Radioactive contamination of agricultural land may necessitate long-term changes in food production systems, through application
of selected countermeasures, in order to reduce the accumulation of radionuclides in food. We quantified the impact of selected
countermeasures on habitat diversity, using the hypothetical case of two agricultural areas in Finland. The management scenarios
studied were conversions from grassland to cereal production and from grassland and crop production to afforestation. The
two study sites differed with respect to present agricultural production: one being predominantly cereal production and seminatural
grasslands, while the other was dominated by intensive grass and dairy production. Some of the management scenarios are expected
to affect landscape structures and habitat diversity. These potential changes were assessed using a spatial pattern analysis
program in connection with geographic information systems. The studied landscape changes resulted in a more monotonous landscape
structure compared to the present management, by increasing the mean habitat patch size, reducing the total habitat edge length
and reducing the overall habitat diversity calculated by the Shannon diversity index. The degree of change was dependent on
the present agricultural management practice in the case study sites. Where dairy production was predominant, the landscape
structure changes were mostly due to conversion of intensive pastures and grasslands to cereal production. In the area dominated
by cereal production and seminatural grasslands, the greatest predicted impacts resulted from afforestation of meadows and
pastures. The studied management changes are predicted to reduce biodiversity at the species level as well as diminishing
species-rich habitats. This study has predicted prominent side effects in habitat diversity resulting from application of
management scenarios. These potential long-term impacts should be considered by decision-makers when planning future strategies
in the event of radionuclide deposition. 相似文献

The effect of ageing on the bioavailability and sorption of the herbicides atrazine and mecoprop was studied in soil and aquifer chalk sampled at an agricultural field near Aalborg, Denmark. The herbicides were incubated in sterile soil or chalk up to 3 months prior to inoculation with 5 x 10(7) cells g(-1) (dry weight) of a mecoprop degrading highly enriched culture (PM) or 1 x 10(9) cells g(-1) (dry weight) of the atrazine degrading Pseudomonas sp. strain ADP. As a measure of the bioavailable residues accumulated 14CO2 was measured for 2 months. In both soil and chalk ageing limited the rate of atrazine mineralization, and in chalk the extent of mineralization was reduced as well. The fraction of sorbed atrazine in the soil ranged between 50% and 62%, whereas a maximum of 12% was sorbed in chalk. No impact on the mineralization of aged mecoprop was seen as no sorption of this herbicide on either soil or chalk was measured. 相似文献

Objectives
We aimed to compare cell-based NIPT (cbNIPT) to chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and to examine the test characteristics of cbNIPT in the first clinical validation study of cbNIPT compared to cell-free NIPT (cfNIPT).Material and Methods
Study 1: Women (N = 92) who accepted CVS were recruited for cbNIPT (53 normal and 39 abnormal). Samples were analyzed with chromosomal microarray (CMA). Study 2: Women (N = 282) who accepted cfNIPT were recruited for cbNIPT. cfNIPT was analyzed using sequencing and cbNIPT by CMA.Results
Study 1: cbNIPT detected all aberrations (32/32) found in CVS: trisomies 13, 18 and 21 (23/23), pathogenic copy number variations (CNVs) (6/6) and sex chromosome aberrations (3/3). cbNIPT detected 3/8 cases of mosaicism in the placenta. Study 2: cbNIPT detected all trisomies found with cfNIPT (6/6) and had no false positive (0/246). One of the three CNVs called by cbNIPT was confirmed by CVS but was undetected by cfNIPT, two were false positives. cbNIPT detected mosaicism in five samples, of which two were not detected by cfNIPT. cbNIPT failed in 7.8% compared to 2.8% in cfNIPT.Conclusion
Circulating trophoblasts in the maternal circulation provide the potential of screening for aneuploidies and pathogenic CNVs covering the entire fetal genome. 相似文献14.

