Polypropylene (PP) has achieved a dominating position and hence, their consumption increases thereby littering, which lead
to environmental pollution. Photodegradation seems to be a better choice because of naturally available sunlight as energy
source for degradation. The present work involves the study of the variation of degradation behavior of PP film during tropical
summer and winter seasons. The photodegradation is followed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic technique.
Various indices like hydroxyl, carbonyl, vinylidene, lactones, ester, carboxylic acid and crystallinity are calculated and
these values increased after a brief induction period. The variation in the mechanical properties like tensile strength and
elongation at break percentages are determined. The scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images of weathered PP showed surface
cracks when carbonyl index value increases sharply and the mechanical properties show a sudden decrease. Attempted life time
prediction using mathematical models showed that the carbonyl growth is more affected by ultraviolet (UV) and cumulative total
solar radiation for PP weathered during summer. The loss in tensile strength of PP weathered during summer is more dependent
on the average temperature and the UV portion of the total solar radiation whereas, intensity of UV radiation has profound
effect on the tensile strength of PP weathered during winter. 相似文献

Introduction
There are many factors that influence older adults' travel choices. This paper explores the associations between mode of travel choice for a short trip and older adults' personal characteristics.Methods
This study included 406 drivers over the age of 64 who were enrolled in a large integrated health plan in the United States between 1991 and 2001. Bivariate analyses and generalized linear modeling were used to examine associations between choosing to walk or drive and respondents' self-reported general health, physical and functional abilities, and confidence in walking and driving.Results
Having more confidence in their ability to walk versus drive increased an older adult's likelihood of walking to make a short trip by about 20% (PR = 1.22; 95% CI: 1.06-1.40), and walking for exercise increased the likelihood by about 50% (PR = 1.53; 95% CI = 1.22-1.91). Reporting fair or poor health decreased the likelihood of walking, as did cutting down on the amount of driving due to a physical problem.Discussion
Factors affecting a person's decision to walk for exercise may not be the same as those that influence their decision to walk as a mode of travel. It is important to understand the barriers to walking for exercise and walking for travel to develop strategies to help older adults meet both their exercise and mobility needs. Introduction
The effectiveness of ignition interlocks at reducing drunk driving has been limited by the ability of driving-while-intoxicated (DWI) offenders to avoid court orders to install the devices.Methods
In a pilot program in New Mexico, four Santa Fe County judges imposed home confinement (via electronic monitoring bracelets) on offenders who claimed to have no car or no intention to drive. Interlock installation rates for Santa Fe County were compared with all other counties in New Mexico over a 2-year program and 2-year post-program period.Results
During the two program years, 70% of the drivers convicted of DWI in Santa Fe County installed interlocks, compared to only 17% in the other counties, but when the program was terminated, the Santa Fe installation rate fell by 18.8 percentage points.Summary
Mandating the alternative sanction of house arrest led to the highest reported interlock installation rate for DWI offenders.Impact on Industry
Impaired driving is a substantial expense to employers, particularly when it bars driving that interferes with employment. Turnover potentially leads to a new individual being selected into a work team. This study investigated the safety-specific trust which team members place in their organisation’s selection and induction processes, and related this to the perceived risk from new employees. The research was conducted with teams working in forest harvesting, an occupation which has high-turnover, high risk and a high accident rate. Results indicate that trust in induction processes was negatively correlated with perceived risk from a new employee. Team members also engaged in a number of safety ensuring behaviours when a new individual joined the team, and these were related to the level of perceived risk, and how much they cared about their team members’ safety. Sinkings of fishing vessels, when accompanied by human loss, are accidents which lead to a great social upheaval, especially in the local area where they occur. In order to avoid or reduce these accidents, national governments must include in their legislation for this sector the appropriate safety measures. These resources and their distribution must be assigned in accordance with the needs of the accidentality, this requiring a detailed knowledge of the concentration of accidentality of a country’s fishing sector. In this context, the aim of the present work is twofold: first, to formulate a methodology for the fishing sector of a country, allowing the inequalities in the concentration of sinking accidents to be analysed; and second, to apply this methodology to the Spanish fishing fleet. Thus, two indices are constructed per region and type of fishing, for two variables: fishermen and vessels. Results are obtained both for the concentration of accidents and the associated Lorenz curves. Within the CLEAR project a new approach to integrated assessment modelling has been developed for the participatory integrated
assessment of regional climate change involving citizens' focus groups. The climate change decision problem was structured
by focusing separately on climate impacts and mitigation options. The attempt was made to link the different scales of the
problem from the individual to the global level. The abstract topic of climate change was related to options on the level
of a citizen's individual lifestyle. The option of a low energy society was emphasised in order to embed the climate change
decision problem in a wider range of societal concerns. Special emphasis was given to the characterisation and communication
of uncertainties. The chosen approach allows different kinds of uncertainties in one framework to be addressed. The paper
concludes with a summary of the experience made, and recommendations for the use of models in participatory integrated assessments.

Past changes and possible future variations in the nature of extreme precipitation and flood events in Central Europe and
the Alpine region are examined from a physical standpoint. An overview is given of the following key contributory physical
processes: (1) the variability of the large-scale atmospheric flow and the associated changes of the North-Atlantic storm
track; (2) the feedback process between climate warming and the water cycle, and in particular the potential for more frequent
heavy precipitation events; and (3) the catchment-scale hydrological processes associated with variations in major river flooding
events and that are related to land-use changes, river training measures, and shifts in the proportion of rain to snowfall.
In this context an account is provided of the possible future forecasting and warning methodologies based upon high-resolution
weather prediction and runoff models. Also consideration is given to the detectability of past (future) changes in observed
(modeled) extreme events. It is shown that their rarity and natural fluctuation largely impedes a detection of systematic
variations. These effects restrict trend analysis of such events to return periods of below a few months. An illustration
using daily precipitation from the Swiss Alps does yield evidence for pronounced trends of intense precipitation events (return
period 30 days), while trends of stronger event classes are not detectable (but nevertheless can not be excluded). The small
detection probability for extreme events limits possible mitigation of future damage costs through an abatement of climate
change alone, and points to the desirability of developing improved early forecasting/warning systems as an additional no-regret
strategy.

Total suspended particulate matter and deposition fluxes of particles were investigated in the town of Didouche Mourad which
is located 13 km north of Constantine. Samples of air particulate matter were collected at one site located in the heart of
the town and situated 3 km north of a cement plant. Samples were collected from 2 November 2002 to 28 April 2003 every 3 days
using a high volume air sampler. Sampling intervals were 24 h in all cases. During the same period, samples of dust fallout
were collected at the same site. Samples were collected at 30-day intervals. Lead, chromium, manganese, nickel, copper, cobalt
and cadmium deposition fluxes were measured and both the soluble and insoluble fractions were determined. Furthermore, the
information gathered by this study was correlated with the corresponding hourly weather data provided by a weather station
installed at the study station. The possible sources for dust and trace metals were analyzed by comparing average contributions
of wind aspects to the concentrations and depositions of mass and chemical species with the average frequencies of wind direction.
The mean concentration was 300 μg/m3. The average dust deposition rate through the period of study was 221 mg/(m2.day). Results indicate that anthropogenic sources contribute greatly to trace elements. An exposure assessment to the heavy
metals taking into account the inhalation route and soil dust ingestion was carried out and allowed direct comparison of trace
metal intakes via these routes. 相似文献
