This study was conducted to develop muscle and mental activities on repetitive precision tasks. A laboratory experiment was used to address the objectives. Surface electromyography was used to measure muscle activities from eight upper limb muscles, while electroencephalography recorded mental activities from six channels. Fourteen university students participated in the study. The results show that muscle and mental activities increase for all tasks, indicating the occurrence of muscle and mental fatigue. A linear relationship between muscle activity, mental activity and time was found while subjects were performing the task. Thus, models were developed using those variables. The models were found valid after validation using other students’ and workers’ data. Findings from this study can contribute as a reference for future studies investigating muscle and mental activity and can be applied in industry as guidelines to manage muscle and mental fatigue, especially to manage job schedules and rotation.  相似文献

Background

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a global public health problem. It is estimated that there are more than 300 million HBV carriers in the world.

Aim

The study aimed to examine the sero-prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) markers among health care workers (HCWs) in Public Teaching Hospitals in Khartoum State, in the year 2004.

Methods

The study is an observational, cross sectional, facility-based study. It was conducted on stratified two-stage cluster random sample of 843 subjects. The study followed non-parametric statistical methods, using Z-test for single proportion.

Results

Among the 843 subjects tested for all HBV markers (Anti-HBc, HBsAg, HBsAb, and HBeAg), the prevalence of Anti-HBc, HBsAg, HBsAb, and HBeAg was found to be 57% (CI 95%:53-60%), 6% (CI 95%:4.0-8.0%), 37% (CI 95%:34-40%) and 9% (CI 95%:7-11%) respectively. P < 0.05.

Conclusion

Seroprevalence of all HBV markers (P < 0.05) was found to be significantly high, while the rate of immunity against HBV infection was low among health care workers In Public Teaching Hospitals in Khartoum State, Sudan.  相似文献

The impact on the environment of using paint-contaminated grit (PCG) as a partial or full replacement for sand in Portland cement mortar and asphalt concrete mixtures was investigated. The grit waste material originated from abrasive blasting of offshore steel structures. There is a major environmental concern regarding the safe disposal of the spent blasting abrasives that contain paint chips or paint particles and other debris removed from the surface of the steel structures. This work investigated the potential reuse of PCG in Portland cement concrete (PCC) and hot mix asphalt concrete. Several studies were conducted to establish the integrity of the materials containing the recycled grit. These included the chemical and physical characterization of natural sand and PCG, the assay of leaches associated with the grit material for hazardous metal contaminants, such as Cr, Cd and Pb, and the assessment of the mechanical properties of the PCG-substituted mortars by applying special tests (such as Marshall stability and determination of the flow properties) to the PCG-substituted asphalt concrete mixtures. The overall results demonstrated that the potential reuse of PCG in PCC and asphalt concrete mixtures would not pose any environmental threat and could produce several benefits, such as reduced disposal costs, protection of water sources from improper disposal practices and reduced costs in the production of natural aggregates and asphalt cement.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: The indexed sequential hydrologic modeling (ISM) methodology is utilized by the Western Area Power Administration as the basis for risk-based estimation of project-dependable hydropower capacity for several federally owned/operated projects. ISM is a technique based on synthetic generation of a series of overlapping short-term inflow sequences obtained directly from the historical record. The validity of ISM is assessed through application to the complex multireservoir hydropower system of the Colorado River basin for providing risk estimates associated with determination of reliable hydrogeneration capacity. Performance of ISM is compared with results from stochastically generated streamflow input data to the Colorado River Simulation System (CRSS). Statistical analysis and comparison of results are based on monthly power capacity, energy generation, and downstream water deliveries. Results indicate that outputs generated from ISM synthetically generated sequences display an acceptable correspondence with those obtained from stochastically generated hydrologic data for the Colorado River Basin.  相似文献

The impact of metal pollution in the Nile and Delta lakes was studied in Clarias lazera. Lake Edku is grouped as the site highest in metal concentrations. Compared to Lakes Maryût and Edku, the Nile stations displayed lower levels of metal contamination signifying their selection as reference sites. Metals were accumulated most by the liver, less by muscles and least by serum. Iron showed the highest bioconcentration factors (BCF) in liver, muscles or serum compared to other metals. Even after the refinement of the surrounding water, fish seem to uphold the metals that have been previously ingested. Mercury, in particular, seems to eventually reside in muscles rather than in liver. The positive relationship between total serum protein and metal contents may indicate the formation of specific metal-binding proteins. Meanwhile, serum hyperalbuminemia in polluted fish is probably a shock response towards the high stress index induced by metals. The hypothesis that most of serum copper is bound to ceruloplasmin is documented also in C. lazera. Moderate, but not extennsive, exposure to metals was quite stimulatory to liver alkaline phosphatase (AP) biosynthesis. AP could, thus, be considered as a promising bioindicator for assessing sublethal water intoxicosis.  相似文献

In this study, the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanofibers toward ammonia borane hydrolysis has been strongly modified by doping the nanostructure by ZnO and Fe2O3 oxides. Due to the differences in the work function and band gap energy among the three semiconductors (TiO2, ZnO and Fe2O3), illumination of TiO2 leads to accumulate the electrons and holes on the conduction and valance bands of Fe2O3 and ZnO, respectively. Accordingly, the experimental results indicated that the surface of the obtained nanofibers is very active which results in an instant hydrolysis of ammonia borane molecules reaching the active zone surrounding the nanofibers. Moreover, negative activation energy was determined as increasing the temperature led to decrease the photocatalytic performance. Furthermore, kinetic studies indicated that the heterogeneous catalytic reaction describing the ammonia borane hydrolysis process is zero order which additionally supports the super activity of the introduced nanofibers. It was also observed that Fe2O3 content in the introduced nanofibers has distinct influence as the best performance was obtained at 1 wt%. The modified TiO2 nanofibers were prepared by calcination of electrospun nanofibers composed of titanium isopropoxide, zinc acetate and iron acetate in air at 700 °C for 1 h. Overall, the present study opens a new avenue to overcome the fast electrons/holes recombination dilemma facing TiO2-based nanostructures.  相似文献

A study was conducted to investigate the effects of repetitive light tasks of low and high precision on upper limb muscles and brain activities. Surface electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG) were used to measure the muscle and brain activity of 10 subjects. The results show that the root-mean-square (RMS) and mean power frquency (MPF) of the muscle activity and the mean power of the EEG alpha bands were higher on the high-precision task than on the low-precision one. There was also a high and significant correlation between upper limb muscle and brain activity during the tasks. The longer the time and the more precise the task, the more the subjects become fatigued both physically and mentally. Thus, these results could be potentially useful in managing fatigue, especially fatique related to muscle and mental workload.  相似文献