This study describes the potential for occupational exposure to organophosphates (OPs) originating from turbine and hydraulic oils, among ground personnel within the aviation industry. The OPs tri-n-butyl phosphate (TnBP), dibutyl phenyl phosphate (DBPP), triphenyl phosphate (TPP) and tricresyl phosphate (TCP) have been emphasized due to their use in such oils. Oil aerosol/vapor and total volatile organic compounds (tVOCs) in air were also determined. In total, 228 and 182 OPs and oil aerosol/vapor samples from technician and loader work tasks during work on 42 and 21 aircrafts, respectively, were collected in pairs. In general, the measured exposure levels were below the limit of quantification (LOQ) for 84%/98% (oil aerosol) and 82%/90% (TCP) of the samples collected during technician/loader work tasks. Electrofishing is considered a reliable tool to assess the assemblages and biodiversity of fish in wadeable streams. The most widely used electrofishing techniques (point [P], single-pass [S-P], and multiple-pass [M-P]) vary as to the effort needed for sample collection, and this may potentially influence the degree of accuracy. Moreover, little is known about the comparability of the methods and their specific performance in streams with different fish assemblages. The aim of this investigation was to validate (using M-P sampling as reference) the use of P and S-P electrofishing techniques to accurately assess the richness, density and size distribution of fishes in small streams at both regional and global scale independently of fish assemblages and geographical region. We sampled 50-m-long reaches in a total of 33 lowland stream reaches that were located in different climatic and biogeographical regions (Uruguay and Denmark) and hosted different fish assemblages. Subtropical fish communities exhibited higher richness (Uy: 12–32, Dk: 1–9) and densities (Uy: 1.3–5.2, DK: 0.1–4.9 in. m?2) than temperate streams. We applied both "global models" using the entire database (33 sites) and "local models" including the same number of sites but using the climatic region as a model variable. Regression analyses revealed that the P, S-P and M-P methods all provided an adequate picture of the species composition and size distribution, and transfer equations for comparison between methods are thus not required. Conversely, richness was better predicted by S-P and by P techniques for regional and global models, respectively. Transfer equations obtained for abundance revealed that the P and S-P models can accurately transform catch data into M-P estimations. The transfer equations provided here may have great relevance as they allow relatively reliable comparisons to be made between data obtained by different techniques. We also show that less intensive sampling techniques may be equally useful for monitoring purposes as those requiring more intensive efforts (and costs). We encourage validation of our developed transfer equations on data from other regions of the world. 相似文献

A case of low atresia of the ileum, diagnosed prenatally by real-time ultrasound scanning, is presented. The ultrasound examination showed progressive distension of intestinal loops, with strong peristaltic movements. The stomach was also distended, presenting as a large cystic area in the upper left abdomen. Real-time ultrasound technique is most advantageous in the diagnosis of fetal ileus. Prenatal diagnosis of fetal intestinal obstruction is of great importance, making early and safe treatment of the newborn possible. 相似文献

The effects of infaunal mode of life on sediment properties, microbial reaction rates, as well as abundance and composition
of bacterial communities were studied in sediment surrounding burrows (mucus lining, oxidised wall, ambient anoxic and surface
sediment) of two closely related, but behaviourally different, nereidid polychaete worms: the facultative suspension-feeder
Nereis (Hediste) diversicolor and the obligate deposit-feeder Nereis (Neanthes) virens. Burrow sediment of the two species was collected from two adjacent (50 m distance) shallow sandy locations (Kertinge Nor,
Denmark). The burrow lining and wall of both polychaete species were enriched in organic matter originating from mucous secretions
by the inhabitants and phytoplankton trapped through irrigation. This was more evident for N. diversicolor that shows a significantly higher irrigation rate than N. virens. Both the organic matter mineralisation rates (based on anaerobic incubations) and bacterial abundance were higher along
the burrow linings and walls. However, accumulation of porewater TCO2 and dissolved organic carbon in sediments adjacent to burrows increased most rapidly in the presence of N. diversicolor, suggesting higher heterotrophic activity associated with this species. Surprisingly, bacterial abundance was lower around
burrows of N. diversicolor than those from N. virens indicating that burrow environments from the first species harbour a more active bacterial community. Molecular fingerprints
of the 16S rRNA gene from bacterial communities showed that the composition of the burrow linings and walls resembled the
ambient anoxic sediment rather than the oxic sediment surface. On the other hand, the bacterial fingerprints of the sediment
surrounding the burrows of the two polychaete species were markedly different suggesting either a site-specific difference
in sediment parameters or a significant species-specific impact of the burrow inhabitants. 相似文献

This study examines the capacity to support the cumulative effects assessment and management for watersheds. The research is set in the Lower Fraser River Basin, a densely populated sub-watershed in British Columbia’s lower mainland. Eight requirements or requisites for the watershed cumulative effects assessment and management are applied to evaluate current capacity for implementation in the Lower Fraser, and to identify the areas in need of capacity development. Results show that advancing watershed cumulative effects assessment and management requires not only good science but also leadership in the coordination of monitoring programs, and in ensuring the appropriate incentives and penalties for engagement and nonengagement. The lack of leadership in this regard is the result of existing governance structures arranged around the political boundaries, which have produced over time multiple agencies and jurisdictional fragmentation. Notwithstanding this, we argue that the watershed is the most appropriate scale for assessing and managing the cumulative effects to complex ecosystems. 相似文献
