There is a general lack of information on the effects of full-bore obstacles on combustion in the literature, these obstacles are prevalent in many applications and knowledge of their effects on phenomena including burning rate, flame acceleration and DDT is important for the correct placing of explosion safety devices such as flame arresters and venting devices. In this work methane, propane, ethylene and hydrogen–air explosions were investigated in an 18 m long DN150 closed pipe with a 90 degree bend and various baffle obstacles placed at a short distance from the ignition source. After carrying out multiple experiments with the same configuration it was found that a relatively large variance existed in the measured flame speeds and overpressures, this was attributed to a stochastic element in how flames evolved and also how they caused and interacted with turbulence to produce flame acceleration. This led to several experiments being carried out for one configuration in order to obtain a meaningful average. It was shown that a 90 degree bend in a long tube had the ability to enhance flame speeds and overpressures, and shorten the run-up distance to DDT to a varying degree for a number of gases. In terms of the qualitative effects on these parameters they were comparable to baffle type obstacles with a blockage ratios of between 10 and 20%.  相似文献

The continental Buntsandstein red beds represent the parastratigraphically subdivided germanotype facies of the Lower Triassic in Middle Europe. Fluvial deposits are widespread in proximal and medial parts of the sedimentation area. Additionally, aeolian dune sands, alluvial-fan deposits, mud-flow sediments, palaeosols, lacustrine, deltaic, tidal, lagoonal, brackish, marine and evaporitic deposits are present. Numerous isolated occurrences and several concentrations of faunal and floral elements in the generally poorly fossiliferous sequence reflect a diversified and partially rich biosphere of the Buntsandstein. Evolution and zoning testify the control of tectonics on depositional history. The depositional history leads from the end of the saline Zechstein period via predominantly silty-clayey and oolitic shallow-water sediments to a mainly fluvial series which is characterized by the intercalation of aeolian dune sands in its upper part, before by another fluvial sequence in the marginal areas and precipitation of thick halite layers in the basin centre the marine terminal stage is reached which passes into the carbonate Muschelkalk succession.  相似文献

Background

Perchlorate contamination of water and food poses potential health risks to humans due to the possible interference of perchlorate with the iodide uptake into the thyroid gland. Perchlorate has been found in food and drinking, surface, or swimming pool waters in many countries, including the United States, Canada, France, Germany, and Switzerland, with ion chromatography (IC) being the preferred analytical method. The standardization of a robust ion chromatographic method is therefore of the high interest for public health and safety. This article summarizes the experiments and results obtained from analyzing untreated samples, considering the sample’s electrical conductance as guidance for direct sample injection as described in EPA 314.0.

Results

The suitability of ion chromatography with suppressed conductivity detection was tested for water samples in order to check the influence of matrix effects on the perchlorate signal of untreated samples. A sample injection volume of 750 μL was applied to the selected 2 mm?IC?column. The IC?determination of perchlorate at low µg/L levels is challenged by the presence of high loads of matrix ions (e.g., chloride, nitrate, carbonate, and sulfate at 100 mg/L and above). Perchlorate recovery is impaired with the increasing matrix ion concentrations, and its chromatographic peak is asymmetric particularly at low perchlorate concentrations. The identification of the individual maximum concentration of interfering anions like chloride, nitrate, and sulfate that influence perchlorate recovery helps to reduce the number of sample preparation steps or an obligatory measurement of the electrical conductivity of the sample. Within the scope of this study, samples containing less than 125 mg/L of either anion did not need sample preparation.

Conclusion

The identification of the maximum concentration of interfering anions like chloride, nitrate, and sulfate influencing perchlorate recovery provides a simplified alternative to the EPA 314.0 method. This approach reduces unnecessary sample preparation steps while allowing a reliable prognosis of possible interferences and maintaining result quality. This study was performed to support the development of a respective international standard, which is being established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The results of the study are also intended to be used as guidance for interested laboratories to optimize the analytical workflow for trace perchlorate determination.

In forest management and ecological research, consideration of the impacts and risks of climate change or management optimisation is complex. Computer models have long been applied as tools for these tasks. Process-based forest growth models claim to overcome the limitations of empirical statistical models, but the capacity of different process-based models and modelling approaches have rarely been compared directly. This study evaluates stepwise multiple regression models in comparison to four process-based modelling approaches (3-PG, 3-PG+, CABALA and Forest-DNDC) for greenfield predictions of Eucalyptus globulus plantation growth from 2 to 8 years after planting throughout southern Australia.  相似文献

