Aquatic arsenic cycles mainly depend on microbial activities that change the arsenic chemical forms and influence human health and organism activities. The microbial aggregates degrading organic matter are significantly related to the turnover between inorganic arsenic and organoarsenic compounds. We investigated the effects of microbial aggregates on organoarsenic mineralization in Lake Kahokugata using lake water samples spiked with dimethylarsinic acid (DMA). The lake water samples converted 1 μmol L−1 of DMA to inorganic arsenic for 28 d only under anaerobic and dark conditions in the presence of microbial activities. During the DMA mineralization process, organic aggregates >5.0 μm with bacterial colonization increased the densities. When the organic aggregates >5.0 μm were eliminated from the lake water samples using filters, the degradation activities were reduced. DMA in the lake water would be mineralized by the microbial aggregates under anaerobic and dark conditions. Moreover, DMA amendment enhanced the degradation activities in the lake water samples, which mineralized 50 μmol L−1 of DMA. The DMA-amended aggregates >5.0 μm completely degraded 1 μmol L−1 of DMA with a shorter incubation time of 7 d. The supplement of KNO3 and NaHCO3 to lake water samples also shortened the DMA-degradation period. Presumably, the bacterial aggregates involved in the chemical heterotrophic process would contribute to the DMA-biodegradation process in Lake Kahokugata, which is induced by the DMA amendment.  相似文献

Cytotoxicity of a diverse set of 227 ionic liquids (taken from UFT/Merck Ionic Liquids Biological Effects Database) containing 94 imidazolium, 53 pyridinium, 23 pyrrolidinium, 22 ammonium, 15 piperidinium, 10 morpholinium, 5 phosphanium, and 5 quinolinium cations in combination with 25 different types of anions to Leukemia Rat Cell Line (IPC-81) was estimated from their structural parameters using quantitative structure - toxicity relationship “QSTR” methodology. Linear and nonlinear models were developed using genetic algorithm (GA), multiple linear regressions (MLR) and multilayer perceptron neural network (MLP NN) approaches. Robustness and reliability of the constructed models were evaluated through internal and external validation methods. Furthermore, chemical applicability domain was determined via leverage approach. In this work, it was revealed that the cationic moieties make the major contribution to cytotoxicity and the anionic parts play a secondary role in cytotoxicity of the ionic liquids studied here. Structural information represented in this work, can be used for a rational design of safer ILs.  相似文献

Organisms are exposed to natural radiations from cosmic or terrestrial origins. Furthermore the combined action of radiation with various chemicals is an inevitable feature of modern life. Radiation is known to cause cell death, mainly due to its ability to produce reactive oxygen species in cells. N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) is a well-known sulfhydryl-containing antioxidant whose role in radioprotection has been reported. Synergistic effects of radiation and mercury chloride on human cells was previously reported by the authors. Based on the previous report, this study was designed to assess the synergistic effects of radiation and mercury chloride on fish hepatoma cells, as well as to investigate the protective effects of NAC on the cells. The cytotoxicity of radiation was enhanced in the presence of mercury chloride. NAC in lower concentrations prevented cells from death after irradiation with lower doses (<300 Gy) while it did not prevent cells from radiation-induced death after irradiation with higher doses (300, 500 Gy). The intracellular glutathione (GSH) levels significantly decreased after irradiation while the combined treatment of NAC and radiation alleviated the decrease in the GSH levels. The investigations give a clue for the action mechanism of synergistic or protective effects of NAC on the cells. Due to their high resistance to ionizing radiation, the PLHC-1 cells can be effectively used as a screening tool for assessing the combined effects of radiation with toxic chemicals.  相似文献

Trickle-bed air biofilters (TBABs) are suitable for treatment of hydrophilic volatile organic compounds, but they pose a challenge for hydrophobic compounds. Three laboratory-scale TBABs were used for the treatment of an airstream contaminated with different ratios of n-hexane and benzene mixtures. The ratios studied were 1:1, 2:1, and 1:3 n-hexane:benzene by volume. Each TBAB was operated at a pH of 4 and a temperature of 20 degrees C. The use of acidic-buffered nutrient solution was targeted for changing the microorganism consortium to fungi as the main biodegradation element. The experimental plan was designed to investigate the long-term performance of the TBABs with an emphasis on different mixture loading rates, removal efficiency with TBAB depth, volatile suspended solids, and carbon mass balance closure. n-Hexane loading rate was kept constant in the TBABs for comparison reasons and ranged from 4 to 22 g/(m3 x hr). Corresponding benzene loadings ranged from 4 to 43 g/(m3 x hr). Generally, benzene behavior in the TBAB was superior to that of n-hexane because of its higher solubility. n-Hexane showed improved performance in the 2:1 mixing ratio as compared with the other two ratios.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate and determine fluoride concentrations in drinking water supplies in rural areas of Maku and Poldasht in West Azerbaijan Province, the northwest of Iran. Fluorosis risk assessment and characterization was also investigated. Fluoride concentrations mapping was accomplished by using the GIS system. Totally, 356 water samples, including one sample in each season, were collected from 89 water supplies providing water for 95 and 61 rural areas of Maku and Poldasht, respectively. According to the results, in Maku and Poldasht, 25 and 30 rural areas had contaminated water sources, respectively. Average annual fluoride concentrations ranged from 3.04 to 7.31 mg/l in the contaminated villages of Maku, which is about 2–4.8 times higher than the maximum standard level of the Iranian drinking water standard, and 4.52–8.21 mg/l in the contaminated areas of Poldasht, which is about 3–5.47 times higher than the maximum standard level. The maximum fluoride level was determined 11.12 mg/l and 10.98 mg/l in one of villages of Maku and Poldasht Counties in summer, respectively. Neither in Maku nor in Poldasht, water resources showed dental cavity risk, while dental fluorosis risk and skeletal fluorosis risk were very significant in some villages of both cities. Children were at most risk of fluorosis. New alternative water supplies for the contaminated villages if possible, consumption of bottled water and application of reverse osmosis are recommended as remedial actions in the contaminated areas.

博斯腾湖流域地下水重金属污染的人体健康风险评估   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
在新疆博斯腾湖流域绿洲灌区采集67个浅层地下水样品,测定其中Cu、Mn、Cd、Cr、Ni和Zn等6种重金属元素的含量,采用Nemerow综合污染指数对地下水中重金属污染程度进行评价,借助US EPA健康风险评价模型对地下水中重金属污染的潜在健康风险进行评价。结果表明:(1)地下水中各元素平均含量大小顺序依次为:MnZnCuNi CrCd,各元素平均含量均未超出国家标准的限值;(2)研究区地下水中各重金属元素单项污染指数平均值从大到小依次为:Cd(2.04)、Mn(0.69)、Ni(0.45)、Cr(0.24)、Zn(0.07)、Cu(0.03)。综合污染指数的变化范围在0.23~2.22之间,平均值为0.73,呈现轻微污染;(3)健康风险评价结果表明,地下水中6种重金属对成人的潜在非致癌健康风险HI为7.83E-011,表明暴露的个体不太可能有明显的不良健康影响;对儿童的潜在非致癌健康风险HI为1.05E+011,表明研究区地下水重金属可能对当地儿童的健康产生不利影响,有进一步研究的必要性。  相似文献
