most successful during larval development: (1) embryonic development, 10°C; (2) zoea stages, 15°C; (3) megalopa stage, 17.5°C. The larvae hatch preferably in darkness when reared under short-day conditions.  相似文献

The brain of a cod, Gadus morhua L., caught with damaged lateral lines, has been investigated histologically. Injured ganglion cells in the tuberculum acusticum and atrophic Mauthner-cells are demonstrated by staining with gallocyanin, lateral nerve fibres in the mesencephalon by employing Gleessilver impregnation. Terminals of degenerating lateral nerve fibres could be identified as “boutons terminaux”. The course of the afferent fibres from the lateral line through the metencephalon into the mesencephalon is as follows: Fibres of the lateral-line nerve, directly injured by an inflammation, run from the damaged lateral line to their ganglion cells in the tuberculum acusticum in the medulla; the ganglion cells are degenerated to the limits of visibility; from these cells fibres run to the Mauthner-cells, which became atrophic due to lack of afferent impulses. Other fibres run from the tuberculum acusticum into two regions of the subtectum in the mesencephalon, where they terminate in axo-somatic synapses.  相似文献
