The safety of Tinospora cordifolia and its potential to protect against ultraviolet radiation‐induced cytotoxicity and DNA damage in PC12 cells were investigated. To evaluate the safety of T. cordifolia, cell viability and agarose gel electrophoresis were carried out using PC12 cells treated with 0 to 100 μg mL?1 of methanol extract of T. cordifolia. T. cordifolia extracts did not show cytotoxicity ranging 0 to 100 μg mL?1. In addition, T. cordifolia extracts significantly increased cell viability at 1 ng, 10 ng and 1 μg mL?1 concentrations in serum‐deprived medium compared to control. To confirm the protective role against UV‐induced damage, PC12 cells alone or in the presence of 10 ng, 100 ng, or 1 μg mL?1 of T. cordifolia extract were exposed to 250, 270 and 290 nm of UV radiation, which corresponded to doses of 120, 150 and 300 mJ cm?2, respectively. Treatment with T. cordifolia extracts significantly increased the cell survival rate irradiated at 290 nm. In addition, T. cordifolia extracts significantly reduced cyclobutane pyrimidine dimer formation induced by UV irradiation at all wavelengths. In conclusion, T. cordifolia is not toxic and safe for cells. Our findings can support its application as phototherapy in the medical sector. 相似文献

This study deals with 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO)-mediated oxidation of cellulose. Softwood and hardwood pulp fibers were suspended in water and oxidized to various extents at pH 10 and 22 °C using sodium hypochlorite in the presence of TEMPO radical and sodium bromide. This reaction system is known to be the most efficient one for the introduction of both surface carboxyl and aldehyde groups. Important relationships between formation of these functional groups and the fibrillation yield, light transmittance of the water dispersions and degree of polymerization of the oxidized softwood and hardwood pulps were established in the present study. A birefringence test confirmed the presence of nanofibers which according to atomic force microscopy analyses had diameters in the 1.6–3.8 nm range. 相似文献

The amphioxus is the only surviving prevertebrate segmented chordate. In this animal Hatschek's pit has long been regarded
as a putative homologue of the adenohypophysis because of the presence of secretory granules and immunoreactive cells to vertebrate
gonadotrophic hormone in this organ. We found that the nerve cord extends a protrusion to the pit along the right side of
the notochord. Furthermore, secretory granules were found not only in the pit but also in the protrusion of the nerve cord.
These results suggest that Hatschek's pit and the nerve protrusion are homologous to the adenohypophysis and neurohypophysis,
respectively. We believe that this is an evidence for the presence of the neuroendocrine link between the central nervous
system and Hatschek's pit in the amphioxus.

The metabolism of diisopropylnaphthalene (DIPN) in fish was studied from an ecotoxicological viewpoint to clarify the environmental fate of DIPN, a solvent of carbonless paper which is widely used as a substitute for PCB. This study identified the following metabolites in carp by in vivo experiment; 2-(1-hydroxy-1-methyl) ethyl-6-isopropylnaphthalene, 2-(1-methyl-2-hydroxyethyl)-6-isopropyl-naphthalene, 2,6-(1-hydroxy-1-methyl) ethyl-naphthalene, 2-(1-hydroxy-1-hydroxymethyl) ethyl-6-isopropylnaphthalene and α-[2-(6-isopropylnaphthyl)] propionic acid. Identification was based on UV, IR, MS, and NMR analyses. The metabolism of 2,6-DIPN in carp was concluded to mainly through oxidation of the isopropyl chain. 相似文献

To learn more about the biodegradation of potassium bromate, the decomposition of bromate in various tissues of rats was studied. Bromate was degraded very slowly in human saliva and plasma of rat. However, nearly all tissue homogenates and red blood cells could degrade bromate by a mechanism which exhibited some stability to heat. Furthermore, it was suggested that the bromate degradation active component in the supernatant fraction of a liver homogenate was in part glutathione. 相似文献

Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy (FCMD) is characterized by infantile hypotonia, symmetrical generalized muscle weakness, and neuronal migration disturbances that result in changes consistent with cobblestone lissencephaly with cerebral and cerebellar cortical dysplasia. FCMD is recognized as an autosomal recessive genetic defect. Genetic counselling is recommended for parents at risk of having a child with FCMD. Given the high risk and overwhelming prospect of having another child with this incurable devastating condition leads many couples to consider prenatal diagnosis. In Japanese families, haplotype analysis using microsatellite markers is available. In non-Japanese families, DNA sequence analysis is available. A method for measuring the concentration of methyl chloride (CH3Cl) in air trapped in an ice core was developed. The method combines the air extraction by milling the ice core samples under vacuum and the analysis of the extracted air with a cryogenic preconcentration/gas chromatograph/mass spectrometry system. The method was applied to air from Antarctic ice core samples estimated to have been formed in the pre-industrial and/or early industrial periods. The overall precision of the method deduced from duplicate ice core analyses was estimated to be better than +/-20 pptv. The measured CH3Cl concentration of 528+/-26 pptv was similar to the present-day concentration in the remote atmosphere as well as the CH3Cl concentration over the past 300 years obtained from Antarctic firn air and ice core analyses. 相似文献
