In order to simulate granular materials structure in a rotary kiln under the steady-state regime, a mathematical model has been developed by Saeman (1951). This model enables the calculation of the bed profiles, the axial velocity and solids flow rate along the kiln. This model can be coupled with a thermochemical model, in the case of a reacting moving bed. This dynamic model was used to calculate the bed profile for an industrial size kiln and the model projections were validated by measurements in a 4 m diameter by 16 m long industrial rotary kiln. The effect of rotation speed under solids bed profile and the effect of the feed rate under filling degree were established. On the basis of the calculations and the experimental results a phenomenological relation for the residence time estimation was proposed for the rotary kiln. 相似文献

Composts fractions were extracted by water from composts at the beginning and at the end of the composting process. These water extracts were characterized by elementary analysis and spectroscopies, and then, tested for their capacity to photosensitize the degradation of three aromatic compounds: Irgarol, fenuron, and 2,4,6-trimethylphenol. In solar light, the water extracts (25 mg/l) were found to completely degrade 2,4,6-trimethylphenol after 24 h, and afford a transformation of fenuron and Irgarol of 25% and 18%, respectively. An erratum to this article can be found at 相似文献

Arctic communities often face drinking water supply challenges that are unique to their location. Consequently, conventional drinking water regulatory strategies often do not meet the needs of these communities. A literature review of Arctic jurisdictions was conducted to evaluate the current water management approaches and how these techniques could be applied to the territory of Nunavut in Canada. The countries included are all members of the Arctic Council and other Canadian jurisdictions considered important to the understanding of water management for Northern Canadian communities. The communities in Nunavut face many challenges in delivering safe water to customers due to remoteness, small community size and therefore staffing constraints, lack of guidelines and monitoring procedures specific to Nunavut, and water treatment and distribution systems that are vastly different than those used in southern communities. Water safety plans were explored as an alternative to water quality regulations as recent case studies have demonstrated the utility of this risk management tool, especially in the context of small communities. Iceland and Alberta both currently have regulated water safety plans (WSPs) and were examined to understand shortcomings and benefits if WSPs were to be applied as a possible strategy in Nunavut. Finally, this study discusses specific considerations that are necessary should a WSP approach be applied in Nunavut. 相似文献

We present numerical simulations of drainage induced by air injection in a vertical water-saturated Hele-Shaw cell filled with glass microbeads. We use the macroscale Subsurface Transport Over Multiple Phases (STOMP) simulator developed by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Hydrology Group. To trigger fingering, we use random permeability fields consistent to capillary entry pressure fields. We compare the numerical results to our own experimental results shown in a previous study. We analyze the effects of the microheterogeneity degree as well as the macroscopic parameters on the gas saturation results. The main objective of the work is to investigate how microscopic effects could be accounted for by macroscopic variables during drainage. 相似文献
