The safe application of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) requires a risk assessment prior to their proposed use. Based on methods from the chemical industry, we developed a hazard identification procedure for the risk assessment of field tests with genetically modified plants. This risk assessment method, GMHAZID, is carried out in the form of guided brainstorm sessions. GMHAZID was tested with a case study for which a risk assessment had previously been made, and the results of the assessments were compared. The results showed that some new hazards potentially leading to uncontrolled spreading, in addition to those from the previous assessment, were identified using GMHAZID. GMHAZID also recognised some hazards leading to failures in the field experiments. We suggest that GMHAZID provides systematics, reliability, and transparency to the risk assessment procedure.  相似文献

In this communication we present data on S-phenylcysteine (SPC) in human serum albumin in an Estonian cohort. A total of 112 human samples were collected from workers of a benzene processing plant in Kohtla-Järve, Estonia and another 56 samples from nearby countryside residents. Albumin was isolated using a sequential precipitation method designed for low volume plasma samples. The adducted cysteine derivatives were cleaved off from the albumin and subsequently derivatized to phenyl trifluorothioacetate (PTTA) derivatives. Derivatized adducts were subjected to GC/MS analysis utilizing negative chemical ionization and a selected ion monitoring (SIM) technique. The detection limit for the PTTA adduct was 0.2?pmol?g?1 albumin and the limit of quantification was 2?pmol?g?1 albumin. The method utilized deuterated SPC as an internal standard. The analysis revealed that adduct levels were also high in the population that was not occupationally exposed to benzene. The reason for this is unknown, but may cause problems if not of environmental origin, when one is attempting to monitor low level occupational or environmental benzene exposure.  相似文献

This study tested three contrasting theories about the sequential process of the three dimensions of burnout (i.e., exhaustion, cynicism and professional efficacy) as measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory—General Survey (MBI‐GS). The causal order of the burnout components was investigated by including job stressors as antecedents of burnout in structural equation models (LISREL). The predictive effect of exhaustion on burnout dimensions eight years later was also investigated. The longitudinal models were then tested in two occupational subgroups. The participants were 713 Finnish employees (415 white‐collar and 298 blue‐collar workers) from an international industry enterprise. The best fitting model of the associations between the three burnout dimensions was obtained by a path model where exhaustion predicted cynicism, and cynicism in turn predicted lack of professional efficacy. The symptoms of exhaustion were persistent over time. There were no differences between the two occupational groups in the process of burnout. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine the associations between demographics, work, lifestyle, housework, and the work ability of workers. METHODS: Employees between the ages of 20 and 69 (N = 651), employed at a Brazilian public institution, responded to a questionnaire on demographics, work, lifestyle characteristics, and work ability. RESULTS: Work ability decreased significantly with age among the women. The younger group had higher scores on the work ability index than the older age groups, except for mental resources. The logistic regression analysis showed that higher age, lower education, and long work history at the institution were significantly associated with reduced work ability. CONCLUSIONS: The progressive aging, the low level of education, and the long duration work in the studied institution were related to a reduction in work ability, which increases the risk of work disability or early retirement.  相似文献