Although numerous bodies were deposited in Western European bogs in the past centuries, few were found and underwent archeological analysis. No studies comparing skeletal structure and mineralization of bog bodies from different ages have been performed to this day. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze and compare skeletal features and specifics of the human remains of three bog bodies from the Iron and Middle Ages found in Northern European peat bogs. Demineralization due to the acidic environment in peat bogs was comparably pronounced in all three bodies. Still, the macroscopic state of skeletal preservation was excellent. In addition to contact radiography, we used peripheral quantitative computed tomography to measure cortical bone mineral density. The conservation of skeletal three-dimensional microstructural elements was assessed by high-resolution microcomputed tomography analysis. These techniques revealed severe differences in bone mineral density and enabled us to determine handedness in all three bodies. Additionally, unique skeletal features like intravital bone lesions, immobilization osteoporosis, and Harris lines were found. A deformity of the left femoral head was observed which had the typical appearance of an advanced stage of Legg–Calve–Perthes disease. This study gives detailed insight into the skeletal microstructure and microarchitecture of 800- to 2,700-year-old bog bodies. Skeletal analysis enables us to draw conclusions not only concerning changes in the acidic environment of the bog, but also serves as a diagnostic tool to unravel life circumstances and diseases suffered by humans in the Iron and Middle Ages.  相似文献

Poor air quality is still a threat for human health in many parts of the world. In order to assess measures for emission reductions and improved air quality, three-dimensional atmospheric chemistry transport modeling systems are used in numerous research institutions and public authorities. These models need accurate emission data in appropriate spatial and temporal resolution as input. This paper reviews the most widely used emission inventories on global and regional scales and looks into the methods used to make the inventory data model ready. Shortcomings of using standard temporal profiles for each emission sector are discussed, and new methods to improve the spatiotemporal distribution of the emissions are presented. These methods are often neither top-down nor bottom-up approaches but can be seen as hybrid methods that use detailed information about the emission process to derive spatially varying temporal emission profiles. These profiles are subsequently used to distribute bulk emissions such as national totals on appropriate grids. The wide area of natural emissions is also summarized, and the calculation methods are described. Almost all types of natural emissions depend on meteorological information, which is why they are highly variable in time and space and frequently calculated within the chemistry transport models themselves. The paper closes with an outlook for new ways to improve model ready emission data, for example, by using external databases about road traffic flow or satellite data to determine actual land use or leaf area. In a world where emission patterns change rapidly, it seems appropriate to use new types of statistical and observational data to create detailed emission data sets and keep emission inventories up-to-date.

Implications: Emission data are probably the most important input for chemistry transport model (CTM) systems. They need to be provided in high spatial and temporal resolution and on a grid that is in agreement with the CTM grid. Simple methods to distribute the emissions in time and space need to be replaced by sophisticated emission models in order to improve the CTM results. New methods, e.g., for ammonia emissions, provide grid cell–dependent temporal profiles. In the future, large data fields from traffic observations or satellite observations could be used for more detailed emission data.  相似文献

The column-integrated optical and radiative properties of aerosols in the downwind area of East Asia were investigated based on sun/sky radiometer measurements performed from February 2004 to June 2005 at Gwangju (35.23° N, 126.84° E) and Anmyeon (36.54° N, 126.33° E), Korea. The observed aerosol data were analyzed for differences among three seasons: spring (March-May), summer (June-August), and autumn/winter (September-February). The data were also categorized into five types depending on the air mass origin in arriving in the measurement sites: (a) from a northerly direction in spring (S(N)), (b) from a westerly direction in spring (S(W)), (c) cases with a low ?ngstr?m exponent (<0.8) in spring (dust), (d) from a northerly direction in autumn/winter (AW(N)), and (e) from a westerly direction during other seasons (AW(W)). The highest ?ngstr?m exponents (α) at Gwangju and Anmyeon were 1.43?±?0.30 and 1.49?±?0.20, respectively, observed in summer. The lowest column-mean single-scattering albedo (ω) at 440 nm observed at Gwangju and Anmyeon were 0.89?±?0.02 and 0.88?±?0.02, respectively, during a period marked by the advection of dust from the Asian continent. The highest ω values at Gwangju and Anmyeon were 0.95?±?0.02 and 0.96?±?0.02, respectively, observed in summer. Variations in the aerosol radiative-forcing efficiency (β) were related to the conditions of the air mass origin. The forcing efficiency in summer was -131.7 and -125.6 W?m(-2) at the surface in Gwangju and Anmyeon, respectively. These values are lower than those under the atmospheric conditions of spring and autumn/winter. The highest forcing efficiencies in autumn/winter were -214.3 and -255.9 W?m(-2) at the surface in Gwangju and Anmyeon, respectively, when the air mass was transported from westerly directions.  相似文献

The registration of the present situation regarding environmental investigation is the basis for efficiently proceeding in the course of the implementation of environmental management systems (EMS). The basic analysis is found on the individual elements: reaction audit, management audit and compliance audit. Via an optimal performance of an environmental investigation while implementing an EMS, the basis for a maximum utilization has been created for the user as well for agriculture. Utilization for the company is provided by documentation of the organizational structure showing a transparency of procedures with regard to efficiency. Furthermore, an EMS is useful in the course of external tasks, e.g. public approach, business partners, position to authorities, deregulation or minimization of liability.  相似文献
