Characterization of the molecular properties of soluble microbial products (SMP) is critical for understanding the membrane filtration and fouling mechanisms in anaerobic and aerobic membrane bioreactors (AnMBR & MBR). In this study, the distributions of the absolute molecular weight and intrinsic viscosity of SMP polysaccharides from an AnMBR were effectively determined by a high performance size exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) that was coupled with the refractive index (RI), diode array UV (DAUV), right and low angle light scattering (LS), and viscometer (Vis) detectors. Based on the tetra-detector HPSEC determined absolute molecular weights and intrinsic viscosity, a universal calibration relationship for the SMP polysaccharides was developed and the molecular conformations, average molecular weights, and hydrodynamic sizes of the SMP polysaccharides were also explored. Two factors which can be derived from the tetra-detector HPSEC analysis were proposed for the characterization of the viscous and osmotic pressure properties of the SMP polysaccharides. In addition, it was also extrapolated how to analyze the resistance characteristics of the concentration polarization layers formed in membrane filtration based on the molecular properties determined by the tetra-detector HPSEC analysis.
Direct decomposition of N2O by perovskite-structure catalysts including La2NiO4, LaSrNiO4, and La0.7Ce0.3SrNiO4 was investigated. The catalysts were prepared by the Pechini method and characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), BET, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and O2-TPD. Experimental results indicate that the properties of La2NiO4 are significantly improved by partially substituting La with Sr and Ce. N2O decomposition efficiencies achieved with LaSrNiO4 and La0.7Ce0.3SrNiO4 are 44 and 36%, respectively, at 400ºC. As the temperature was increased to 600ºC, N2O decomposition efficiency achieved with LaSrNiO4 and La0.7Ce0.3SrNiO4 reached 100% at an inlet N2O concentration of 1,000 ppm, while the space velocity was fixed at 8,000 hr?1. In addition, effects of various parameters including oxygen, water vapor, and space velocity were also explored. The results indicate that N2O decomposition efficiencies achieved with LaSrNiO4 and La0.7Ce0.3SrNiO4 are not significantly affected as space velocity is increased from 8,000 to 20,000 hr?1, while La0.7Ce0.3SrNiO4 shows better tolerance for O2 and H2O(g). On the other hand, N2 yield with LaSrNiO4 as catalyst can be significantly improved by doping Ce. At a gas hour space velocity of 8,000 hr?1, and a temperature of 600ºC, high N2O decomposition efficiency and N2 yield were maintained throughout the durability test of 60 hr, indicating the long-term stability of La0.7Ce0.3SrNiO4 for N2O decomposition.
Implications:Nitrous oxide (N2O) not only has a high global warming potential (GWP100 = 310), but also potentially destroys ozone in the stratosphere. Pervoskite-type catalysts including La2NiO4, LaSrNiO4, and La0.7Ce0.3SrNiO4 are applied for direct N2O decomposition. The results show that N2O decomposition can be enhanced as Sr and Ce are doped into La2NiO4. At 600ºC, N2O decomposition efficiencies achieved with LaSrNiO4 and La0.7Ce0.3SrNiO4 reach 100%, demonstrating high activity and good potential for direct N2O decomposition. Effects of O2 and H2O(g) contents on catalytic activities are also evaluated and discussed. 相似文献
The study was undertaken to evaluate the environmental exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in subjects living in the area of recycling electronic garbage in Southern China and research the influence of environment smoke tobacco (EST) to people through active and passive smoking. Urinary concentrations of 2-hydroxynaphthalene, 2-hydoxyfluorene, 9-hydroxyphenanthrene, and 1-hydroxypyrene were determined in 141 randomly selected voluntary residents aged 13 to 81 years in two polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-exposed groups, two control groups, and an EST research group. The concentrations of 2-hydroxynaphthalene, 2-hydoxyfluorene, 9-hydroxyphenanthrene, and 1-hydroxypyrene in PAH-exposed groups are significantly higher (p?0.05) than those of control groups. Mean value of 1-hydroxypyrene in the residents living in the area of recycling electronic garbage (1.1 μmol/mol creatinine) is a little higher than those of iron foundry workers, automobile repair workers, and firefighters. Mean value of 2-hydroxynaphthalene (11.3 μmol/mol creatinine) is much higher than that of shipyard and aircraft maintenance and much lower than some occupational exposure, such as coking batteries, sorting department, and distillation department in coking plant. Some metabolites of PAHs (PAHm) are significantly elevated through active and passive smoking, while the influence of EST to other PAHm is not statistically significant. 2-Hydroxynaphthalene, 2-hydoxyfluorene, 9-hydroxyphenanthrene, and 1-hydroxypyrene in the urine of smokers are, respectively, 3.9, 1.9, 1.4, and 1.9 times to those of nonsmokers. In nonsmokers, passive smokers excreted 1.1, 1.5, 1.9, and 1.5 times of 2-hydroxynaphthalene, 2-hydoxyfluorene, 9-hydroxyphenanthrene, and 1-hydroxypyrene compared to nonpassive smokers. 相似文献

Journal of the American Water Resources Association (JAWRA) 48(1): 10‐23. DOI: 10.1111/j.1752‐1688.2011.00587.x Abstract: This paper presents the application of autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), transfer function‐noise (TFN), and artificial neural networks (ANNs) modeling approaches in forecasting monthly total dissolved solids (TDS) of water in the Rio Grande at El Paso, Texas. Predictability analysis was performed between the precipitation, temperature, streamflow rates at the site, releases from upstream reservoirs, and monthly TDS using cross‐correlation statistical tests. The chi‐square test results indicated that the average monthly temperature and precipitation did not show significant predictability on monthly TDS series. The performances of one‐ to three‐month‐ahead model forecasts for the testing period of 1984‐1994 showed that the TFN model that incorporated the streamflow rates at the site and Caballo Reservoir release improved monthly TDS forecasts slightly better than the ARIMA models. Except for one‐month‐ahead forecasts, the ANN models using the streamflow rates at the site as inputs resulted in no significant improvements over the TFN models at two‐month‐ahead and three‐month‐ahead forecasts. For three‐month‐ahead forecasts, the simple ARIMA showed similar performance compared to all other models. The results of this study suggested that simple deseasonalized ARIMA models could be used in one‐ to three‐month‐ahead TDS forecasting at the study site with a simple, explicit model structure and similar model performance as the TFN and ANN models for better water management in the Basin. 相似文献
Persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals can cause diseases in women, however, the relationships of these pollutants
and uterine leiomyomas (UL), which are non-cancerous tumors of the uterus, are unclear. This study focused on the quantification
of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polybrominated
diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and heavy metals in subcutaneous and visceral fat obtained from patients with UL and in subcutaneous
fat of a control group of women without UL to determine if there were any correlations between concentrations of persistent
organic pollutants (POPs) and heavy metals and the incidence of UL. 相似文献
